All Things Medical Assistant: Recent Episodes

Santino Telles

Medical assisting has become one of the most sought after and recruitable professions. In this podcast we share stories, interviews, cohosts and conversations about medical conditions, our own opinions and the life in medical assisting. In the early 90s when medical assisting first become available to medical practices, this was a very simple position entailed by answering phones, filing and minimal back office skills. Since then much has changed, the medical assistant has become the integral component of any practice. This admirable profession deserves its proper acknowledgment in the ranks.

Many of us feel stuck in our current workplace or career path. Some of us know we want to do it but don’t have the inner strength to start, or just don’t know where to start or just frightened to even begin the journey. If it hasn’t been for my education, I would not be where I am today. I’m lucky enough that I’ve had the opportunity afforded to me, and recently I’ve had to work harder for it. But this can be done and obtained. You’ve got a real look within yourself and understand who you are and what you really want out of life, and just start the journey.

Here I continue my rant about the ignorance and narcissism that administration and upper management can have. Lower the words that purposely go out there and put ourselves in harms way for the better benefit of the institution or the entity deserve the best. We deserve the appropriate compensation and the most sincerest acknowledgment. Apparently the University of Washington Medical Central hwllo Work for doesn’t feel the same. Are you facing that issue?

It is unfortunate that an employee who believes in their employer that they will provide the best nudges benefits but in safety and health, turns on them. Everybody in the healthcare field, no matter your position, deserves to have the best deserves to be given what you deserve. Here I talk about how my employer the University of Washington is lacking in there responsibilities. Thank God for the union

This pandemic has caused not only technology to see it’s worth, but it’s also enforced and brought on change. Change is a good thing, but sometimes change can directly affect the lives of those that work with the public and healthcare. It’s unfortunate that higher management can make the decisions for everybody else affecting their lives on a bigger scale than their own. Here I talk about how my life as a medical assistant is to continue to change post pandemic and how changes being made by administration is about to adversely affect my life.

In this episode I share my experience working with newly graduated registered nurses. Nursing is a career that not many can endure much less take on the curriculum. The nurse has always been the corner stone and backbone of medicine. Unfortunately the new grads are a bit, unsavory, much to learn. The seasoned RN I feel have learned the humbling life lessons that have made them a better person. Disclaimer, not all new grads are annoying. But with any new graduate there is a sense of pride in what one has achieved. I figure we have to navigate life and learn from it’s experiences that make us better people. Now, I’ve worked with some really great nurses though they tend to be the more experienced ones. Either way, my hats off and respects to those that take on this career and make it work.

In this episode I touch on the topic of dedication. Dedication means different things for each of us. There are those of us that think we’re dedicated when we really aren’t at all, and there’s those of us that are considered stewards of dedication. Dedication takes our ability to be accountable for our skills and work ethic. Dedication is what gets us up in the morning and through the day. Dedication allows us to give the best in patient care.
