Yet, that young man's tactless vision nevertheless turned into the salvation of his family and the nation of Egypt. Let our reactions reveal a heart changed by grace!
Peter Houston paints the picture from Habakkuk 2:1-4 of Habakkuk's genuine anger and confusion that his nation is in a bad way and yet, to his utter dismay, God proposes to fix it by something far worse: the invasion by Babylon, a terrible and terrifying nation, and the exile of Judah's most able. What on Earth was God doing?!
We have the benefit of knowing how God's plan to purge Judah of its apostasy turned out - but, in our turn, we do not know how God's plans for us will play out. Thus, like Habakkuk, we must live by faith.
Malc reminds us that God gives us the answers we need - necessarily the answers we want! Habakkuk 1:1-17
Tim Lewis explains the love letter in Revelation 3:14-22: Jesus is not mincing His words - those who have ears to hear must swap their reliance on wealth and self-sufficiency for gold refined in the fire, white clothes purified by His blood and salvation for our eyes.

Jo Drew shares how the Holy Spirit has transformed her life, enabling her to share her faith in ways she never imagined. The 'comfort' ( from 'con forte', Latin, with strength) of the Holy Spirit to the disciples bereft of Jesus' physical presence, not only soothed their souls but also strengthened their spirits to change the world.

Trish walks us with Mary, the mother of Jesus, from when she first hears of His conception within her, breaking a 400 year prophet's block; the unborn John being the first to recognise the Saviour, leaping within Elizabeth's womb; initiating and witnessing His ministry and miracles but then being pierced to her heart as the crowd turns against, rejects and crucifies her son!
Just as Mary Magdalene's sorrow was assuaged when Jesus spoke to her at the tomb, imagine how Mary's heart somersaulted when she realised He lived!
Malc expounds from 1 Timothy 6:6-19 how God considers us 'High Net Worth' - Jesus has placed so much more in the bank than our debts.
Simon Guillebaud shows from 1 Corinthians Chapter 4 that our faith is realistic, durable and eternal. "I never realised Jesus was all I needed until Jesus was all I had." 80-year-old Burundi survivor of the massacre of his wife and children. A silver refiner must sit by for every moment of the refining process lest the silver is ruined. The refining is only complete when the refiner can see his face reflected in the pure silver. "Winning is no more than this: to rise each time you fall." The Race, a poem by DH Groberg.
Malc reminds us that the Israelites baulked at the challenge of possessing the promised land and the whole generation perished in the wilderness. Only Joshua and Caleb, the two faithful spies, entered. Numbers 13:1-2, 25-27 and 30-33.
Continuing the advent series - The Jesus who was born into poverty was foretold 700 years before - he has power over the earth but invites us into relationship with him.
Advent is about preparing for the coming of Jesus - are we preparing for the second advent?
From 1 Samuel 13:1-15 Shawn shows how Saul did not have the right heart. When the chips were down he explained away his unbelief. In contrast, David repented. In Chapter 7, under threat of attack by the Philistines, Samuel waits and offers a sacrifice. God answers with thunder and the ensuing rout of the Philistines brings peace for 20 years. Now Saul, again under threat of war with a vastly superior Philistine army, is asked to wait 7 days for Samuel to lead the sacrifice. But, does he wait? No, he offers the sacrifice himself and then seeks to justify his sin. The result was the decapitation of Israel. To emasculate the Israelite power, the Philistines prohibited blacksmiths in the land so much so that the Israelites even had to ask their overlords to sharpen their scythes.

Simon Guillebaud explores how Israel sought a king when Samuel's own sons did not follow their father's way. In their dismay at Samuel's sons, Israel's elders overlooked the Lord's warning in Deuteronomy 17:15 to choose the King He would appoint, while Samuel bore the sadness of his sons' apostasy. Considering Samuel's dismay, Simon quoted another Samuel, Samuel Chadwick, "It is wonderful what God can do with a broken heart if He gets all the pieces." (Apologies - Sermon cut short at 30 minutes due to recording time limit - sorry!)
Hebrews 2:5-11. Peter Blair shows how Jesus, higher than angels was made lower for our sake so that we might become children of God - His brothers and sisters.

Expounding on Acts 8:26-39, Katy takes us into the saddened heart of the Ethiopian Eunuch, faithfully but somewhat dejectedly reading the Scriptures. Since he was banned from entering the Temple by those same Scriptures, he had no-one to explain them. Katy paints the picture of Philip, as an Hellenistic Jew and himself an outsider, being led by the Holy Spirit to run alongside the carriage and hear the Eunuch's lament. Invited to join the stranger in his carriage, Philip shows from the verses the Ethiopian was reading how Jesus became the silent Lamb led to the slaughter so that outsiders could become insiders. His eyes opened, the Eunuch exclaims, "What is there to prevent me from being baptized?" That moment, he became an insider of God's grace.
Hope in Jesus for our future, like an achor for the soul, gives us courage and confidence to step out in the present.
