Christmas episode? New Years episode? Nope! We were too busy hanging out with our kids and family to do one of those! But talking about sex and lust? We can definitely do that. This is technically a class we taught for High Schoolers, DISCLAIMER: the episode released for High Schoolers was extensively edited because Neil. lol. Neil is drinking New Belgium’s Trippel (https://www.newbelgium.com/beer/trippel/) from Fort Collins Colorado, and I’m drinking Sierra Nevada’s Oktoberfest (https://sierranevada.com/beer/oktoberfest/). Here are the notes from the show: * VHS and the lack of release of the Black Cauldron. Have you ever seen the Black Cauldron? Probably not, and Neil stumbled on an article discussing the lack of VHS release and the strange, and short lived re-release. Check it out here: https://kylelovesanimationnmore.wordpress.com/2019/07/26/the-black-cauldrons-brief-re-issue/ * Then we “smoothly” transition into talking about Confirmation Retreats and what’s the point of them in the first place. What up Fold! If this is your first time listening to us, welcome to the show! Neil and I usually discuss theology, culture, sometimes politics, around an alcoholic beverage or 2, but for this episode we were at the Las Vegas Diocesan Conference so less drinky-drinky and more talky-talky. We talk Catholic Pet-Peeves with several conference guests! Included on this show in order of appearance: * Amanda Everson * Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Las Vegas, Gregory Gordon (I know right! We’re excited too!) * Sr. Patricia McCormack, IHM * An anonymous police officer (wink, wink) * And recurring guest D-D-D-Dylan Barnard!! (Horn effects and fireworks) It was a good time hanging out with all our friends from around the diocese. I hope you all enjoy this episode! We’ll have one more conference episode then we’ll be back to more drinky-drinky. Listen to enter our first listener contest!! Here are the links to the gratuitous sound clips from this episode: * Bart Goes to Catholic School https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYn7RxKsAnA * Hot fuzz - because he’s f* ugly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjDQhWWszGE * The dogs with bees in their mouth https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeqkoTY61U0 Special Guest: Dylan Barnard.

We start off talking about Masters of the Universe Revelation, but we don’t just bash it. Like good Christians we looked for the good first, but then we take issue with it. Primarily with the idea that they took He-Man and made it a tool for the advancement of a particular political agenda and we contrast that with how bad Christian movies basically turn sermons into films and that’s why they suck. So here's what happened. The wives are out celebrating Canada Day with some friends, Neil and I get all 5 kids and a bottle of Trader Joe's Speyside Single Malt Scotch Liquor, so naturally we let the TV babysit the kids while we drink and podcast. It did not go well. Shout out to Teri Love for sending us our topic for the day! Boats! We talk boats, planes, a little bit of trains, and a dash of automobiles. Neil and I start a discussion on utilitarianism in how we treat workers, celebrities, and people in general from the observation that Jonathan Roumie is being used to promote all things Catholic right now because of the success of The Chosen. The Power of Love and Friendship Finally Neil and I get to podcast in person again with the help of some brand new equipment! So exciting! Things in the show: * We’re drinking Bonterra’s Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 vintage https://www.bonterra.com/wines/cabernet-sauvignon/ * Muppet Movie clips. One from the original Muppet Movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lniNb9Kygjg and one from The Great Muppet Caper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkZ2tvcPYG0 * Luke Daab “Two of a Kind” a song about Firestorm. We play the whole song at the end for your enjoyment https://daabcreative.tumblr.com/post/44675635239/two-of-a-kind-the-firestorm-song-celebrate-the Then Neil gives us a bit of history of Firestorm and what’s cool about him. * Just in case you’re still interested we give our Justice League review of the Snyder cut. Neil loved it, I still want a shorter theatrical version of it. Also, spoilers soooo. You’ve been warned. * This leads into our main discussion about good storytelling and why the Evil Superman stories always seem to be lacking something. When the ultimate power, who is the one who defeats all the evils, becomes himself evil, how do you overcome that kind of evil? Trickery and going back in time to prevent it seems unsatisfying, but the power of love and friendship seems unsatisfying in these situations too. We need a better story here.

This is our first explicit episode, not because there is cursing, but because of the content. You've been warned! This is a continuation of our last episode that takes a wild left turn into the realm of SEX. I ask the question as to whether or not we teach Chastity wrong. We attempt to teach Chastity but most people hear abstinance which is problematic because abstinance leads to puritanism, shame, and fear, whereas Chastity is supposed to lead to freedom, love, and fullness of sexuality. Neil takes this opportunity to talk about safe sex. Do you really want to talk about safe sex with Neil? It's hilarous. Problems giving Chastity talks at retreats LGBTQ+ is discussed breifly, and probably poorly

Neil is drinking Genesee Black https://www.geneseebeer.com/beer/genesee-black/ (a real beer for once!) and I’m sipping a Gin and Tonic, and by Gin I mean Bombay Sapphire https://www.bombaysapphire.com/us/en/, which Neil makes fun of me for, but I’m fancy so there you go. Get your AMONG WOLVES BINGO CARDS here! https://mfbc.us/m/xqjce4g Here is a layout of the episode: * News: We’re buying a table at the Las Vegas Diocesan Conference on September 17-18! We’ll have mics, and we’ll do interviews, play games, and give away stuff! So come and hangout with us!! * Neil’s son, Robert, broke his ceiling with a cup. * The beginnings of a Justice League Snyder Cut review turns into a breakdown of the original Superman II and the Richard Donner cut of the film with a little pixar thrown in for good measure. * Then we talk about the idea that expectation is premeditated resentment and we relate it specifically to movies, but you're smart enough to relate it to the rest of your life. If not, let us know and we could always spell it out for you. Ok I screwed up. The sound quality on my side sucks, Neil sounds great, but my half is awful! The only reason we didn’t re-record is because the episode is excellent! If you listen to it I promise you’ll enjoy the content, just not my voice. In this episode Neil is drinking the big 32oz Miller Highlife (https://www.millerhighlife.com/av?url=https://www.millerhighlife.com/), and I am drinking Squatters’ Hell’s Keep Golden Ale (https://www.squatters.com/beer/hells-keep-golden-ale/). Aaron is our good friend who just had his little boy, Uriel, baptized and I'm the Godfather, thus Godfather references, Baptism hits, and children stories fill this episode. Any way here is the flow of the episode: * Gov Sisolak increases gatherings to 250 * Getting back into Ministry is hard * Uriel's Baptism * Tons of Godfather references * Little Nutbrown Hare (https://www.amazon.com/Guess-How-Much-Love-You/dp/0763642649) * and then it just derails. COVID-19 and Quarantine sucks, but this time we try to focus on the good things! Couple of things mentioned: * Patrick Lencioni's "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" (https://www.amazon.com/Five-Dysfunctions-Team-Leadership-Fable/dp/0787960756) Quick and fantastic read for anyone who works in teams or leads teams. * Office Space (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0151804/) a movie from 1999 that we reference and from whence all the sound bites came from. Enjoy this one! Hope you are all well, and that the resurrection in all of this is that our faith grows, our families grow, and we embrace Trust and conflict in our relationship with God.

This episode was recoded in Anahiem February 2020 before COVID shut down all of California. We were able to hang out with the St. Anthony of Padua Crew! Afterwards we headed back to the hotel to record and shared a Corona (oops). In this episode we discuss: * 3 obstacles to faith as presented by an unnamed young adult * Robert Barron ripped us off! His talk from RE Congress was definitely borrowed from us * Angel talks about Christian Films * Debut of Kat's Corner! Where we check in with our protestant friend on her road to conversion to Rome. 2020 LA Youth Day had it's ups and downs, more ups than downs, but we talk about both. We went to dinner and tried EVERYTHING on tap at The Phoenix Club (https://www.thephoenixclub.com/). Neil & I talk about the much debated Amazon Synod. Never heard of it? Well, then let us tell you that there is nothing to write home about here. However, Neil and I do talk about controversies such as Women deacons, Married Priests, and Monty Python. Neil is drinking Samuel Grant Burbon Whiskey, and he keeps calling it Steven Grant, and I'm drinking water because of Exodus 90 (me so holy). It's a fun conversation full of laughs and random crap. Enjoy.

Neil's new baby was born on Friday 13th and Gv and I moved into our new home on Friday 13th, but now that things are returning to the new normal we're back to talk about Jesus and his Church. Neil is drinking an Alaskan Ale (https://alaskanbeer.com) and I'm drinking water...it's a thing I'm doing called Exodus 90, more on that in the episode. We discuss new babies, new homes, the new Joker, Batman Hush, and why Catholic Bibles are bigger. Enjoy!

So what had happened was... Neil had a baby! Well not Neil, Neil's wife Lisa. But Neil was definitely involved! Neil's Baby was born on 9/13, and Gevie and I moved to a new house on 9/13. Between new baby and unpacking and repairing we've been too busy to get together long enough to record something! So we (by "we" I mean Neil was loosly involved) decided to piece together some of our content that gets left on the cutting room floor when I edit. There's some fun stuff here, we talk Podcast, movie, Star Wars, and debut a section we call "Neil's Comic Corner!" We're planning on recording something new for you guys next week! Pax et Bonum!!

So this is what happened... We were supposed to take an online pole, but clearly I don't know how those work, so instead we got some online suggestions and this is one we chose to talk about. DISCLAIMER: Neil and I are not drug users nor do we advocate the use of drugs, we promote the teachings of the Church. In this episode we are dealing with why a state might want to legalize drugs and how that will effect our families and society. Neil and I are drinking Chimay (https://chimay.com/us/) Grande Reserve an authentic trappist beer! We talk about the legalization of weed and what benefits and harms it brings to society. It all falls to the principle of subsidiarity people! Subsidiarity please!

Neil drinks Jameson (https://www.jamesonwhiskey.com/en-US/) out of a sippy cup, and I drink Stella (https://www.stellaartois.com/en_us/home.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw753rBRCVARIsANe3o47AXBUxxzWNoC-63m4ViYHkl-YUUKOiw0bF9DzIxTyd5Oo65n2YeBYaAjQXEALw_wcB) from the bottle like gentlemen. In the course of the discussion we talk about Sony and Disney's power-struggle for coveted Spiderman rights, I threw in some fun Simpson's sound effects (especially when Neil swears, sorry everyone), and we dive deep into an article (https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/08/05/transubstantiation-eucharist-u-s-catholics/) released by the Pew Research Center (https://www.pewresearch.org/) on Catholics and our views of Transubstantiation. Don't worry we solve all the world's problems by the end of it.

Our first interview! We knew for a long time that Dominic would be the one and it finally happened! We interviewed! In this we we drink Innis & Gunn (https://www.innisandgunn.com/us/), but since we were also playing a drinking game we switched to Gordon Biersch (https://gordonbiersch.com)'s Hefeweizen, but forgot to talk about it. Oops. Any way we talk Tolkien, but not just Lord of the Rings, but all Tolkien! It's a long one, but there is so much to this amazing Catholic author I couldn't bring myself to cut much! Rules to our drinking game: 1. When a place in Middle Earth is mentioned Neil takes a drink 2. When one of the big three from LOTR (Frodo, Aragorn, or Gandalf) are mentioned David takes a drink. 3. When a Tolkien work other than LOTR is mentioned Dominic takes a drink 4. Anytime "Tolkien" is said everyone takes a drink. Including you! Drink Responsibly! Neil has a Miller High Life (https://www.millerhighlife.com/av?url=https://www.millerhighlife.com/) I drink a glass of 19 Crimes (https://www.19crimes.com) and we talk about Grace. What it is, how it works, and how we cooperate with it or fail to. Neil's wife is back to school (which is also work), we talk about another podcast one of my former students started called The Vita Podcast (http://humanlifeaction.libsyn.com) and we jump into understanding Grace. The difference between actual and sanctifying grace what double predestination is how people reject grace and final rejection is accepting hell. how Amazon Prime's new show "The Boys (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Boys_(2019_TV_series))" makes a perfect depiction of what most people think of when they think of Christianity today. How we are the wounded body of Christ Blind Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52 (http://www.usccb.org/bible/mark/10)) St. Augustine's actual quote is "God please make me pure, but not yet" from his Confessions. I should probably have references with me when I podcast. smh. How we fight temptation and begin to win. We go through a lot! I probably screwed up a lot as well! I need to read more.

2019 Steubenville Retreat in San Diego CA! I put our Tuesday after the retreat recap at the beginning of the show. We talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly at the retreat while drinking gin. The rest of the show is our blog through the retreat, we begin on Friday when the bus arrives and we check into our dorms. Later that night we recap the retreat kick-off, the next evening we review Saturday's events, highlights being running out of hosts at morning Mass (yikes!), the terrible men's and dating talks, and the evening talk and adoration that successfully salvaged the day!! If you listen all the way through you'll hear Neil and I sound progressively more tired with each recap. We are old. Be sure to visit our webpage: awpodcast.fireside.fm (awpodcast.fireside.fm) And join the conversation on facebook and Instagram @amongwolvespod

This was originally recorded right after Father's Day. I screwed up on the recording so the sound quality isn't very good, but the conversation quality is great! Neil and I share some Glenlivet Scotch (https://www.theglenlivet.com) and we discuss Father's Day, going to Mass with small children, the existence of God and why it matters, we also talk Eucharist and our wives! Join the conversation Among Wolves Website (awpodcast.fireside.fm) Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/amongwolvespod/) Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/amongwolvespod/?hl=en) There's nothing on their yet because I don't know what I'm doing. Hopefully there will be content there soon.

Neil and I introduce ourselves over a couple of Black and Blues (Guinness over Blue Moon). We talk Highland Games, why we started a podcast, VBS, talking to our kids about the faith, our dad's talking to us about the faith, and our hope for the future. Also, I am still learning the editing process so the sound isn't perfect, and you can hear our wives talking in the other room, listen very closely as their conversation was probably better podcasting than ours. smh.
