In this message, Isaiah testifies that when Yehovah’s judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness, but when grace is shown to the wicked, they will not learn righteousness. He speaks of the Rephaim, who shall not rise. We discuss who these Rephaim were and why they would not rise. Yehovah’s dead, on the other hand, shall rise and live. He urges His people to hide themselves for a short time while He punishes the wicked until His wrath is passed.

In this message, Isaiah 25 takes us forward to the kingdom eon on earth. He destroyed a great city, and the terrible nations fear him. He is a refuge to the poor and weak. He destroys the vail over the nations, and will wipe away all tears. His people speak, saying this is the God they have waited for. Yehovah rests on His mountain, but destroys the fortress of the enemy. Then, a beautiful record of the restored and converted Israel of the kingdom of God, the righteous nation that will enter God’s city. They waited for Yehovah’s judgments, and they will receive them.

In this message, we read of great troubles, and afterwards is revealed the time of the kingdom of God will come upon the earth. This passage is used to promote the idea of an earth denuded of its inhabitants, perhaps by nuclear war. Is this truly the picture we see in this chapter? It does speak of the land being emptied, but what does that mean? We discuss this prophecy and what it truly was related to.

In this message, following up on Yehovah’s rebuke of Shebna the scribe, He promises to raise up His servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, put him in Shebna’s place, give him the key of the house of David, and establish him like a nail in a sure place.Then, the burden or oracle of Tyre, the last of the ten oracles. Tyre will go into exile, and all who did business with her will lament. They will be forgotten seventy years, and then be reestablished in her trade. In this kingdom, their trade will be set apart to Yehovah.

In this message, we study the seventh burden or oracle, this one on Edom, called Dumah or Silence. The case of Edom is apparently still undecided. then, the eighth oracle, this time on Arabians. He warns them that punishment is about to fall on them within a year. Then the ninth oracle, this time about the Valley of Vision, which takes in all the land of Canaan, especially around Jerusalem. The walls of Jerusalem will be breached and Judah will be defenseless. They prepared themselves for a siege, but didn’t look to Yehovah for help as they should have done. Finally, he sends a message to Shebna the treasurer over the king’s house.He has hewn himself a sepulchre in Jerusalem, but Yehovah will toss him violently into a foreign land and he will die there.

In this message, in the end of Isaiah 19, Yehovah predicts a glorious future for Egypt in the kingdom of God, in which a highway runs between Egypt, Israel, and Assyria, and these three nations belongs specially to God. In Isaiah 20, Yahweh tells Isaiah to go “naked and barefoot” three years as a sign to Egypt and Ethiopia. In Isaiah 21, we have an oracle about the “desert of the sea,” apparently referring to Babylon. The oracle involves their eventual destruction.

In this message, we consider Isaiah 19 and the fifth oracle against Egypt. This nation has passed through many punishments. Hundreds of years after these predictions were given, the word of Yehovah came to pass. The final dealing with Egypt seems to take us forward to when God governs the earth. Besides the prophecies of calamity on Egypt, we have a strange word about an altar and a pillar to Yehovah in Egypt and five cities swearing allegiance to Him. We consider this interesting passage.

In this message, Isaiah 17 is the burden or oracle on Damascus, the capital city of Syria, that will be punished by becoming a ruinous heap. Then, Isaiah 18 is an intriguing prophecy about a great nation used by God in the kingdom to bring back His ancient people. When God gives His word to Israel to return to their land, there will be some mighty nation that will offer them help in getting them back.

In this message, we have the third burden or oracle about the nations around Israel, this one about Moab, one of the nations descended from Lot through his oldest daughter. Destruction will come on Moab, as Yehovah describes it, and within three years the nation will be all but wiped out.

In this message, the King of Babylon is brought down to Sheol, and many gaze at him in astonishment. The kings of the past are all laid in state, but he is cast out of his grave as abominable. Yehovah will rise against them and cut them off, and the Assyrian will be broken in His land. This may go beyond the nations of the past to the man of sin of the tribulation period. Then the chapter closes with an oracle against Philistia from the year King Ahaz died.

In this message, we consider the final two psalms in the book. The last five psalms are “Hallelujah” psalms, probably written by good King Hezekiah, who may have finalized the book. Psalm 149 is given as a new song for Israel. Presenting the nation as it will exist in the glorious kingdom of God to come. Finally, Psalm 150 is an invitation to all flesh to praise and worship Israel’s Mighty God, Yehovah. Then, as we close out the book, considering “Psalm 151” as it appears in the Septuagint, and finally giving our closing comments on the book.

In this message, we consider the short Psalm 117, calling on all nations to join Israel in praising the LORD. Then in Psalm 118, we consider a psalm that is largely prophetic. Praise to Jehovah for His grace then moves into remembrance of deliverance and the conclusion that trust in Jehovah is superior to all else. Ultimate hope is not in death, but in resurrection life. Then, a world will be built on Jesus Christ, the chief cornerstone. He creates that great day when His light will enlighten the world and His praise will ring out from His people again.

In this message, we continue Psalm 115, a psalm celebrating the reality of Israel’s God over the emptiness of idols. All Israel is called on to extol Yehovah, since He is the One Who is ever mindful of them, and will exalt and increase them. He owns the heavens, but has given the earth to the sons of Adam. The dead do not praise Yehovah, but we the living offer praises now and in resurrection life in the Eon. Then, in Psalm 116, praise is given for deliverance from death, perhaps matching well with the events in the life of King Hezekiah. Yehovah delivered him from death, and he wonders how he may repay Him? The answer is given. Death will come eventually, but the psalmist expresses confidence that he will yet pay his vows to Yehovah in resurrection life.

In this message, we consider Psalm 113, the third of the three Hallelujah psalms. It is the first of a group of six psalms called the Hallel Psalms (113-118). In later tradition 113-114 were sung before Seder, and 115-118 afterwards. These may be the hymn the Lord and His disciples sang after Passover in Matthew 26:30 and Mark 14:26. It could have been written by Hezekiah. It praises Yah from the kingdom perspective, when He will be high over all the earth, and will lift many out of the dust to exaltation. Psalm 114 may be written by Hezekiah as well. It speaks of Israel going out of Egypt, and how the sea fled from before them, and the mountains skipped as they came to the land of Israel. Why? Because of the presence of Jehovah with them! Psalm 115 is difficult to pin down, but it may speak of the attack on Judah during the reign of Jehoshaphat. It contrasts the living God to the idols of the nations, who look like human figures, but who do not live.

In this message, we continue our study from our last audio about the passages those who believe in universal salvation or universal reconciliation use to argue that all will ultimately be saved. We consider John 12:32, saying that the Lord will draw all to Him. Does this mean that He will force all to come? Ephesians 1:10 says He gathers all things together in Christ. Again, is this universal salvation? I Timothy 2:4 tells us God will have all men to be saved. Will He get what He wants? In I Timothy 4:10, God is the Savior of all men. Does this mean every single individual will be saved? Hebrews 2:9 says Jesus tasted death for every man. I John 4:14 says He is the Savior of the world. I Peter 3:9 says God is not willing that any should perish. Do these passages teach the salvation of all?

In this message, we continue considering Psalm 109, wherein David records the terrible curses his enemies have pronounced against him, curses which some, misunderstanding and placing in David’s mouth, have used to deny the inspiration of Scripture! The enemies justify their curse with false accusations against David. Once David finishes recording their words, he wishes their own curses to fall only on their own heads. Yet he is weak and helpless, and calls on Yahweh his Master to have mercy on him and rescue him. Though they might curse, if He will bless, then David knows he will have the victory over them. Then, we begin the great Psalm 110, a prophecy of Messiah. Jehovah speaks to David’s Adonai to sit on His right until His enemies are His footstool. He will rule among His enemies, and will be a Priest forever after the manner of Melchizedek. We discuss this strange Biblical character.

In this message, we consider several passages that universalists use as their favorite passages to prove that all will eventually be saved. First of all, Colossians 1:20 proclaims that Jesus Christ will reconcile all things to Himself. Does this mean universal reconciliation, that even Satan and the fallen angels will someday be saved? Then Romans 5:18 claims that all will receive justification of life. Does this mean that all will be justified before God and therefore saved? Finally, Philippians 2:10 says that every knee will bow to Jesus Christ, and every tongue confess that He is Lord. Does this not indicate that all will finally be saved?

In this message, we begin with Psalm 108, a psalm of David, this time not a new psalm, but one made of a composite of Psalms 57:7-11 and 60:5-12, perhaps put to new music, singing praise to God for His glory and mercy, and requesting His help against enemies. This is often called an “imprecatory psalm,” and is used to try to show that God could not possibly have inspired such sentiments. Yet are the words given here really David’s by inspiration? In this message, we consider the final portion of the last historical psalm. The psalmist continues to consider the rebellions of the people of Israel against the LORD Who delivered them from Egypt. They joined themselves to the god of Ba’al Peor. The provoked Jehovah at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses because of their stubbornness. They refused to destroy the peoples of the land of Canaan with whom Yahweh commanded them to make no league. Instead, they left them in the land, and then learned to worship their idols and follow their ways. Therefore, He gave them into the power of their enemies. When they cried out for oppression, however, He remembered His covenant, and delivered them. The psalmist then calls on God in the current situation to save them and gather them from among the nations. So ends the great, fourth book of Psalms.

In this message, we consider the last psalm of the fourth, Numbers book of psalms, Psalm 106. This is also the third of three historical psalms. The psalm begins and ends with prayer, and in between is a national confession of sins, offset by the intervention of Yehovah and His agents. We would conclude the time of David as most likely for its writing. They did not remember His works in the plagues of Egypt at the Red Sea. They lusted for more varied food in the wilderness. They envied Moses’ position with the rebellion of Korah. They despised the Promised Land when the ten spies brought back an evil report. This last time, Yahweh swore to destroy them in the wilderness. We consider the words and meaning of this great psalm.

In this message, we continue this historical psalm reviewing Israel in the land of Egypt. Jehovah turned the king’s heart against His people, and then brought His plagues on the Egyptians. We review the plagues Yahweh brought against them, and then the Israelites’ glorious exit from the land. Yehovah led them in a pillar of cloud and fire, and gave them water from a rock. Yet they forgot what He had done for them and complained against Him. He brought them into the land, and called on them to keep His statutes as laws. The Israelites hearing this psalm should remember that this is what they, too, ought to do.

In this message, we consider Psalm 105, the second of the three historical psalms. The Israelite reader/singer is to know God’s activities with his nation throughout history, and to be inspired to keep the agreement (covenant) He made with them. The first part adapts a psalm of David found in I Chronicles 16:7-36, but partway through it branches off and takes a different direction. He speaks of Abraham and his descendants, their wandering days, and their going down into Egypt when Joseph was prime minister there.

In this message, we consider a psalm about creation. He made the light, the water, the clouds, and the angels themselves. He controlled the waters at the flood, and He made the plants for the animals to eat. He made the animals, and He controls the morning. He made the sea for sailors, and even the great sea monsters. He takes away their breath, and again He gives them life back again. His glory is for the eon, when the sinners will be consumed out of the earth.

In this psalm by David, Israel’s great shepherd-king writes of the greatness of Jehovah, his true Son and Lord. He extolls Yehovah for His many benefits, for His grace, and for His righteous justice. He will not be angry forever, for His mercy is as great as the heavens are high above the earth. Man’s days are like grass, but Yahweh’s mercy is to the olam and beyond. The LORD establishes His throne in heaven, and His government rules over all. So David calls on all to bless, meaning to speak well of and praise, Jehovah!

A psalm of one afflicted is probably by David, speaking at the time of his terrible illness and affliction, looking forward as a prophet to Israel’s glorious future. He speaks out of his illness and the affliction of those who hated him. He knows this has come on Him because of God’s wrath. Yet though He might end, God will continue and bring in His great, future flow of the kingdom. He will build up Zion, appear in glory, and answer the prayer of those like David, gathering all nations to serve Jehovah.

In this message, we consider Psalm 100, a psalm of thanksgiving to God for the glorious advent of the kingdom of God on earth. Then we examine Psalm 101, a psalm in which David speaks of the glorious future he is going to have in the kingdom of God. When David speaks of the perfect government and righteous court he is going to have, we do not see the starry-eyed idealism of a young David imagining how great his court is going to be before he grew up and had to settle for the sad reality of the way his court really was. Instead, we see a Divine revelation of the perfect court David will preside over in the coming Kingdom of God, when David is raised from the dead to rule over Israel once again.

In this message, we consider Psalm 98, which Rotherham calls the first of a shorter, two-psalm “service of song” for the Sabbath day. It starts out with a psalm of praise, wherein the whole earth sings a new song to Jehovah celebrating the advent of His glorious kingdom. Psalm 99 follows up with further exaltation of Yahweh’s reign over the earth through His holy government.

In this message, we consider Psalm 97, the final in the series of psalms for a Sabbath service of song, which may well have been put together by good King Hezekiah. It celebrates Jehovah’s assumption of sovereignty, as He becomes King and subjects and enlightens the whole world. All governments melt before Him and the rulers praise Him. Those who worship idols are ashamed, but His people of Zion rejoice. All who love Jehovah have great cause to rejoice!

In this message, we consider Psalm 96, another psalm from what Rotherham suggests is a six-psalm “service of song” for the Sabbath day, Psalm 92:1. All the earth is called on to sing to Jehovah, to exalt and praise Him, and to declare His glories among the nations, whose gods are no more than idols, whereas Jehovah made the heavens. All nations should give Jehovah the glory due His reputation. He speaks of the time to come when it is proclaimed that Yahweh reigns over all nations, to the rejoicing and happiness of the earth.
PSA297 James 5 – Rich Before the Lord’s Parousia mp3
In this message, we complete our study of the book of James. In order to rightly divide James, we must recognize a jump in time between chapter 4 and chapter 5 to the future and the tribulation period. James rebukes the rich living then, and encourages endurance until the Lord’s great parousia presence on earth begins. Then, he shares some last rules for conduct. They are not to swear. They should pray, sing psalms, and give thanks. If they are sick, they are to call the elders to pray over them and anoint them with oil, and their sins would be forgiven. We discuss how this reflects the Acts period in which they lived. They should not give up on prayer. It is good to turn an erring brother back to the right way.

In this message, we consider another Psalm of the series of six Psalms under the title of “A Psalm or Song for the Sabbath Day.” It was apparently a series put together by the good King Hezekiah. They are to cry for joy to the LORD and come before Him with singing because He is a great King. This is speaking, not of today, but of the future when He will make all the governments of this world His Own. They, Israel, were the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. He urges them not to harden their hearts as their ancestors did in the wilderness, and He swore they would never enter His rest. This passage was quoted prominently in Hebrews, and we discuss its important meaning.

In this message, we consider Psalm 94, the third of the series of six that form a “Service of Song” for the Sabbath day. The author may be Hezekiah or one of his servants, or even the prophet Isaiah of his days. The psalmist questions God as to how long the wicked will triumph? He points out to the wicked that it is foolish to think that the One Who made our eyes and ears cannot see and hear us. Those whom God disciplines and teaches are favored by Him, and He will not cast them off. Jehovah will defend them, but He will rise against the wicked to their destruction.

In this message, James speaks to the Jews in the dispersion about their fighting among themselves, and failing to get what they ask for from God. The Spirit and the world battle; they needed to draw near to God. Those who judge the law are not doers of the law, he points out. They are not to make plans as if they were certain, but to submit all to the Lord’s will.

In this message, James does not want them to be partial to the wealthy and powerful, for this is not right, and it is not what is important in God’s sight. Then, he discusses the interaction of faith with works, and the fact that faith without works is dead. Yet this seems to contradict Paul, that salvation is by faith, not by works. What does James mean? How does this fit with what Paul teaches in Ephesians 2? We consider the important interaction between faith and works.

Introducing the fourth, Numbers book of Psalms. We discuss the book of Numbers, the book of Israel “In the Wilderness,” and consider the corresponding subject matter of the fourth book of Psalms, focusing on the earth and God’s counsels and purposes regarding it. Then, we consider Psalm 90, a prayer of Moses the man of God. He prays on behalf of the elder, cursed generation in the wilderness, who are doomed to die there, as Moses himself will eventually. Yet the ultimate hope of this elder generation gleams dimly but brightly in the future, for they too will be resurrected from the dead, without which hope none of us would have any chance for a future. So we consider this important psalm, from which we too have much to learn.

In this message, we begin a study of the book of James. James is the first of the seven “general epistles” not written by Paul or his company. It is short, but it provides unique teaching not in Paul’s books. James was the Lord’s half-brother, a shepherd of the Jews, teaching them decorum and decent behavior. They are to endure patiently trials, receive God’s gifts without wrath, and do the word, not just hear it.

In this message, we continue the psalm contrasting the brightness of the covenant made with David and with the darkness of the dishonor his heir is currently experiencing. He promised to be with David heirs for the outflow, to punish them if they disobeyed Him, but never to take His mercy from them as He did from Saul. His seed would be established like the sun and moon. But what now? David’s seed has been cast off. His adversaries have defeated him, and Yehovah seems to have helped them do so. The psalmist calls on Yahweh to remember how their foes have reproached His servants. Thus we come to the end of this third, Leviticus book of Psalms.

In this message, we consider the great Psalm 50, wherein God calls together the heavens, the earth, and His saints to speak to them. He speaks to Israel, and points out that He does not need their offerings and sacrifices, since He owns everything Himself, and would not come to them for help if He needed anything. He calls on them, then, to pay their vows to Him and be thankful. To the wicked, however, He tells them He does not appreciate their mouthing loyalty to Him when they act wickedly. When they do these things and He keeps silent, they conclude He is like them, but they need to think more deeply and see their great danger.

In this message, we consider Psalm 44, a psalm for the sons of Korah. Rotherham suggests the occasion for this psalm was the war of Israel under David against Syria and Moab, when the Edomites in the south took occasion to invade Judah while the army of Israel was occupied elsewhere. Israel had suffered a disheartening defeat, and God appeared to have abandoned them. They had heard God’s promises of the past and the mighty help He had given them against the Canaanites, yet now He appeared to have cast them off and shamed them, though they had not abandoned Him. How could this be? The Psalmist considers this theme.

In this message, Balak tries to get Balaam to curse Israel two more times. Balaam, longing for the reward this heathen king offers, tries to comply, but Jehovah simply puts a word in his mouth and he must speak the truth. Balak, furious, sends him running for his life. In the end, however, Balaam will not give up, and comes up with a terrible plot to use his knowledge of Yahweh to tell the Midianites how to cause Israel to sin against their God and earn His wrath. Balaam’s end, then, comes in Yehovah’s revenge on Midian, and this wayward prophet dies with the godless men from whom he sought riches and honor. We consider the lesson in the life of this unstable and vacillating man.

We consider the book of Exodus in the law, which in Hebrew is “These are the Names,” and speaks of the names of those God redeemed, thus being the book of redemption. The second book of Psalms focuses on the nation of Israel, around which God centers His work and purposes. Psalm 42 is a psalm of the sons of Korah, a man who died in rebellion against God in the book of Numbers, but his sons bravely stood apart from him. The Psalm is of one in trouble, calling to Jehovah for help. Psalm 43 takes up the theme of one cut off from God’s altar, but hopeful to come there and worship once again.

In Psalm 41, David is on a bed of sickness because of his sin, but he considers the poor still, and asks for Jehovah’s help in light of enemies who gloat over his infirmity, convincing themselves that he will never rise from his sickbed. Yet David trusts in the LORD, and knows He will be gracious to him. Then, a doxology closes off this first, Genesis book of Psalms.

In Psalm 39, David writes as ill by direct intervention of the LORD in punishment. Apparently, after his sin with Bathsheba and murdering her husband Uriah, Jehovah struck him with a terrible illness. Then, faced with wicked men who spoke kindly but planned his downfall, David spoke no word. Later, musing before the fire and watching the blazing death of a moth, he compares his days to this short-lived creature, and pleads for Yahweh’s aid. In Psalm 40, we have a remembrance and reminiscence of David’s history. First his exaltation to coronation and kingship, then his great sin, and then his day of trouble, ending with a call on Yehovah for help.

In this message, David cries to Yehovah for help in trouble, first of all because of a terrible illness he was suffering from, and secondly because of the secret plots of enemies against him. Though he had done them good, they returned for this seeking his calamity. Considering this situation, that it was after his sin with Bathsheba, and that it probably was during the three years Absalom was carrying his plot to take the throne forward, while the illness debilitated David to the extent he could not oppose the scheme of his son Absalom and his confederates.

In this message, we continue the long, acrostic psalm 37, in which David contrasts the wicked with the righteous. It deals with the problem of the current prosperity of the lawless. In Psalm 36, David considers that the rebellious have no fear of God, at the same time flattering themselves that they have no need of him. He considers their wicked words and schemes, and yet contrasts this to the grace God has for those who serve Him. He will satisfy them with good. Then, Psalm 37 is an acrostic psalm, exhorting to patience in well-doing in spite of the temporary prosperity of the lawless. He urges not to get angry about the evildoers or jealous of their success, for their end will come suddenly. Trust in the Lord and delight in Him, rather. The wicked will be cut off, but the righteous will inherit the earth, which will be a delight to behold in God’s kingdom.

In this Psalm, David prays regarding both his open and concealed enemies, asking for deliverance and following this up with promises of praise. David speaks of those who hated him without a cause, even though he had loved them. He thinks particularly of one whom he had been most concerned and attentive when he was wounded, who now is rejoicing over David’s trouble. He speaks of God’s great coming qahal of the kingdom of God, in which he will speak of all Jehovah’s deliverance of him.
