In this study we looked at what was really happening in the excange Jesus had with the Greek Syro-Phoenician woman and why they talked about dogs in relation to her.
This is a series we are starting that introduces and teaches how to use study tools to deepen your study of Scripture. In this study we talk about online study tools and Bible websites as well as the difference between a concordance and a lexicon. We also talk about the value and limitations of commentaries. As we continue with this topic we will be exploring different passages and topics in the Bible that thosein our congregation are interested in. In this study we continue our discussion of Context but move into discussing our relationship dynamics as believers and how what we believe about the Bible and others intersects with how we share our faith.

We continue our study of the cherry picked verses that are supposed to teach us that the OT doesn't apply today and we continue to see that the context of the verses doesn't support that argument. In fact, it says quite the oppoisite -- or just totally different things!

As we work our way through Daniel we attempt to look at the historical context and culture that received the prophecy in order to try and understand all that it means.
The infamous 70 Weeks - we talk about it. We also talk some more about the idea in Daniel that there is a time that is not the time, the time that is not the time, and the time that is the time. What do they have in common? Where are we in that lineup and what should we be looking for?
In this study we dive into Daniel 8 and look at the dream he had in the 3rd year of Belshazzar before his death and the Medes and Persians coming to power there.
In this study we read through Daniel 7 and discuss the dream that he had. We talk again about the difference between Prophecy and Ruach Hakodesh and how not understanding the distinctions has caused a lot of bad teaching in the church. We also compare the traditional interpretation of Daniel 7 (specifically from Rashi) and the modern US tendencies in End Times prophecies.

In these chapters we read about Nebuchadnezzar spending 7 years living in a field as an ox until he moved from a confession of acknowledgement of who God is to a confession of genuine faith! And then we read about his son Belshazzar - who as King threw a party and thought it would be fun to drink and eat out of the Temple vessels that his father has taken from the Temple of God in Jerusalem. A hand wrote on the wall, and Daniel interprets the message. Find out what it is and what happened next.
In Daniel 3 we dig into the famous story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego as they defy King Nebuchadnezzar and find themselves in a fiery furnace heated to 7 times the normal intensity. We talk about idolatry, and how easy it is for us to find ourselves in idolatry, and how similar it looks to what King Nebuchadnezzar did - even when it's on a much smaller scale. We also examine what our 3 heroes were going through as they prepared for this moment - what is behind the text - because they were serving in leadership for the many years this statue was being built and they knew what was coming. We can learn so much from this story about how we can go through times in the furnace and how a similar choice to chill in the fire with God can allow us to come out unsinged and not smelling like smoke. There is so much more to this story than we find in the Children's Bible where so many of us first encountered it.
Join us as we learn what went into Daniel being given the knowledge of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream - what it was and what it meant. There are so many things for us to learn from Daniel about prophecy vs knowledge and so many other things.
Elihu calls everyone out in this section of Job and it is a humbling experience to consider our own lives. Yes, we can shake our fist at God and still be called righteous - but when we know God one would hope we are growing in our faith so that we know there is no reason to shake our fist at Him!
Thank you for joining us on this very emotional and inspiring journey through the book of Job. We hope you have learned things about God, doctrine, yourself, and how to handle struggles and others coming at you with bad theology. I know we have discussed feeling inspired to show ever greater compassion when those around us are suffering, and are encouraged to know that everyone coming at us with "correction" isn't supposed to be listened to - their words must be taken captive to the Word of God.
In this section Job offers his closing argument for the accusations made against him. It's beautiful to think of how highly he was esteemed and how far he fell simply because he was going through a struggle. This can be a hard section because you are left with the understanding "it happened to him and it can happen to me" but if we don't read this before it happens to us we can miss out on the encouragement that you find when you go through these seasons and can reassure yourself, "It happened to Job - God still loves me and I'm going to be okay."
In this week's study we explore more of the condemnation that comes upon believers when we struggle and others are uncomfortable with it. We also are introduced to the doctrine of "we're all just worms" and see that it does not come from proper doctrine. That is good news indeed!
