Because New Orleans had such great success with Mardi Gra, there was a festival designed for Houston. The Notsouh Festival. Notsouh is Houston spelled backward. For almost twenty years it was a successful event.

Before Texas gained independence from Mexico, the people of Gonzales asked the Mexican Government for a cannon so they could provide protection for their community. General Santa Ana loaned them a cannon, with the agreement they would give it back upon request. That didn’t happen.
