Ghizal Hasan
Ghizal Hasan is a play-by-play broadcaster, based in Los Angeles, CA. For the past decade, he's primarily covered the Big West Conference, while handling freelance assignments for the WCC, Mountain West and Pac-12.
Hasan has an extensive background in both television and radio, having broadcast for both Fox Sports and ESPN. He's covered NCAA Division 1 Basketball, Baseball, Volleyball, Soccer and Gymnastics, as well as both Junior College and CIF events.
Ghizal is a graduate of both UC Irvine & UCLA, and was born and raised in Northern New Jersey, where he grew up listening to WFAN, and rooting for the Nets, Devils, Yankees and Jets.

In light of UC San Diego's recent defection, we'll discuss what's next for the Big West, going forward. We congratulate Dan on beginning his sixth season at the helm of the Big West Conference, while trying to read the tea leaves, with regard to conference re-alignment.While the Big West will lose UC San Diego to the WCC in 2027-28, three new institutions will join the league in 2026-27 (Utah Valley, California Baptist and Sacramento State) and we discuss Dan's role on various NCAA committees, as well as the protocol for when a conference pursues a new member.

Hall of Famer James Lofton stopped by during halftime of Saturday's Big West Basketball game between CSUN & UC San Diego, at LionTree Arena, in La Jolla. Lofton is now an analyst on NFL broadcasts for CBS, and has been a San Diego resident since 2002. Over a sixteen-year NFL career, Lofton played for five NFL franchises, most prominently the Packers (1978-1986) Raiders (1987-1988) and the Buffalo Bills (1989-1992). He'd split the 1993 campaign between the Eagles and the Rams. An eight-time Pro Bowler, and four-time All-Pro, Lofton was inducted into Canton in 2003.

Former Fresno State and Colorado State Head Coach Boyd Grant passed away today, on the occasion of his 87th Birthday. Grant held the top spot at Fresno State from 1977-1986, where he took the Bulldogs to three NCAA Tournaments (1981, 1982, 1984) and also won the 1983 NIT Title. He left coaching after the 1986 season, citing burnout, but later turned up at his alma mater, Colorado State, where he lasted four seasons (1987-1991) taking the Rams to the NCAAs in 1989 and 1990.
Last week, I had the chance to talk with Stan Morrison, who coached against Grant, when he has at Pacific, from 1972-1979, and Stan had nothing but fond memories of the grinder of the coach, nicknamed “Tiny.” Pacific and Fresno State clashed while both were members of the PCAA, two partners in an intense Central Valley rivalry.
Morrison came from the Pac-10 line of Pete Newell at Cal (who was his college coach) and Bob Boyd at USC, under whom Stan served as an assistant coach. Grant was an alum of Colorado State, and apprenticed under Joe B. Hall at Kentucky from 1972-1974, before taking the head coaching job at College of Southern Idaho, where he won an NJCAA Championship in 1976.

CSUN Broadcaster Alan Zinsmeister and NFL Hall of Famer James Lofton join me to discuss the legacy of Brad Pye, Jr. who passed away on July 5th of 2020.
Pye, Jr. was a pioneer for African-American broadcasters in the City of Angels, setting the stage for the likes of Bryant Gumbel and Jim Hill. Pye's thirty year career included time at the LA Sentinel, as well as at prominent radio stations, like KDAY, KACE and KJLH. He also spent two decades working for the City of Los Angeles.
