After the attack on runner Ahmaud Arbery last year, I started paying more attention to runner safety.  After a lot of research, I discovered how often runners are unfortunately attacked, and not just in the United States, but world wide. No matter the skin color or gender, all runners are potential victims of being attacked on a run. This episode discusses some of the more popular stories as well as some personal experiences.

This episode discusses being considerate when trying to be encouraging. We all have different experiences and journeys. Some days are good, others are bad. We should try to avoid being harmful when we intended to be helpful. What's meant to push someone to continue, may push them to quit. Think before you speak, or maybe don't say anything at all. Whatever you do, just don't be a douche!

When we allow our failures to get to us emotionally, we become bitter, sometimes even towards our friends, loved ones, and supporters. Nobody truly enjoys feeling this way but it's a natural emotion that can occur and take time to get over. Some personal running failures and let down in 2021 led me to become bitter and almost enjoy seeing people fail. I was not happy with that mindset and had to re-evaluate myself and my outlook on life. I discuss this and provide some encouragement for anyone else struggling with the feeling of bitterness.

As a professional runner, getting a sponsorship can be a big deal. Whether it's clothing and gear, races and travel, media opportunities or more, every little bit helps. Unfortunately, in a sport that isn't as popular and funded as other professional sports, running provides limited opportunities, making it harder to get selected by brands. When you accomplish something, you should experience some sort of joy or happiness. It shouldn't feel like relief. You should be able to enjoy what you do and the journey along the way. If you're always feeling pressure, constantly stressed, and not able to appreciate it, is it really worth it anymore? We need to focus more on our mental health and less about what others may think or say. Life is short and because of that, we should make it as fun as possible. It makes no sense to put yourself through something you don't want to, especially if you don't have to.

Whether a beginner or experienced runner, even one that has participated in races before, sometimes we need a reminder that running should be fun at all times. Yes, we're always trying to improve, and that can lead to some serious and focused races, but if we allow others, or even our own ego's to get in the way, we may be missing out on some memorable experiences. This episode features a special guest, Kim, host of The Run Wave Podcast and co-host of Le Twins Experience. We discuss some personal mistakes and offer some suggestions for newer runners.

Last weekend I chased four goals again while running the Long Haul 100 mile race. Although I failed to accomplish three of them, I learned more about myself by accomplishing the fourth. There are some goals and dreams we want to accomplish but we don't want to do what it takes to accomplish them. Many of us want the end result without having to put in the work to get there. This is an episode to encourage and motivate everyone to chase their dreams instead of others. A reminder that while we're still living, we have time to reach them as long as we don't quit, and keep trying.

I discuss redeeming yourself after having a bad race or simply a race that didn't go as planned or hoped for. In life and in running, if we don't succeed, no matter how many times we've tried, we should be encouraged to learn from our mistakes and try again. We shouldn't accept failure and should attempt to redeem ourselves while aiming to improve.

I discuss races at 4 different distances where I was disappointed and came back to redeem the previous experience. Some went well, some didn't. Some took multiple attempts. It's all about getting better each day and having faith that you can reach your goals.
