Brookside Church is a community of Jesus followers who want nothing more than to share the love of Christ with our community, our state, and the world! We want not only to introduce people to Jesus, but to equip and empower them to grow in their faith and share His love with everyone. Brookside Church exists to make disciples who make disciples.
In today’s message, Pastor Ryan Bash focused on Luke 10:38-42, the story of Mary and Martha. Martha was busy preparing and serving, while Mary sat at Jesus' feet, listening to Him. Frustrated, Martha asked Jesus to tell Mary to help, but Jesus gently corrected her, saying Mary had chosen what was better. The message wasn’t that serving is bad, but that being in Jesus' presence is the most important thing. Pastor Ryan emphasized the need to balance serving with truly spending time with Jesus, making sure we don’t let busyness distract us from what matters most.
In this sermon, Pastor Ryan explores the disconnect between our memories and reality—how something once cherished, like snow days, can lose its magic over time. As kids, snow days were filled with excitement and adventure, but as adults, they often bring frustration and inconvenience. This contrast leads us to consider how people, too, can have a reputation that doesn’t match reality. Revelation 3:1-6 addresses the church in Sardis, a city once great but now spiritually lifeless. Jesus calls them to wake up, repent, and strengthen what remains. Just as we might not realize when we’ve drifted spiritually, Sardis had a name for being alive, but in truth, they were dead. This message challenges us to examine our own faith—are we truly alive in Christ, or just holding onto a reputation?

Leadership isn't necessarily a trait you're born with. For many of us, it's a calling and we must learn to develop the skill. Using the story of Deborah found in Judges chapters 4 & 5, Pastor Ryan shows us how we can develop godly leadership.

Courage is the opposite of fear. It means to "be of good cheer" or "boldness" and "confidence." We're human. We have our faults. We struggle with our doubts. Using the story of Noah from the Book of Genesis, Pastor Ryan shows us how and why we should live with a confident faith — even in the midst of life's storms.
When you're faced with a problem, big or small. What do you do? The problem you see could be a symptom of a greater issue. You go to the root cause and address that first. In Corinth, Paul recognized that none of their issues were getting solved, unless they moved forward unified, as One. What bonds us is more important than what divides us.
Did you ever build a massive snow fort as a kid? Something that even Superman or Elsa could be proud of?
Sometimes we still do that as adults. We build these walls around us to protect us from pain. Sometimes that wall looks like us ignoring something. Other times we hide something. Or maybe we hold a grudge against someone. None of this ultimately leads to healing though. Like the snow fort, your fortress slowly fades away. When that fortress fails, what do you do?
Has there been a time in your life where you can relate to Losing your Freedom? Maybe you've been abused or unjustly accused, your emotional health constricted because it was taken from you in some way. We continue to look at Joseph and his story how he lost his freedom, but what is it that he chose to do with that?
We've been facing the battle of Temptation most of our lives. We have to make a choice, just like Eve did in the garden. It can come in many different forms. We were punished not for the temptation, but what we did with that temptation. What do you do with the temptations in our life?
We come across many instances or circumstances in our lives that are not as we have planned. We look at the story of Joseph and his trials. Has some in your life rejected you? Did God bring someone else along to invest and connect with you? Even in the midst of tragedy, God is still working.
When we share the Good News, we assume that they need to have the same experience that we did. We have little patience for people who are hesitant, or take a step back. We try and control everything about the process. What we need to really is people and faith are messy. Then we shut down, get quiet and pass the buck to someone else because we don't have success. What could happen if we could decide to Let Go of our need to control the process.
There's times in our lives where we get pumped up and excited for something like "Breakfast Guy". Will we maintain our excitement about sharing the Gospel when it costs us something?
Our lives are full of moments. Moments that will remain memories that could last a lifetime. Sometimes there will be moments with the spotlight is on you. How will you Seize The Moment? What will you say? What will people remember.
How many of us fall into the category of one of those people who can't keep their mouth shut? Most times, we believe it's best to not say anything, but the argument could be made that there are times we MUST speak. We look at Peter's story and ask how does he speak the Good News to the people. He speaks of Hope.
Have you ever seen a man.... driving next to you.....naked......? Some things you just can't unsee. Imagine being Mary and not being able to see Jesus. Often times today, we don't look past what's right in front of us. We're consumed with other things, that aren't the Risen King. Do you see Him?
Do you view people as sinners? Or do you see people the way God sees you; as sons and daughters of the Lord. Who are the people in your life that you've written off? Do you think God has done the same? Jesus was a friend of sinners. Are you?
We're surrounded by people in our everyday lives. Some of them very influential in our lives and we may even look up to them as counselors and leaders. How well you do you feel like you know them? Do you know the Whole Person? Or just a portion of them?
Does everyone matter to you? Do your actions support your answer? Do you see the outcast, the Insignificant, the unimportant...to you? Jesus gave us a model and showed us that He noticed those people. Will you open your eyes like Jesus did?
Is there anyone is your life that when you think of praying for someone, you feel like they're too far gone? For some, it's those with a health related diagnosis or someone who keeps making the same mistakes repeatedly. Sometimes you get to a point where we stop investing in people. Would Jesus do that? Remember the God we serve. Today we look at two stories of individuals in the Bible, whose story seems Hopeless. Will the people around you, see you like the two individuals in the stories saw Jesus?
We make excuses and try so many things when someones calls or comes up to you when it's an inconvenience for us. We'll fake phone calls, ignore text messages and outright hide from folks. An inconvenient moment for you, might be everything to the other person. Do you think Jesus would've made time for them? If you're a true follower of Jesus, what do you think Jesus would want you to do?
What would you do if you were invisible? Would you prank people? Spy on someone? Help someone, so they don't know who it is? At the end of the day, there's a laundry list of things we'd like to do. But for many, they feel this way everyday. We WANT to be visible. We want to be heard. Often times, invisibility means isolation and loneliness - an Outcast. Imagine if no one had to feel that way again. Jesus KNOWS your name. Knows who you are down to your core. So, is there anyone in your life that needs to be seen like Jesus see's you?
When we're children, the relationship with our parents is one sided. As we get older, that relationship changes and your parents become their own people. One could describe the same progression with God. He is not a genie here to grant our every wish, although we tend to treat him like that. He is our Father! Do you listen when He speaks? Or only when it's something you want to hear?
Who is this God that you pray to in your time of need? In a general sense, we think that authority figures are out to get us. Why would we think God is any different? From the outside, it would be easy to assume God is out to get us without reading scripture. What is God's nature and character?
We’ve been walking through the story of Abraham. First, we learned he had to Let Go and have faith, give up his power and possessions in life, he had to Wait and finally he learns that he must Surrender.
What is the one word in the English language that we hate to hear - "Wait". Whether it's waiting in a line or waiting to eat dessert until after dinner. Or perhaps it's waiting to speak until you've thought your words through. Not waiting, when God tells us to Wait, it comes with a price, We miss out on God's best and His plan for us.
We as believers sometimes think that once as we accept Christ as our Savior, we think our life just turns into "Do's and Don'ts". Or we think we need to amass knowledge about the Bible and we miss the mark that God has set out for us. Who are the person that you are becoming? Are you a Giving person?
Despite your age, your knowledge or your experience we always have a lot to learn. When it comes to our life of faith, we assume that we have it mastered. You've been following Jesus for 30 year, were raised in the church and know prominent members of the church. When we listen to sermons, we always think of someone else it applies. It never occurs to us that it might apply to us. We have to recognize, that when we adopt that sort of attitude, our faith it dead. Is there something you still have yet to learn?
With New Year's approaching, we all come ups with resolutions for the New Year. Some can be lofty and we'll fall short on some, but we still "Hope for the best". Do we approach our spiritual life and our walk with God like that too? What we if we buckled down and walked by faith, instead of just hoping for the best.

So many times we see people who have climbed the mountain, who seem to have it all, only to end things far too soon. It can make us question God and why wonder why these things happen.

Too many of us stop in our spiritual journey too early. We come to know Christ and commit to him, but for so many the journey stops there. We look at Peter's journey to see how the Holy Spirit Transformed him.
It is not good to be alone. God said that in Genesis 2. God made us to be in community. So much of this life should not be done alone. God has given us the tools to share the gospel, but we must work together. There’s going to come a moment when you’re in need.
Is there a group of people or a single person who you strive to be like? Have you ever looked at Jesus that way? As we continue our series, we’ve looked at awakening, but have you committed to following Jesus?
Have you ever been approached with an opportunity and you want to reap the benefits without the work and sacrifice? Do we approach Christianity in the same sense? When we’re convicted by God or faces with change, are we still willing to take the opportunity?
When you Awaken to a new reality, it often results in a major change. This can be a good thing!! When disciples make disciples that a major life event! Do we know what that looks like? If we don’t, then are we really doing it?
Do you ever find yourself longing for Simplicity in your life? It seems like there’s always something happening at work or at home to worry about. Life is so complicated sometimes, but is rushing around trying to get everything done the answer? What if we approached this differently?
We continue with our story of the Queen of Persia in the final message of the series. What’s the proper way to show gratitude? How do you show gratitude for God’s grace? How has he rescued you?

The King spent 6 MONTHS showing off the kingdom. Can you imagine? Part of the event was showing off his wife. However, The Non Compliant Queen says no. Why does this scene matter? And why did she say no?
Have you heard the old saying that 20% of the people do 80% of the work? God has called us to SERVE in the church, not just simply come be fed. Idleness is the devils playground. Jesus worked during his time on earth and gave, generously. Are you striving to do the same?
Today, we look at the Truth’s of Prayer. Prayer is an opportunity to partner with God. It’s a critical partner for strength and focus on following Christ. So in regards to prayer, where do you go from here?
Growing up we try many different things. We try sports, music, different foods and getting good grades. However, as we grow, none of that matters. What matters is your Perseverance in your and journey to find the Truth, to find Jesus Christ. Hold fast to the Truth.
Life can get difficult when you can’t tell the difference between a truth and a lie. There’s some things like buying a bad car, or purchasing a bad sandwich, but some situations can lead to eternal suffering if we can’t distinguish between the lies and the Truth.
Are you longing today for what’s true? Do you just want someone to be honest? It’s hard to find in this political climate and age of social media. However, The Christians received just that in Paul’s second letter. He starts by delivering to them the truth about their pain.
Have you ever wondered what kind of impact your having on others? You’re trying to be a positive influence, help others and volunteer, but is all this effort and energy really making a difference? We look in the final chapter of Haggai to see how he addressed this feeling.
Sometimes in life we have big plans. We’re going to be a star, have a wonderful family life or be a hero. But we keep getting tripped up on The Basics. Today we look at the third prophecy from Haggai; getting back to the basics.

We try to sugar coat things and sound mature when we talk to God, but he already knows the desire of your heart. We don’t always get what we want from prayer, but did you get closer to God?

Tree's represent many things in life. We often see different depictions of tree's representing different things as well.
One thing tree's represent is assurance. There's two paths you can: one of righteousness or one of wickedness. Want to be blessed? Walk in Righteousness.
Where are your allegiances? Are they with video games, slime, art, Christmas lights, or LeBron James? Many times we find delight in our Allegiances. Came the same be said about the Bible for you?
Have you ever tried to change how you are to impress someone else? If you have to do that, are you surrounding yourself with the right people? if you want to be Blessed, surround yourself with Blessed Associates.
What's The Secret to finding Joy? Is there a secret sauce of things you have to do to have Joy in your life? Live giving Joy starts with being content with what you have and where you are now.
There's never Peace without Joy. Why is that so few experience true Peace? It was given to us when Jesus came.
Is your home in Heaven? Or is it here on earth? Earth is only a temporary home, but do we treat it like that?
Today we celebrated Brookside's 45th Anniversary. What kind of impact can we have going forward? We can do everything right, but are we doing it the right way? Is our attitude and approach the way God would want it?
Do we ever celebrate in other's victories? Life isn't a competition. When we realize that we haven't seen it all or done it all we will find true Joy in God's plan for us.
Do you feel like your journey as a Christian is like a workout? Big promises, but the requirements are overwhelming? We continue to look at Paul's message in Philippians and he finishes with "do all things without grumbling or arguing." Wow, that's hard?!?! But, what if we did? We could find true and everlasting JOY!
At what cost is the thrill of victory worth? We love to be victories, or right, but is there a line that's too far? JOY isn't found in winning, it's found in HUMILITY and putting others first.
Paul experienced a lot of turmoil in his life, but he still had joy. He write about Joy in Philippians. All of his Joy was in the Lord and he still proclaimed His name even when things weren't going his way. In everything give thanks to the Lord, even despite your circumstances because every problem has a benefit.
There's no doubt there is a lack of Joy in our world today. Driving down the road or scrolling through Facebook, we as society are lacking Joy.
If Paul, sitting in prison, can speak of Joy in his writings, why can't we? Regardless of our circumstances, can we still have Joy in this world? Where is this Joy found?

When you read about the church in the bible, it is an interconnected body. All parts functioning as one. If a part is not functioning properly, then the body is sick. Each of us has a specific purpose. From before you were born He was Shaping you. What can life or the church be like if we live like we were designed for something?
We’ll do anything to find rest and comfort. We’ll try so many different things to fix our problems. But Jesus says, “come to me”. You will find rest in Jesus. There will be comfort in his presents. Nothing is too big to handle for our Lord.
Make sure we are seeking the right kind of rest. Are we seeking physical rest or eternal rest with our savior? When something changes in us and we seek the Father, rest will come.
Are you tired and feel like you can't get out of a rut? Stand at the crossroads and look. Ask for the ancient paths and search for The Good Way. It's hard to fully surrender to God when your surrounded by idols at home. The Good Way isn't quick or easy, but God won't let anything overcome you. Walk in The Good Way and all things are possible.
Heres that we think of tend to tackle all their problems alone. As a society, there is a big attitude of "I can do it myself". BUT, wouldn't life be so much easier as a team and with other people to help? Humble yourself and follow the ancient path of Solomon. Seek wisdom from people who've gone before you.
Today we examine the act of submission to God. Do you have entanglements or trials in your life holding you back? Get rid of them! Are you willing to strip yourself from the entanglements of sin to follow Jesus?

The devil is constantly attacking us trying to veer us off course. The biggest temptation we'll face is that we can get through this life on our own. Nothing will sustain us except obedience to Him.
In the final message of the series we look at last part of Paul's writings in 1 Corinthians. Love is the MOST important thing because everything in this life will disappear. When we realize how foolish things are in this life, our vision will become clear and LOVE will remain.
Have you ever stopped to think about the implications of the word "Always". God uses it frequently when discussing Love. It always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres. When love becomes a part of our identity love never fails.
What causes you to rejoice? Would it be hitting a buzzard beater at the end of a basketball game? We should rejoice in God's truths. Love is essential for finding joy because joy comes from the Truth. Love your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.
Today we looked at what love IS NOT. Love does not envy, boast, have pride, is self seeking or dishonor others. Love puts others and their needs first. If this desire is in your heart, God will provide for you.
So think back to your daily interactions... Are you living what love should be? Or shouldn't be?
What does love look like in your life. Sometimes it sounds like we’re just adding adjectives to what love does. But what we’re saying is the verb of what love does. Love looks like mercy. Love patiently endures. It’s not easily angered. Love looks like grace and mercy. Love shows kindness and keeps not record of wrongs. LOVE is starting New Each Day.
The start of this 6 week serious begins in 1 Corinthians looking at the versus regarding Love. You can have impressive gifts, incredible intelligence and unwavering faith, but without Love all this is worth nothing. Without Love you gain nothing. Love is the most important thing and God Is Love.
Christmas is proof that God's Word never fails. Everything about the arrival of Baby Jesus was different than what the world thought it should be. He was born in a stable, in a manger, to the virgin Mary. There was no big announcement. He came into this world, just how God had Promised.

If we aren't serving our children and spouses as God intended then we aren't really serving at all. Our Home is the training ground for serving in our communities.

Responding to other's needs is personal. Look for the potential in broken people because responding to their needs is responding to Jesus.
