Seems like most of the people who run ads on Facebook forget that first and foremost Facebook is an engagement social media platform.

Facebook wants people to keep coming back and stay longer.  So it makes sense they give preferential treatment to advertisers that have really engaging and entertaining ads.

People are always asking me why their ads aren’t working and I’ve talked about it A LOT on the podcast but it deserves going over it again.

Keep it simple. Keep an open mind. Know your numbers AND remember it might not be the ad at all.

When going through the process make sure you go back to front.

“... the time to buy is when there’s blood in the streets.” - Baron Rothschild

That old quote about the stock market is just as true for Facebook ads.

When people start saying the sky is falling and running for the hills that is the time to do the exact opposite of the masses.

Facebook ads are going through a phase that ALL major marketing platforms have been through.

I’m starting to see a mass exodus of Facebook advertisers and Facebook ads managers who were just here picking low hanging fruit.

Many didn’t have marketing skills but just knew how to input an ad and for awhile that’s all you needed to know.

Here is the really good part though...

A gap is now being created. Those of the opportunists leaving and those that are willing to do the simple but not easy work of actual marketing.

On episode 59 I talk about why now is the best time to get into Facebook ads.

I’m not saying you should abandon other marketing channels by a long shot but that Facebook is prime for opportunity.

Here are some of the key things I mention that you’ll need to pay attention to:

  1. Do your research! Know your ideal customer. - check out this tool over at HubSpot that will help you identify them:
    http://makemypersona.com
  2. Learn how to write better ad copy -
The Adweek Copywriting Handbook - Joe Sugarman
  3. Remember Facebook is an ‘engagement’ platform, so make sure your ads entertain them!
  4. Give amazing content - way beyond what they’re expecting
  5. Map out your strategy ahead of time
  6. Learn how to craft your ads and input them the right way. You can get my beginners course (see below for a huge discount) or buy another one. If you don’t buy my course JUST MAKE SURE THEY ARE GIVING YOU REGULAR UPDATES.
Facebook ads change often. You’ll want to stay on top of it.

Test, test, test. You gotta test!  That’s the marketer’s mantra.  It’s also the marketer’s scapegoat.

Lately, I’ve been getting a lot of emails about why their Facebook ads haven’t been working as well.  Why costs have gone up and reach has gone down.

On this episode, I answer these questions and dive into what’s been going on and why there have been some serious changes.

I also go over what you can do about it including how to leverage your ad spend.

The good news is that this recent change will separate the marketers versus the non-marketers and will really put those with the skills in a great position to get more traffic.

It seems like every other episode I make is about the Facebook pixel.  Episodes 2,15,16 and 41 to name a few.

Not to mention all the other ones that I mention how important the pixel is.

So why another one… and I promise this won’t be the last!

Simply put because I get so many questions about it.

The Facebook pixel is one of those things when you master what it can do to help you grow your business by tracking and retargeting you’ll literally feel like you are basking in the sunshine.

That might be a little bit of an exaggeration. It is really important though and on this episode, I talk about a few things like:
1. What the pixel is

  1. Setting up the pixel
  2. Why you should use the pixel
  3. Custom audiences and the pixel

And I give you an assignment at the end…

Hope you enjoy and if you want to explore whether or not we’re a good fit for working together go ahead and schedule some time here:

I was so excited about this episode that I literally stayed up way late to finish recording and get it ready for you.

Why? Because I love messenger bots!

Yeah, I know. It is just another thing to learn and it is not the same as getting an email address but they are really powerful and much easier than most realize!

You get nearly 100% open/read rates compared to what… maybe 20% on email.

You can interact with your potential customer by asking questions and then giving them answers based on how they respond.

You can make them entertaining because if they’re on Facebook they are looking for a distraction after all.

So, on this episode, I go into a strategy that is really powerful and easy to set up.

Facebook recently made a change.  What a shock. I know.

Now, business pages will have even less significance in the news feed.

This means the organic reach will be even smaller and it was already almost zero.

On this episode, I talk about business pages, how these changes will affect them and whether or not it should change your Facebook ads strategy.

I also dive into diversification and why it is super important not to have all your eggs (and I don’t even eat eggs) in the Facebook basket.

See you on the other side…

This episode is a more advanced technique partly because it requires you to commit time and money to your ads for about 30 days.

However, the rewards can be pretty amazing.

What I discuss is how to find the best placements for your ad.

All the Facebook ad experts (myself included) always say to only put your ads in the news feed.  With a couple of exceptions.

On this episode, I talk about how to use all the placements to figure out really which one is the right one for your ad.

Just remember this is a test. You are trying to figure out what works.

That’s what the pro media buyers do. They don’t pin their hopes on 5 days of 1 Facebook ad.

They’re prepared to spend money to figure out what works and be patient regarding the results.  Leave emotion at the door.

Don’t worry that’s a lot easier said than done. :-)

In the meantime, check out episode 51 and let me know what you think.

Running a webinar and driving traffic to them takes a lot of time, effort and money.

This retargeting strategy is simple yet effective at getting more people to show up live as well as more to purchase.

Most emails follow up sequences are read by only about 20% that sign up. That means that 80% of those who said “Yes, sign me up for the webinar” will never see a reminder.

Out of sight out of mind.

They might have signed up for your webinar but they aren’t nearly as excited about it as you are.

So we have got to stay in front of them in every way we can.

With this retargeting strategy, we are going to build 3 custom audiences and run 3 separate retargeting ads.

The first ad will remind those that registered that the webinar is happening.

The second ad will be to those that registered or saw the replay that you have an offer for them and you’ll run those ads until your cart closes.

The third ad is to those that visited the webinar registration page but did not register.

You paid good money to get them to click so you might as well extend them the offer too.

If all this sounds confusing then go ahead and listen to the episode and you can also take a look at this bonus video showing you how to set everything up.

Facebook lead ads which are listed in the campaign objectives as ‘lead generation’ have been out for a couple of years.

These ads are designed to capture leads quickly and easily without leaving the Facebook platform.

On this episode, I talk about how to set up the lead ads including creating the form as well as what placements can be used.

Facebook lead ads are good for some businesses but not others and once you listen to this episode you’ll be able to see if they might work for your next campaign.

Just remember with Facebook lead ads you’ll need a way to get the email addresses you collect from Facebook to your email service provider.

With some providers, they integrate directly but with others, you may have to use http://www.zapier.com to have them ‘zapped’ to your email service.

Once you get it all ready to go it really is a breeze and could be a great way to build your email list.

On this episode, we cover how Facebook charges for your ads as well as a few other things like:

  • Campaign Spending Limits
  • Campaign Budget Optimization
  • Daily Budget
  • Lifetime Budget

Also, I go over why getting charged by impression vs link clicks is actually not a bad thing and for the most part is the optimal way to run your ad campaigns.

The key to how you get charged is how you set up your account and I review this toward the end of the episode.

I probably harp on this way too much but frankly, it is most likely the #1 thing keeping your Facebook ads from working.

Know your ideal customer inside and out!

That is where targeting begins by identifying all the things your ideal customer loves and those things that stress them out.

There is a really cool tool by HubSpot to create your customer avatar:
http://makemypersona.com

If you haven’t used this tool yet or otherwise done a similar exercise please do it before you ever run another ad.

On this episode, I dive into creating an extremely targeted audience and how to narrow it down by adding additional demographic or behavioral factors.

Also, I cover how to exclude certain factors that maybe you don’t want your ideal audience to have.

Check this episode out and subscribe to my podcast and leave a review.

Quit keeping your free content a secret!

It would be awesome to write an epic blog post and then some semi-famous influencer just happened upon it and promoted the heck out of it for you!

However, until that time you better count on promoting your free content yourself and Facebook ads are the perfect way to do it.

On this episode, I cover the best kind of content to promote and why it makes so much sense running paid traffic to it.

These are ads you just keep running 365 days a year.

Hey Everybody,

This is my very first Special Edition of the Facebook Ads with a Twang podcast!

This is NOT the usual 10 minute or less tip but a 45 minute extravaganza.

Maybe extravaganza is a little much but it really is like a full training.

This episode is for coaches who are either new to Facebook ads or may be concerned about the technology part of it or you’ve been running ads without getting much traction.

If any of that sounds familiar then you’re in the right place.

Here is what I cover on this episode:

  • What makes Facebook ads different for coaches
  • Why coaches don’t use Facebook ads or give up quickly
  • The 5 biggest mistakes coaches make with their Facebook ads
  • The necessary steps to run a successful Facebook ads campaign
  • How to track the people who engage with your ad
  • The single best strategy you can use
  • Ad copy / Images / videos
  • Evaluating your ads - Your ads can only be as successful as your ability to measure them

So there is A LOT to this episode. You might need to listen to it a couple times to get the full effect.

On the episode I talk about my Free How Coaches Can Create Successful Facebook Ads mini-course to accompany everything I talk about.

There are 4 lessons and I included 4 bonuses. I probably went overboard.

Whether you’re new to Facebook ads or are a seasoned Facebook ads professional it is really easy to over think your ads.

I catch myself doing this all the time.

“Wow, look at this new tool that is in power editor. What does it do? Does it even work? What am I gonna test it on? How can I fit it into any of the campaigns I have running?”

“How many images do I need to test?”
“What is the best strategy?”
“How do I know if it is working?”
“What if I check the wrong box or don’t do something right?”

And on and on…

There are a lot of cool tools you can use in your Facebook ads. But if you’re not quite sure what they do and especially if ‘tech’ stuff seems overwhelming then just stick to the basics.

This episode is just about a 10 step process to follow to get your ads running.

Don’t get stuck on all the fancy new things. Keep it simple.

Simple works in your ad copy.

Simple works in your ad campaign.

Here is a 4th retargeting strategy and really it is an ‘add-on’ to other strategies.

The example I use is from episode 30 where I cover a particular strategy.

Then on this episode, I explain how to add this on.

Now I’m going to warn you. This isn’t for every market and a lot of people don’t like this approach because they feel like they’re their product/service away.

What I’m going to tell you is that there is so much more hidden value than getting the sale. You’re going to find out a lot about what your audience is thinking in regards to value and price of your offer.

Take this strategy and try it. See what shakes out and then decide.

Whatever you do follow up with those that buy and talk to them.  That insight alone is worth it.

What happens after your Facebook ad starts to really take off and you want to scale it?

Do you just up the budget to infinity?

That’s what most people do and more often than not they’re in for a rude awakening.

It makes sense though. If you’re spending $50 a day and it is working out then why not spend $500 a day?

The problem there is the Facebook algorithm. It just doesn’t work that way… ugh.

On this episode, I’m talking about how to scale in multiple ways so you can take that great ad and maximize the potential.

I pack a lot in on this so pay attention and do it right.. Otherwise, it may cost you more than you want.

What if you could train Facebook to send you the best leads?

Guess what? You can!

The way we do this is by ‘training’ or ‘seasoning’ the Facebook pixel.

On this episode, I cover the best way to train your pixel so you can get in front of more of the right people with your message.

I’m talking about things like - custom conversions, standard events, which objective to choose, how the Facebook algorithm works and how to take the information you’re getting so you can find even more ideal leads.

And - I review the best practices… at least from my experience.

Fair warning… this is a little more advanced.

So if you aren’t quite sure what a pixel is please check out episode 15 where I go over the basics.

Hope you enjoy it and please leave me a review. Thanks!

Over the last few years that Facebook ads have been around there seems to be this fear (borderline paranoia) about upsetting the algorithm by changing a running ad.

On this episode, I’m covering what you can change, what you can’t and some best practices for when you need to make a change but don’t want to screw anything up.

Some basic rules of thumb are:

  1. You can change anything in the creative - however, I prefer to duplicate the ad, leaving it in the same campaign and ad set.
  2. You cannot change the campaign objective. Even if you want to Facebook won’t let you. So you can’t go from a traffic campaign to a conversion campaign.
  3. You can change the budget (but don’t change it too much - 50% max)
  4. You can change the end date if you selected an end date from the beginning.

Can you change the targeting? Technically yes.

However, when you change the targeting you are telling Facebook “Hey, originally I wanted to target these particular people or interests but now I want to target these instead.”

As a result, Facebook will then need to go back to the drawing board and figure out exactly what you’re looking for.

Instead, duplicate your ad set and make the changes. Then shut off the original one.

Facebook ad costs seem to be on the increase. Actually, they’ve always been on the increase.

It is inevitable that the cost of any marketing platform will go up.

There are short-term increases - such as during the holidays when there is an influx of advertisers trying to capitalize on this time of year.

Then there are long-term increases. Like the news feed being completely full so now you’re always competing against multiple other businesses for that space.

How much are you willing to pay to be in the feed?

How relevant is your content to the audience?

These questions are crucial because the first one dictates what you can do profitably and the second tells you how Facebook sees what your advertising and therefore how much they should charge you.

If your ads don’t resonate with the audience you can bet your ad costs will go up.

You used to be able to just throw out any ole’ ad but now you really have to use your marketing skills.

Make sure you’re targeting the right people.

Have great copy and a compelling image.

Or, really consider going to video!

Facebook is all about video and the sooner you can become all about video the more your ads will work.

Check out this episode where I cover all this and a lot more...

Facebook ads can be so freakin’ frustrating. Especially when you read about so and so ‘crushing’ it with their Facebook ads because they just made $50k last month and spent $200 on ads.

Hey, I get caught up in that kinda hype too.

What they didn’t share was that they already had a 20000 person email list or 100000 followers on Instagram.

Those kinda things are important to know.

Comparing Facebook ads is not usually a great idea because most of the time you don’t have access to all the information.

On this episode I go over why comparing isn’t a good idea and how to focus on your own ads so you can make them successful.

Only about 1 out of 5 ads actually “work” from the get-go.

So if your ads haven’t panned out just yet don’t sweat it.

I go over what you need to do and also reference some other episodes which should help with this too.

For most businesses, their ideal customer has certain days and/or times they are most likely to be on Facebook.

On this episode, I answer whether you should ‘daypart’ your Facebook ads so that they only show at certain times.

Note that dayparting is a more advanced technique and is NOT necessary for almost everybody.

Facebook has an amazing algorithm and will do its best to optimize your ads regardless.

However, if you decide you want to try dayparting then you’ll want to listen to this and learn about lifetime budgets.

Lifetime budgets can help you optimize your ads more efficiently and without making it as complicated as dayparting.

Really hope you enjoy this episode and you can access a short video tutorial about lifetime budgets by going here:

Here is the third retargeting strategy I have shared and this might be the easiest.

I would love to tell you I think all this up so I could take full credit but really most of the strategies are ones I have come up with through countless hours of reading, watching and listening other Facebook ads and media buying experts.

My goal is to make it simple and give it you so you can implement it quickly without getting stressed out.

This strategy just involves either taking existing Facebook Live videos or running a new Facebook video ad to some original content and then retargeting those that watch at least 50% of the video(s).

Don’t overthink the video or the process. Just implement it!

Because I know the setup of this is often what is confusing I have created a short video that you can access by going here:

Whenever I talk to people about Facebook ads they almost always are concerned with the ‘technique’ part of it.

Target audiences, the perfect image, the latest greatest feature… the insiders secret that will help their ads dominate the market.

The thing is, with Facebook ads it is just like running a business.

80% (or more) of success is your mindset!

Now, you might be thinking… “C’mon Ben. Mindset sounds like some crazy mumbo jumbo. I just want to know who to target.”

I can tell you all day how to input your ads. What copy to have. Images. Placements. Pixels… the whole 9.  But the reality of it is if you don’t have your mindset straight and understand the value you’re bringing to the table for your customers then your ads won’t have huge success.

Yes, you can get by but you don’t want to get by. You want to have a freakin’ phenomenal ad. Right?

On this episode, I go over why mindset is so important and what you need to know in order to make your ads successful.

I really enjoyed this episode and I hope you do too.

With everything that’s been going on in the world of Facebook ads, it seems like a lot of entrepreneurs I talk to are forgetting the basics.

Building your email list is a huge deal. It is also huge to know exactly what you’re going to do with the list but that’s a different episode.

Email lists are still here. Still viable and can make all the difference in your business. You own your list.

On episode 34 I’m talking about how to create a simple funnel and driving traffic to it using Facebook ads.

Remember a funnel is nothing more than a process you put prospects through to turn them into customers.

Building your email list using an ad is one way.

Sending out follow up emails with more offers are another.

Your list is sacred. Don’t put people on it just to have a big list. A big list that won’t convert doesn’t do you any good.

Another thing a good list can do for you is to help you create a much bigger ‘lookalike’ audience.

We can actually take our email lists, upload it to Facebook and ask them to match our list with other people who are very similar in characteristics.

Now our list of 1000 becomes 2 million lookalikes we can run our Facebook ads to.

Find out how to do this here on a quick video I made for you:

Facebook ads do NOT have to be complicated.

Getting caught up in retargeting, bots, exclusion audiences, fancy videos and on and on does not always add to the bottom line.

On this episode, I go over creating a simple Facebook and the components that make them work.

Will this work every single time, in every market with every product or service?

Not likely!

What I cover are the basics for creating ads that work by keeping everything really simple.

We don’t need all the hype.

Just give me some great copy, a compelling image, the right audience and a product or service that they will love and I’ll give you a successful Facebook ad.

Facebook Live can be massively powerful if you’re using it.

If you’re just starting out or don’t have a lot of followers you can use Facebook ads to promote your Facebook live videos.

On this episode, I cover why Facebook live is important.

Where you should go live (business page, personal page or group)

What you can do with your Facebook live videos.

And I cover the 4 key things to remember when doing Facebook live.

Two of the BEST things about using Facebook ads to promote your Facebook live videos are:

  1. You get people who don’t know you to see your awesome content
  2. You can retarget video viewer of your Facebook live

Because this can be a little tricky I have created two videos to help out.

Have you thought about what you should and more importantly what you shouldn’t do about your Facebook ads during the holidays?

On this episode, I cover what to expect during the holidays and answer questions about whether you should start, stop or pause your ads.

Last year during the 2016 election Facebook ads went totally haywire.

That was not typical. At least I hope it doesn’t become the new typical.

Remember that retargeting will be more important than ever and being more personal with your ads will help you stand out.

You’re going to be competing against the big box retailers for news feed space and your ads better be 100x more relevant than theirs.

That is the only way to beat their ad spend.

Retargeting method #2 is all about making it personal.

People buy from people they know and trust.  If they like you that is a bonus.

They just want to validate they are making the right decision and that you can solve their problem.

By making yourself more ‘real’ to them you will help them validate.

This episode is how we make it personal.

You may have to get uncomfortable a little bit but that is part of being in business.

The best way to make it personal is by doing a video… I give you an example on the podcast.

However, I do cover 2 different ways so if you really don’t want to do a video you have another option.

You’ll want to create a 4-day retargeting audience and a 14-day retargeting audience.

Setting this up is not that hard and I’ve got this explainer video in the show notes on how to do it:

https://youtu.be/1_-kiOMjr38

Put this in your grab bag of ads and it will definitely help you get results.

Should you even be using Facebook ads to promote your business?

The short answer is - probably.

I didn’t use to be a believer. In fact, I resisted Facebook ads when they very first came out.

Then I started losing clients because they were going to do Facebook ads against my advice and hired somebody else.

So, I jumped in head first and haven’t looked back.

I have seen ads work in the craziest of niches where I thought you couldn’t make them profitable.

On this episode, I’m going to go over the ins and outs of what types of businesses are best suited for Facebook ads.

I’m also covering the 1 thing you must know before you even think about starting a Facebook ad campaign.

Retargeting! I hear it all the time.

You got to be retargeting.

What I hear very little of is the strategy.

There are several retargeting strategies and on this episode, I’m going to cover what I call the - ‘Dang, they’re everywhere’ method.

As you might have guessed this method is intended to make you an automatic celebrity.

We do this by running ads containing testimonials and case studies or other social proof about your amazing products, services or how awesome you are.

I’m going to cover the ins and outs of this strategy.

WARNING: To make this work you really have to retarget both on and off of Facebook.

You can just retarget on Facebook which will be effective but not quite as effective.

This is an advanced technique but at some point, you’re gonna want to have this in your arsenal.

This may come as a surprise but you don’t always want to show your ads to everybody.

In fact, you only want to show it to the right people.  Shocker. I know.

Say you have somebody who signed up for a webinar. Do you want to keep showing them the same ad to register for the same webinar?

Probably not. Not a good user experience and a waste of ad spend.

This is why we create ‘exclusion’ audiences.

On this episode, I’m going to cover in more detail what an exclusion audience is and how to create one.

Also, I have created a video tutorial and checklist to make sure you’re setting them up right.

It happens. You’re humming along, happy-go-lucky, not a care in the world… your Facebook ads are doing fine and life is good.

Then the dreaded email from Facebook.

It reads something like this: “Um, your ads suck, we’re not gonna tell you why and we aren’t gonna run them anymore. Also, you can’t do anything about it. This is final.”

Ok, maybe it is not exactly like that but it is pretty close.

Often you never find out exactly why it got banned. The dispute process is not really a process because you don’t get to participate and ‘plead your case’.

Somebody looks at it and gives it the thumbs up or down. Guess how often the thumbs up happens?  Not much.

So, much like cancer, heart disease, stroke and most other western diseases, the best cure is prevention. It ain’t perfect but if you can keep it from happening rather than trying to fix it afterward you’re much better off.

On this episode, I’m going to get into the nitty-gritty on the best practices to keep your account up and running.

Technically there really isn’t a ‘like’ objective for Facebook ads but rather an ‘engagement’ objective.

Question is should you spend the money on it.

On this episode, I cover the pros and the cons of running this type of campaign.

Whether or not a ‘like’ campaign is right for your business.

Also, I’ll go over how to set up the campaign itself and what you’ll need to keep in mind during setup.

AND the #1 thing you must have in order for a like campaign to work.

Ok, I’ll tell you now.  You must have EXTREMELY valuable content.

Since Instagram is a placement selection when you’re running Facebook ads it seems like we should talk about it.

Currently, Instagram has 400 million DAILY active users. That is a lot!

The demographics skew towards women and ages under 30.

However, that is changing fast.

From an ads standpoint, business to consumer is much more effective than business to business.

Even with these huge numbers, my current suggestion is not to use Instagram until you have mastered the Facebook ads news feed for brand new cold traffic.

That being said Instagram is great during retargeting and for pure content.

Some of the things I review on this episode are what makes a great Instagram ad and Instagram ad requirements.

Here are some tips for effective ads:

Design these separately from your Facebook ads

  1. Visually appealing - that goes without saying though right?
  2. Use a lot of contrast for each image
  3. Use diagonal lines where possible

Facebook ads can seriously catapult most businesses to the next level.

One of the biggest problems is that many entrepreneurs treat their ads like they’re playing the lottery.

The 3 biggest mistakes I see are:

  1. Not having a clear Facebook ads plan
  2. Not having measurements in place and keeping track
  3. Not scaling the winners

Running a Facebook ad begins long before getting into the ads manager.

Here is a basic work flow - BEFORE you open up the ads manager:

  • Define your ad objective
    • What specifically do you want them to do
  • Have a retargeting plan in place if people click but don’t take action
  • Install your tracking pixel
  • Create your audiences (ok you do have to open up ads manager for this)
    • Saved audiences (contextual, services, books/magazines, etc)
    • Custom
      • Email List
      • Website Visitors
      • Followers
  • Lookalike
  • Retargeting
  • Write your ad copy - Spend a lot of time on this!
  • Choose your image
  • Set your budget and define what a successful campaign look like
  • Input everything and follow the plan!

Hope this helps you get started!

Don’t forget I’m offering $50 off a complete funnel audit which includes any Facebook Ads

Nothing is perfect. I can give you all the Facebook ad advice in the world and you go implement it only to see it tank! What we do with Facebook ads is to play the odds. We use techniques and strategies that have the most success but there will always be exceptions to the rule! On this

What we do with Facebook ads is to play the odds. We use techniques and strategies that have the most success but there will always be exceptions to the rule!

On this episode, I discuss why you should separate your mobile and desktop ads.

Part of the reason is so you maintain control.

If you let Facebook choose they will show your ads at least 90% mobile.

But what if the people who actually buy from you do so from desktop? Now you’ve cut out a HUGE pool of buyers.

You won’t ever know until you separate desktop and mobile.

Not to mention this will allow you scale the one that is working and possibly cut off the one that isn’t.

Another key here is ad design.

Mobile ads look different than desktop and you might want to adjust the formatting to make sure you are presenting the best possible image for the given platform.

I dive into all this on episode #21.

Don’t forget - as a celebration for the 20th episode I’m giving $50 off for a complete Funnel Audit (this includes FB ads).

Does it help to start and stop your Facebook ads?

Almost always this is a bad idea. Trying to time Facebook ads based on holidays, algorithm changes, elections, etc usually doesn’t work out.

It’s very similar to trying to time stock market picks. Buy low, sell high. Time it right and you could make a bundle.

The thing is most people lose their shirts. It is the same way with Facebook ads.

Some try to time the Facebook ad market and will stop a successful campaign because of some “major update” only to find out when they start the ads back up those ads never return to being as good as they were.

Facebook ads are an investment. Follow the data and the trends. Base your decision to start or stop an ad on your numbers.

We cover this and more on episode #20.

AND - since this is episode #20 - I’m offering a $50 discount for my Funnel Audit this could include auditing your Facebook Ads. To schedule just click the link below:

Episode #19 - What Facebook ad placements are right for your ads

Where your ads are shown can make or break your whole campaign.

Facebook currently has 12 places your ads can be shown and included in some of those are thousands of websites and mobile apps.

I know, I know - the more the better.

Just like audience size though you don’t want to show up everywhere because where your ads show is almost as important as who you are showing them to.

If your ad shows up in places that are out of context or where incidental clicks are likely to occur than this is not a good use of your ad spend.

On this episode I cover the placement of your ads. Which ones are useful and why some are better than others.

Also, I have created a bonus to walk you through an advanced placement option as well as how this affects your ad layout.

Negative comments are going to happen sooner or later. At least you better hope they do.

If you don’t get any at some point you probably aren’t running enough ads.

The question is - once you get one how will you handle it.

Will you say something passive aggressive? Will you be snipity right back? Will you ignore it?

On this episode, I talk about how to handle these and ultimately use them to your advantage.

Negative comments are a positive for marketing.

Check out episode 18 and find out why.

This episode is about a crucial and amazingly underutilized part of
Facebook ads - custom audiences.

A custom audience is defined as - “An audience of people who have some kind of relationship with your business”

In Facebook terms this could be -

  • Email list

  • Website visitors

  • Video viewers

  • Page Engagement

  • Instagram business profile

There are others but these are the main ones.

Hint: on the episode I give a tip on how to use your LinkedIn contacts.

Using these audiences you can show ads to people who watched a certain video but haven’t visited your website.

You can show ads who added something to the shopping cart but didn’t checkout.

But you gotta create the custom audience to do that stuff!!

Find out how on episode 17!

Episode #16 - How to use the Facebook Pixel to grow your business

Hopefully you listened to episode #15 and understand now what the Facebook pixel is.

On this episode I’m gonna talk about where you can put the pixel and how to use it to help grow your business.

This is pretty important.

Most of your competition is probably either too lazy or confused about pixels to actually use them effectively.

So there is little doubt you learning everything you can and using pixels when running your ads is hugely important.

The cool thing is that once they are set up you really don’t have to mess with them.

Your priority will be in how to use them on your next campaign to accomplish whatever goals you have set.

This episode will be fun and I can’t wait to get started. See ya there!

You’ve just been PIXELED!

Whether you know it or not or even like it or not you have been getting pixeled for years.

On this episode I’m going to cover:

  1. What a pixel is
  2. Who uses pixels
  3. Why pixels are used
  4. How a pixels can help you grow your business and even help you outpace the competition

There really are a lot of marketing options out there.

You have SEO, Google Adwords, YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, Native Ads, Direct mail (yes direct mail is bigger now than ever) and of course Facebook.

So why Facebook?

I’ll let you in on an insider secret… it isn’t just about the targeting!

Truth is all those I listed have just as good and in some cases better targeting.

So what’s the difference?

How about 2 billion users for one thing!

Think about that for a second. More than 25% of the worlds population decided to actually jump on Facebook and register.

Yes, you can get in front of many of them using Google but Facebook gives you a chance to really connect with them.

When somebody sees your ad they can click on your profile and check you out. Don’t think they aren’t doing that because they are!

Facebook is interruption marketing because nobody gets on Facebook to check out the ads. Except maybe me. :-)

But Facebook is still better than cold traffic because they can somewhat connect with you right there on the ad.

Not to mention that currently the cost of doing so is pretty low. Yes, it will go up but for now it is relatively inexpensive, a low learning curve and it flat out works!

Episode #13 - When do you stop blaming your ad

It happens to all of us. We create our Facebook ad and everything seems a go… Objective - Check! Placements - Check! Targeting - check! Copy - Check! Image - Check! 5,4,3,2,1….. And…. Uh, where are the conversions?

You did everything right. Must be the ad.

Well what if its not the ad at all?

None of us want to believe its our offer, our webinar, our landing page, our sales page, our closing skills… it is so much easier to blame the ad. And a heck of a lot more convenient.

The truth is ads are only a part of any marketing funnel. ALL the pieces have to work in order to achieve the right outcome.

In this episode I dive into what to do if, heaven forbid, it is NOT your Facebook ad but something else in your funnel.

Hope you like this and whatever you do… comment, subscribe and share this episode. There are some people out there who really need it!

Your competitors in the Facebook news feed are glaringly obvious but they probably aren’t who you think.

Do you think Wal-Mart is competing against Amazon with their ads?

Every Facebook ad in the news feed is competing against everyone’s friends and family.

People aren’t on Facebook to see your ad or my ad. Ads are an interruption to seeing what their crazy uncle Fred said over the weekend. Or maybe seeing their grandkids new pictures.

You and I are dead last on the priority scale.

You don’t have to make your ads better than your competition. You have to make them better than their friends who post.

Look through people who are in your ideal audience. See what they are posting about. That is exactly what they want to read and see.

Model your ads to conform with those and you’ll have a winner.

This episode is all about getting the right message for the right market.

On this episode, I answer one of the questions that many Facebook ad experts cringe at hearing. “Should I just boost my Facebook posts?”

Maybe the reason Facebook managers don’t like it because they see it as a way for business owners and entrepreneurs to run their own ads. Perish the thought!

The knee jerk reaction and I have been guilty of this myself is no you should not boost a post.

However, on this episode, I cover the pros and the cons as well as give you suggestions when you SHOULD boost and when you shouldn’t.

If you want me to save you the suspense the short answer is - boost if you don’t feel comfortable with using either the ads manager or power editor AND you have a strategy behind boosting.

In other words, don’t boost it just for the sake of it or because it is so easy.

When was the last time you made a ton of money using a marketing tool that was as easy as a couple clicks?

If you’d like to see a quick video tutorial I have made about how to boost a post the right way - you can access it here:

Maybe you’ve heard of this fantastic research tool that Facebook has called audience insights.

It is right in your ads manager.

On this episode, I cover the ins and outs of it and how powerful it can be to find out the nitty gritty of your own audience as well as your competitors.

There are some limitations and Facebook does get some of their data through 3rd party sources.

Not everything is available for every country.

However, this tool will allow you to understand your own list or fans in great detail. Demographics, page likes, spending habits and much more.

If you want to see how I used it during the episode then go here http://onefocusmarketing.com/episode11 and download a video tutorial I did for you.

The Facebook business manager can make a huge impact on your business by protecting yourself.

Most people think it is just for marketing agencies or for Facebook ads experts but really it is for everybody who has an account.

In this episode I go over how it can protect you in these ways:

  1. Adding partners - that way you maintain control. Not the person who is running your Facebook ads.
  2. Adding users like a virtual assistant so they can only get access to the necessary items.
  3. How it helps if your ads account get shut down and it can no matter how bulletproof you think it is. We are just playing on their field… they can kick anyone of us off at any time for any reason!

Go to https://business.facebook.com to setup your account.

Setup your account. Add your Facebook ads account and add your Facebook business page. That’s all there is to it.

The first thing Facebook asks you to choose when setting up a campaign is what the objective will be. They are trying to determine how and where to show your ads to help you accomplish what you want.

There are currently 10 possible objectives…. WHEW! A few of them look exactly the same or are just outright confusing.

On this episode, I explain the only 4 you’ll probably ever use (for now) and which one means what so you can make a great decision.

The 4 that are used consistently are:

  1. Conversions
  2. Traffic
  3. Engagement
  4. Lead Generation

BUT and this is a big but - before you even think about picking one you must outline your overall strategy so that once you have to pick on you’ll know exactly which one to choose.

You might choose conversions for driving people to a lead magnet or a webinar. You might use traffic for retargeting. You could use engagement to get more Facebook Live views…. Etc.

Suffice to say there is more to it than just picking one off the top of your head. How to identify, understand and reach customers that convert by answering these 12 questions.

Where to go to find additional targeting sources.

How to exclude audiences so you can get in front of new people.

How to narrow your audiences and make them more refined.

This episode is actually quite a bit longer than the usual episodes. Mainly because there is a lot more to consider.

Hiring somebody can really be a sigh of relief or a source of stress.

I’m giving some practical tips as to where to find somebody and what to ask them when you do.

I’ll be answering questions like:

  • Do you see hiring someone to manage your Facebook ads as an expense to be managed or an asset that drives revenue?

  • Are you looking for someone to just input the ads or a Facebook marketing expert that can strategize your campaigns?

  • Why it is important for you to understand how to Facebook ads yourself even if you’re going to hire someone else to run them.

Find out why 99% of responses when asking for Facebook ads manager recommendations in a Facebook group are probably not a good idea.

Also, you’ll discover the 4 key questions you should be asking anyone you’re considering to take over your Facebook ad duties. These are crucial and will help you see a different perspective.

I covered A LOT! So feel free to contact me with additional questions. superman@onefocusmarketing.com

This episode may not be exactly what you think.  We are talking about those elusive Facebook ad leads for a nickel.

The leads that really do not exist but yet many think that’s what they should be getting.

Instead of focusing on pie-in-the-sky marketing I’ll talk about the 2 major keys to Facebook ads and figuring out what the cost of business is for you.

Can you live with a 2 to 1 return on investment instead of 20 to 1?  Meaning you make $2 for every $1 you spend instead of $20 for every $1.

You can stop comparing your campaigns to anybody else’s and start having them stand on their own. That’s one of the HUGE secrets to successful Facebook ads!
