Poem: "You've changed"

One day, someone will say “You’ve changed.”

Smile back, eye to eye,

pause as their pupils mirror back the new iteration.

Shake their hand, send your thanks.

Be on your way.

Of course you changed.

They have too. Those words were new.

An envelope set on fire would have housed them better,

But they were impatient.

Impatient to catch up.

Impatient to wait.

You ran away from person I first met.

You found another version of you.

One you liked better.

You gave them new shoes, new eyes,

and a new voice.

You ran further. Needed another upgrade.

The software outdated.

I want to meet the next change.

The moment you become stagnant,

Is the moment you change for worse.

I hope you change.

Time and time again.

With the seasons,

with your adventures,

With every run.

Poem: Drizzling.

I like how small my eyes are on Sunday mornings.

I like running long.

I like eating three crumpets,

peanut butter and honey becoming friends.

I like the coffee before my run,

and certainly after.

I like wearing gloves, and holding yours.

I like taking them off before jumping in the shower,

slowly soaked from light drizzling.

Sunday is a drizzle.

The way I run.

The way I do spoon my honey.

The way my eyes slowly open.

the way you walk down the street after a long shower.

Drizzling on a Sunday,

making a mark,

like croissant flakes on my plate.

Poem: Copy cat.

If you haven't sat here and daydreamed,

If you didn't swim in this pool and marvel at the fish,

If you hadn't forgot your pen and let sweat stain your journal,

You will never wear the same clothes.

The fabric won't recognise your skin.

The laundry won't know how to wash.

The clouds will stop working, confused by the sun.

I watch the autumn leaves dance,

reds and oranges fill my mind like orange juice in portugal,

but you don't know that,

white walls and office ceilings,

make a funny moodboard.

tell me my friends coffee order,

you forgot the honey, and got the size wrong.

honey on the table,

honey on my mind

honey in the fabric

tapestry.

I've hidden notes

on rocks,

on trees

on beaches

on humans

and you tried to copy me,

because you found one.

Poem: Doubts

Voices bounced off the waves

hit the sky, came through the phone line

Where are they coming from?

I'll build my own sky and paint it too.

The ocean is wide enough

my boat is small, and your sails angle differently

leave me to my path,

let me choose how fast I want the clock to move

I'll work till dark with my ideas

your doubts deserve a chest,

locked away and sunk to the bottom of the ocean.

the dial of my creativity

the switch of my decisions

the tap of my experiences

moves with my fingers.

I will remember what you say,

and i will move to the quieter parts of the ocean,

where the sun is uninterrupted

and your doubts don't interfere with path.

Rental inspections.

Winning.

You're scared of winning,

because a part of you dies.

It gets left behind with the memories,

gathers dust with old routines, and easy habits.

You're not scared of holding a trophy,

and you know it's easy to cross the line.

You're scared of the new,

you're scared of who you might become.

Becoming someone you haven't met,

and forever leaving the old.

There is no going back,

there is no turning around.

They'll talk differently to you,

and you will reply with words you haven't used before.

Winning is a foreign tongue.

You're scared they won't talk to you.

You're scared they'll judge you.

It's not winning you're scared of.

It's you.

"Gerberas"

I hung my flowers upside

They couldn’t stand tall on their own

Heavy headed the hung their heads,

Falling over, they needed braces.

What they needed was an embrace

Wire necked, hold tall, make your call.

Too many thoughts in their petals

Didn’t know what to do with them.

We don’t know what to do with the heavy headed

The ones with too many thoughts, too many petals

Too much life in their veins, too much water in their bud.

Unfair, they didn’t pick this design.

Pick the flowers that stand tall,

They won’t tell you what’s important

Wire up the stem, everyone needs guidance

Some flowers choose to ask for it

Instead I hung them upside down

I thought they looked pretty the wrong way round

Maybe that’s what they’re meant to do

Yet I bought them in cardboard

That’s not their home,

Tell me what flowers you want on the throne

I want ones which stand tall

even when they’re upside down.

"Next doesn't need a question"

You worried so much about what your next run was

you forgot what you were doing now.

And I hate that.

I want you here,

not there.

Next steals everything that's here

and refunds you something you're not happy with.

Something I'm not happy with.

You're next race.

Race it upon arrival

not before

You're next move.

Move it in the moment.

Next does not need a question

because it doesn't exist,

till it's gone.

Josh's Poem:

Ocean rumbles into the night, I fall asleep.

My skin turns, white to brown, Portuguese sun whispers.

Old man, eighty one, holds a five mile stare.

I miss you, eight letters, an envelope rips open.

A surfer falls into the wave, no-one hears the scream.

Wine glasses clink at sunset, it wakes the moon from slumber.

Quitting slices the dream, a coin drops into the well.

Messages of support, kindness knows who to tell.

Old times in present days, time is listening now.

Thursday can't come quick enough,

he wishes he was with her.

Cards spin as the hit the table, give me the ace.

A world away, everyone wants their space.

In the shadows, the kids play, the kids play.

The first hour, saw you in the garden.

The late hours, saw you smiling and giggling.

We must be the child, the one in the shade.

The louder the world gets, the sharper we feel the blade.

Be quiet with me, underneath the stars

I want to sit with you,

and feel,

the quietest shade of loud.

Poem one read by Josh

"8:49pm" The Night Before:

I feel numb

Because I know I’m about to feel so much.

My body knows.

My brain wants all the answers but my body will do the work.

I’ve had tears behind my eyes,

Waiting to fall but holding on.

I know they’ll come out.

Somehow I’m protected.

The way everyone talks,

They know something big is about go down.

Something bigger than me.

I’m in prayers.

I’m in thoughts.

These are not small.

Well wishes are wonderful,

But these wishes have weight.

I hope to do them proud.

I hope to do me proud.

This is a war of heart.

Play smart,

Play to life,

Because this is life.

Poem: "He Is Not A God"

I am not religious.

There is a distance between them and I

an eternity it feels,

I want to close the gap

in this lifetime,

They did this in the same years as me,

They built a god from the same factory.

We are mechanics, and I want a machine.

If he existed, so can I.

I hate being relatable,

but right now I need something to relate to.

Hope grows on the fuel of relating,

gods grow from being unrelatable.

Yet they never were.

Boring. Same old.

Day in day out.

Special isn't a word to describe.

They built machines. They built the mechanics, too.

So make me a mechanic.

Make me a stone mason.

Make me a carpenter.

Make me a scientist.

Make me boring.

Gods are boring

because they did the boring work

Here I am,

flittering about in the ocean

this is not where they exist.

Angels and gods are not friends.

All I need to know.

All that stuck with me,

He is not a god.

I will carry that.

And with that,

I may beat him

because a god is unbeatable

but a human is not

and that is all you need to know.

You can beat him

because he is human.

He is not a god.

Poem: I will not be lost.

There is a man below attending to the potatoes,

There is a woman above, she lost her footing.

A man in the hospital waits to greet me with a smile,

The family laughs at my expense. I laugh. It's contagious.

Too far from home, I lost count of the miles.

The counting never stopped. It mustn't stop.

The moment the count stops, I'll be lost.

I see it all the time. Lost people. In a lost world.

Watching motorbikes defy gravity, 10 inches from death.

Windy roads, brakes that work, most the time.

At least when I need them. That's all that matters.

The ocean never stops talking to me.

I keep staring at the horizon, are you on the other side?

There is a dozen sides, I hope you're on the one I'm looking at.

I never knew my north from east, nothing goes south.

I'm looking for west, for wins, for wonder.

She calls. Twice in the morning. She's sweet.

"Is Pasta, okay?" Mr Man, of course it is.

He calls, once in the evening. Assuring the dream is alive.

She misses me in the evening. She's over the horizon.

He walks with a limp now. The strongest man I know.

Are his days ever dark? They must be.

Every sunset turns to dark. The sky never sleeps there.

These two legs of mine. Remind me of everything.

I keep stumbling. Guessing. Falling.

The path isn't clear. I can't see the path.

I returned their map. I'm drawing my own.

I'm not lost. Because I can't be.

The most beautiful thing I heard,

was from a man I admired.

He talked of life and said,

"the magic is not lost on me."

I went on, knowing, living.

i'll never be lost. I can't be.

It is not lost on me.

It is not lost on me.

The magic, the love, the effort,

the enduring, the hardship,

the goodluck, the trying, the care.

All of this, is not lost on me.

Poem one: "Carve yourself to stone"

Carve yourself to stone,

Work away into the dust

And come back tomorrow

You will blunt all that sharpens you

Please return inspired

Because the sword needs the stone

Without it

You will remain rounded to the world

No cut through

Rolling with the crowd

Missing opportunity

Because you were scared to hold something sharp

Let yourself carve

Into the dust. - JL

Poem Two: Sardine Can

Jammed in a tin can,

My family are below,

Stripping flowers, walking dogs, staring at screens.

Me and 400 sardines,

Staring at screens, wishing I could send flowers, needing water.

As above, so below.

I’m up here, they wouldn’t even know.

I’m so far away, and going further.

Now I’m in the ocean.

Not in it, not on it, above it. I’m not above them.

I just see things differently.

All these planes, I think they did that to me.

I’m a sardine bouncing between tin cans.

Some would do anything to be a sardine

I must remember that.1

4 hours in a tin can,

Is a small price to pay.

Poem Three: Missing You.

I want to miss you whilst you’re in my arms,

So when you’re not,

I’ve done the missing.

You won’t be missing.

You’ll be there,

In my arms.

You won’t be there,

You won’t be missing.

We don’t miss what we have,

But I want to miss you,

When I have you.

My arms want to miss you twice.

That way, you’ll know what I felt

All the times I missed you.

And maybe I’ll never miss you again.

Because I did all the missing.

But it doesn’t work like that.

I’ll always miss you,

Till you’re back in my arms.

Poem:

Tell Me Jimmy - Josh Lynott

"But maybe we could take the strengths of each other", Jimmy said to me.

Our lives spun in different directions, yet orbited the same axis. Relaxation juxtaposed with chaos, two unlikely friends.

Tell me Jimmy, of what stability looks like and I'll tell what you freedom feels like.

Coffee in Hawaii today and Portugal tomorrow, two beds and four planes.

Tell me what it to have a wife and a home, not a house, but a home.

The grass isn't greener, it's a different variety.

But I know one thing,

both of us must obsess over living.

Poem Two - Read and written by Louis Stenmark

Deep Regret, Don’t you fret

We’ve all been there before

Mindset, don’t let

Your thoughts dictate the score

Paths of life Who’ll be my wife

Where do I spend my time

Fear worries goals and dreams

Regret is the ultimate crime

Embarrassment

Deep resent

Let me rest my eyes

Shoulds and oughts Bad thoughts

Please find a new disguise

Don’t fear, it’s near, no not your demise

In hale, exhale

The sleep captures you by surprise.

The soul has a colour, just like the heart of a sunset.

Resistance has a body, just like the ridge lines of a mountain.

Movement has an art form, just like the strokes of Picasso.

Our desire has an agenda, just like a rip in the ocean.

Curiosity has a face, just like clouds you make shapes from.

Everything you are, can be found in the different shapes of life around you.

Amidst the complexities of life, and beyond the reductionist attempts to understand it - you, me, and the life around us, we aren't too dissimilar. - JL

Poem:

Power to the words you all wished to talk,

power to the delivery and the way you walk.

there comes a time, when the mirror is the mind

you say what you want, even if you're leading blind.

I get it, I see it

but very few do it

this takes heart,

to steer clear

from the line on the chart.

Do what you love and it'll all be okay,

easier said, harder to put into play

but what if you do and the world pays attention

someone will whisper, always live with intention

Stand up, show your face, show your paper

thoughts left in shadow, soon turn to vapour.

Here you go, let it out, you are not alone

Let me tell you, there is power to the poem.

Poem One: "A place we all have in mind" - Josh Lynott

There is a place we all have in mind, somewhere we want to go.

A place that makes sense, that holds the pieces of the puzzle that matches our edges.

There are places we want to go with certain people, because they know the feeling too.

There are roads we wish that never ended, and songs that could a play a little longer; maybe an extra chorus.

I know there are places you want to go, because I have places that I dream of going too.

These places, to you and I, they look different but I know that the feeling is similar.

There is a place that waits for you, because it owns a part of you that you haven't seen yet.

This place isn't a land to get lost, or a space to find answers, but a grounding to be.

There is a place we all have in mind, somewhere I hope you go.

Poem Two - Mikey Conlon

Although my mind wallows in worlds of pain

I know the face of peace will arrive to me

In the hills

In silence

Smelling the flowers and singing with the birds

Doubt will be a thing of the past

And the new day will be cheerful, not concerned.

Poem:

"Dressed in gold." - Josh Lynott

It is said that before hitting the mountains,

the last light ray of sunset stops to smile.

For it knows all the colours it has been,

and the people that watched in awe,

hoping one day they might dress in gold too.

Waiting is the mountain,

beaten, rugged, and covered in stone

but it waits softly

for it will hold the golden gown of the last sunbeam.

Everyone needs a place to undress,

because there is no weight heavier than colour.

Every day new colours appear,

the spectrum is too wide to see.

The last light ray needs a home on the mountain

side because only tomorrow will it journey from blue to gold, and back again.

At day’s end, we're all dressed in gold in someones eyes,

someone's our mountain to hold.

One Thousand Swords - Josh Lynott

I took one thousand swords

to my one thousand hearts

yet one kept beating

it grew bigger

as yours stopped.

What if I only had one heart?

and took one sword.

Would you have died twice?

Now, (Then)

And when I moved on?

It is not pain I crave,

or to feel twice alive

for you and for me.

It is for courage,

to be sharpened and carved.

into something the world has not seen.

I only hope they

see, what I did.

Feel, What I have.

The Mirror - Erika Geraerts

I've seen a lot of it

and it's seen a lot of me

me at my best

me at my worst

at my lowest

my highest

afraid, lost, shocked,

excited, dreaming, scheming

alone

with friends

in love

heartbroken

over years, through many tears

celebrations, contemplations

it's seen me and remained

it's seen me and stayed

it's never said much other than

I'm here

all at once I feel so big and so small

the mirror shows me it all

I've seen a lot of it

and it's seen a lot of me.

Messy edge by Josh Lynott.

I want to mix colours, yours and mine.

Some days I'll be a mess.

You will too.

There will be days when the paint spills,

over

over

over

the edge.

You can't put spilled paint back together.

It's forever a mess.

If I fall into one thousand pieces,

let me be mosaic.

I'm scared of this place,

because I don't know who I'll be.

I'm excited for this place,

because of who I can be.

Paint with me, till the messy edge.

POEM: I fell asleep next to avalanches. I fell asleep next to rivers. If the mountains judge me, let them. I probably should sleep in safer places. If the river bulges and it laughs at me, I'll try and laugh with it. I hope to be more like the mountains that chose not to judge me when I slept in precarious places. I hope to be like the rivers that did not judge me when I slept in flood-risk areas. The world is kinder on us than we are on ourselves. We, like nature, are often kinder on others actions than we are on our own. Look at your ideas, your thoughts, and actions - they may feel like avalanches.. but the mountain is not any smaller.

POEM: Make space. - Josh Lynott

You mentioned it yesterday, I booked it tonight.

The plane took off, I landed before the flight.

A squeeze on time, a leap into the wind

Time is best balanced, whilst dancing on a whim.

You're stuck in a cell, with four tiny walls.

A21, Monday, at eleven hundred you have three calls.

These people, these places, building your tower

I don't want to live here, stop taking my power.

Make a move they won't guess.

Can't guess!

Shouldn't guess.

Get under their skin

Like a game of chess.

I have time, you have time.

I use mine, and you spend yours.

This isn't a job, and you think it's a game.

I'm losing, I'm losing, I'm losing.

I'm sorry you chased fame.

Bend the rules, stop the clock.

You can't stop the clock, so why did you try?

You wanted more time. That's right.

Now you see the value,

it's so sweet and bright.

This isn't a poem, because I don't know the rules.

I was meant to be in a meeting,

but I'm writing these lines.

Will they care if I go

or miss the show?

They won't. Nobody does.

Until somebody does. So what do you do?

Make space, but don't build a cell.

Magic only enters, in a place with no spells.

Journal Prompt: What are you going to set fire to this year?

POEM: It's not pretty, it's not easy. - Josh Lynott

It's not pretty. It's not easy.

This wire we walk. The game we talk.

Stretched thin, standing tall.

You've got it all together. Do I?

Who are you to say? Why do you say that?

You haven't woken up here.

Thinking the same thing for 6 months straight.

If you could see what I see now.

You would have stopped along time ago.

I know your type.

You play it safe, for the straight score.

You want the backboard but not the net.

You want the poems but not the knot in your throat.

I've talked to you time and time again.

You're holding onto something, but it's attached to a kite.

The trouble isn't in the sky, it's in the wire.

One day it'll snap, and you'll realise.

You missed the chance to fly.

Tell me when you're down and out.

And I'll show you there is so much more.

A step, a pivot, anything, everything.

Change the wire, change the way you walk.

If you change the wire, you change your mind.

The mind isn't you; it's the place you go to.

It's your place of safety, that's what you were told.

Then it betrayed you, you thought you lied.

But you didn't. You walked the line.

For the first time, you took fire to your heart.

Of course it hurt. It burned.

It wasn't pretty, it wasn't easy.

Tell me more of the wire you walk.

Tell me more of the fire you talk.

Tell me stretched thin, how long you have.

Tell me standing tall, that you should have.

"ILIVEFAST, BUTI'MBOREDOFIT"

I live fast, but I'm bored of it. I'm bored of the way it strips character out of everything. Look at cars.. vintage ones. When did we lose so much style? I've never lived in a time when hand-written letters took months to arrive.Sometimes I wish I did. Maybe, those words would mean more. All of a sudden I started to like winter. I could make soups again.Dipping bread whilst waiting for the soup to cool down, slowed me down.Fast is fun. I get it. You can do a lot in a day. A lot in a life. But I'm sure there's a lot of time to do a lot of slow things. I want to enjoy more cut-throat shaves and talk to the barber. Or what about hand-made Gnocci? I know it will take me three hours.Isn't the inefficiency of that the most beautiful thing in the world? The irony is my muse. We try to live fast so we're not bored. Instead, we become bored of things quicker. I'll ask some of my friends a question and they'll reply a week later.I cherish that. Think deeper. Challenge it. Test it.Planes are incredible. Yet I still feel like I'm teleporting everywhere.Have you ever cycled a really really really long way?Human power. Leg power. Power of your own heart and lungs. It's a terrific thing to try once in your life. I want to go fast when the sunset disappears.Finding my flow state down rocky trails I might fall on. Until then, I want to enjoy the hike and make tea at the top.I like the idea of being boring, but in the way you think.I want to be boring because I didn't get distracted and let my coffee go cold.I want to be boring because I have the ability to stare out the window for 3 hours.I want to be boring so I don't pick up my phone during a long game of cards.I want to have a conversation, one that's not boring. - JL

"introduce yourself"

Call me jaguar, beachgrass, wild one - no shoes.

Call me sunflower, hairy legs, burning sun, chamomile.

That old passion fruit vine. Call me honey, home, warm sourdough, skinny, such a dreamer boy. Call me crook, selfish, stealing hands, an unfinished tea. Call me nomadic. Call me short of time, unroutined, outstanding, big brother, athletic, someone’s smile.

Call me king of trails. Call me halcyon or moonstone.

5am, that strike of golden light. Calm and cozy, call me redwoods, Kuitpo, anything that sounds like the forest.

Call me emotional and overthinking, dahl and dazed.

Call me Wednesday to tell me you’re coming. Call me heart racing, paint stained, daydreaming.

POEMS: By Josh Lynott

Rocket fuel is what I call it.

Liquid to take me from here to space.

Rocket fuel is the reason,

I no longer forget to double-knot my lace.

Sitting amongst tall books, my pen plays today.

Whatever the task, rocket fuel encourages play.

Oh life is fast, a blur to discern.

And friends will teach you all there is to learn.

And thought is thought, it's always my turn.

But rocket fuel

always

burns.

Rocket fuels always pouring,

cos' the world won't stop the flow.

Into a glass, a mug, any container

to keep us on the go.

And it sometimes likes to comeback twice

And a little too much, a dangerous vice.

Oh, rocket fuel is clever, clever in routine.

And friends like to drink it before seven eighteen.

And thought is thought, I try to keep clean.

But rocket fuel always wanders.

Rocket Fuels as brave as volcanoes, toiling in the dark.

Rocket Fuels as brave as tsunamis, about to leave their mark.

Rocket Fuel's brave as storms. It never, ever sobs.

Except (like the rest), when they forget to pray to the gods.

Oh, Rocket Fuel is Rocket Fuel,

it's a rocket fuel kind of day.

And friends are friends, here to stay.

And thought is thought, choose your way.

But rocket fuel,alwaysconnects.

Rocket Fuel isn't bothered, but it does like to wonder.

So I have to say, what does it make you ponder?

Oh, Rocket Fuel wants a table, so could you find a napkin?

And then I know, wisdom needs something to be wrapped in.

Well, I'm very fond of Rocket Fuel, for it holds some power.

And I've very fond of friends, and those who take long showers.

And I'm often observing thought, when it wants to turn sour.

But Rocket Fuel's always Rocket Fuel,to call upon at any hour.

Click. The sound of a shutter on an old camera.

My Dad's camera. It's looked at the world through two sets of eyes.

Click. The sound of a chef, impatient for the waiter.

My favourite restaurant. It moves the world one plate at a time.

Crackle. The sound of fire, wood burning slowly to warm my hands. A fire place. A vinyl player for the songs of trees cut down.

Crackle. The sound of sage leaves burning in a pan of hot olive oil. A new dish. A thank you to all those who make my life a home.

Softness. The sound of a shower running over skin.

An outdoor shower. A place to let your thoughts be clouds. Softness. The sound of balm moving along dried lips.

An act of care. Because lips see what the eyes don't.

Slam. The sound of a car door, a place I've never been.

Back beach. Turbulent one day, a sanctuary the next.

Slam. The sound of an airplane landing. Far away.

Distance. A medium which strengthens, choose your metric.

Silence. The sound of a stare with loud thoughts.

Eye contact. The absence of noise sings the melody of unspoken words.

Silence. The sound of evening car drives, with music blaring. Instrumental. A soundtrack to real life, actual life.

In Mid-December

By the fire,

in mid-December, rain soundtracks.

Crackle and patter, melting butter.

An unlikely pair, in mid-December.

It knows me, perhaps better than I?

Who is it? What is it?

Something bigger than me.

It knows slow, something I must go.

I try.

I've missed phone calls, emails,

and sent the wrong letters. It's okay.

The fire will burn, and so will I.

The drain is loud, my brain too, at this time of year.

Summer misses me,

I can't say the same.

Like droplets of truffle oil on tonight's risotto,

I will soak in.

By the fire,

in mid-December, I giggle and laugh.

My eyelids are heavy, risotto.

An unlikely pair, in mid-December.

POEMS: By Josh Lynott

WHO ARE YOU WHEN YOU'RE TIRED:

When you're tired and your brain loses colour,

Who are you?

You're not the person you were when you woke up,

and definitely not who you were yesterday.

Who are you?

You once held space for more pain, not today.

The cold bites harder, the heat wears you down.

Who are you?

Does your view of the world change when you're tired?

A smile, a lift of the cheek, show you're still here.

Head down, back against the wall.

Who are you?

A great expression, reduced to a full stop.

Who are you?

Count to four, count to six, count to ten.

Do it again.

Are you numbers when you're tired?

Who are you?

Who is the person you want to talk to when you're tired?

Where do you want to sleep tonight?

Who are you?

Is this version of you, the one you know?

A shadow, a juxtaposition, a riddle you don't understand.

Who are you?

When you're tired. When I'm tired.

This is a version of you.

I'd like to know.

POEM TWO: It's not real.

It's not real,

but this is.

It's not real,

but you are.

POEMS: "If the world goes mad"

If the world goes mad,

hold true to your heart.

Stick to what you love,

and you'll do your part.

If the world goes mad,

do it because you can.

A world that knows your mind,

is better meeting your kind.

If the world goes mad,

and you can't keep up.

Put your feet in the sand,

sometimes it's better you stop.

If the world goes mad,

don't be fooled if they call you crazy.

There is plenty to do,

we both know you're not lazy.

If the world goes mad,

you don't have to join the party.

There is someone else out there,

who knows you care.

If the world goes mad,

There is always someone to look up.

Believe it or not,

that person will always be you.

POEMS: "One day you won't - Josh Lynott

I admire the man who says I will

Even at short, if it's for the cheap thrill.

I admire the lady, who says I will,

Even at long, with chances close to nill.

Get lost, go up, and think you're down.

You're still better off in the wrong town.

Find your way, think you're right, end up left

You're still better than handing time to the theft.

Honey is sweet, when the jars in your hand.

Never sweeter, when the bees from a foreign land.

No bee stings a person who sits with the pollen,

A life planting flowers, is something uncommon.

What happens when your will turns to won't,

are you scared of the day your 'dos' become don't?

Heavy legs, a tired brain, and the luxury of comfort

puts an end to your days feeling triumphant.

Make your heart rigid, put an axe through your soul.

The power of won't, quickly builds an irrefutable toll.

If you choose to waltz, put your foot forward

Say I will, keep dancing, no matter how awkward.

I admire the lady who says I will,

I admire the man who won't accept nill.

Do it before you don't,

because one day you won't.

POEM TWO

"This poem is brought to you from down under"

Written by Bryan Buttigieg, and read by Josh Lynott.

hey mate, give a listen to the Josh Lynott project

asking the questions to make you think and reflect

check in on the mindset

sometimes all you need is to press the button, to reset

take a chance, open your world to strangers

a risk that provides what you seek, worth the wagers

share a familiar tune, play that Zach Bryan song Sara's place,

there's much more to gain from running, than a race

take risk,

the pace of your life doesn't need to be brisk

go slow,

that extra time allows you to fully grow

the doors will open for the right opportunity,

there's something special about finding your community

stay with it, stay present

accept what has happened there’s no need to repent

speak your dreams into the world, manifest

the universe will deliver someday, making you feel truly blessed

maintain your youth, drink from the fountain

spend some time in nature, among the mountain

do what you love

continue to create, build, dream, expand the mind and what you think of

you are a poem

put it all out there, don't be afraid to show 'em

it's the little things, the 1-percent

that'll stick in your mind and heart like cement

paths redirected, it may take some time to have the clarity and realization

now you’re fully diving into life, reaching a state of elation

speak clear of your intention

control what you can, learn to let go, not everything is meant for retention

never lose that childlike wonder

this poem is brought to you from down under

remember that the world becomes cruel when it's filled with spite

while you're here try out a fresh sourdough with some butter and Vegemite

POEMS:

"Out of order" - Josh Lynott

I jumped in the shower before I ran today,

And had dessert before dinner.

My umbrella stood up after the sun went down,

And I tanned under the evening streetlights.

I tried to draw lines in the sky before the stars came out

And crossed the road before the lights went green.

Life isn’t always ordered how we think it should be,

maybe it’s not worth wishing to have it any other way.

Life’s most precious moments wouldn’t occur,

maybe we’d miss the moments that caused a stir.

It’s the in-between moments that matter the most,

An absolute must to cherish those we hold close.

It’s worth taking a risk to feel excited,

Because a life lived in order isn’t what I decided.

POEM TWO

Timekeeper by Mitch Albom, read by Justin Stals

“Try to imagine a life without timekeeping. You probably can’t. You know the month, the year, the day of the week. There is a clock on your wall or the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner or a movie. Yet all around you, timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late. A dog does not check its watch. Deer do not fret over passing birthdays. an alone measures time. Man alone chimes the hour. And, because of this, man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of time running out.”

POEM: "Wishing Well" - Josh Lynott

I like making wishes.

I don't mind where I store them.

There hidden in my journals, letters, and hung to stars I can't see.

I've wished on you, I've wished on me.

The magic is in the wish, not the cupboard it's stored in.

Wishes don't live at the bottom of the well,

They dance in the idea you hope to tell.

Tell me more about the word you're scared to spell.

I look for numbers on the clock three times a day.

one one one, four four four, eleven eleven.

I see them on number plates

and letterboxes I walk by.

Wishes are the only religion that pulls the world together,

Every time we make one, we hope things get a little better.

Not all wishes come true,

They're simply a guiding star to walk to.

I don't want to leave my soul in the wishing well,

I don't want to leave my heart hanging to a star.

I'll throw my coins, I'll watch the clock.

This life and my wishes are all I've got.

POEM: "Write more letters" - Josh Lynott

Write more letters. Not because it would be a good thing to do.

Write more letters. Not because the world is moving too fast nowadays.

Write more letters. Not because it’s something you haven’t done in a while.

Write more letters. Not because you have things to get off your chest.

Write more letters. Not because you don’t know how to say it with your own voice.

Write more letters. Not because you think it’s romantic.

Write more letters. Not because you might make them smile.

Write more letters. Not because that’s what they do in the movies.

Write more letters. Not because that’s what someone told you to do.

Write more letters. Not because you might have something to gain from it.

Write more letters. Not because it’s a lost craft.

Write more letters. Not because you need to strengthen the muscles in your hand.

Write more letters. Not because you might learn new words.

Write more letters. Not because you want to show how much you care.

Write more letters. Not because it’s something tangible to hold onto.

Write more letters. Not because it’s your what ancestors did once upon a time.

Write more letters. Not because someone sent you one and you need to return the favour.

Write more letters. Not because nothing.

Write more letters because everyone deserves a hand-written letter.

POEMS:

Poem #1: "The Curve" - Akash Patel

Seek out the slope

At the top lies a peak

A steeper curve awaits

An unforgettable place

Your arena

Your stage

At the bottom, you can find comfort

An armchair or two

Below that, you'll find regret

a path of no stress

but seek out the slope

there may be pain, certainly failings

but as that peak approaches

you'll find no regrets

only fullness

stay on the path

stay on that curve.

Poem two: "The Curve Part Two" - Josh Lynott

I find my feet on the part that's steep,

There is little space for others to meet.

I yeard to stand where I am

A position I fought for and will to the end.

Smile, laugh, hurt, wish, cry, or complain.

Choose your elixir without disdain.

The curve is where you belong,

But it's your choice to play along.

I want you to fall and slide

It's the best place to know you're alive.

Kick the curb, stand on the curve

That's the one place you'll truly learn.

Poem: "The better half of a good time" - Josh Lynott

The better half of a good time

stares at you straight down the line.

Step aside, enough of your games

Stop pretending you're here.... to be entertained.

You make the moves, and the plays

call the shots, hit the notes, paint the days.

Pull your paintbrush out the holster,

weaponise your canvas, relax your shoulders.

I see your vision, but it's old news

the world loves those, who play the muse.

Make yourself interesting, take a stance

only flat angles don't stand a chance.

Don't do it for the money or the fame,

Do it for your mind, let it un-tame.

The better half of a good time,

rewards those who toe the line.

Questions discussed in order:

  • How do you manage your time? Any tips or tricks?
  • How to become comfortable with yourself being alone (solo travel)?
  • Best/favourite shoes... running trails vs travel.. vs road?
  • How to start writing poetry?
  • What's the best adice you've been given/ would give to someone?
  • What do you believe the motives behind ones beliefs and passions?
  • How do you trust the mountain is growing when the layers take a long time?
  • How do you reboot your life when you're feeling lost?- When your mind is chaotic - grab a notebook and spit everything out. Make the thoughts tangible. Organise, add, subtract, and regain, clarity.
  • What is my 5 year vision?
  • Are you buying bitcoin using amber app?
  • What's a repeating fear/belief that comes up in moments of your life?
  • Do you prefer running by yourself or with others?
  • How did you develop your passion for running?
  • How to navigate the emotions of a big event/race?
  • If we were stuck on a dessert island, what could we count on you for?

Questions: Lag metric vs Lead metric. Write them out.

Poem: "I'm this, till I'm not"

I'm a yes man, till I'm not.

I'm fast, until I'm stopped.

I'm a lover, till it ends.

I'm a stranger, until we're friends.

I'm brave, till I'm stupid.

I'm courageous until I'm reputed.

I'm a runner, till I'm walking.

I'm a listener, until I'm talking.

I'm a follower, till I'm alone.

I'm a king, until the throne.

I'm adventurous, till I'm tired.

I'm calm, until I'm wired.

I'm a thought, till I'm an action.

I'm an outfit, until I'm fashion.

I'm driven, till I'm lazy.

I'm incredible, until I'm crazy.

I'm a noun, till I'm a doing.

I'm anything, until I'm moving.

I'm a question, till I'm the result.

I'm a kid, until I'm an adult.

Poem: "What happens on the days I can't write poems?"

What happens on the days I can't write poems,

when the words don't rhyme and my rhythm is out of time?

I'll still put pen to paper

and let my brain melt.

Maybe one day,

I'll look back and see something heartfelt?

I don't know know if heaven is up there

or down there,

I truly believe it's where my feet are,

right here.

I change my mind day to day,

writing poems is like childs play.

Scrambling, jumbling, switching, swapping, noting, observing.

That's whats happens to my words when I spend too much time running.

On the days I can't write poems,

this is what you get.

A few words before my brain resets.

Mr Barber, I could pay you for your time

But that won't give me any peace in my mind

Because some things,

are still broken.

That can't be fixed,

With my log in.

Now I think that I'm a genius

But I don't feel like that, right now

at this genius bar

as they try and connect me to a star.

But that still ain't the answer.

I'm walking through the streets of Bondi

Exhausted, I feel my tired eyes.

Mr man, Jack was his name

Said I'm the luckiest guy alive today.

That might be true, it might be false

But it's because I returned a wallet with no pulse.

I aint lucky,

I'm just a boy with a notebook

Walking the streets off the hook.

Poem: "Colin" - Josh Lynott

What happened to the man who lost his spark?

What happened in the hours after dark

  • I can't help but know.

Lean, and elegant, adventurous and wildsome.

Scars on his arms, proof of living. Brushstrokes of life.T

attoos with lines blurred, ears pierced; a sharp edge.

Did you see him, bright and alive

A sight to behold - like a mountain top at sunset - before the clouds roll over.

Knifing against the lilac blue sky

And what happened, finally, when the storm rolled in?

Tell me the orchestra kept playing, and the engine kept revving.

Like melodies lost in the wind, and fumes on a highway

And did you keep driving - music blaring, with a glimmer in the eye?

And you too know of a man who lost his spark?

I wonder what happened?

Poem: "Shipping Container" - Josh Lynott

The best piece of art I ever made,

It had no name, not even mine.

It shouldn't be there, they'd lock me up.

In the dark of night, under the street light.

I was in and out, within the minute.

Would it be gone tomorrow,

or is there more time I can borrow?

Let me make the people smile.

Give me white walls.

Walls need words

because that's how the world turns.

Gravity pulls on the heart who reads,

graffiti is the poor mans way to prove what the world needs.

Let the artist play,

give them a shot in the middle of the day.

I'll paint more walls with no names.

I'll change the world with my painting games.

Give me my paint,

Give me space to play.

I promise I'll make your day.

Poem by Josh Lynott: "Don't look for answers"

I looked for the answers till my eyes burned.

Nowhere to be found, my heavy heart yearned.

My eyes are on fire, and my heart melted.

What was the world teaching me, my mind belted.

The more we dare to seek,

The larger the world becomes.

You must not be shy or meek,

Or wait too old, as time is soon undone.

Early answers are a quick win at the casino.

Long answers are buried, challenging everything you know.

Go dancing in the wind, dance with your questions.

You are the answer, you are the learnings.

Burn bright, burn slow

Be curious, you know.

Ask not what you have, but what is?

What's yours is neither mine or his.

Poem One:

"Ramblings and Sweet Treats" - Josh Lynott

Poem by Josh:

Life is full of sweet treats.

Sweets for the eyes, soul, mouth, and heart.

Every part of us craves something sweet.

To feel like a kid on a country swing.

Devouring organic butter from country markets.

Running in the rain, drying dirty feet.

All of these are things so sweet.

What a joy to know we have so much more, more to meet, more that's sweet.

One day, life will be slower.

The process has already begun.

If there was a way to reverse this fast life, we have nearly found the answer.

The world doesn't need our replies.

The world needs home cooked meals.

The world needs barefoot walks.

Perhaps, the adventure of disconnect

ia the exact path to connect.

As the days go by, we shall not seek answers,

that is time not well spent.

Living with love will reveal

all the answers we didn't need to search for.

Yet right now, it is here

a life full of sweet treats.

Isn't that the greatest joy of all. - JL

Give me some eyes,

A target, something wild to chase.

Paint them in red and let them free

This is what danger feels like.

Poem - "I hung my washing upside down"

I hung my washing upside down, and the clouds winked at me.

They’ve been upside down before, they know this confusion.

I hung my washing outside to dry, and walked my socks in a puddle.

My socks have swum before, this feeling is no illusion.

I set my alarm for seven, and the blinds smirked at me.

They’ve slept in before, they know the temptation of warmth.

I snoozed my alarm four times, and forgot I boiled the kettle.

My kettle has been forgotten before, it knows how to settle.

I ate breakfast with no-one watching, and the flowers started dancing.

They’ve heard these songs before, they know this beat and flow.

I ate breakfast whilst my journal stared, and didn’t share a bite.

My journal can hear my thoughts talking, ideas to unlock and know.

I walked down the stairs in a new way, and the concrete wanted to join.

They’ve never tried these moves before, they know very few shapes.

I walked down the stairs with eyes closed and took a chance on life.

My life talks with all that isn’t me, always keeping me out of strife.

Welcome, to show notes; there is a lot to add today.

Guests: Louis Stenmark & Nat Puga.

Poem one: Louis Stenmark

Title: When the rain sounds aren’t on my phone

The best is here.

When the rain sounds arent from my phone

When the doorbell rings and you’re home

When the coffee never gets cold

When the water is reflecting gold

When the sun warms the skin

When the hours feel almost thin

When our eyes meet across the street

When Under the table we touch feet

When?

Now and then.

Today, yesterday tomorrow

It’s your choice, to avoid sorrow.

The best is here.

Poem Two: Josh Lynott

I stood in the middle of the world,

wrapped the planets around my finger,

And asked them questions I was sure

They didn’t know the answers to.

I asked them why the stars who were best of friends lived galaxies apart from each other.

I asked them why the ocean who loved the moon so dearly, never moved in.

I asked them why the most beautiful sunsets, were never framed and put above saturns dinner table.

I asked them why the sun chose to give its warmth to us, a little blue planet.

They replied to me.

The stars know better than any that comparison destroys their personality.

The ocean knew if it moved to the moon, it would lose it’s purpose.

Saturn smiled and said it’d never watch a sunset again if they were framed forever.

And as for the sun, it knows that warmth goes further when shared.

So I went back home and left the world to spin as it was.

I said goodbye to the planets and asked for their mailing address.

And so it was, for all the questions I had, the world had perfectly good answers.

Poem three: Nat Puga

I’m hungry, but I’m patient

It never bothered me

Waiting for what’s mine in this world

I’m starving but I’m biding my time- this interlude will also come to an end

I will be ready when it does

Like honey spread

on a warm loaf of bread

Poem Four: Louis Stenmark

Today was the biggest day to date for Mitch and Josh. They set out with a lofty goal of riding a touch over 90 mile/145km. Looking briefly at the map last night, they decided there weren't going to be many places to stay or refuel. Alas, it was time to go big.

They encountered their first flat tyre of the trip. Unfortunately, Mitch rode over an extremely fine piece of steel and it went straight through his tube.

It was Amy & Ron, two local cyclists that came to the rescue. Both being well versed in bike repair, cycling and replacing tubes, they were able to help the boys and get Mitch back rolling again in no time. After this, the boys pushed on for another 100km. The route was noticeably undulating compared to the first two days. Big hills had their legs burning.
