Every Sphere of Life: Recent Episodes

Dale Tedder

Because Jesus Christ is Lord over every sphere of life, the Christian world and life view is true for, and applies to, every sphere of life. From one’s personal life, to one’s family life, workplace, community, and even the larger culture, Christians are called to submit and bear witness to Jesus Christ… for everything was created by him, through him, and for him. Christians are called, therefore, to live for his glory as his ambassadors and stewards. This podcast will focus on what that “every sphere of life” thinking and living looks like in the everydayness of Christian discipleship.

On this second Sunday of Advent, we are going to have our concept of greatness challenged by Jesus. The metaphor we will use will be a simple, ordinary writing utensil, a pen. If we think of ourselves as humble pens, we will be able to be used greatly by God to inscribe a beautiful message in ourselves and the lives of others. And if we are pens held in the hand of God, as Richard Baxter put it, then what credit is due a pen? Join me today as we redefine greatness so that we can truly pursue it for the glory of God and good of others.

Join me in the mission. What mission? The mission for one hundred godly men? God has called us to make kingdom-minded and kingdom-hearted disciples of all the world, and that includes men. But what article after article point out is that men, and young men in particular, are searching for identity, affirmation, values, purpose, meaning, and more in other places than church. The "online gurus" who may not have selected that moniker for themselves have nonetheless become the place young men are going to learn and grow. Nature abhors a vacuum, and if men in the church are abdicating their roles and responsibilities, then others will take their place. So, join me on this mission to find 100 godly men who will pour their lives into others for the sake of Christ and his Kingdom. Today picks up where last Tuesday's podcast left off. Why should Christians reach out to men? Why should churches have ministries to men? In today's world, younger generations of men are going outside the walls and influence of the church to seek wisdom. Join me today as I reflect on why and how we ought to reach out to men for the sake of Christ and his Kingdom.

Age does not guarantee wisdom. Not even experience guarantees wisdom. There is nothing magical about the lapse of time in one’s life that causes him to become a sage for the ages. The word "disciple" literally means "learner." As disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to be learners of Jesus - his way, his word, his will, and his world. He has been given authority over heaven and earth... and everything that exists was created by him, for him, and through him. In fact, everything is continually sustained by him. That means everything we learn can be used for his glory if we are intentional. We can take things we're interested in... or things we always wanted to study but never made time for... and prayerfully consider how we might learn more about them and use them to glorify God and bless others. We need to keep on learning... learning Jesus.

Christianity is a way of seeing and living… a total world and life view… because Jesus Christ is Lord over every sphere of life. Christianity is about a saving, intimate, experiential, relationship with the living God. But it’s more than that, it is a life of holiness… a life in which we are called to be set apart and different from the fallen, broken, sinful, temporal world in which we live. And yet, even as we are called to not be of the world, we are here for the world. God so loved the world and so must we. We are called to bear witness for Christ and his kingdom as his ambassadors and stewards. Join me in this podcast about Christian discipleship that seeks to equip and encourage you to extend the Kingdom of God into every sphere of life.

This week Ian and I finish up our discussion on the worldview & paradigm shift called the Beatitudes.

View Details

This week Ian and I are talking about The Beatitudes, found in Matthew 5:1-12. To get ready for this week's podcast, why not read these verses and think about what they may mean and how closely you resemble the Christian Jesus is describing in these verses. That can be a painful exercise, but it can also bear much fruit as you prayerfully ask the Lord to help you conform more and more to his likeness.

But remember what we shared in the last episode: Such Christlike character presupposes new birth in Christ. You cannot simply "will" it to happen or accomplish it merely through disciplined effort. It starts with a whole new heart that must first replace your old heart. This happens through the work of God's Spirit bringing about regeneration and you responding by repenting of your sins and trusting the Lord Jesus Christ with your whole life.
