How is Christmas a story of hope? It’s not just because of Jesus. It’s because of WHO Jesus was and is. It is only because of the divine nature of Jesus, the fact that God robed himself in flesh, that we have hope for today and hope for eternity.

View Details

There are a number of different ways churches operate today. But how did Jesus want the church to operate? Come and see? Or go and tell? We see that Jesus went to the people who never would have come to him. He was on mission to go and share the news of his kingdom with all those who most desperately needed to hear.

View Details

Guest speaker Matthias Haeusel speaks on church planting and what that looks like in a biblical aspect.

View Details

Does the church do anything besides what happens on Sunday mornings? There is a tremendous amount effort that goes in, on a daily basis, to share the gospel with the world both in word and deed. This means organizations that are working to rescue the most marginalized people in the world such as She Is Safe which rescues girls from human sex trafficking.

Does justice mark the end of a story? Last week we saw Haman meet justice and it sure made the story feel like it had been resolved. The problem is that there is still that law Xerxes signed to see the Jews wiped out. What is God going to do? God leads Esther to realize that her salvation is not enough. Her salvation should lead to her seeking the salvation of all of her people.

View Details

As things have seemed to continue getting worse and worse in Esther’s story, today things actually seem to be going Esther’s way. Haman is exposed to be the wicked man that he is and he is served justice in maybe the most ironic way possible.

View Details

As Mordecai sat in sackcloth and ashes, he could not have had any idea that Xerxes was going to have a sleepless night that led to a reminder of how Mordecai saved his life. In a beautiful moment of irony, Xerxes has Haman plan Mordecai’s party while thinking the party is going to be for Haman himself. We see the beautiful justice that God brings to his people.

View Details

Sometimes God has some really hard assignments for us. Have you ever asked, “God, are you sure?” Like there’s no way he could really be assigning something like that. There’s no way he could want me to do something that dangerous. And yet, God intentionally assigns hard assignments. He does this because he wants to draw deeper levels of faith out of us while he partners with us to accomplish his good will.

View Details

Because of Haman’s wrath, Xerxes signed into law that all the Jews could be killed. Mordecai, Esther’s uncle, found out and he wept and put on sackcloth. He went to Esther and told her that she needed to go before the king to try to save the lives of her people. The problem is that going before the king without be beckoned could result in death…

View Details

Haman is a terribly evil person in the book of Esther. He has created a plan to kill all of the Jews. Somehow he’s gotten the king to sign a plan into law to kill all the Jews because the king has not realized that his own wife is a Jew. Where is God? Why would he let his people get wiped out? We will see that God is always moving for the good of his people.

View Details

As if the deeds of king Xerxes weren’t already bad enough, he has now made the decision to gather up women and make them go through beauty treatments to see which one could please him the most. It is within this gross abuse of power that Esther finds herself as she has become one receiving beauty treatments and responsible for pleasing the king.

View Details

As Xerxes throws a wild party he calls in his queen and she refuses. This causes drama like you could not believe. Xerxes flexed his power for his own benefit and to prove to other leaders how great he and his possessions were. Xerxes and his queen had a toxic relationship. Maybe you’ve wondered, “How does God feel about toxic relationships?” We see that even in a story where God’s name is not mentioned, that he still cares about the vulnerable and desires for people to flourish.

View Details

The book of Esther is one of the most interesting books in the Bible for one simple reason. It never mentions God. It has left many people asking the question, “Where is God?” Is he actually there? Is it possible God left? Ultimately, Esther teaches us that even though God’s name is never mentioned he is still, very much, in control. He is still very much protecting his people.

View Details

Many today are asking a simple question. What’s the point of the church? Is the church even relevant anymore? The problem is that so many churches have adopted a strategy that has nothing to do with what Jesus actually called the church to be. The church is relevant because we still have a mission for Jesus and he is still actively saving and changing lives.

View Details

What does God want from me? God has a plan for reaching your world. The people around you have specifically been put there so that you can reach them with the good news of Jesus.

View Details

This week we concluded our series on wisdom. We can all agree that it is wise to plan ahead. If wisdom is the application of knowledge, planning is very much wisdom in action. Some take planing more seriously than others, but it’s safe to say that we all know what it’s like to have a plan and then watch that plan fall apart. What we do with those pieces of broken plans also takes wisdom. Do we fall apart as well, or do we surrender to the Master’s Plan and see where God’s plans take us?

View Details

What do I do if my friends are leading me away from God? What if they pressure me to sin? The Bible has a lot to say about the people we keep around us. We need friends who are going to help us in our relationship with Jesus and we need to place boundaries around relationships that are not good for us.

View Details

Why does the church care so much about money? Actually, it may be better to ask why God cares so much about money. Jesus talks a tremendous amount about money. The Proverbs even encourage how we should be wise with our money. The goal is to use finances as a tool to share the blessings of God, but to simultaneously ensure that we do not allow finances to become a master over us.

View Details

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Ever heard that phrase? The problem is it is not true. Words have so much power. Words can hurt, words can empower, and words will impact every relationship around you. So what in the world do we do with the tongue? We learn to tame it so that we can listen like Jesus does and we get wisdom so we can speak with grace and truth like Jesus does.

View Details

We’ve learned in this series that wisdom is different from knowledge. Wisdom is not measured by intelligence, but one’s ability to learn, adapt, survive, and even thrive. How do we apply what we learn in order to better our chances at survival? At success? Within relationships? The connection between knowledge and application is where wisdom is born.  And as we’ve learned in this series, the best place to “get wisdom” is from our creator Himself.

View Details

What is wisdom? Wisdom is the ability to live a skillful life. Have you ever gotten to know people that just seem to know what they’re doing in life? Like no matter what life throws at them they know what to do? That’s called wisdom. That’s exercising the gift of wisdom that God gives in order for us to thrive in this life.

View Details

What is the process of wisdom? It starts with trusting in the Lord. The wisdom that we need to walk in this life, a life that God has seen all of our yesterdays and every tomorrow, is a wisdom that can only be found in Him. The Bible tells us to trust in the Lord and to rest in the Lord. Those things have to be related - because when we trust in the Lord, we can REST assured that He is providing what we need to navigate this life that He’s set before us.

View Details

How do we get wisdom? Fear God. The proverbs say that the beginning of wisdom is to get wisdom, but then it breaks down that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom is knowledge applied. God has given his people a job to do and the only way to accomplish the things that he has for us is for us to practice wisdom in this life.

View Details

The Bible is often misunderstood regarding sex. Does the Bible say sex is bad? Does the Bible say its good? Pastor Ricky showed us that the Bible says that sex is a gift, but specifically, and only, within the confines of marriage. God gave sex as a good gift, but some gifts are only to be used in certain ways.

What does God have for me? Many people are willing to settle for far less than God wants for them. Pastor Andrew Cromwell of Koinonia Church encourages us to press into all that God has and wants in our lives.

View Details

How can I save my marriage? Maybe you’ve asked that before. Humility in marriage is one of the best first steps you can take in working to save your marriage. Humility means serving your spouse, putting their needs above your own, and loving the way that Jesus has taught us to love.

View Details

How do I engage with conflict in my marriage? Scripture actually has a lot to share with us regarding marriage and how to live out a godly marriage that reflects the love of Jesus. Marriage is a beautiful beacon pointing to covenantal relationship between Christ and his church. Learning how to engage conflict well helps our marriages to show the rest of the world Jesus and the gospel.

View Details

Will God provide a spouse for me? Maybe, maybe not. Many will get married but some have a calling to singleness that God actually considers an advantage over those who get married. Singles have so much to offer the kingdom of God and should relish their unique opportunity to live life with Jesus.

View Details

What is the center of your affections? God calls us not to envy because he knows that what our hearts want our hands will take. It was an act of taking that brought all of creation crashing into our current sinful state because Adam and Eve took from a tree they should not have. God knows that if he has our hearts then our propensity for wrong plummets.

View Details

What does it mean to bear false witness? There is lying, there is slander, and then there is blasphemy. God takes all of these seriously because he is a God of truth and desires for his people to live in truth. God cares about justice and the role our words play in justice.

View Details

Am I guilty of stealing? Many of us think we have a pretty clear cut idea whether we steal. You may be surprised how vast of an idea this is for God. When God called his people not to steal he had more in mind than simply taking objects that do not belong to you.

View Details

Can God save my marriage? Maybe that’s a question you’ve found yourself asking. The reality is that marriage is incredibly difficult and takes a tremendous amount of work. It is likely that at some point in a marriage you would ask this question. The Bible emphatically answers that God is for marriage and can has more than enough grace to save any and every marriage.

Murder. From the dawn of time, this has been THE sin above all sins. From Genesis to Revelation, murder is seen as an assault on the image of God in human beings. What is murder, and what does God’s Word tell us about it? Today, we tackle a number of controversial topics as we explore commandment #6: Thou Shall Not Murder.

View Details

Do all roads lead to heaven? In fact, Jesus died and rose again becoming the only road. He met with a couple on the road to Emmaus where he eventually opened their eyes to reveal that he is the only one who could bring them from a spiritual death, back to life. Because he was the one who died and came back to life.

What does Jesus want from me? Palm Sunday showed that Jesus was not looking for the people to shout his praise a single time. Jesus is not looking for something from you as much as he is simply looking for you. When Jesus fully gets the real you he is able to change you and you will become a fully-devoted follower of Jesus.

View Details

What is God’s plan for me? Have you ever found yourself asking that? The prophet Isaiah actually thought that he already had this question answered as he casually followed God and lived his life. What he later found was that God’s plan was for Isaiah to see the enormity of God and allow that to move him from nominal Christianity to radical Christianity.

View Details

How often do you think of honor as a verb? Usually when we think of honor, it’s the honor bestowed upon others; God, Jesus, rulers, judges, etc. This week we looked at honor in contrast to shame and honor in the way we treat others, more specifically, parents.

View Details

What does God think about hustle culture? God loves work and even commanded Adam and Eve to work before the fall. But he also showed the example of rest on the seventh day. A restful rhythm is one of the ways that God reminds us and the people around us that we trust God is the one in control, not us.

View Details

What does it mean to not use the Lord’s name in vain? You might be surprised to find out that the original Hebrew shows us that it’s all about how we carry the name of God. This helps us to realize that the people of God carry the name of God with them and be aware of how they are carrying that name.

View Details

What is an idol? You might be surprised to find out that it’s more than a statue representing than a false god. There are many things that creep into our lives and attempt to take the place of God and lower the God of the Bible to a lesser status. The key to being the human you were created to be is keeping God where he should be in your life.

View Details

What does loving God look like? This week marked the first installment of our new series in the 10 commandments. Though these may seem like ancient laws, they are actually considered the 10 “words” of God and they are made in order to teach God’s covenant people how to love him and others the right way.

View Details

What does it mean to follow Jesus? In one of the very last things that Jesus says to his followers he tells them that he is the true vine and that they are to abide in him. He tells them this 10 times in just 11 verses. Without Jesus we have no life, we have no purpose, we have no salvation, we have nothing. Jesus realizes that life is incredibly difficult and that is the reason he calls us to abide in him.

View Details

Is Jesus the only way to heaven? There are a lot of different religions and a lot of ideas about heaven and eternal life. It seems rather arrogant to claim that Jesus is the only way. But Jesus is the only one who did what it took to redeem the relationship between God and man. Jesus understood that truth is not subjective and he himself is the truth.

View Details

Have you ever wondered why Jesus let his friend die? Lazarus was one of Jesus’ friends and when someone came to request Jesus because Lazarus was sick Jesus idled and did not arrive in the city until Lazarus had already been dead for four days. Jesus needed those around him to understand that he is the resurrection. He is life. There is no resurrection or life outside of Jesus. Even if his timing seems strange, you can always trust Jesus.

View Details

What did Jesus mean by calling himself the good shepherd? Jesus wanted to teach his followers that he is the good shepherd who lays down his life for his sheep. He is not just willing to lay his life down, but he actually did and then he that he triumphed over sin. There are many false shepherds who are looking to take our attention, but Jesus calls us to closely follow him and recognize his voice.

View Details

Who can be saved? Is there anyone who cannot enter into the God’s kingdom? Jesus declares himself to be the door and says that all are welcomed who is willing to believe. Jesus is the door into an entirely new and transformed life. This is why Jesus claims that he came to give us life and to give it to the fullest.

View Details

Why is the world so full of darkness? It is because the world is in desperate need of Jesus. He is the one who declared himself to be the light of the world. This means that we no longer have to walk in the dark, nor do we have to tolerate the dark. We can walk in the light, and bring that light to all those around us.

View Details

Can we trust Jesus? How often do we forget that he is remarkably good to us? Jesus declares that he is the bread of life. He declares that he is the only one who is able to fully satisfy us and provide for what we need.

View Details

Christmas is a reminder that even though we are dirty and sometimes a little hard to be around, Jesus came to welcome us back into his presence. He came to bring back access to the Father. This means that though we live in a broken and dirty world, that the things that separated us from God were handled by Jesus and he works as our priest to bring us true and lasting joy.

View Details

What does love look like? Love looks like Jesus. And he showed us perfect love through the Christmas story. Christmas means that all of the old things have passed away and something new has come. All of the hate and brokenness has been undone in Christ and he was the beginning of a new creation where all things are once again made right and love triumphs. Jesus is our king of love.

View Details

Who is Jesus? Why did Jesus come? Jesus, God in the flesh, came as a little baby to grow up and die for our sins on the cross. His birth is the reason we can have hope and we celebrate Christmas this year as a time of hope.

View Details

Is it possible that all the lacquer smothered on the Christmas story has taken the bite out of it? Has Jesus been reduced to a warm, fuzzy feeling and excuse to shop and eat? Hebrews is written to reclaim the true greatness of Jesus. Jesus is not a baby we talk about during the holidays to conjure up good vibes. Jesus is the supreme prophet, the owner of all things, and the exact imprint of God’s being. He is not a prophet, he is THE PROPHET.

We begin our advent series by reminding ourselves that Jesus came as the Prophet of Peace, in an effort to remind ourselves that Christmas declares that Jesus is supreme over all.

NOTE: There was minor glitch toward the end of the sermon where point 3 (Make Christmas about Jesus) is briefly clipped.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

View Details

How far does forgiveness go? Can Jesus forgive the darkest moments of your life? The Bible shows us that the grace of Jesus goes far beyond any evil.

View Details

What does it mean to make Jesus Lord? What areas of your life does Jesus want? Jesus talks more about money than almost anything else in the New Testament and maybe that's because Jesus had something bigger in mind. Jesus wants you, the whole of you.

View Details

Bringing in a brand new series pastor Ricky is introducing to us some of the rhythms that our Rooted participants are learning. These are fundamental activities that followers of Jesus fall into. So, where should Christians start? One of the first rhythms is that of prayer and devotion. This is time praying and reading the word of God.

View Details

What does the Bible have to say about what happens to us when we die? You might be surprised to hear this, but all the way back in Daniel we hear about what’s to happen after we die. God will judge the just and the unjust and there are eternal consequences for whether or not we chose to be on the side of Jesus.

View Details

What does the Bible teach us about the last days? Daniel shows us that while things may get difficult that Jesus is working all things together for his second coming when all things will be restored to himself.

View Details

Does the Bible talk about more than what we can see with our eyes? Daniel 10 emphatically answers yes. This is a moment in Scripture where we get to see behind the scenes and see the spiritual things that are going on in every day life than we normally recognize.

View Details

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. (Matthew 6:21.  Why does the church talk about money? Sometimes talking about money can be intimidating, but Jesus often times took on the intimidating for maximum impact. Jesus talked about money and expects his church to talk about money because he recognizes that money and faith cannot be separated.

View Details

This week pastor John reminded us the importance of our actions and attitudes to the world around us. How can you tell if someone is a real Christian? Jesus told us that the world we know that we belong to him by our love for one another. We are called to be salt and light.

View Details

Daniel receives a vision of what some consider to be the greatest of all prophecies. Daniel is given a vision that shows him exactly how and even when the messiah will come and reconcile his people back to him. So can the Bible be trusted? Daniel proves that the answer is an emphatic yes.

View Details

As Daniel received what may be the greatest of all prophecies we also see him engage in an incredible prayer. Daniel’s prayer stands as an example to us for how we can and should pray.

View Details

Daniel chapter 8 sees prophecies so intense that even Daniel trembled out of fear and lack of understanding. So why look at it today? We look today because we know that God gives us a deep hope in the knowledge that he is in control of the future no matter how bad things may seem and we remain called to be a light in an ever growing darkness.

View Details

The second half of the book of Daniel is full of symbols and visions. Does this have any bearing on our life today? Pastor Ricky shows how Daniel teaches to keep the focus on Jesus even as evil kingdoms rise.
