We're throwing you another psychagogic V8 Radio Podcast with your hosts Kevin Oeste and Mike "Q-Ball" Clarke! This time, the guys dive deep into the chaotic, unscripted realities of owning and building classic cars. From Kevin’s hilarious (and soaked) misadventure driving his top-down ’62 Ford Galaxie convertible through a torrential downpour without working windshield wipers, to Mike’s update on his ongoing ’67 GTO project, the garage banter is in full gear.

Kevin also shares a detailed recap of his recent trip to Washington, D.C. with SEMA, advocating for the "Right to Modify" and explaining how advanced safety tech impacts the future of hot rodding. Plus, the V8 Speed and Resto Shop Engine Shop is absolutely humming with engine builds, including Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Cadillacs, and a very stubborn Buick 350.

Topics Covered The Anatomy of a Rainout: Kevin recounts getting trapped on the highway in his '62 Ford Galaxie convertible during a sudden storm with an inoperable hydraulic top and missing wiper arms. * Engine Shop Chronicles: A look inside the booming V8 Speed and Resto Engine Shop, highlighting the trials of a finicky Buick 350 timing cover, numbers-matching Chevelles, and a rare Palisade Green '70 GTO. * SEMA Takes D.C.: Kevin breaks down his recent trip to Washington, D.C., educating lawmakers on the ADAS Integrity Act and preserving our freedom to modify vehicles without government intervention. * Tuning and Fuel Economy Woes:* Kevin tries to solve the mystery of why his fuel-injected, overdrive Galaxy is suddenly getting worse mileage after a complete 20-year tune-up.

PLUS: Automotive Trivia Questions (No Spoilers!)* What does the "SC" stand for in the classic American Motors Corporation (AMC) SC/Rambler produced from 1958 to 1969? * How many total Pontiac Firebird convertibles were built across all generations?

Kevin Oeste and Mike "Q-Ball" Clarke are back delivering another fun, insightful ride through classic car culture, hot rod builds, and shop life at V8 Speed and Resto. When 1910 Meets 2026: Racing Internals in Brass Era Beasts! 🏁📜

The latest V8 Radio Podcast is LIVE! Kevin and Q-Ball are joined by the master of the "unobtainium," Mike Pestello from Coachcraft and Precision Services. If you think restoring a muscle car is tough, try building parts for a 1907 Packard from a single photograph! 🤯

Mike takes us deep into the world of Brass Era restoration, where 100-year-old engines get treated to modern 4340 billet cranks, racing pistons, and serious compression bumps. We’re talking about pre-WWI cars completing 4,000-mile endurance runs without a support vehicle!

In this episode, we cover:

  • 🔧 Reverse Engineering History: How 3D scanning and printing are saving cars built before the Titanic sank.
  • 🏎️ The "Sleeper" Century: Hiding modern racing engine technology inside 120-year-old engine blocks.
  • 🧟 The Zinc Pest Nightmare: Why "New Old Stock" might actually mean "crumbles in your hand."
  • 📉 Dyno-ing the Ancients: Building a custom dyno because modern ones can't handle engines that max out at 2,000 RPM!
  • 🏆 PRI Show Recap: Highlights from the Performance Racing Industry show and the emotional Hall of Fame inductions.

😂 Funny Moment: Don't miss the trivia segment where Kevin and Mike Pestello accidentally share a brain cell! They both gave the exact same answer to two completely different trivia questions. Great minds think alike... or maybe they've just been around too many exhaust fumes? 💨🤔

Back in 1963, Craig Breedlove famously set the world land speed record in the Spirit Of America, returning the title to the United States from Englishman John Cobb.  And although Breedlove went on to set more records and go much faster than the 428.37 speed he achieved that day, we thought it would be fun to tell the story straight from a first hand account written in the pages of a 1963 Sports Illustrated Magazine.    This is a great story, with quotes from Breedlove, and a historic vantage point from a very exciting time in land speed racing history.   We hope you dig it!   Hosted by Kevin Oeste.

On this episode of V8 Radio, Mike Clarke and Kevin Oeste dive into a behind-the-scenes scenario regarding an unusual error faced by the V8 Speed and Resto Shop Crew on a project that’s nearly complete, but not quite yet. The car is the sweet 1969 Camaro heavily modified with a Detroit Speed suspension system, Baer Brakes, Forgeline Wheels, Vintage Air, C and R Radiator, Currie rear axle, Hydratech brake booster, sticky Toyo tires, and more. The big recent upgrade comes in the form of a 700+ horsepower GM LT-4 supercharged V8, and so far, it’s been a heck of a ride. However, the calibration in the ECM is doing a few funky things during the accelerating upshifting process. We’re working with GM on a solution, but sometimes you have to work around quirks when you build custom cars. This, automotive trivia questions, a nod to NASA Flight Director Gene Kranz, and news on an upcoming V8TV production at the Performance Racing Industry show in Indianapolis! Whew, that’s a big episode of V8 Radio!

Welcome to a super-special episode of V8 Radio, the companion program to the 200th episode of Muscle Car Of The Week! In this episode, we’re airing the complete interview we recorded with 3-time Indy 500 winner Bobby Unser recorded at the 2016 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago. This interview was a special stage presentation where Unser gave us the story about the amazing 1969 Ford Torino Pike’s Peak racer he drove to victory in 1969. The legendary cast of characters in the story includes Bunkie Knudsen, Smokey Yunick, Bill Stroppe, Holman and Moody, and many others, and Unser tells the fascinating story as if it happened yesterday. The car is a purpose-built stock car built by Bill Stroppe and Holman and Moody and is powered by a Smokey Yunick built Boss 429. Unser had not seen the car since ‘69, but he was surprised to learn that the car remains in as-raced condition today. He went on to share many stories of racing in general, and how to be a winner not only on the track but also in life, and a great recollection of a huge party after a winning snowmobile racing season! The display was a huge hit at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, and the car is a very special piece of racing history in the Brothers Collection. Enjoy the show!

It started back in 1996 when Kevin and his buddy Paul Wieshuber embarked on the Hot Rod Power Tour in a car worthy of a junkyard, and it all went downhill from there. Who'd have thought he would have landed a job with Hot Rod and eventually start V8TV and the V8 Speed and Resto Shop? They also chat about the 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL 427 R-Code featured on Muscle Car Of The Week, ratchet up the trivia questions, and have a few laughs on this episode.

This week, our buddy Brian Stupski of Problem Child Kustoms joins again as we discuss various topics growing out of the recent Detroit Autorama, ranging from thoughts on high-dollar cars, the role of technology as applied to custom car design and construction, and his involvement with the 1965 Dodge "Dart SL" built by Big Oak Garage which landed a spot in the Great 8. Oh yeah, and a little about wild kustoms of the past, a new take on the toilet seat car, and a comparison of 1969 Camaros to classic rock albums.

On this episode, we hang with Brian Stupski, the artist behind Problem Child Kustoms and Studio PCK hot rod design. The episode starts off innocently enough, discussing car design renderings, big shows like SEMA, and building cars... then takes a fowl turn into custom van weirdness. At any rate, Brian is a good friend of ours and a tremendous designer, and we're lucky to be able to spend some time with him... no matter how weird things get. Check out the gallery of his work at http://www.problemchildkustoms.com.
