Isaiah Saldivar is one of the most well-known "demon slayers". Known for his sermons on repentance and holiness, as well more recently his teachings on casting out demons from believers. In this video essay, I aim to lay out an understandable timeline of how Isaiah Saldivar began his ministry, learned how to preach, and how he became so well known in the deliverance ministry world. Not using my own words, but his. This isn't a hit piece, which will disappoint some, but rather a video in which I present the facts I've discovered while researching Isaiah's life. My goal is to present that information and let the viewer decide. In this video essay, I aim to lay out an understandable timeline for where Andy Stanley came from and how different events in his life have influenced how he approaches situations now.

This isn't a hit piece, which will disappoint some, but rather a video in which I present the facts I've discovered during researching Andy. My goal is to present that information and let the viewer decide. To assist in this endeavor I have provided a list of links to the full videos I used in this video.

If you find this video helpful make sure you leave a like, subscribe for more content like this, and share it with a friend.

This week I wanted to switch things up and do a bit of a different kind of review.  As I was scrolling YouTube this video was recommended to me, as I watched it I was both impressed and troubled by the answers that were being given.  I always want to ensure that we, as believers, are using biblical discernment in every aspect of life.  This of course includes sermons but also includes things like Christian conferences, pastors panels, and Christian books.

My hope is that while we work through this panel we address both the questions asked and the answers given.  As we do so using biblical discernment to see if they point back to the scriptures and glorify Christ.

The panel in this review was filmed at the Vous 2022 conference and was uploaded to the Vous Friends And Family YouTube channel on August 19, 2022.  All rights belong to Vous Church and Vous Friends and Family. This video is for teaching and review purposes only and is protected under fair use.

CORRECTION: At minute mark 1:05:23 I give incorrect context to chapter 3 of 1 Corinthians. I associate it with the second half of chapter 6.   The point he seems to be trying to make by using 1 Corinthians 3 is to not be divided into factions.  The association he is making is that denominations are the same type of factions described in 1 Corinthians 3.

This last week I made a reel with a clip taken from a random sermon given by Andy Stanley. At the time I hadn't seen the full sermon and wasn't sure how to track it down. IMPORTANT UPDATES:

1) At the 38:08 minute mark Tim mentions that God needs you, I then reply that God doesn't need you.  I couldn't remember the passage at the time of recording but it is Esther 4:12-17.

2) At the 42:16 minute mark I mention that Tim misquotes scripture. The scripture I'm pointing to is Acts 20:7-16.

First Steven Furtick Sermon Review: https://youtu.be/QhYA8aOFdT4

Original Sermon Link: https://youtu.be/Px6DEPDM6bc

SPECIAL NOTE: In this review I state that I believe Furtick could be a person similar to Apollos. Apollos was an evangelist and you can read the account I’m referencing in Acts 18:24–28.  My point is that Furtick is an incredibly passionate and gifted speaker.  As such my contention is maybe he simply needs someone like a Priscilla and Aquila to come and “explained to him the way of God more accurately”. In stating this I did fail to note that many have tried to do this with Furtick and he has not humbled himself to listen.

In my previous video, "Christianity And The LGBTQ+ Community", I briefly mentioned that I found both Matthew Vines and Colby Martin's to not be incredibly convincing.  Though I do think that a good portion of the exegetical work done on the passages is helpful, it seems to continually stop short of addressing the overall understanding of relationships as mentioned throughout scripture.  This video is an attempt to clarify any confusion from the statement in my last video, as well as hopefully provide a fuller context of the culture that I wouldn't have been able to do in the original video.

It's undeniable that the Church has to have a conversation about Christianity and LGBTQ+ community. At this time there are denominations that have split and denominations are currently moving in directions that will lead to the same actions occurring within them. With this knowledge, it would be foolish for believers to believe that their local congregation won't have to address this at some point. We need to ask the leaders of our churches what they believe the Bible to teach in regards to Homosexuality in particular and sexuality in general. Do we have ministries or a ministry culture that helps others grow in their sanctification? Do we have clear policies in our church disciplines that are scriptural and gracious to those that struggle with same-sex attraction?

As part of a larger project I'm working on in regards to critical race theory, intersectionality, and the church I'm reading through books that are either speaking on the subject or reacting to the subject.

One of these books is "Social Justice Goes To Church" by Jon Harris.  In the book, Harris recounts the history of the progressive evangelical movement of the early and mid-seventies.  As well as the parts that those within the movement still play in today's social justice movement.

I read this book as a way to get a better understand of where the social justice movement has come from and what part it plays today.  Though the book doesn't deal specifically with critical race theory it does show a repeating history within the evangelical church of how Christians react to certain social situations at even given time.

The above video is an overview of the book as well as my brief thoughts on the book and how it works as a worldview.

As part of a larger project I'm working on in regards to critical race theory, intersectionality, and the church I'm reading through books that are either speaking on the subject or reacting to the subject.   One of these books is "Faultlines" by Voddie Baucham.

In the book, Baucham looks at what Critical Social Justice is, how it has started to enter the evangelical church, and what the effects will be if left unchallenged.  I read this book as part of this project because it was the go-to book shortly after the death of George Floyd in 2020.  In addition to this, it continues to be pointed to as one of the central works in the understanding of racism.

NOTE: At the 56:08 mark of the sermon review I say that Todd had no verse to support his point. I have since been corrected. The verse he seems to be referring to can be found in Hebrews 9:14. That being said, I believe he still uses it incorrectly as within context “deed works” seems to refer to the actions that cannot save due to human sinfulness. This seems to be supported in Hebrew 6:1 where the author speaks of “dead works” the first time. Also, at the one hour and twelve-minute mark, I reference a verse without mentioning which verse it is. The verse I couldn’t remember is John 9:1-9 in which Jesus says, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” Lastly, I, unfortunately, did the same thing I often accuse others of at the one-hour fourteen-minute mark. I reference Revelation chapters 19-21 without saying that's where I’m getting my information from.

Online social media platforms have given us the ability to say what we want whenever we want.  That can be really great, but there are some major downsides.  We can have this false allusion that just because we posted about a hot button issue that we've done something.  I think it's time to take the words of James to heart and ask if our faith has been put into action?

Definitions define how words are used. When definitions change the way that words are used change, both in society and in law. So when this happens the church should take note because it will undoubtably how we are seen.

The closer we get to the election the more I want to stay off social media.  Not because people are being naturally horrible to one another, I expect that from nonbelievers.  The concerning part is that it seems as if Christians can't tell the difference between our faith and our political parties. So let's rant about that for a minute.

Often times when ministry opportunities arise there is any number of people interviewing for the position.  Often times, especially if it's their first time, those interviewing are to excited to ask the right questions.  They want to do ministry and this ministry opportunity seems like it would be the right fit.  So in their excitement, they forget to ask questions, the important questions.  This can end horribly for both the individual and the church.

In the not too distant future, and some would even argue now if you say you're a Christian you're going to need to be able to back that statement up. You're going to need to be able to explain, from scripture, why you believe the things you believe.  Along with explaining it, you're going to need to be able to actually live them out.  You know that crazy love for your enemies in Matthew chapter 5 He talks about? Yeah! Live that out.

As Christians, we realize that sin is real and that sin is the reason God's wrath is coming.  We are all sinners and justly deserve that wrath.  On the other hand, we also realize that our God is a loving God.  He is both merciful and gracious. Unfortunately we often only preach one of these two truths.  We either overemphasize His wrath at the neglect of His love, or we overemphasize his love at the neglect of His wrath.  As Christians its important to identify what is your tendency and work to balance out the message given your unique situation.

Today I posted a meme about elders/pastors.  What mind-blowing, to my apparently sheltered mind, is that people are defending pastors that openly sin and still hold a position as an elder. Let's talk about that for a second....

I was listening to a radio program today that was talking about tech companies changing the language they use to describe different aspects of computing.  They also spoke of companies changing the language to make it more gender-inclusive.  Often times when the culture does something the church isn't too far behind.  What are your thoughts?

I don't have all the answers, I would never claim that. But as I've been talking with people about what's been going on in our country and trying to process that through the lens of Biblical truth I came to two conclusions. We need to seek justice while loving our enemies.

While running my IG page I've come to notice a glaring issue, we don't spar well.  Instead, we go in with both fists swinging in order to knock our brother/sister out.  As Christians we need to learn how to spar well so that when the real fight comes we are ready.

We have all been given opportunities to speak about Jesus.  Who He is, what He has done, and what that means for us and others.  When given those opportunities do we seize them? Do we boldly proclaim the hope of Christ or do we flake? Same question different scenario, what if you were asked this in front of billions of people?

When you listen to this interview understand that I'm not necessarily critiquing the pastor himself or his church.  This is why I cut out the parts of the interview where she says his name and church.  I'm critiquing his total lack of gospel preaching.  He was given a golden opportunity to preach about Jesus and His work but dropped the ball.

This should be a reminder to us not to do the same.  Pray for opportunities to preach Jesus and when those times come, do so!

Covid-19 has changed how the church meets and communicates the message of Jesus Christ.  "Should we have an online presence?" is no longer the question.  The question is now, "How do we have an online presence?" I get it, life is more stressful than normal right now.  In saying that I don't mean to downplay the situation that we are all in.  Rather, I just want to help shift your perspective a bit.  When we understand everything we have is an undeserved gift anyway, we look at everything we do have a lot differently.

You're stuck and you're going to be stuck for a minute.  So what do you do? You could worry or stress out but that won't change much of anything.  I would humbly suggest making the most of the situation.  Turn off Netflix, put your phone up, pull out a board game and make some memories (while sanitizing the dice).

As I've spoken to pastors the last few weeks I've heard a common theme.  A theme of concern for their congregations and how to meet those congregants' needs.  With rules and suggestions changing daily pastors are trying to navigate what is best for their local gathering.  This can be stressful and trying.  Take a moment each day and pray for your pastors.

So for the last week easily everyone I've been around has been talking about the coronavirus.  The health effects, how bad it might get, who will get it, if it's being blown way out of proportion, etc.  I don't know the answer to any of those questions, BUT I do not one thing.  People are freaking out and cancelling large events.  There are, in some states, strong suggestions to not be in large groups.  If you decided to listen to those suggestion is your own business.  If you do decide to stay in thought the question is what will you do with that free time?

What happens after you die? How can you have peace in times of trouble? In a chaotic world, how can you have control? All of these questions and a few others have been talked about in the last few days, between my friends, family, and co-workers.  The coronavirus has given us as Christians a great opportunity to talk about who Jesus is and what He has done for us. Obviously, we need to pray that a vaccine is found and that those that are currently suffering get well.  However, as we are in the in-between of those moments, let's not waste the conversations that fall into our laps.
