Who do you trust? Whose voice do you listen to? Do we cling to our own way? Our own plan? Our own understanding, or are we acknowledging God is all that we do so that our paths may be laid out better in front of us? This is part 2 of our Summer Wisdom series this summer at Wesley!
Knowledge is good, but there is a vast difference between knowledge and wisdom
We might amass all the knowledge we can cram into our brains, but without wisdom, our knowledge is useless.
Where does real wisdom come from? Where can we find it? How do we obtain it?
What challenges our integrity? What threatens our humbleness and our ability to remain true to good moral character and uprightness? 2nd Samuel Chapter 11 tells of how David, in a position of power and authority chose hubris over humility. At just the moment when he thought he could no no wrong, everything went wrong. **Also, Senior Recognition Sunday at Wesley.
This week, Pastor Greg guides is through John 11 & 12 while reminding us of the scents that we encounter in this scripture. From Lazarus' body to Mary's fine perfume, we see that Jesus makes all things new.
What are your house rules? Could the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12) make it into your house rules? Does it work? Can it work? Where does this fit into the upside-down kingdom Jesus talked about?
If everything was gone tomorrow, what would matter most? The temptation of Jesus revealed His character. When we follow Jesus, we must know what we live for & what we are all about.
The only one who can lead us to true righteousness, to being the salt of the earth, and the light of the world, is Jesus- and he does so not by status but by relationship- to God, to Jesus, to others. We are capable of so much because of who Jesus is. Jesus has made you “it” because you are valuable, because you add so much to this world, and because he knows you can do it. You are the salt of the earth because of who Jesus is.
This week, Pastor Greg teaches on the transfiguration of Jesus. In his teaching, he reminds us to look at the text a bit closer & notice what is and what is not there.
What if there was a way to harness the power of a reaction (or an over reaction) for good? What about for the good of the Upside Down Kingdom Jesus talk sabout in the Sermon on the Mount? Tune in and see how doing more than what is expected can help point others toward a God who went the extra mile for us.
For week one of "Upside Down," we venture into the upside down kingdom that Jesus describes in the beatitudes.
Jesus is telling us that BECAUSE you’re a sinner, do something differently. BECAUSE you are broken, there is a new way. So do not be afraid of your sin, what you will do, what you are inclined to do, don’t be afraid that you will fall short. BECAUSE, from now on you will fish for people. Change is coming, and God is sending us on a mission.
We've all been there. Long nights in our lives, our work, our families. Empty boats in our finances, our work, our relationships. We find Simon experiencing a long night and an empty boat when he meets Jesus in Luke 5. Jesus invites Simon to a small, simple, act of obedience - an invitation to go out into the deeper water after teaching on the lakeshore that day and it changed the course of his life forever. When Jesus invites us into deeper water, what is our answer?
It was all going so well....until it wasn't. In Luke 4, Jesus first public teaching occurs in the shadows of the homes and streets where he grew up, but the welcome turned sour after Jesus flips the script on familiar texts from Isaiah. God's love, favor, and salvation include more people than just us? Why was this a surprise? Why did Nazareth reject the hometown hero, Jesus? Why was it that those who knew Jesus really didn't know Jesus?
We have the opportunty to meet a need because of what Jesus Christ has done & what the prophets foretold. If we witness to that, we have the chance to change our family, community, and world.

We often miss out on the depth of Psalm 23 because we think we already know what it has to say. But what if there is more? Join us for our three week series, "Psalm 23: I Am Not Alone," as Pastor Aaron uncovers some deeper truths about one of the most popular and most familiar texts in the Bible. Week 1: When we proclaim that The Lord is our shepherd, we are committing ourselves to a special covenant relationship.
God’s healing power is something that is insisted upon relentlessly and faithfully, this power is something that we bear witness to, and it is something that we all participate in. Be opened to the knowledge that God calls you his own and God calls those who are not like us his own. Be opened to the necessity for us to have the persistent faith where we do not take no for an answer. Be open in life…be persistent in faith…
In Pastor Greg's sermon, he teaches that one crumb of faith is enough to feed what the world logs for- hope, future, and a presence of God that surpasses all understanding. If you get one crumb of what God is trying to offer you, it can change your life and the destiny of human kind.
"What's on the other side?" This is a question we often ask ourselves whenever we are facing change. In Dr. Beth Sanders' sermon, she teaches on Mark 5:21-34 to answer the question "what's on the other side?"

The first segment in the 3 week series "Make Your Move." Pastor Lindsey preaches on the importance of not only being fed by, but moving with God's spirit as well.
God is not done with, not only you and your life, but with His work in the world. In Pastor Greg's message over Ephesians 4:3-13, he reminds us how God takes your past, washes it clean, and takes it in a direction that's heaven-bound. God wants you as He intended you. God can take anyone and turn them around and give them hope for a future that He has to reveal.
In Pastor Lindsey's message, she unpacks our human need for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, as well as our need to stop and allow restoration to take place in our lives. Once we are restored, we have the opportunity to step back into our world as people who have been made new: to listen to the need around us, to hear new wisdom, to share new wisdom, to be re-energized for the work of the Lord in our own lives and to share with others.
When you're hungry, it doesn't matter where you're from. When you're hungry, it doesn't matter what degree you have. When you're hungry, it doesn't matter the status that you think you've earned. Everyone hungers - as everyone needs God. In Pastor Greg's message he unpacks John 6:1-15 and discusses a time when everyone present at the gathering was satisfied-not simply through their stomach, but through their spirit.
Our lives in Christ are much like mosaics made up of broken things, put together, made into something beautiful & unique. In Pastor Lindsey's message from John 6:1-14, God works wonders with leftovers. In our lives, He works with our leftover broken hearts, lives, minds, bodies, and spirits, and we humbly choose to trust and offer God the pieces of our brokenness. He carefully & lovingly chooses amoungst all of it, and creates a brand new and beautiful thing with our lives. What an honor to be created into something new & created into something new.

Increasingly, we seem to have lost the ability to be kind to others. Yet, it is clear from Jesus’ life and example, as well as the teaching of the Apostles’ that we should be kind to others, so that they can know, understand and experience the love of Jesus. So, how can we do that?
Few people have been quoted as much as Jesus and just about everyone uses Jesus’ words to show how He might support a particular view they hold. But the popularity of Jesus’ words has led to more than just a few people misquoting Him. So what did He say? What didn’t He say? And what can we learn from it?

These days it’s easy to see life the way we want to. We can filter our images, pick the news we want to hear, and listen only to the viewpoints that agree with us. When we do that, we start to distort our view of the world. The same thing can happen to our view of God. We reshape our perception of Him into what we want to believe, or what we want to think about others. Jesus came to bring us the truth about God and His plan for us, and it doesn’t always sound like what you may think.
This series cuts through the noise of the world’s perceptions of Jesus and what it means to follow Him, in ways that may be surprising to some people. It plays off the idea of memes as jokes, rhetorical devices, and sources of misinformation to debunk popular misconceptions and bring clear truth.
We all face conflict, drama, misunderstandings, selfishness, harsh words, prejudice, and gossip. For much of history, humankind hasn’t gotten along very well. Enter today's social media age and then add ghosting, unrestrained opinion slinging, response time expectations, political polarization, TikTok rumor spreading, bullying in your pocket, comparison at Mach 5, lost social skills, and complete lack of civil discourse. It’s hard to be a teenager. It’s hard to get along.
This three-week series through the book of Proverbs will give all of us the practical tools we need along with a Holy Spirit kick in the butt to do the most important thing Jesus told us to do in John 15:12, “love others, as I have loved you.”

In Jesus time and ministry, He didn’t care much about outward behavior or token gestures. He encouraged authentic faith and living passionately for God and others. He brought hope to the lost, love to the broken, and purpose to those living without meaning. In this series, we will go beyond the simple slogans of what it means to be a Christ-follower and really live into a faith that is meaningful and authentic. We’ll figure out the roadblocks that Jesus wants to break down in our faith and grab ahold of a renewed passion for relationship with Him.
