Maybe the darkest place of all, how do we navigate death and come through. Matt shares a personal story that speaks volumes to us all.
How do we cope and manage when we're stuck in a mess of our own making? As Martin reflects on an ancient story, we're encouraged that there is a way through it.
ometimes in life there are things we've just got to go through, no matter how much we'd like to avoid them. In this episode we're asking - what do you do when you find yourself having to go through a period of transition? What can keep you firm in the midst of it, so that you come out better on the other side?
Predictability....sounds like a bit of a boring character trait right? But predictability is a sign of consistency & dependability...and these are vital if we want to get better and see the fruit of our efforts. It's even more important if we want to be faithful to God and see God's faithfulness at work in our lives...because our consistency in trusting in Him and seeking to know Him better is matched by His reliability and trustworthiness - just ask Daniel...
This exciting story from the book of Daniel has plenty of relevance for us today.
Damiel 3: how do you manage when life gets too hot to handle? Are you non-flammable like Daniel's friends?
Daniel interprets a weird dream - and shows us that no matter what the political or economic landscape looks like, God is in control.
Daniel and his friends experience the faithfulness of God to build their strength. How can we follow their example
The problem with trying to improve your circumstances is simply that not all circumstances can be improved. Self-help stops being helpful when you can't make your situation better for yourself! But that doesn't mean there's no hope. In a letter written to a group of suffering Christians, Peter (a 1st Century follower of Jesus and leader of the early church), taught his audience to rethink their situation according to where they are SITUATED in God's work in the world. It turns out, God has something pretty special in mind for us, no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in...

How does a world where personal choice is paramount fit with Jesus’ claim to be The Truth?! Prepare to be challenged by this message from Martin.
Got questions? We want to talk with you about them! Email gotquestions@horleybaptist.org.uk and we will respond to you personally.
Sometimes life feels busy. But why are we busy?? Are we seeking approval and recognition from others - or maybe even from God??? Why is this - and have we maybe got our motives and intentions upside down?
Jesus says that he has come to give us an abundant life (John 10:10), and yet he also was very clear that there was a significant cost to being his disciple. What does it mean to carry our cross and follow Jesus, and can it really bring us happiness?
Are we called to give sacrificially? Is this with our money? Then what about all the other things we need... Listen as Martin unpacks this challenging message.
Some people treat faith like a fine piece of china - it needs to be displayed carefully, never mishandled, and if it breaks, you can't put it back together again... But deconstructing faith doesn't have to have to signal the death of your faith...in fact, it can birth a stronger faith than you had before. So let's create a culture within our church where questioning faith is not only accepted, but talked about openly and honestly. Where grappling with faith and wrestling questions through is something everybody is actively engaging with.
Neil brings us the second in our Core Training series - today asking what Passionate Worship looks like and how do we do it?
Where is God when we call on Him? Why doesn't he answer us? In a time of confusion and conflict, Joshua brings us a message that shows us a way forward.
There are many products we buy, use, and put our confidence in without having all the information or fully understanding how they work. In the Gospel of John, we see a man begin to follow Jesus based on limited information. This man, who was born blind, said he only knew one main thing - and that one thing was enough to make him curious about who Jesus really was.
As we look at a miracle of Jesus where a man's life is changed forever, we consider: Do you want to get well?
Helen brings us the second in our 'Bystander Series' looking at an amazing miracle of Jesus and what that has to say to us today.
The first recorded miracle of Jesus: turning water into wine (wow!) - with a bit of a nudge from his mother.

What is the worldview on sex and sexuality? Does God offer an alternative view, and is it good news or antiquated and condemning?
Are we a good friend or a great friend? Do we seek out good or great friends - and what's the difference? Join us as Becky explores the story of David and Nathan.
How do we deal with conflict? Do we make the first move to reconciliation? Do we think we should??
Who are we when we meet others? Are we ourselves - how authenitic do people find us. And do we accept others?
God has created you with a purpose, an ‘Original Design’ that is unique only to you. But do you know what that is, and are you living it out? Or are you in danger of living a life that misses out on the God-given opportunities to serve others?
Have you ever pushed a big red button in your life? You know - the 'there's no turning back now' button of the movies? Maybe you pushed it without realising the consequences...and suddenly you found yourself in a place there’s no going back from!
Ever had a moment of total panic? Of course - we all have! In this video message Becky explores why our culture is so panicked, why we need somewhere to look for guidance and assurance when the panic rises, and how Simon Peter - one of the most influential followers of Jesus - discovered how to quit panicking.
Today we're looking at the Volume Button. Who do you listen to? Are there things you need to turn down...or turn up?
Hey, let's talk about that pesky snooze button...a little too easy to push right? This weekend Martin wants to help you stop snoozing so you can start moving as we kick off a new teaching series!
Compassion has the power to change things...it changes us, it changes those to whom we are showing compassion and it serves Jesus.
We are all called to play a part in God's great mission: we can be World Changers if we work together
Jesus’ primary mission was to seek and save the lost and he made a way for that to be possible and calls us to follow him in making that the primary mission of our church and of our lives.
Jesus announced in his ‘manifesto’ that he had come to serve the poor and he calls us to do the same
How real are we? Are we truthful about life's struggles, or do we try and present a Christianity that is polished, perfect, but ultimately false?
How responsive are you to the Holy Spirit? Are you fully open to how God wants to use you, or are there 'no go' areas in your life?
What sets Christianity a part from society? What makes us stand out? We learn some lessons from the early church on how we can be distinctive in society without separating ourselves from it.
How are we going to make church happen going forward? Well lets look at how the original church was born, and see how that inspires us going forward.
The WHAT? What’s our next steps as a church coming out of this pandemic? What will church look like / change as a result of what we’ve learnt over these past 12 months? How can we re-launch rather than just re-start?
The church is made up of individuals - different shapes and sizes, all with different gifts, and yet all one in Christ. So who are we at HBC? What do we value, and what do we want to become together?
Why do we exist as a church? The answer is found in seven words - to help people find and follow Jesus. So as we return to physical services, are we prepared to rise up and do what is required to make that happen?
Habits are so hard to break because they are the scaffolding that holds our life together. They are often foundational to who we are and how we live, and therefore attempts to break them are often unsuccessful. And yet, those habits that hold us in bondage can be broken through practice and hard work, but most importantly through the power of the Holy Spirit.
Society sells us a lie that in order to be complete we have to be in a relationship and in our desperation to be complete, to be somebody we make bad choices, start unhealthy relationships, and sell our bodies and souls in payment for that lie. And yet the Bible warns us to not look to the ‘world’ to bring fulfilment, because it is only through Christ that we find fullness. We are complete in Christ and Christ is all we need.
What stories to you believe? About life, and success, and being happy. Advertisers are adept at selling a product by telling a lie that our life will be better if we buy/consume/wear/become. So how can we spot the truth from a lie, and live God’s story?
Is there a danger that we push people to one side because we are too busy to give them our attention? Can we create unnecessary barriers between people and Jesus because we judge them and find them wanting? How did Jesus treat those considered 'worthless' and what lessons can we learn from his example?
10 people had an encounter with Jesus and we look at their response. How do we respond when we meet Jesus? Luke 17:11-19
Your words are stones - will you throw them or pave the way? With one command Joseph could have had his brothers executed in a horrible way - revenge for their actions all those years ago. But Joseph had been living his life as God wanted him to, trusting in Him, and ridden his life of bitterness. Joseph was able to look back at his life and see God’s hand in all of it, therefore when the opportunity came to get revenge, Joseph instead paves the way for a better future, and a reunited family.
The third in the series on The Tongue, looking at a passage in Ephesians and contemplating the effects of our words.
James 3:2-12 Be really slow to speak, because the tongue is untameable. Words are powerful - they can make or break or person, build them up or pull them down. Are we aware of how much influence such a small part of us has? Do we know how much destruction we have caused with unchecked words? We need to Remember - Surrender - Confess. Remember the damage the tongue can cause, surrender our words to God, and confess the damage we have caused.
At 25 times in the Gospels we are told that Jesus prayed, often by himself. For Jesus it was a habit that empowered his life and ministry. Do we realise the power and the necessity of prayer? Do we realise that in order to do what God wants of us, we need to put ourselves in a position to hear his voice?
