Laura Bruder works for Brave Love, a pro-adoption movement dedicated to changing the perception of adoption by acknowledging birth moms for their brave decision. Laura and I chat about the impact that creating an adoption plan can have for a mom experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. We discussed the emotions that birth mom go through before and after placing their child with an adoptive family, the benefits of considering an open adoption, the need that birth moms have for a community who understands what they have experience, and how adoptive families can honor the mother of their adopted child. This is a really important and necessary conversation. Whether you have adopted children, chosen adoption yourself, or maybe even know someone who made the brave choice to choose adoption, this conversation is for you.

This is the final episode in a series of episodes where I am addressing topics that have come up as I have discipled women through the years. Today I am talking to both those being discipled and those who are discipling. If you have been around for awhile you have heard me talk about our discipleship tree. In fact We talked in detail about the 3 levels of discipleship in episode 43- The PLAA Process, Finding a Paul, Barnabus, and Timothy. Every Jesus follower needs to have someone discipling or mentoring them. So how can you prepare yourself to be a fruitful disciple? I have 4 things that we must practice if we hope to get the most out of our time with our discipler and L.O.C.K. in the things that we learn as a disciple. This episode would be a great one to pass on to someone that you are discipling so they know what you are expecting of them as you begin meeting together. Or maybe you are looking for someone to disciple…today I am going to give you a list of what to look for in a woman that is ready for discipleship.

This episode is a continuation of topics that i have discussed with women I have discipled. Maybe the first time I came upon them, I wasn’t too confident and it would have been nice to have a couple idea of how to respond or where to go in God’s word for an example. We all come to this point in our life where we want to know what our purpose is in life. Sometimes we even figure out what our purpose is in life and then things change and we again enter a time of uncertainty! Today we are going to look at an example of someone in scripture that had a pretty interesting path towards his purpose, some tools for finding our purpose and how that search relates to your car’s GPS!

In a continuation of our Discipleship Deep Dive Series, this episode addresses the very beginning of the whole discipleship process. If you desire to disciple someone, but don't have someone in your life that needs discipleship, where do you start? How do you begin to build relationships that lead to discipleship? Anxiety is a growing issue in today’s culture and Holley was so kind to serve as our own teacher or counselor in this conversation. Holley and I chat about the foundations of anxiety, how we can support others working through anxiety, how anxiety can help you uncover your superpower, and why telling someone to pray more is not helpful advice. Caesar and his wife are lovers of discipleship and together they help others learn how to incorporate discipleship into their every day lives and today he’s going to be OUR coach! Caesar and I chat about what living a discipleship lifestyle looks like in each of our homes. Then we jump into how we can be intentional about discipling others by harnessing rhythms that already exist in our lives and how churches can use a top down model to begin building a culture of discipleship in their congregation. There is so much great advice, you won’t want to miss a moment of this.

You know how important I believe community is. Thats what discipleship is all about! My guests today have created an international, online community to encourage women in their walk with Christ called Sojo Academy. Jen Evangelista and Arabah Joy (or AJ) are two women with over half a century of ministry experience between them who have a passion for the Gospel and love to encourage women to get into God's Word! They do this through Bible Studies, creative worship, community, and teaching. In their community they help women engage in Spiritual Disciplines and so we are going to dive into a great discussion about them. What are Spiritual Disciplines, how do we incorporate them into our routines, how and where do we even get started, and why are they important.

Jodie and I chat about Lectio Divina, a form of scripture meditation. But we know that meditation, the word and the practice gets a lot of push back in the church. So we chat about what exactly Lectio Divina includes, the good and the bad versions of meditation, and how we can all begin practicing this discipline of stillness even if you have never done anything like this before.

A perfect Valentines Day Release. How can we love those that the world might see as unlovable?
I have been looking forward to this episode for almost 2 months now! My guest this week is Rachelle Starr. Rachelle is the founder of Scarlet Hope ministries and she just released her new book Outrageous Obedience in November. Rachelle founded Scarlet Hope to reach out to women in the adult entertainment industry. We talk about how God drew Rachelle to minister to these women, how her upbringing influenced her ministry decisions, how we can be a light in a dark world, and just when you thought we were just going to talk about Rachelle’s ministry, we chat about why and how you and I should respond to the call that God has placed in our lives. It is such a great conversation. I do want to put a warning that due to the nature of Rachelle’s ministry, we do talk about some topics that might be inappropriate for little ears.

Today I’m going to answer the #1 question I get asked when I speak. What is the difference between Mentorship and Discipleship? Are they the same thing? What about Coaching and Counseling? In todays episode, a part of our Discipleship Deep Dive Series, I talk about the difference between Coaching, Mentoring, and Discipling. While they are very similar, the differences come in who is involved, where the meeting happens, and what is discussed. Hopefully, at the end of this episode, all your questions will be answered.

This week I am excited to share with you another part of the Entrust Conference. I had the blessing of opening the conference. During the opening session I wanted to encourage all the ladies in attendance that we all have the ability to Disciple, no matter our background, years in the faith, or levels of training. I wanted the women to see the opportunity we as Christians to influence today’s culture, to understand what effective discipleship includes, and to let go of some of the lies that we have believed that keep us from discipling the next generation.

One of the most amazing moments during the Entrust Conference in September was the Generational Discipleship Panel. During this session I had the chance to interview Margi Galloway, Tracy Steel, and Jen Porras. 3 women who are all in different generations but who are a part of the same discipleship family tree. I had several people let me know that the panel was their favorite part of the conference. After the conference was over and I could step out of the conference organizing role, I listened back to the panel and WOW! In almost 130 episodes, no episode has effected me so deeply while I was editing than this episode today.
During the panel we spoke about how discipleship looked different in each of their lives, how to disciple individuals from a generation you don’t understand, and what happens when you fail. I know you will love this conversation as much as I did!

My guest today is Eric Nevins. After years of working in the financial industry, Eric launched his podcast, Halfway There, to tell the whole story about the spiritual journey. He quickly found the community podcasting is known for and started a group to bring Christian podcasters together. Since then, he’s worked with podcasters to launch and improve their podcast, most recently with Christian Podcasters Association and has created a platform where Podcasters can learn, be encouraged, and network.
Podcasts exploded in popularity in the last few years. But the truth is, it can be a difficult and often thankless venture so many people do not get farther than the first episode or the first season. This week, Eric and I chat about the challenges of podcasting, what it looks like to be a Christian podcaster, the importance of Mentorship in the podcasting world, and how we can support the podcasters in our lives and those we enjoy listening to.

This week I am spoke with Sharon Engram and Lori Rohlinger. Both women are widows who lost their husbands in very different seasons of life, and yet shared similar things. Sharon and Lori wanted to create a resource for widows by widows to help disciple women towards hope in a dark situation. On todays episode we discuss their book Surviving Widowhood, they describe their experience in the months and years following their husbands’ deaths, share encouragement and hope for those experiencing widowhood, and offer some wisdom for those of us that may be walking alongside a widow, how we can serve and encourage her.
I know that everything you will hear from Sharon and Lori is true, not only because of their heart to help women which I believe you will come to see, but also because as their shared their stories and things they experienced, they paralleled our families experience as we have walked alongside my Dad and the experiences of friends who are walking with their parents or friends who have lost a spouse. It might seem like its going to be a sad conversation, but you might be surprised how much HOPE these women have to share with us!

I am so excited to invite the 3 hosts of The Pastor’s Wives Tell All podcast. Stephanie Gilbert, Jenna Allen, and Jessica Taylor each have their own careers and gifting, but the one thing that brings them together is they are all Pastor’s wives. We chat about the unique challenges that all Pastor’s wives face, how and where pastor’s wives can find someone they can be fully honest with, and what we should…and shouldn’t expect from our pastor and his family. I think this episode will be an encouragement to all pastor’s wives and a bit of an education for the rest of us in the church.

I welcomed my dad, Pat Hail, Jr. back on this episode of the podcast!! You all loved our last episode about the book of Jonah. So I thought we would do that again and talk about another book. And since we are going to be talking about 2 Timothy at the Entrust Conference, I thought, why don’t we talk about that! In our usual serious…..or not so serious way….we chat about the history of 2 Timothy and how Timothy’s ministry location was a lot like Las Vegas, why a legacy of faith is so important, how we can stand firm in our faith when we have so many other opinions swirling around us, and how we can raise up the next generation of leaders in our church and society.

Today I am so excited to share with you what I believe are 4 characteristics of a Fruitful Disciple-Maker. Most people have a list in their heads of what it takes to disciple someone. Along with that come a list of necessary qualifications and that list can be QUITE long!
What if I told you the list isn’t long and the qualifications are probably a lot more reasonable than you believe! I had a list in my head when I first started discipling and that resulted in fear every time that I met with a woman for discipleship. I came to realize that the list of characteristics a woman needs to be a fruitful disciple maker is much simpler and more obtainable than I believed.
We’re going to go through the list and I think, just like me, you will leave with the belief that you truly are qualified to go out and follow God’s command to be a disciple maker!

She ended up in a mess of addiction, divorce, dysfunction, and heartache. She lost loved ones, and knew she couldn’t get her life back. She had to take a step in a new direction. It took time, love, and mentoring, but her life was changed. Jesus has redeemed her life and given her a purpose she never had before. Today she sits with people in crisis and serves them in the same way that she was served. She says “I get it because I’ve lived it, and I will stick with you!”
At the beginning of her ministry, Debbie brought her message and testimony to the church but was surprised at the response she got....or didn't get. It was only when she took her ministry to the streets, just as the Lord told her to, that she saw a God sized increase and impact. Debbie and I chat about her dramatic conversion, how we can sit with people even through the toughest moments in life, the change that discipleship can bring in both you and the person you disciple and the amazing ways Debbie has seen God work in the lives of women since starting BFF.

In addition to his weekly thoughts on local radio and his occasional services on BBC Radio, Rob serves as an itinerate pastor and as the church and media consultant for the Evangelical Alliance in Wales where he helps churches understand what it means to minister to their communities in the 21st century. Rob and I discuss the religious climate through out Wales and how this is reflected in the American culture. We talk about the missional mindset that churches should have and the need for them to step out of their buildings to reach their community whether that is through technology, Messy Church, or serving those in need. Finally, we talk about what it looks like when we say yes to what God asks of us even when his request seems too big for us to handle. Lainee Pegelow has worked with college students through Christian Challenge at Northern Arizona University for the last 26 years! She has incredible insight into the challenges students face as they transition from high school and adolescence to college and adulthood. What do students need to find success? How can parents help their student remain faithful to the God they grew up learning about? Can we ever fully arrive at perfection as a disciple? This episode will answer those questions for you and the students in your life.

John Correia is a speaker, firearms instructor, and served several years as my pastor. John and I talk about faith and how that has remained a constant as he has moved from the role of pastor and professor to firearms teachers and content creator. We discuss the expectations that were placed on him as a pastor and those put on him now that he is creating daily video content. Both sets of expectations, while different, can become overwhelming if we lose focus. John talks about how he keeps his focus on being a follower of The Way and through that he is able to build the bridges needed to speak truth into peoples lives, even people that have lives and religions that conflict with his own.

November is National Adoption Awareness Month. So of course I asked my friend Amber to come on and talk about her own adoption and her love of adoption. We discuss her adoption story, what it was like growing up in a family that did not have the same cultural, ethnic, or racial background as she did, and what her hopes are for adoption in the future.
How can you get involved in adoption? What if you don’t feel like adopting a child is something you are supposed to do...do you still need to be involved?? YES!! And Amber gives us some suggestions. vI just love her and her passion for the subject and I know you will too!!

Rob James is a pastor, writer, and radio presenter from Pembroke, Wales. Rob graces us with amazing stories of other faithful men and women he has met along the way and how they have impacted not just him, but also their community.

Heather Babb and I dive right in and talk about her pregnancy and how long her and her husband waited for this time. She gives us a window into how she knew God was saying wait and the emotions that came along with that. The person she has become in that time led her to her position as worship minister at her church. We discuss worship and its importance during the entire week. We also talk about why music is so captivating to the soul. We get a little goofy at the end with some silly stories, but the one thing that shines through is how genuine Heather's faith really is.

Lainee and I discuss her challenge to her students and local church. What amount of time can you give God to serve him and others? Can you give 1 hour? 1 day? 1 week? 1 month? Maybe even 1 year? She offers that same challenge to us: What is your “1”? Then we dive deep into the topic of Depression and Suicide. This is an important and relevant topic not just on college campuses but in culture as a whole. We discuss possible causes for depression and the importance of counseling. We also talk about how we should respond to a friend who is suffering through these thoughts. Lainee closes out our time sharing stories with us about her biggest life influences.
Warning: Due to our discussion of Depression this conversation may not be appropriate for young ears or those with sensitivities to this subject.

During that time, she has had the amazing opportunity to mentor hundreds of young women and help broaden her student's view of the world and understanding of scripture. We talk about the huge transition that student are making as they enter college and in what ways they seem unprepared. We also talk to parents and ministry leaders about how they can better prepare their kids to be ready for college life as a believer. I think her answer to "What do you wish students had a better handle on before coming to college?" will surprise you. Finally we will discuss depression and suicide on college campuses and positive steps to help fight these.

On the 6th episode of the podcast I had the opportunity to sit down with Kim Prine. Kim Prine is a wife, a mom, and a true servant in her local church. Kim and I have the pleasure of working together in several capacities in the women’s ministry at our church. We were able to talk about Kim's story and how she began to transform her life after becoming a Christian at the age of 25. "What part of my life didn't God change?" We also dive into what it meant to respect her husband, who was not a believer at the time, as she strengthened her faith and prayed for her husband to follow Christ. Now Kim and her husband together, along with their 2 boys, enjoy loving their neighbors and neighborhood kids with their home's open door policy.

This week I get to speak with Karen Harrison. Karen is a mom, wife, child life specialist, avid woodburner, and one of the founders of Forget Me Not Ministries. As a child life specialist Karen spends her days inside a hospital helping children and their families stay strong during some of the hardest moments of their lives. This draw to help others in times of need extends outside of work as she serves families through Forget Me Not Ministries. Forget Me Not is a ministry focused on helping those that have struggled with fertility issues or are grieving the loss of a baby born in any trimester. It's a heavy place to be, but Karen and those that serve with her help the whole family to grieve well and remember the child that has died by delivering free Forget Me Not boxes filled with items to help families begin to heal. Forget Me Not's annual signature event, Made Known, will be taking place Oct 19, 2019. Wives and husbands, separately or together, along with any of their community that wants to participate, can gather with other parents and have a moment to remember their children and share their story.

In this episode we mention several books, if you are interested in buying them you will find the links below.
This week I sat down with Sue Sunderland to talk about marriage and her ministry to young couples and families. Sue and her husband Dean have been serving married couples for 25 years. They sit down with couples and help them discuss areas of their marriages that are strong and those that need work. They have found several common areas that couples struggle with and Sue addresses some of those in this episode. These are not fix it quick tips. Marriage is a relationship that must be cared for and must be seen as a priority in your life. She addresses what to do if you feel your marriage is in crisis and how we as wives can be better praying for our husbands. She also gives us a few great tips on how we as women can love...and respect...our husbands.
The books we spoke about in todays episode are:
Love and Respect- Dr. Emerson Eggerichs
5 love languages- Gary Chapman
Sacred Marriage- Gary Thomas

Jennifer Deibel is a mom, teacher, blogger, and author. She lives and works in Phoenix, Arizona and writes on her blog over at www.thisgalsjourney.com along with guest writing for other blogs and online publications. We talk about her draw to the written word and her new book to be released in 2021! A large part of what Jen and I discuss is the huge changes that she and her husband, Seth, along with their 3 kids have experience in the last 6 years. Change can be hard for anyone, but as a couple they were able to help their kids thrive in the redefinition of their family's purpose. Listen for her wisdom on how she helped her kids, in the midst of chaos, to have an outward focus and a Jesus heart for the world.
