Runner Up Article Below; EnjoyCharityBy Helen 7AIf first mention the word ”charity”, what comes into your head? Is it donating money to a charity organization? Yes, that is a type of charity, but for our age, as a teenager, we don’t have the power to really control money, so for me, I think that helping other people in my family, also doing something like thanking the people who helped not only our community, also even our province, our country, can be charity. And yes, in my life, I did something like this, and I felt really happy that I helped or thanked those people.First, I think helping our family member is a type of charity. Just a few days ago, my aunt had some problem with her speaker. The speaker was used for their dancing after dinner. She was pressing on one button to make the speaker off, but it doesn’t work, so she asked me: “Helen, do you know how to turn this off?” and then I looked at the speaker, and pressed another button beside the button she pressed, and it turned off successfully. She thanked me and I said you’re welcome. Just a very small thing happened, just helped my family member, made my heart felling really warm. And I believe, that could be a type of charity.Helping our community is also a type of charity. In the summer holiday of 2021, our choir held a concert-“the children on the ‘moon’”. It was a charitable performance. The main purpose of the concert was to thank the people who helped us during the covid-19 period. We even invited a famous doctor from Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital. We sang a song about thanking other people at last and gave flower to these people we invited. They were really great. Without them, maybe the virus trend in our city would be worse. It’s just thanking them, made me think we gave them warmth, so I think that this is also charity.Charity, we don’t really need to donate money, but most importantly warmth. When everyone is happy, that is charity.

Winning Article Below; Enjoy People should not put their first responsibility for their family, friends, or neighbours needsby Alex Mao As problems like Covid, poverty, and global warming have become more prevalent in recent years, many people have taken action to address them, rearranging their priorities to do so. But I disagree strongly with people who are taking their surroundings as the priority, and I think that's why many people go through life terrified that there's no point to it. Without doubt, generosity is one of the most vital things in the society, yet I still believe that charity is low efficient. This is due to the fact that wealthier nations focus more on environmental concerns, whereas poor nations have greater need for aid in addressing issues of extreme poverty. There are less than 200 medical practitioners serving a population of about 5 million in a country known as The Republic of Liberia. In addition, there is often little access to education in these areas; for example, in Burkina Faso, 77% of the population is illiterate. These hardships are only the tip of the iceberg for Africans; In fact, just existing is a boon for them, something that people in rich countries will have a hard time imagining. Therefore, if we just spend lots of attention on surroundings, then other problem will be incredibly tough to fix. To boil the issue down to its smallest component, problems will arise in many contexts because people will put other people and their environment ahead of themselves. Some parents, recognizing the importance of family above all else, work tirelessly to ensure their kids get the best possible education. If the end result is not what the parents want, then tensions within the family are bound to rise. In the end, this did more harm to families than good by placing more stress on children. We are taught to be generous with our interests and the interests of others, which is an important part of society, but this can lead some to neglect their own personal growth and the kind of person they ultimately want to become. Some mental diseases, such as depression, may be the result of placing too much emphasis on others. Sadly, it appears that no matter how many people you have in your life, eventually they will all leave you. It's too late if folks only understand this after their friends have abandoned them. As a result, people will be able to focus on the needs of others when they first prioritize their own. The ability to shape one's own destiny and successfully navigate the unforeseeable future and its attendant repercussions is the result of cultivating self-awareness. What I'm claiming is that we should put ourselves first without putting others last. In conclusion, I consider it irresponsible for people to view their closest personal relationships as their primary duty. This is because, ultimately, after losing even a small number of friends, as is inevitably going to happen, all it creates are people who have no idea why they are still alive.

Winning Article Below; Ready Player OneReady player one is a classic science fiction movie about a world that literally lives by a game called “The OASIS”. The theme is mainly about the difference of reality and virtual reality. The setting is a time in which VR is taking over reality and people cannot resist the “greater world” created by AI. The movie persuades us to live in reality and not to get addicted to the internet.There is one very famous actor in the movie. He is also the protagonist: Tye Sheridan. He is famous for participating in this movie and for acting as cyclops in the X men series of Marvel.As said in the starting of the film, the OASIS is the brainchild of James Halliday. Everyone loves him and worships him as much as they worship his creation.But unfortunately, James Halliday died after he created the OASIS. Before he died, he created an Easter egg and three keys to the egg in the game, and he announced that whoever earns the egg will inherit his share in his company’s stock and have total control of the OASIS. In my opinion, the whole plot is pretty clear. It’s about different forces trying to win the contest of Haliday and rule the OASIS. The protagonist, Wade Watts plays as Parzival as his avatar and tries to win the contest together with Art3mis(not a typo), Aech, Daito and Sho(All avatar names). They have to go against the head of IOI company-Nolan Sorrento because Sorrento also wants to rule the OASIS.The movie was considered a huge success because it was the concentration of pop culture in the 20th century. No movie has done the same before. It scored an extremely high ticket office in a short time because of this. But this also caused a little flaw: everything seemed a bit too prevalent, so the movie was not so popular with old people, it’s not a movie that suits all ages.However, I still strongly recommend this movie to teenagers. We can learn about the pop culture in the 20th century and prevent ourselves from internet addiction, which is a serious issue in the modern age. We can learn what games are truly about in our lives.

I trek through the muddy, mottled sea of withered roses, with the extreme guilt, passion, and love. A biting breeze of the smell of decaying body blows my face. “I’m not petrified,” my lips squirmed, “how can I be horrified by my own love?” But then, my legs start to tremble; my spine begins to chill. A sudden, dazzling light forces me to look up, where a sinister full moon is hanging on the pitch-black canvas. The emissary-a solitary crow drops me a rust, timeworn key, then, it disappears in an absolute despair of the endless darkness. I drag my bramble-scratched legs, splash, splash, step by step. Standing just in front of that haunted, horrendous house, the silhouette of the solemn stone of Venus swish passed the creaky, wooden door. But then, I suddenly realize the Venus is staring at me! As an invisibly enormous hand is grabbing my neck. I’m about to be…stifled. Gradually, the piercing red drops on my head. As I look up, I saw a distorted reflection of myself in it’s grey eyeballs.

Some invisible barriers still separated them, but the wall crumbled a little more every time the thing stalked along its length, testing its strength.He could not remember his name.That was the first thing he’d forgotten when the darkness enveloped him weeks or months or eons ago. Then he’d forgotten the names of the others who had meant so much to him. He could recall horror and despair – only because of the solitary moment that kept interrupting the blackness like the steady beat of the drum. A few minutes of screaming and blood and frozen wind made him shivered.So, he remained bound in night, witnessing the scream and the blood and the impact of the flesh on stone. He knew he should struggle; knew he had struggled in those final seconds before it has manipulated his whole body…He saw it. An evil, vicious demon. A desperado. A tyrant. An unhuman being with no love and feelings in its dead meat body. He remembers the first time that they met each other: he was a boy full of bravery, and regardless, never thought it was too late to make this tiny mistake-- He gave away all his love and exchange it with his astonishing reputation. By the end of making all his choices he thought he would stop, but he underestimated the ability of it---he wants more. He wants everything to be his, he wants to get everything he could get and turn it into money…but it is already there waiting for him to drop in his trap, tortured him and ripped him into small pieces. When he realizes that he was wrong, it is too late, no chances for him to redeem and regret. He begins to be shriveled and collapsed into senseless, numbness meat.He had never felt this way before, like burst of pain flowing in his blood, but also same as a wisp of cold breeze burning on his skin. We human beings are curious, energetic, and innovative, always exploring. It’s the artists’ works that fulfill our need for communication and understanding, and it is through the creation and appreciation of art that we are thoroughly revitalized. So, we need to study art to inspire our creativity and understand how to discover true beauty.Studying art can help us better understand and explore problems, also inspire our potential abilities from it. Some people might not take it seriously, because they simply don't really understand the importance of art, they do not think studying art helps us gain knowledge but think it is useless. I believe many people may say it's just a pastime and entertainment, a waste of time. But when you really understand the meaning and then look at the works of these artists, you will be struck by its mystique. Because it’s kind of culture. Art can shape people's qualities and broaden people's cognition. More importantly, many artists’ works are inspired by some inspirations or their own experiences. For example, some artists in the past used their paintings to reveal a truth to the audience or to satirize the society at that time. If people don't study art, then who will create these meaningful works afterwards, people will lack creativity and divergent thinking. Sometimes studying art can also help us understand the macro cultural background of the work. In addition, there is no shortcut to learning art, you will only constantly refresh your understanding of art and discover more artistic mysteries from it. Painting, as well, you need to spend a huge amount of time completing one work even though your inspiration for creating this work is only a moment.In our school, studying art is very important, as our Huili value said: Courage, respect, integrity, kindness, and responsibility. From my perspective, respect definitely includes art. We need to respect art and artists. But how do we respect them? The only way is to learn about art, to explore how they feel in their hearts and why they want to create it. In this way, we will respect art and experience the sacred ness of it. Winning Article Below;FINDING JOY IN ART Arts are integral parts of human development and civilization. Moreover, arts are known to improve one’s nature and temperaments. Furthermore, the self-discipline required to be excellent in any bastion of art benefits other areas of one’s life.Last year, I performed in the school musical “Seussical Jr.” I was afraid I would perform poorly since I was not skilled at acting, dancing, or singing. However, my involvement in the musical improved me significantly. I used to be extremely self-conscious; however, one whole practice of rehearsing on the stage got rid of my inhabitation, and I found myself miraculously confident on the stage. Moreover, my singing and acting skills had tremendous improvement. At the end of three shows, the entire cast, including me, was awarded a sense of accomplishment that only performing art could endow. Most importantly, we could safely claim that it would remain one of our most cherished memories.Apart from the school musical, my participation in Huili’s orchestra gives me a sense of mission and achievement. I play as the first violinist in the orchestra, and our responsibility is to learn the two complete pieces of music by the end of the first two weeks of school. Since the music pieces were generally quite complex, they required all of us to practice daily on our own. So far, every one of us could play flawlessly by the end of the two weeks, proving that all of the musicians in the orchestra have the self-discipline to practice diligently.I am grateful that Huili has provided several opportunities for students to display their talents in various areas of arts, which allows us to relax after a tremendous amount of work from the academic subjects. Pablo Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist.” Huili has fostered the artist in its students by promoting performing art. Moreover, Arts, especially performing art, motivates students to be enhanced versions of themselves and increases their confidence in their overall abilities. We, as students, are grateful to Huili for continuing to support its students in their artistic endeavors and cultivating students’ unceasing pursuit of artistic excellence.
