“Social media is a fantastic way to grow your reach and to get new eyes on your business. But there is also so much happening on the various platforms in terms of how it's being used that can steal your time and steal your job.”

—Dee Boswell-Buck

Digital marketing has changed considerably in the past 10 years. Love it or hate it, social media is an essential foundation to create a strong online presence.

To be truly effective as a marketing tool, your social media must be strategically aligned with your short and long-term goals — whether that’s launching a new offer or growing your network via your email list — in order to reach and engage with your audience.

But that’s easier said than done if you’re not in a position to hire a digital marketing specialist!

Aside from creating, scheduling and analyzing content, keeping up with all of your communications across multiple platforms can be overwhelming.

This is why I hear so many entrepreneurs complaining that social media is stealing time they can’t afford to lose: Lost time leads to lost revenue and can affect your health and relationships.

Social media can be a time-suck… but it doesn’t have to be! In this episode of Strategize Your Business Online, I share 4 tactics to rescue your time on social media, so you can get back to concentrating on working in your business rather than on it.

It’s time to prioritize your time: Press play to stop social media from being a time-suck on your business!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • Why you should timeblock your personal and professional accounts on social media (and how I created an alter ego to manage mine)!
  • The reason I don’t recommend engaging with engagement pods
  • The time-saving benefits of filtering your communication with clients to specific platforms

I hope you find this episode engaging, and that you’ll give me a rating and review if you do! (I promise it won’t take too much time)!

“You can't build your empire with just yourself, it's not possible. You will either burn yourself out or you'll lose…hone in on the specialty and the unique qualities and services that you provide your clients. That's your focus. That's why you built your business.”

—Melissa Haddad

Sometimes you have to take a step back so you can move forward.

In order to scale and grow, there’s only so far you can carry every aspect of the business before you need to outsource help.

Letting go is hard. Control. Finances. Habits.

But just like the leap of faith you took with the first step on this journey, you’ll know when it’s time to let go — to trust yourself, the process, and others to care for your business.

If you’re not able to hire full-time help, outsourcing to a Virtual Assistant (VA), who will work remotely on your business for as many hours as you need or can afford, is the first step to hiring an in-house employee.

VAs can be highly specialized or provide general support. By trusting your VA to do some of the tasks you can afford to let go of or can’t afford to take time to learn to do, this means you can truly focus on working in your business rather than on it.

Melissa Haddad is the founder and owner of Efficient Business Solutions, which provides VA services and end-to-end business support for entrepreneurs.

She joins me on this episode of Strategize Your Business Online to share how, when and why you should hire a VA to help you build your vision and the life you want.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How end-to-end business support services can help to develop long-term business strategies based on your vision
  • Why LinkedIn is the place to be for B2B opportunities and connections as more companies shift to remote working
  • The benefits of hiring a VA to complete fractional work on areas of your business that may be confidential or unsuitable for current employees to take on

“Your website is your number one marketing tool… That does not mean that you need a $10,000 website, but you absolutely need an effective website in order to be properly representing your brand in the market.”

—Rachel Di

When 70-80% of consumers are checking you out online before buying, and making a decision in seconds, you need to make sure your website is secure, easy to navigate, and clearly conveys why your offer is the solution to your clients’ pain points.

If your website isn’t healthy and effective in its messaging — it’s not making money. Which means it’s time to invest in maintaining, optimizing and marketing your website!

Could you do this yourself? Absolutely. But unless this is your area of expertise, it will take time.

It’s sadly the case that women-led businesses are underfunded and unsupported, often run by women who also do the majority of work at home.

Rachel Di is the owner of women-led web design company Geek Unicorn, which helps to serve and scale women-led businesses so that you don’t have to take time (that you don’t have!) to learn what you don’t know!

Whatever your budget, Geek Unicorn has you covered with web design packages, training and a DIY resource library.

Rachel joins me on this episode to share her story AND the essential ingredients you need for a winning website formula...

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The importance of qualifying the right fit both ways — who does your process serve, and is your solution right for your client?
  • Why content on your blog has more longevity than social media posts, and how to utilize each blog post to build your email list (AND create multiple social media posts)
  • How to use SEO language strategically — your messaging and content needs to be written for a human being, not a computer, to connect with and convert people into clients!

Like many other business owners working in the online space, my first reaction was to panic! However, I soon realized that this was an opportunity to work on my business — rather than in it.

My team used the social media outage to review, refresh, and rework our social media strategy to align with platform trends and make sure we are engaging with our clients and providing what they need (and want).

From brainstorming alternative ways to show up online, updating our branding, and scheduling a day each week to switch off from socials and work going forward, this time was exactly what we needed to take a step back and refocus!

My business has grown and evolved so much in the last three years, and it was definitely time for a change! When was the last time that you devoted a day to working on your business?

Listen to this episode of Strategize Your Business Online to find out why you shouldn’t wait until the next social media outage to make time to work on your brand, content, and engagement strategy!

(And make sure you have a pen handy, because this episode is full of tips and tricks!)

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How to not only repurpose video content across your online platforms, from Facebook to LinkedIn, but why this is a great tool to show your personality and practice building up to live videos if you’re not comfortable in front of the camera
  • Why you should show up on socials a minimum of 20 times per month (on each of your platforms) and map your posting schedule using Google calendar
  • That inviting questions from your audience online allows you to shine as the go-to expert in your field, establishes trust to build relationships, and allows you to find out what your clients really want (in their own words)

Make time to subscribe to the podcast so you never miss another episode (and it only takes a few minutes to leave me a review and rating)!

“It all starts with an awareness and a desire to make change… Creating a business that has diversity within it is a choice.”

—Shelagh Cummins

Companies with diversity in their Board of Directors tend to make 3 to 4 times more revenue.

Would you be more inclined to trust, engage with, and support a company that you see yourself and values reflected in? Absolutely!

If you create a diverse experience, your online content will not only reach but connect with your audience — by creating a welcoming, safe space, you let your audience know you put people first.

On this special episode of Strategize Your Business Online, I’m joined by Shelagh Cummins, CEO and founder of The Road to Seven, offering coaching, training, and financing for women entrepreneurs, and host of The Road to Seven podcast.

We discuss the importance of creating diverse marketing and how you can start to implement change in your business today.

This can be as simple as making sure your imagery reflects different races, sexual orientations, religions, genders, ages, and abilities...

...and showing respect for the people you have worked with by allowing them to tell their stories — in their own words — through testimonials.

Representing your audience shows that you are willing to stand up — and speak up — for societal change.

And actively building a business that supports diversity, equality and inclusion is a choice. What will yours be?

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • That stock images are not helping you represent or reach your audience — or stand out on social media
  • Why active research should be part of your commitment to a diverse experience when organizing in-person and online events
  • How your onboarding process can help to promote diversity, equality, and inclusion when working with your clients

“My goal... was for me to download my brain and everything I've learned about freelancing into a program that could help set people up for success and help them avoid the mistakes I've made.”

—Jasmine Williams

Making the decision to become a full-time freelancer will always be daunting (without the extra risk and uncertainty caused by the pandemic).

This is the reason Jasmine Williams documented her journey from corporate employee to award-winning entrepreneur in her brilliant blog and newsletter.

As the CEO of content marketing consultancy Jasmine Williams Media, Jasmine uses strategic storytelling to scale industry-leading companies. But her passion is using her freelance freedom to help guide new and aspiring creative freelancers with her mentorship program and resources.

Catering to all budgets and needs, Jasmine offers free downloads (including a 10-step startup checklist), an essential grab-and-go email template package, and a six-week signature online course, Click-worthy Creative Academy.

In this episode of Strategize Your Business Online, Jasmine shares how, as an introvert, she struggled with confidence and positioning.

This is why she focuses on the emotional elements of freelancing (as well as legal, financial, and technical mentorship) in her resources. They are designed for you to do the work, building your confidence as you learn and grow your business.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • Why focusing on being present on social platforms that bring value and connections is more important than showing up on every single one — and why it’s important to step back when something isn’t working
  • Posting organic, unscripted, and authentic content on socials will often resonate with your audience more than polished text and graphics
  • That you must set boundaries with your clients (and how this relates to the discovery process)

“I knew that if I wanted my business to continue to be relevant at the end of all this, I needed to be present, I needed to show my value, and I needed to show where I shine as opposed to everyone else.”

—Clara Power

Planning your dream holiday can be super stressful, from making sense of slippery terms and conditions to now having to factor in pandemic protocols!

This is one of the reasons Clara Power, after a 20-year career in HR, used her globetrotting experience to create Power Travel.

Providing a tailored service that takes the stress out of planning family and multi-generational vacations (and specializing in dreamy Disney packages), Clara’s expertise ranges from guiding do-it-yourself vacationers through all the questions you wouldn’t even think to ask, to taking care of literally everything.

Her story shows that it’s never too late to realize your business dreams, but it’s also one of perseverance.

Tourism was one of the most severely affected sectors during the pandemic. Despiteher revenue decreasing by 95% over the past 18 months, Clara survived this period through determination, motivation — and online strategy!

To discover how Clara used social media to build trust with her clients as a go-to expert in her field, and ensured she was ready to move forward quickly when things began to open up — which wasn’t the case for some of her competitors — listen now!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • The importance of doing your market research to cover all the technical and insider knowledge needed to support your clients’ needs and become a go-to expert in your field
  • Why Instagram may be more profitable than Facebook (from a PR and sales perspective) in terms of opportunities, referrals, and direct clients

“In order to grow a business, you cannot do everything on your own!”

—Dee Boswell-Buck

You know all about the journey from employee to entrepreneur. It isn’t easy…

When you’re stealing time from your loved ones and yourself (self care) to make time for your business — it’s time to hire some help!

The truth is that your business won’t be sustainable if you carry on doing everything.

Though you may be ready to take your business to the next level and hire your dream team, making the leap of faith from entrepreneur to employer requires a complete mindshift makeover!

During the pandemic, I quickly realized that in order to be fully present in my business and at home, I couldn’t do everything myself anymore.

And neither can you! In order to grow a sustainable business, you’re going to need to grow your dream team!

In this episode of Strategize Your Business Online, I share my personal journey to hiring my first employee.

To learn how I reframed my mindset to overcome hiring challenges around time, money, and the fear of losing control — and when the best time to hire is — press play!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How to make growing your team more affordable (such as starting by hiring a part-time virtual assistant)
  • That seeking hiring help from a HR company will streamline (and strategize) the hiring process to find and build your dream team — and that the service will pay for itself in the time you save (that can be spent working with paying clients)!
  • How hiring a virtual assistant allowed me to move smaller and least-loved tasks off my to-do list so I could concentrate on building my business (and the things I enjoy)

Don’t waste any time in subscribing to the podcast, so you don’t miss another episode! (And every rating and review is greatly appreciated — and only takes a few minutes!)

“If you want to be productive, you have to be sustainable — and you can’t be sustainable and ignore your mental health.”

—Adam Wiseman

1 in 5 Canadians will experience mental illness at some point in their lives, and we all live with mental health challenges — in our personal and professional lives.

The pandemic has presented many extra mental challenges professionally, from a lack of boundaries as you work from home (or live at work!) to feeling isolated while physically distanced from loved ones and colleagues.

Adam Wiseman has 20 years’ experience working with adults with mental health issues and challenges across residential and professional settings.

After being admitted to hospital with work-induced stress, he founded Quality Mental Health Interventions (QMHI) Training and Consulting to help organizations implement mental health strategy and training in the workplace.

He joins me on the latest episode of Strategize Your Business Online to discuss making the business world more accessible and equitable for professionals with mental health challenges — especially in the time of Covid...

...including practices that you can start today — so that your relationships (with clients, colleagues, and yourself) are productive and healthy.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • ‘Covid keepers’ you should be incorporating into your personal and professional life to mitigate your psychological health (and ensure a sustainable work/life balance)
  • Why we should be focusing on a productive (rather than a positive) mental outlook — and tips for employers and entrepreneurs as we transition back into the workplace
  • How to set intentional and healthy boundaries with employers, employees, and clients to protect the things you value — your health, your time, and your business

“What if you could have a course that is preparing people to work with you one-on-one [and] generating leads... while also making money though you’re not actually showing up live to teach it?”

—Samantha King

It’s no wonder 20% of small businesses fail in their first year when it takes 3 to 4 years to become profitable.

You put so much into your business — money, time, sweat (and tears!) — and perfecting your brand, strategy, and offer can take a long time (especially if you wear all the hats)!

My guest on the latest episode of Strategize Your Business Online is here to help you reach your goals faster by sharing her success story…

...including how to package your skills, knowledge, and services in an online course that generates hands-free revenue by working on your business while you do!

A former teacher, Samantha knew she wanted to work in the online space but needed to figure out what she could offer — and how to reach ideal clients.

Today, she is an online course mentor and the CEO of Fempire Builders, helping business owners design courses that strategically generate leads and sales — establishing your authority so dream clients come to you.

Join us on the episode to find out how Samantha built and transitioned into her dream role and how you can do the same!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How market research through genuine online conversations with potential clients can shape your strategy and unique offer — and how reaching out to competitors can lead to collaborations
  • That figuring out the customer journey upfront means you can create a sales funnel from the course to the next offer

“The beauty of having your email list is that you can land in the inbox of your ideal client... [they] joined your email list because they wanted to.”

—Dee Boswell-Buck

Did the last business conference you attended, in-person or online, tick all your boxes?

My experience of business conferences designed for women entrepreneurs revealed a divide between the themes covered by women and male speakers.

While women consistently talked about topics like mindset, meditation, and strong pricing...

...male speakers focused on finances, strategy, and client acquisition.

Are all of the topics important? Absolutely! But the women-only conferences lacked the content — systems and strategies — I desired to build the business (and life) I wanted.

So I decided that I would help to empower women in these spaces… by creating my own conference!

“Strategize Your Business Online: Lessons From The Trenches” is my virtual, full-day conference for women in business, by women in business — without the fluff — on Thursday, September 28, 2021!

As a special sneak preview, this episode of Strategize Your Business Online shares how I grew my ideal audience for the conference by tripling my email list in just 8 months...

Press play to join me in the trenches for all of my tips and tricks to strategically reach your dream audience online!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • That segmenting your email list around specific services will curate content to reach and grow your ideal audience
  • How paid advertising can strategically land you in front of and connect you with more dream clients than attending an in-person networking event — for less than the price of an event ticket!

“Whatever we’re doing or making or creating, how will it affect the next generation?”

—Jenn Harper

Indigenous people make up 5% of the global population, yet protect 80% of the world’s ecosystems.

Jenn Harper created beauty brand Cheekbone Beauty because she was unable to see herself and the global Indigenous community represented across beauty marketing growing up.

Described as giving “Indigenous people a much-needed place to be seen,” her socially conscious brand focuses on educational marketing and (environmentally and community) sustainable systems to effect real change.

Jenn joins me on this episode of Strategize Your Business Online to showcase her beautiful philosophies and share her healing journey — from finding empowerment in reconnecting with her First Nations roots to creating a 6-figure beauty company (despite not coming from a beauty background)!

You started your business to make a difference, but what could you do differently in your business to effect change?

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • Why pushing yourself and your business to the limits by setting “impossible” goals (such as zero-waste packaging by 2023) leads to innovation!

“A business lawyer will be able to help you protect what you’ve already built and to look for opportunities in your business where you can leverage what you already have to grow the value of your business.”

—Andrea Henry

Can you read and write a contract?

Legal aid can be scary and overwhelming, and plenty of business lawyers will simply tell you where to sign — and not to worry about the details…

….but as a business owner, it’s our business to worry about the details to ensure we don’t lose any rights — or our business — through legal oversights!

A business lawyer for over 15 years and the founder of Henry Business Law, Andrea Henry has made it her mission to teach other women entrepreneurs what the legal jargon means — so you can make clear, well-informed decisions about your money, investment, and future.

Andrea joins me on this episode of Strategize Your Business Online to share how working with a business lawyer will protect every element of your business: your money (from insurance to investment to taxes), your relationships (crafting contracts that clearly tell the story of each), and your intellectual property (your zone-of-genius)!

No matter what your budget is, or where you are in your journey, Andrea’s templates, resources, and programs will help to ensure you’re fully protected!

“It’s not like you just dive in head-first. There’s a process to getting yourself acclimated with Clubhouse… People who are not so fond of public speaking get to speak without actually facing an in-person crowd.”

—Caryn Parchment

If home is where the heart is, then Caryn Parchment is definitely home! Caryn has been helping the local community to buy, rent, sell, or invest in property within the Greater Toronto Area for 15 years.

After taking the initiative to change her narrative and complete her Real Estate Licence, Caryn’s dream was delayed by Covid-19. Though she had doubts about her journey and end-goal, her perseverance is a lesson learned — she is now a fully licenced realtor.

When she isn’t finding dream deals for her clients, Caryn is a speaker and co-moderator on social media platform Clubhouse — an audio-based networking app that provides opportunities for people to speak or listen to other experts in themed rooms.

On this episode of Strategize Your Business Online, Caryn takes us on her entrepreneurial journey and leverages the benefits of using Clubhouse to build your network, leads, and following by strategically navigating the platform.

Clubhouse’s tiered system provides a process for you to engage, practice public speaking without the in-person crowd, and co-moderate rooms so you can be seen and grow your Clubhouse following...

…only when you’re ready! If you would rather just listen, that’s completely fine too! Even if you’re a complete beginner, Caryn has you covered with so many tips and tricks — join us on the episode for more!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • The Clubhouse feature that lets speakers know you’re new to the platform — in case you’re not ready to step onto the stage
  • Why you should only follow people with similar interests on Clubhouse, and not everyone you know, so you only see the topics you want to explore

“We’re pretty good at judging ourselves and doubting ourselves as women and mothers, and the mindset game is taking that mean girl in the background out of our heads... and dispelling some of those myths that we build up about ourselves.”
—Chernell Bartholomew

Habit change, consistency, and accountability are terms that you use regularly in your business strategy. But when was the last time you applied these terms to yourself?

With over 15 years’ experience in the health and wellness industry, Chernell Bartholomew is the owner of Vitality MVMT and a certified energy and health coach, personal trainer, and massage therapist.

After battling fatigue and struggling to maintain a healthy body and mindset when she became a mom to three beautiful girls, Chernell decided it was time to challenge and change the narrative when it came to unhealthy social and fitness standards.

Embracing all body shapes and sizes — one size does not fit all! — she created the Vitality MVMT to provide a ‘wholistic’ coaching approach catered to each individual woman and mom she helps.

Chernell joins me on this episode of Strategize Your Business online to share how the connection between mindset and physical wellness is your blueprint to a healthier mindset, life, and business.

For easy, doable, and actionable tips to create daily habits that stick, listen to the episode!

“Do you want to work for a company and be a number, or do you want to go out and be your own boss, do your own thing, and do what you love?”

—Sabrina Leeder

Whether you’re working your side-hustle or running your own business, you know that you don’t have to be a number — an unappreciated cog in the corporate machine — to make big numbers…

…but you do have to take a big risk and put in the work.

Sabrina Leeder is the Toronto-based founder of BiA Photography and a photographer for the Hockey Hall of Fame. A strong believer that art should be enjoyed by all, she is the Artist in Residence and owner of Preston Gallery in Uxbridge, Ontario — an accessible space for Canadian artists at any career level to showcase their work.

Sabrina knew the journey wouldn’t be easy when she took her father’s advice and decided not to be a number, but she didn’t anticipate that she would be forced to completely overhaul her brick-and-mortar business to an online shop when Covid-19 put our lives on lockdown.

Sabrina’s passion for art and belief in herself took her from pop-up to permanent photography gallery, but it was her social media strategy that grew her business — from showcasing a couple of local artists to hosting over 50 names! She met the challenges of changing every aspect of her business to not only survive, but thrive — with in-person shows, expansion to new regional spaces, and online and in-person classes planned.

Join us on this episode of Strategize Your Business Online, as Sabrina shares her story — a powerful reminder about the resilience we all must face as entrepreneurs — and the power of social media strategy to succeed even when the odds are stacked against you.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

  • How to get get creative with video content that serves a variety of audiences
  • Why you should automate your brick-and-mortar business to operate fully online as a back-up system to prepare for unforeseen obstacles

“I don’t want people to mute their voices and look like everyone else. We are all unique people and our businesses are unique, and I feel very strongly that we should have a unique voice — your images are part of that voice.”

—Trina Turl

Do your stock photos stand out AND speak to your audience?

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the perfect stock photo is priceless.

However, limited-edition stock photos are definitely NOT free!

Small businesses and early-stage entrepreneurs are often unable to access high-quality or unique stock photos, resorting to using free stock photos available to millions of people.

When you look like everyone else, you greatly dilute your brand, mute your voice, AND you definitely don’t stand out online!

I’m joined on this episode of Strategize Your Business Online by the founder and principal photographer of Clio & Fox boutique, Trina Turl, who creates a-la-carte stock imagery and curated social media packages across the food, wellness, and professional service industries.

With over 20 years’ experience, Trina’s passion is elevating small businesses with her beautiful, limited-edition stock photos that not only amplify your brand — but bring it to life.

Clio & Fox’s unique stock photos are licensed for web-based applications — so they are super user-friendly — and can be used as a banner on your website, on social media, or on slide decks.

Each unique photo on the site is limited to 100 licences. You may be one in a million as a person, but you don’t want your stock photos — and your brand visibility — to be one in a million!

You have a unique voice and business, and investing in unique photos is essential to increase your visibility online. Why? Press play!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌

✔ The power of repurposing unique stock photos for maximum visibility online

✔ How to shop for limited-edition stock photos using your brand colours and aesthetic

✔ Why Google Ads is a great way to grow your business and reach a new audience

“Retargeting to the right audience is essential if you want to see better conversions from your Facebook Ads.”

—Dee Boswell-Buck.

Do you keep coming back to a product or service you’re interested in before making the decision to purchase? I know I do! On average, it takes 7 to 12 touches before people make the commitment to buy.

So how do you make sure you’re top of mind for your target audience as a business owner online? You make sure you’re visible on the platforms where your audience is based. You share consistent content. And you invest in advertisements.

Facebook Ads Manager — which also operates on Facebook-owned platform Instagram — allows you to connect with hundreds of thousands of people each day, building your target audience and collecting data to track conversions to your website. However, consumer privacy laws are giving digital consumers more control over how their data is used online. An example is the recent iOS update, allowing Apple customers to choose not to share their data on platforms owned by third parties for advertising and measurement purposes — making it difficult to track conversions. Great for personal privacy, not great for business.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom! Business owners can still benefit from Facebook and Instagram Ads, but you just have to be creative — strategically, of course! How? You retarget your target audience.

Have you noticed that after liking, clicking on, or sharing something on social media, you start to see advertisements for similar things? This means you’ve been retargeted based on your engagement. In this episode of Strategize Your Business Online, I share several ways to creatively implement Facebook Ads to retarget your target audience on Facebook and Instagram, by engaging your prospects to create a business funnel using retargeting campaigns.

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

The ins and outs of retargeting and how (and why) it works.

How to create and run your own effective retargeting campaign.

The different forms of engagement on Facebook and Instagram that can be used to retarget.

“When it came to self-confidence, I realized that I was lacking in that area — when I interacted with the horses, I felt so empowered being with them… my vision was to invite other women to come and experience what I did.”

—Gabriella Vamvakidis.

When was the last time you felt truly peaceful, grounded, and connected to yourself? I bet you were offline.

As business owners, we rely on online spaces to support every aspect of our work. But spending so much time scrolling through feeds and updating our profiles means we often forget the therapeutic benefits outdoor spaces, animals, and nature provide. I’m joined on this episode by Copperwood Trail owner Gabriella Vamvakidis, who built her business to provide a safe space for people to reconnect with themselves by experiencing the healing power of horses.

Gabriella did not expect to fall in love with horses — let alone build a business around them with no model — but her journey as a business owner is full of relatable touchstones. When she moved with her family to a rural property in Stouffville, Ontario, she didn’t have any interest in her husband’s horses for two years. Until fate stepped in — the day she was left to care for the horses was the day everything changed.

The support, peace, and empowerment Gabriella felt from the animals inspired her to share that magical and therapeutic experience — specifically to inspire confidence in other women. From hosting women’s wellness retreats to expanding her program to family experiences and first responder therapy, Gabriella’s story shows that wellbeing and mindfulness are just as important as success. After you’ve listened to the episode, I hope that you’re inspired to step offline and go outside (at least for a little while)!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

How Gabriella created a business model (without using a model)!

Why Instagram has been Gabriella’s secret to success in reaching clients.

That you don’t need to post perfect photos online — consistency is key!

“My final day as an employee would also be the first one as a full-time entrepreneur… working toward living my best life.”

—Dee Boswell-Buck.

Are you thinking of turning your side hustle into a full-time gig?

I was where you are. To turn my side hustle into my main business, I had to overcome many obstacles while juggling motherhood, work, and school. So why did I do it? Because of my why.

After working for the same company for over 20 years, my life changed overnight when my daughter was born. However, I didn’t realize how much I had changed. Motherhood provided me with the time, space, and skills — founding, leading, and growing a parenting group — to realize that I wanted to work in social media marketing.

This was my first declaration of change, but my aspiration was realized through difficult decisions. On this episode of Strategize Your Business Online, I share my story — as told in the bestselling book, The Balancing ACT: The Quest for Work/Life Balance. A big part of my entrepreneurial journey has been documenting my story online, and I was so excited to join 11 other women entrepreneurs in guiding readers through our experiences in The Balancing ACT.

I’m going to be real with you. The road ahead will be rough. But if you hold yourself accountable, strategize your side hustle, and manage your goals, you can balance your work and private life to take your business from start-up to success. My story takes you through the personal and professional highs and lows on my path to becoming a small business owner. I hope it inspires you to ask yourself: What’s my WHY?

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

The tips and tricks I learned (the hard way!) to overcome business obstacles online.

How to strategize your side hustle to make it your full-time gig.

Why signing up with a business coach was my most valued investment.

“It’s always great to have a place, one spot, where you have all your information and it’s categorized, so that when you need to find it, it’s easier to find.”
—Arlene Williams.

Do you dream of running a clutter-free home and business, but keep getting lost in the mess?

Clutter causes stress. As entrepreneurs, we are constantly juggling clients, paperwork, and life. Despite best efforts, when our systems lose structure, the clutter can easily become overwhelming. Making your spaces and systems clutter-free brings inner calm, efficiency, and increased productivity, so you have more time for what really matters.

But how do you clean up your clutter without falling into the same mistakes again? By developing consistent and manageable organizational strategies for your home and business — and peace of mind.

My guest on this episode of Strategize Your Business Online is professional organizer and owner of Bona Fide Organizing, Arlene Williams. Arlene leveraged her organizational skills to build a company that uses creative systems to bring efficiency and functionality to businesses.

A passionate advocate for mental health and wellbeing, Arlene helps individuals limit the stress that clutter causes so they can focus on living and working in a peaceful, productive, and organized environment.

Full disclosure: I was absolutely this individual — I hired Arlene to hold me accountable and help to clean up my clutter, and I have never looked back! Here’s one of the crucial things I’ve learned: integrating consistent and simple structures into your routine allows you to create productive habits and focus on pushing your (super organized!) business forward — while also making sure you’re looking after your mental health and wellbeing.

—Dee Boswell-Buck

As entrepreneurs, we know we need a strong online presence in order to succeed. We invest in expensive websites, set up email marketing, and join social media platforms.

But once we start posting on social media, we often forget to drive our audiences to our websites and mailing lists.

If you want to use social media effectively, you need to see it as a strategic tool, rather than just a popularity contest.

“When you focus on growing your email list strategically, you will have the right audience who are interested in learning more.”

—Dee Boswell-Buck

Do you find growing your email list challenging around the day-to-day running of your business?

We tend to rely on social media to stay connected to our prospects. It can be difficult to build an email list with the right people, but it’s integral to growing your business and connecting with your target audience.

Though I apply strategic online measures for my clients, full disclosure: I wasn’t always putting time aside to work on my business, as opposed to working in my business.

2021 is my year to focus on strategically building my email list — will it be yours?

I initially grew my email list the old-fashioned way by attending networking events. I overthought the process, using giveaways as an incentive. This led people to join my email list for the wrong reasons, so they weren’t likely to reach out for my services!

You need the right people on your list. It should be tailored to your ideal customer, the person who wants to know more about your offers — and has a genuine need for them!

In this episode, I share how I became more intentional when it came to focusing and growing my email list. It will involve strategy, but I promise it won’t be too overwhelming. You might even enjoy it!

In‌ ‌this‌ ‌episode,‌ ‌you’ll discover:‌ ‌

  • How I went from creating old-school email lists to strategically focusing on ideal clients
  • The digital initiatives I incorporate into my monthly list-building campaigns — and why they work so well
  • How to grow your list using targeted ads (no matter what your budget is!)

—Dee Boswell-Buck

Are you on LinkedIn? The world’s largest professional network has more than 660 million users worldwide… so you need to stand out in order to get noticed.

Over 50% of all social media traffic to websites and blogs comes from LinkedIn. Whether you’re B2B or B2C, LinkedIn is the place to be.

Solopreneurs and small business owners rely on networking to engage and connect with clients and collaborators. Digital marketing strategy is more important than ever right now, as we can’t rely on attending events.

“Your audience? They are not on ONE platform… I challenge you to take a deeper dive into where your audience spends their time online .”

— Dee Boswell-Buck

On March 19th, 2021, Instagram went down for an hour. In March 2019, both Facebook and Instagram went down for over 24 hours.

The big question: what effect did this have on small businesses and entrepreneurs?

Let’s talk about the perils of putting all of our marketing eggs into one basket. How many platforms are you finding engagement on?

If you are a small business owner who has maybe gotten a little too comfortable using just one platform and are curious to know about how other platforms online can increase your visibility and boost your sales, then this episode is for you!

You don’t have to have an account on every single platform, don’t worry. But I do recommend that all business owners and entrepreneurs should be using at least two different platforms to market their business — and ideally platforms that are not owned by the same company.

You may think that your audience only hangs out on one platform, but that is almost never the case. Broadening your use of social media and building a presence on two or more platforms will not only help you continue your marketing during the next outage, but reach new prospects that you would have missed otherwise!

For instance, you’ll find me on Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest.

Remember: don't believe the hype. Your audience IS on more than one platform. As we speak, people are searching for what you do on Google and on their preferred social media.

So, let’s give them something to tweet about!

In this episode, I look at optimizing your use of social media, Google My Business, Facebook Ads, and your email list. And I even share an example of the remarkable marketing success of a client who doesn't have a real website!

It’s all starting now, so press play and get ready to discover:‌ ‌

  • Effective CTAs that drive your followers to connect to you on AND off of your socials
  • When it may be time for you to start investing in Google or social media ads
  • How Google My Business can help you meet your business goals
