Basically, it describes a person who serves and ministers in a wide variety of common labors and in the most practical ways, both physically and spiritually. It is vital we balance both worship and work. In Luke 10:38-42, we see the story of Martha and Mary and how attitudes can arise if we are not properly balanced. Today, Bishop Rodgers teaches from Romans 12:6 on "Speaking God" (gift of prophecy). Every believer has gifts but we must not confuse the gift with the office. There are seven grace gifts: serving, teaching, encouraging, giving, leadership, showing mercy and prophecy. Prophesying is "communicating God's message to strengthen, encourage, and comfort. The prophet explains the Word of God both: the living Word and the written Word. The prophet is not always predicting the future, but often effectively communicating God's message. The prophet is the "declarer of God's will and purpose." The prophet must believe what he/she is saying and must believe in the One who sent them. If you speak what you don't believe, it is lying. The Word of God should bring freedom, not bondage. You are a gift to the body, so how are you working the "gift" God gave you?

Genuine faith differs from conceptual belief and is always accompanied by action. So, the functionality of your faith (doing) determines the effectiveness of your service. All Christians are members of an orchestra, but everyone is not a soloist. Each member functions to serve the body, not the body serving the members. Many of us find problems living the Christian life when we are not fully committed and only try to live half of it. We must either be hot or cold for Christ, not lukewarm.

Our bodies are the temple of God and we are to carry out a specific function, which is our reasonable service, in the body of Christ. A believer's consecration to God and one's transformed lifestyle is demonstrated in exercising our spiritual gifts in the church. The gifts we (believers) have is because of the God's grace. God has given each believer faith to serve Him. This means we are to serve in the function which we were empowered to do. Believers are "obligated" to serve for the benefit of the other members and the body as a whole. This begins with us asking two questions: (1) Who am I (in Christ)? and (2) What am I doing? We have to be honest with ourselves. If we lie to ourselves, we will never be delivered and do what God has called us to do. Today, Bishop Rodgers continues the series "The Night Before Christmas: Christmas Day" from Luke 2:1-7. Joseph and Mary were poor and un-educated, but they understood who they were and who God was. The King does not come to the proud and powerful, but to the poor and powerless. The couple was forced to journey to Bethlehem to pay taxes. The journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem was 80 miles. Though there was no room for Christ in the hearts of man, there was room for Christ on the cross. Christ would rule the world and judge all people according to their decision about Him. It was a dawn of a new day because of the tender mercies of God. There are 5 points we need to understand about services: (1) Purpose of redemption is for service; (2) Nature of service is in holiness and righteousness; (3) Freedom to service; (4) Serve without fear; and (5) Service for the duration of our life. This week, Bishop Rodgers teaches from 1 John 3:9-14 on “The Church Family Feud”. When we accept Christ as our Lord and Savior, we are given a new position and are “born again” into the family of God. We are set apart for God’s own purpose to live for His glory. This means a new believer undergoes the following: justification - a new standing before God; sanctification – being set apart to God; and regeneration – a new nature, God’s nature. The church family feud occurs when we refuse to obey God and are “carried away” or “enticed” by our old desires and fleshly appetites. This clashes with others who are totally submitted to God and His desires for our life. Unfortunately, in the Body of Christ, there are Cains and Abels. This means there are individuals who worship God outwardly, but not inwardly. Also, there are Abels who inwardly belong to God’s family and outwardly practice love and truth. Today, Bishop Rodgers teaches from Matthew 6:14-15 on "Forgive to be Forgiven." The Lord's Prayer" offers six petitions: (1) God's name would be hallowed; (2) Pray and work for the advancement of God's kingdom on earth; (3) God's will on earth; (4) Disciple's daily bread; (5) Prayer for restoration of personal fellowship with God; and (6) Lead us not into temptation or testing. There is an order of the petitions in the Lord's Prayer. The first three focus on God and His glory and the last three focus on the believer's needs. It is important to remember we, as believers, must forgive others if we want the Lord to forgive us. Jesus showed us how ministry is to be perpetuated through John the Baptist, Jesus, then the disciples and finally us-the church. Jesus had a threefold work: teaching, preaching and healing. He balanced ministry by expressing the compassionate love for the multitudes. We as the body of Christ are to do the same. We are to hold tight to our confession of Jesus, because He is capable of unparalleled understanding and sympathy. The word "sympathy" is defined as "the perception, understanding, and reaction to the distress or need of another." The word "empathy" is defined as a "desire to help," but the word "compassion" means "an emotion we feel when others are in need, which motivates us to help." Compassionate people seek to exhibit unconditional love around them and are eager to find opportunities to alleviate the distress or sadness of others. As the body of Christ, we must become Christ-like, meaning Christ was occasion moved to literal tears over the plight of sinners, we should do likewise. When we realize how we were when we first came to Christ, then we can truly witness to others and share our testimony. Christ did not call us to come to a building and just sit. He didn't call us to be judgemental, mean, or unforgiving to those who are just coming into the faith. We all have a part to play in growing the body of Christ. This means being a living testimony to those who say "church sucks" and demonstrating love. When we "reverse church", in our circle of influence, then we are fulfilling the "Great Commission". Today, Bishop Rodgers continues to teach from Acts 10:25-44 on "Changed by the Word's Witness." It was an old custom that strict Jews would have no contact with a Gentile or a Jew who did not observe the Law. Peter was trained in this custom. God had to reveal to Peter in a vision that you can't call someone unclean who God has cleansed. When Peter was asked by Cornelius's men to come with them to Cornelius home, Peter went. Cornelius demonstrated an eagerness to know and obey God. Upon their meeting, Peter removes from Cornelius's mind and heart the difference between Jew and Gentile. This is the starting point for any who would take the Gospel. This means God accepts everyone but on His terms. God does not discriminate on the basis of race or ethnic background, but on whose behavior is acceptable and whose attitude is not. Those who reverence God and practice what is right in His eyes are acceptable to Him. We pray as you listen to this powerful message, you will examine your own life. Are you living up to your confession of Christ being the head of your life? Does your lifestyle and speech support your confession? If not, no worries, just repent of your sins and as the Lord to order your steps. Then, start reading the Word on a regular basis and as the Lord to show you the areas which need to be fixed. This week, Bishop continues to teach from the Book Acts 10:9-23 on "Breaking Historical Barriers". The disciples of Jesus had been educated from their childhood on having intense attitudes toward those not of a Jewish background. Also, they Jesus teach on saving the lost sheep of the House of Israel. So, how was God going to overcome and break down the walls and barriers of prejudice that had been built up through the centuries of history. God broke through the prejudicial environment and customs using Peter. Peter was in a trance and he saw a vision. Even in the vision, Peter doubted what God had said and three times God corrected Peter's resistance. Doubting God is the rebellion of Eden. When God says something, our response should be "Yes Lord!" Peter stands as a reminder to us to rely on the stabilizing and strengthening power of the Holy Spirit. Are you being Spirit-led by God? Once Peter as restored, he was in a place which Christ would use him for His glory. We think too much on what we can do and too little of what Christ can do through us. Today, Bishop teaches from Acts 9:26-29 on the important role Barnabas played in the acceptance of Saul to the church. Barnabas' nickname was the "Son of Encouragement." First, he sold some land and donated to the church for the benefit of the Christian community. Also, Barnabas became Saul's sponsor. This meant he was the bridge between Saul and the Apostles. New Christians, especially those with tarnished reputations, need sponsors. Barnabas was an interceder, a reconciler, and an enabler. He was able to forgive and put aside Saul's past. Barnabas was able to trust Saul despite his past sins and dangers. As you listen to this message, who are you encouraging? Whose sponsor are you? As new believers enter the church and you know of their reputation, will you forgive and accept them? If we want to see the church grow, we as believers must learn to love and treat others with respect. We all want to see the church grow, but it starts with us. Have a safe and blessed week.

Saul was blind and Ananias was given a directive to go to Saul and lay hands on him. Ananias knew of Saul's reputation and was reluctant to obey. When the situation looks like our obedience could result in trouble, this is when we need to trust and obey. Obedience or learning to obey, is the supreme trait and evidence of the true believer. Saul believed, repented, and confessed Christ as Lord, but this did not complete his conversion. Today, Bishop Rodgers teaches from Acts 9:3-6 on "Overcoming Parallel Blindness." Saul was committed to what he believed and was zealous in his belief. Saul's belief was flawed and Christ intervened. Saul was spiritually blind and did not understand the Old Testament really taught about Jesus, the Messiah. Many times, we as believers depend on our own righteousness and not the righteousness of God. Saul had a spiritual and natural encounter with Christ, but that did not equate to him being saved. When Saul fell to the ground, his unbelief and ignorance still remained. The conviction that Jesus was the One who he persecuted, brought him to know Jesus on a personal level and repent. Saul had to depend on others to get him to where God wanted him to be. This means we can't get saved by ourselves. We need others, who God has ordained to direct us in the things of God. Bishop Rodgers continues in the Book of Acts in Chapter 8:26-40 about Philip's obedience. Philip was installed as a Deacon and he was full of the Holy Spirit. Because he was touch with the Holy Spirit, he was open to the Spirit's direction. This sensitivity to divine guidance, led him to becoming the "touch of God" to others. First, the Holy Spirit directed him through persecution to leave his ministry in Jerusalem and go to Samaria. Then, God led Philip to an Ethiopian, who was a eunuch and of a different race. Philip, without one single question being asked, got up and went. Philip obeyed and God handled the details. Today, Bishop teaches from Acts 8:9-24 on Simon the Sorcerer. Bishop defines sorcery, superstition and spiritual. Simon heard the Gospel, saw the miracles, professed Christ as his Savior and was even baptized, but his heart was not changed. Simon was a great influencer in his own way, but when he witnessed the power of the Holy Spirit, he desired the gift to further his own ambition. Simon was impressed with the visible effects of the laying on of hands, but not the supernatural to change one's heart. When Peter rebuked Simon, Simon wanted Peter to pray away the consequences of his sin. Simon was bound by years of deceiving people. When we are faced with a rebuke, do we react like Simon and fear the consequences or are we sincerely sorry for hurting the heart of God? Stephen's indictment against the religious leaders literally cut through their hearts and made them fill up with wrath. They were seething with anger against the preacher of repentance. They wanted to stop the voice of God speaking through Stephen. While they were angry, Stephen stayed focused on Christ. God gave Stephen a vision into heaven, enabling him to see Christ standing on the right hand of God. This symbolized Christ overlooking the scene and caring for His dear follower and the joyful reception of His faithful servant. Today, Bishop Rodgers teaches from Acts 7:51-53 on the dangers of holy consecration without spiritual conversion. Stephen was a spirit-filled man but was not limited to serving tables. He won the lost and performed miracles. The way the Jewish leaders treated Stephen was similar to how they treated Jesus. Even Stephen's face showed the glory of God, which revealed he was a servant of God. Stephen accused his hearers of being a product of their parentage "stiff-neck, meaning unbending stubbornness in injustice and unholy causes. The term "uncircumcised heart" is religious activities with no corresponding internal spiritual reality. This can be boasting of church attendance, baptism or large ministries, but their hearts have not been touched, changed or converted by God. Resisting the Holy Spirit is disobedience and leads to rebellion against God. We pray as you listen to this powerful message, they Holy Spirit will convict you of any areas in your heart where you have not allow the Lord to have His way. The word common means “koina” which comes from the word “koinonia” meaning fellowship. The people having everything in common was not socialism or communism, because it was voluntary. The early church had an intense sense of responsibility for each other, which led to them having a real desire to share all they had. This experiment worked for a while, until sin entered. The story of Ananias and Sapphira shows us that we can’t serve beyond our character. We can be a christian but not a person of character. Unction and Pentecostal power is connected to service, giving us spiritual discernment & effectiveness in the utterance of Truth. The response was witnessing. The believers were praising God and not preaching the gospel. The sound of the wind drew the people to the temple, but it was the praise by the believers that really captured their attention. The Holy Spirit brings new life to those who believe in Jesus Christ and that life comes with continuing power. This requires us to be empty, so we can be filled by the Holy Spirit. The key to the Spirit-filled Christian life in cultivating an attitude of perpetual emptiness which brings with it a perpetual fullness.

This week, Bishop teaches from Acts 1:4-8 on the Holy Spirit. In this passage of Scripture, the disciples were assembled together in Jerusalem. Jesus commanded them not to leave until the Promise of the Father was fulfilled. This means they could not leave until they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. John, the Baptist, baptizes with water, but Jesus was speaking of a new kind of Baptism. Baptism was an outward sign of commitment, however, to be effective, it had to be accompanied by an inward change of attitude leading to a changed life. That type of change can only be done by the Holy Spirit. The disciples were together, but were not released to do with work of the ministry, because they had not yet understood the power of the Holy Spirit. This is a crucial lesson for us. Don't speak what you don't know. If we are making things happen, then are we really being led by the Holy Spirit, or are we using witchcraft. Jesus was preparing His disciples for a new kind of love, what was yet to come. Agape is the type of love that is willing to give and die even for an enemy. Peter had to learn humility before he could obtain leadership. Leadership in ministry requires a servant's heart, which means contributing to others and developing people. He ran down the street like a little boy following a parade. Zacchaeus even climbed a tree, so he could see what was going on. Pride often keeps successful people from trusting Jesus, but not in Zacchaeus case. He was rich, but not happy. Zacchaeus was hated by the community because of his profession, but it did not stop him from seeing Jesus. Lastly, Zacchaeus took steps to show the community that he had changed. Jericho had over 20,000 priests and as many Levites at the temple. Because of the Passover, everyone was on duty. Bartimaeus, a beggar, sat at the northern gate of the temple. Bartimaeus caused an uproar to get Jesus' attention. The blind man did not let the crowd deter him from getting his miracle. Just like Bartimaeus, we must cast aside anything that hinders us in trusting Jesus alone. The faith the blind man exhibited caused him to receive his sight. We as believers may be spiritually blind and we need Jesus to heal us. Once our spiritual sight has been restored, we can be grateful for what God has done for us and follow Him faithfully.

Psychologists define attitude as "a learned tendency to evaluate things in a certain way. A settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something." Often our attitudes are a result of our experiences or upbringing. Christ's attitude was humble. He was willing to give up His rights in order to obey God and serve people. This should be the attitude of every believer. The servant's attitude means we serve out of love for God and for others, not out of guilt or fear. Today, Bishop teaches from John 15:6-7 on how "Disconnecting Causes Decrease." The word "abide" means to "remain or stay around." "Remaining" is evidence that salvation has already taken place. The fruit or evidence of salvation is the continuance in service to Christ and His teaching. True believers obey God's commands and willing submit to His Word. They are committed to God's Word and devoted to His will. This results in the believers prayers being answered. Failure to remain rooted in the Lord results in complete removal from the plant, and that branch will wither and die. If believers continued to stay rooted in Christ, they will grow up spiritually. Majority of people who leave the faith is because they can't stand the pressures of life. We need to remember or tribulation, distress, persecution or famine can separate us from the love of God. If we truly love Him, we will continue to remain in Christ and do His will. Not because of obligation, but because of how much we love Him. Today, Bishop teaches from John 15:3-5 on "Increase Requires Abiding." Grape branches or tendrils can grow very fast & very long. A lush vine with little fruit has failed its purpose. God may limit or remove achievements, objects, and abilities. The Greek word for "cleansed" is (kathario) meaning "purged" or "pruned." This spiritual cleansing is spiritual, taking away the contamination of sin. It does not mean we are perfect, but we are in the process of being purified. The word "abide" means "to remain, continue, abide or live." It is a command. Abiding means to make a constant, moment-by-moment decision to follow Christ. Fruitfulness is the result of the Christ's life being reproduced in a disciple. There are three parts to remaining. First, accept Jesus as our Savior. Second, continue or persevere in believing, and love/submit to each other & God's word. We abide because we love the Lord and we understand we can't do anything without Christ. Today, Bishop teaches from John 15:1-2 on "Pruning for Increase." Pruning is the art of removing parts of a plant in order for the plant to be healthy and bear more fruit. A tree or bush will send out as many branches in many directions attempting to reach the sun. The promise of increase is contingent on us (believers) fulfilling our covenant commitments. Christ is the vine (trunk), we (Christians) are the branches, and God the Father is the Gardener. Pruning is done intentionally for the purpose of improved health & fruit-bearing. How does God prune us? (1) The Word of God should convict & cleanse us; and (2) God chastens us. God loves those He chastens. When we accepted Christ as our Savior, we were given eternal life and the power to live saved. Now, it is time for us (believers) to live up to our confession. The more we abide in Christ, the more fruit we bear, the more our Father has to prune us, so the quality keeps up with the quantity. Today, Bishop continues the series on the "Church" from Luke 16:9-12 on the topic "Stewardship." Money is not neutral, it is evil and it must be sanctified by God to be used for good. Money defiles those who love it and allow it control their lives. As believers, we understand money is a tool which we are required to use responsibility for God's kingdom. There are three principles we need to practice. First, if you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in great things. Don't let your integrity slip in small matters. Second, if you are faithful with money, you will be given spiritual riches. Every person is a steward of God's gifts, including life. If Christians cannot manage their money, property, and other possessions properly, then they cannot be expected to be entrusted with the rewards that last forever. Lastly, if you are faithful with what belongs to someone else, God will give you your own. If you are not responsible in what belongs to your parents, boss or Pastors, God is not going to give you your own stuff. Today, Bishop Rodgers teaches from Matthew 16:18-19 & John 20:21-22 on "Birthing of Church." Jesus' breathing on His disciples was a sign or pledge that they would be endowed with the influences of the Holy Spirit. The church is defined as "the people of God, redeemed by the death and resurrection of Christ, called out of the world and into the Kingdom of God." We enter church by our confessed belief in Christ's work on the cross, but we use the "keys" (authority) to enter the kingdom. The "Gates of Hades" restricts us from becoming the church. Hell is the final destiny of all unsaved people after the judgment. Also, it symbolizes the organized power of death and satan. Their job is to get people to believe the lie "You don't need Jesus." Authority is symbolized by the giving of the "keys to the kingdom" but until Christ "breathed" the Holy Spirit into the disciples, they were without power to understand or utilize the authority. The breath or Spirit of God is the principle cause of His spiritual and divine life. The coming of the Holy Spirit is like the wakening of life from the dead. Eve was the first mother and the original ancestor of all people. Due to Eve's nature, she was quick to respond to the serpent suggestion than Adam. This error caused both her and Adam to sin. Though they sin, God provided life and clothing to His creations. Jesus raised the bar for women. He paid attention to them. His manner was inclusive and acknowledged their place in the kingdom. Today, Bishop Rodgers teaches from 1st Peter 4:14-18 on suffering. The fiery trial is a refining process, by which God removes the dross and purifies us. God's judgment begins "at the house of God." There are 3 main questions we, as believers, need to ask as it relates to suffering: (1) Why am I suffering?; (2) Am I ashamed, or glorifying Christ?; and (3) Am I seeking to win the lost? We as Christians are not guaranteed we will escape the normal consequences of our misdeeds. If we as Christians, get in trouble or become meddler, we ought to suffer for our sin. An "evil doer" is defined as a "wicked person; or one who is guilty of injustice & wrong towards others." There is a certain amount of disgrace in any sort of public suffering. On the cross, Jesus Christ despised shame for us, so we can bear reproach for Him and not be ashamed. The "lost" are defined as "those who do not obey God." The "new relatives" refer to Jesus calling His disciples "My brothers," instead of "friends." The shift focus from blood to spiritual kinship. The shepherds received an unexpected and glorious appearance of the divine visitor. God chose a group of humble shepherds to announced the Son of God as Savior, Lord and Christ - that is Delivered, Master and Anointed King. Once the shepherds heard the message, they acted quickly and went to Bethlehem to see what the Lord had revealed to them. We, as believers, must be quick to act once we have received a word from the Lord. After we hear the word of God, we must accept the invitation, respond by obedience and glorifying & praising God. The five spiritual gifts Apostle Paul mentions are ineffective if we don't love properly. Love must be fervent, which mean must have some heat or passion. Love pulls together the other graces in perfect and unified action. Above all, this means as far as fellow believers are concerned, right relationships between them are paramount. Love is blind to the the faults of others. According to Deuteronomy 6:4-6, we must love the LORD our God with all of our heart, soul and strength. If you find that you have lost that loving feeling, you can return back to your first love. First, you must desire to regain that close communion with Christ. Second, repent. This means change your mind and purpose along with your conduct and demeanor. Lastly, repeat the first works, i.e. watch, fast, pray, reprove sin, obedient service and worship. The proper response to our belief that God is love is our concrete actions of our love for one another. Love, agape, is only real if it is directed out. When our love grows cold it is because we have replaced God's love with idols. Idols are created to serve humanity's self-centered love and vain ambitions. If we take love out of church, we have religion. This means we do a lot of telling people what to do, rather than showing them. Love is practical, observable, expressing itself in our actions and attitudes toward others. In Revelations, Jesus shifted from patting the church on the back to a rebuke because the lost their first love. First love always involves passion in the pursuit of an intimate relationship. The church cared more about ritual than love. If the church failed to repent, Christ would remove its lamp stand, that is put out its light. The church was busy with all kind of tremendous works, but these were not designated as "the work of faith." They lost their love for Christ and His people. We must never forget the superiority of relationship over performance. Love is an active verb that is directed outward toward others. Cold love does not equate to old love, it is love without passion. As you listen to this life-changing message, reflect on your relationship with Christ and your relationship with His people. The danger of bitterness in the heart, results in us treating people the way the devil treats them. Love and forgiveness are interwoven. You can’t have one without the other. As a believer, when our love is off with God, it results in ritual. This means we go through the motions of a believer, but our relationship with God is off and we have no power. Bishop uses the lesson of the withered fig tree to expound on the lesson. The lawlessness one is described as a satan’s representatives. In Rev. 2:1, the reason for cold love is the result of sin. As the body of Christ, we can’t afford to abandon our first love of God for the love man. When we placed our trust in man instead of God, we do Christian stuff, but there is no power. Our faith must be in God and only God. Faith, prayer, love, and forgiveness are all tied together. So, faking forgiveness will never prosper the believer. Those of us who have been forgiven so much by God should, of all should readily to forgive others. God has shown Himself "kind, tender-hearted, and forgiving to us, for the sole purpose you in turn will do the same toward your fellow man. God has forgiven us through Christ. This means He has cancelled your debt. Bishop expounds on the topic by covering Luke 7:36-50 "the sinful woman forgiven." No matter how much a person has done against us, it does not come close to what we have done against God. There is no hierarchy of sin in the sight of God: sin is sin. Sin infects every area of our lives, no matter how "good" we think we are. The sinful woman's love proved she had been forgiven. Love did not come first: it is a response of God's working in our lives. God's forgiveness is not automatic. This day choose to examine your life for any signs of unforgiveness. This means foul language, bitterness, anger, wrath, shouting and slander should not come from a mouth which is used to praise God. No matter what the person has done to us, we need to remember Christ, who knew no sin, died for all of our sins. We must show the same type of forgiveness. True forgiveness meant that even if in our own humanity we cannot completely forget the actions and effects that someone caused, we can forgive the sin itself. After Peter gave his sermon to the house of Israel, the men were cut to the heart and asked the question "what shall we do." When we hear a word from God, it should cause us to ask the same question. The question leads to a change. The change must take place in the heart first. Repentance must involve both a change of mind and a change of action. If we change because of fear it is not a real change. Forgiveness does not abolish the consequences of what we have done but it puts us in right standing with God. Baptism is a sign of repentance and a changed heart -- an external, nonverbal expression or celebration of an inward reality. Baptism is the visible proof of repentance and commitment to follow Jesus. Real repentance makes us realize we cannot save ourselves.
