Amplify Korea shares news on upcoming live shows and new music from the independent scene in Korea. Expect a mixture of indie, punk, hip hop, post-rock, and more. Produced for Angle Magazine, and hosted by Philip Brett.
Episode Notes Episode 110 is the final episode of Amplify Korea hosted by myself, Philip Brett. Due to time commitments at work, it's the end of a run of 4 years of shows. Given this is episode 110 you can probably tell it's not been the most consistent of runs over those 4 years, with a number of changes since it started out as the Angle Magazine Podcast, changing to AMP, and finally settling on Amplify Korea. It's not all sad news though, with the awesome Michael Keogh taking over hosting duties, and bringing new energy and fresh ideas to the podcast starting from the next episode.

Both 88 and Tengger feature on new compilation albums, while UZA, Cat Psalm, and Universe Mongae have a new collaboration out.

Episode Notes Episode 101 is full of new music from the last month, including Say Sue Me's contribution to the Busan Biennale, a new digital single from Roots Redeem, and more music from Daegu, Busan, and Seoul. With Covid-19 numbers going down, but still not clear, I'm still not comfortable sharing event information just yet. On the other hand, there's been so much new music to try and keep on top of, it's a welcome break to stay home and listen. I also don't have much choice, as this episode was recorded from quarantine after returning to Korea last week. I'm also dealing with an ear infection, so apologies if there are any sound issues in this weeks show that I didn't catch.

There are also 2 demos from bands in Busan and Daegu. Finally, there’s information on a great Tumblbug project by Big Baby Driver that needs your support. Check the notes below for the link, and a whole host of Bandcamp pages to add to your wishlist. With the current Covid-19 situation in Korea, most shows are cancelled. While there are still some going ahead at the time of recording, the numbers are getting quite scary, and the last thing the scene needs is a new cluster connected to a music show.

There are previews of new albums by Lubless, Dragonfly Trio, and Cifika, along with new singles by Kim Sawol, Alary Kansion, Rum Kicks, and Yeseo. There is still a backlog of new music that I’m trying to squeeze in to the show each week, this is the first time I’ve picked 12 tracks for the show. Given the current situation with Covid-19 outbreaks around the country, be sure to double check shows are still going ahead before you go out. If you do go to a show, don’t forget your mask.

Episode Notes Recently I posted a question on Instagram stories asking if followers wanted the podcast to cover all of Korea, or to keep the focus on the scenes outside of Seoul. The response was overwhelmingly in favor of covering all of the country.
