My brother and I had goldfish. We loved those little pets so you can imagine how sad we were when we found them bloated and floating belly up. What happens next is one of my best childhood memories.
Friday nights were taco night! That was because taco seasoning is the only spice that can cover the putrid smell of liver and onions, which was my dad’s favorite meal every Friday night. He would tease us and chase us around with a piece of liver. But my mom had a break from cooking on Saturdays and my dad would reach into the fridge and get out the white bread, yellow mustard, and a special sausage and make me a Braunschweiger sandwich. Luckily or unluckily for me, my college roommate spoke German and quickly educated me on this horrific tale.
My parents threatened us with The Dreaded Rutabaga if we didn’t eat our vegetables and “clean our plates”. I never saw one and I thought that maybe my dad was just making it up. Twenty years later, at Culinary School, I came face to face with my dreaded enemy! This time it is an Epic Win!
Warning! This story is graphic. I was working as a banquet director and one of my young staff was constantly asking me to come to see his new house. I finally went to see it and it was basically a dump with little to no furniture. But to this young man, it was his pride and joy; he shared all his plans with me and spoke about every room with such enthusiasm. I told him what a nice house he had bought. Two weeks later, he was carjacked and shot point blank in the face. Only then did I realize how important my opinion and approval of his house was to him.
I threw a surprise birthday dinner for my friend T.H. He had been homeless, had an abusive family, and had just got off drugs. I wanted to make him a special cake but he only likes banana bread. So I winged it and made a banana bread cake. He talked about that cake forever and then one day he told me how that cake saved his life.
Things went from bad to worse out at the migrant camp. The new owner and his armed guards with attack dogs had threatened us never to return. As they screamed at Luis that he would be shot if he ever came back to try to help the Oaxacan Indians, something powerful overtook him and he found himself calling down a curse on this modern day Pharoh until he let his slaves go free.
We’d been going out to the migrant camps in Mexico to help the Oaxaca Indian children and families. But the property has just been turned over to the 35 year old son and he immediately starts enslaving and endangering his workers. We walked right into the center of the danger and the dog attacked me.
My friend Maria has gone into labor with her 5th child at the migrant camp in the riverbed. Everyone was drunk, including the midwife who reached up inside of Maria and yanked out the baby, the chord, and the entire uterus onto the dirt. It’s become a race against time and a race for hope. It’s another crazy original story from Ann McCaffrey and her Adventure’s Around the World.
It’s our first time in France and it sure seems like The Anarchists are using the same map that we are...it made for a freaky time for sure. Listen to another crazy original story from Ann McCaffrey and Annie’s Adventures Around the World.
“Come camping with my family!” My boyfriend said. “You can use the time to get to know each other better.” He said. This little “bonding time” in the desert quickly turned into The Vacation from Hell.
The head of the orphanage willingly drove my friend from South Africa down to the orphanage but he was such a tall guy that he didn’t hardly fit in the back seat....it probably saved his life.
Many times an adventure will naturally lead to a bit of danger and sometimes these moments turn out in amazing ways. Take for instance “The Van”....you hardly could kill it - no windows, filled with donation for the pickers, horrible road conditions, facing irate bulls in the river beds of Mexico; it’s an amazing danger waiting to happen.
My friends from the US are coming to visit me in Northern Germany. I have no money and no way to get around...until “the gift”.
A delayed flight, the wrong airport, 100 angry people, no food, no water, and a young mother, a soldier, with a toddler and a nursing baby. I know what I have to do....
I need to put off 3 little girls who are SUPER nosy. So I come up with the perfect story.
I had been bullied since I was 6 years old but now, at age 12, I was ready to set the rules of engagement.
My mom hardly ever left us with alone with my father because he was a world-class prankster. If you don’t know what Short-sheeting is, you’ll soon find out!
My mom had repeatedly called for us to come home and go to bed......Finally, she grabbed a white sheet and took matters into her own hands.
“If this is the Axe Murderer, we have a gun! And if this is Steve, STOP IT! I mean it!!”
Something positive came out of my horrible flight to China. This is a slower version of the story with Slovak translation, perfect for English Learners.
One little blue pill and 18 hours of flying....what could go wrong? This is the slower version of the story with Slovak translation, perfect for English Learners.
A slower version of the story of my epic fail in Germany. Great for English learners; it includes Slovak translation.
A slower version of the infamous story of mixing up one vowel; a great inspiration for English learners.
The adventure continues as 2 friends from the USA come for a visit during the bitter cold winter in Northern Germany. We all try Sauna with the locals.
If the food in Brazil doesn’t get you, the drinks might just kill you! We are being given cups and cups and cups and cups of this National Drink with a Brazilian berry that it’s supposed to be good for us!
We discover a shop where I can get the vomit washed out of my hair for $3.......”O thank you O Golden Hair One! Thank you!”
