Each episode features an animal spirit which inspires a short yoga practice, a journey or guided meditation, or another shamanic practice for self-care. Patreon sponsors have access to bonus materials move deeply into connection with the natural world and into relationship with animal helping spirits and their living incarnations.
New episodes weekly except during June and December.
As a follow-up to the previous episode when I shared an Equinox ritual to rebalance the elements, the next four will provide a deeper exploration of each of the elements as I have come to know them. This one takes us through the Air Element with a look at how Air shows up physically in and around you, what mental activities or emotional states are associated with Air, and how imbalances of Air manifest in our human collective and the ecology of the planet.

As I recorded this episode the Sun was just a few hours away from entering Libra and marking the Equinox. The hours of sunlight and darkness are as equal as they are going to be (it isn’t exact at all latitudes) and there is a seasonal transition. Reflecting on the Equinox and the balanced light, I was drawn to offer a meditative ritual for bringing balance to each of the elements as they manifest in your body, mind, and spirit. While the Equinox is a good time to work on balance, you can do this for yourself whenever you would like.

I have been at my computer more than usual lately, writing and engaging in my own keyboard activism and I find myself relying on my favorite desk yoga movements and poses to combat tired shoulders and neck pain. If you are feeling the tension in your upper back, shoulders, and neck, try this desk yoga sequence during your next screen break.

Because it was seminary “homework,” I never had the opportunity to deliver an inspirational talk I wrote which I called “Loving the World Into Balance: A Call for Climate Justice.” I was feeling like it needed to be heard, so I recorded it for this episode. May it inspire you to seek the experience of interconnection through divine love.

In the previous episode I shared my understanding of shamanism. Now I introduce Shamanic Reiki as created and taught by Llyn Roberts. I also tried to start an environmental and wildlife news section but ended up just reading you a bunch of depressing headlines that emphasize why it is so important that we are doing the work of not only advocating for change but of dreaming a better world into being. The episode ends with an exercise you can do to shift your vision, which I teach in Shamanic Reiki Level One.

After so many episodes, I think it is about time I explain a bit about the word “shamanism” since I through it around so much. I touch on why I don’t call myself a shaman but do share contemporary shamanic practices in Shamanic Reiki trainings. You will be guided into a shamanic journey to find or create your sacred place, a basic journeying practice I introduce in those trainings.

I am calling this my reemergence episode. Since I last recorded, I have been ordained as an interfaith minister and I needed to figure out what that meant. You’ll hear me share my statement of ministry and personal vows. I’ll share one way I am reemerging into public (and you are welcome there). And you will be invited into meditation to explore interconnection to the beings in your local ecosystem. Thanks for listening after all this time.

It has been a month, friends. I got a bit whiny as I recorded this, but tired is my truth and I choose to honor it. If you feel it too, I hope you will also honor your tired and take some time for rest and renewal. The yoga in this episode is an easy, supine practice and leaves you seated for meditation.

I missed a couple of weeks of recording because some personal stuff upset the illusion of balance I had for myself. The thing about balance, especially that work-life balance that is often spoken of, is that it does not exist. Instead, we are merely juggling our obligations or, as I put it in this episode, running from one side of the seesaw to the other trying to keep them both in the air. Sometimes, however, something unexpected but important and urgent lands on one end and you just tumble off. In this episode, I invite you to explore balance, and then let it go, in an equinox inspired yoga practice.

This week I have felt scattered, and I am having trouble focusing on tasks I need to complete, like creating a new podcast episode. World events, and my own stuff, have been distracting. To work with the disarray in my thoughts, I am sharing a simple mindfulness meditation practice, which I hope will be re-centering for both of us.

When my helping spirits gave me a message to “get loud,” I was not sure what they meant. Yoga, Reiki, and meditation are not loud practices. But I knew yoga could help strengthen our speaking up muscles, and the practice I planned was affirmed right before I recorded. Join me for an active yoga practice that gets loud.

I set aside my plan for this episode to instead record a meditative prayer for peace. I am following the invasion of Ukraine with a heavy heart, and this is my small offering towards cultivating peace, light, hope, and love in our world. I also pray that I can return to a serious but somewhat lighter topic next week. May it be so.

It has been a while since I shared about my journey into wildlife rehabilitation and why I work with turtles. The story I tell was originally written for and shared with my interfaith seminary class last year. Then, you will be guided in a short, gentle yoga practice culminating in a long-held turtle pose.

Before I recorded this episode, I sat outside for meditation, as I do daily, watched the squirrels, and contemplated love. The squirrels have been flirting with each other of late, but the love I was thinking of was not the romantic kind, but the deeper, divine love at the center of our beings – yours, mine, the squirrels’, and all beings’. The practice offered is my twist on Metta, or the practice of loving kindness. You can sit for meditation anywhere you are comfortable.

The yoga practice sequence in this episode, which I’m calling “Yoga for a Warrior’s Heart,” came out of a moment when I was demonstrating Warrior II for a virtual client and remembered one of Will Keepin’s principles of spiritual leadership. The principle is that love creates the form, just like an open heart creates the alignment in Warrior II. I will guide you through it so you can cultivate your own warrior’s heart.

To ignite your core and build strength, try this heat-building yoga practice. If you find balance poses challenging, practice near a wall or have a sturdy chair handy.

As I record the second episode of 2022, I am working with grief and frustration I feel after reading news of grey wolves who have been killed in recent weeks. Wolf is one of my animal helping spirits so I feel very close to Wolf Spirit manifested. The gentle yoga practice in this episode helps you center and release agitation and other emotions that come up when you receive upsetting news.

Welcome to 2022! Like me, the podcast is changing and growing, and future episodes will feature both new and familiar practices. In this first episode of 2022, you will be guided through a tree meditation I wrote as part of a climate justice-themed worship service I am putting together as a seminary project. With a tree, through breath, connection, and love, you find balance.

Fire Ant energy can be difficult to deal with. These swarming, stinging ants have invaded the southern part of the United States and are dangerous to humans and wildlife alike. When we take on Fire Ant’s energy, we bond over our anger and aggressively “gang up” on those we see as other. This episode’s meditative practice helps you cool your Fire Ant energy by honoring the different aspects of yourself and the planetary ecosystem of which you are a part.

As helping spirits, dolphins are playful healers who, like their manifestations in the physical world, love the companionship of those who are heart-aligned. I know some humans who embody dolphin energy and guess you do too. You will practice dolphin pose playfully in this episode of the My Shamanic Life podcast.

The spark of inspiration for this episode was Firefly Spirit. The cherished lightning bugs who created magical nights during my childhood are declining. Saving them will require a spark of out of the norm thinking. The yoga practice ignites your inner spark and channels Firefly with expansive and contractive movements that mimic the lightning bug’s flashes.

This episode was inspired by Mouse Spirit, who is detail-oriented and focused on each kernel of abundance to be found. Mouse will take every opportunity, no matter how small or insignificant it seems, to find resources. The gentle supine yoga practice invites you to notice the subtle details of the poses and movements.
The shadow side of Mouse energy is a nit-pickiness that is probably procrastination, which is what I was doing when it came to continuing the My Shamanic Life podcast. To keep this podcast going, I need to cover the associated hosting and publishing expenses. The associated Patreon was set up to help me raise some funds for wildlife rehabilitation, but that is now its own nonprofit organization, Dancing Turtle Rescue and Education Program, Inc., with separate avenues for fundraising. The pandemic changed how I generate income, and I find myself unable to continue to fund the podcast, which will need more storage on the hosting site soon, without your help.

Hyena must have been laughing at me when I sat down to record this podcast episode, because I struggled to find something to say. While the yoga practice does not reflect all that the adaptable hyena can teach about leadership and communication, it will get you moving with some standing heart openers. May you discover the courage to speak your heart’s truth.

The phoenix represents burning away the past and rising from the ashes as your authentic self. When Phoenix showed up the day after my first time participating in a lobbying day with my state legislators, I knew you needed to find your own way to step into leadership in a way that reflects your truth. In this episode, you will experience a guided journey into the fire and back again.

Alligators in Oklahoma who stuck their snouts out so they could breathe as unusual cold froze the water around them inspired a yin style yoga practice which asks you to breathe into discomfort. Like those alligators, when the next climate change crisis hits, and it will, we need to first set ourselves up to breathe. While we breathe into it, waiting, we gather strength, so when the ice melts we are ready to take action to help now or address the root cause.

It has been a fight to get here. A restorative yoga practice invites you to rest and renew your energy so you can get back to standing up for our interconnected ecosystem. Inspired by frog, this episode’s restorative yoga practice guides you into gentle hip openers where you can rest and get in touch with your water energy. Ease into the practice, and don’t forget to drink some water too.

Inversions in yoga are physically beneficial and they invite a change of perspective. Inspired by bat, the short yoga practice in this episode guides you into shoulder stand, with lots of variations and modifications to find an inversion that works for you. Unroll your mat and practice yoga from a bat’s perspective.

If you live in the United States, feeling grounded may be difficult now. Our foundation was rocked and many I speak to are feeling frustrated, angry, and hopeless. If you are trying to achieve something and you are feeling too shaken to focus, settle in for this episode’s guided meditation to reconnect to the Earth so you can feel grounded. Once you do, you can start building again.

You are being called to see past your ego to your truth, and to find the beauty in this world that is worth fighting for. In this episode’s yoga practice, you will move through some balance asanas to ground, build core strength, and fire up your third eye. I’ll also share what I intend to manifest in 2021 and an upcoming opportunity for you to learn Shamanic Reiki virtually. Get ready to see past the BS in the new year!

Happy Holidays! Because there is so much Air element influence happening, I am sharing a short but powerful breathing practice in this short episode. It is very centering, and I have been practicing often. We are breathing through a pandemic, after all. I am happy to be back recording mostly weekly for you as we figure out how to be in a new age.

Last episode I said I had been getting my post-COVID life figured out. I hadn’t. I recorded this episode the following week and never posted it. I felt burnt out, out of alignment, and just generally useless. I considered abandoning the podcast all together, but I let it sit and Spirit gave me time, then nudged me back to it. I’m here for you and all the emerging advocates, activists, inspirational leaders, and co-creating changemakers out there, to help you see the gifts that are going to rock this world. This episode was inspirited by the Golden Egg from the Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck, and invites an opening of the heart. I believe I was called to post this episode today, three months after recording it, because I needed to hear it. Maybe you need to as well.

After a brief break to get my post-COVID life somewhat figured out, I am recommitting to weekly episodes for you and all the emerging advocates, activists, inspirational leaders, and co-creating changemakers out there. These podcast episodes are always inspirited by an Animal Spirit, and the appearance of Owl Spirit today was aligned with that commitment, which became especially clear when I linked Owl to the solar plexus energy center. The core-focused practice is yoga for your physical and energetic activist muscle.

Inspired by the way living starfish dance on the ocean floor, this episode’s yoga practice is a reimagining of a sequence I created in 2011. Dancing Starfish is challenging due to ever changing focal points, like trying to look from one star to another on a clear night.

This episode, about cultivating discipline and focus, was recorded three weeks ago. Then I got distracted. Doing the final edits today I was reminded that I made a commitment to weekly episodes and will try to get back on track this Friday. Meanwhile, explore a sun salutation-based yoga practice inspired by Moth energy.

Dragonfly zipped in to ask you to quiet your mind, so the yoga practice in this episode guides you through gentle poses with a relaxed belly breath to bring you to stillness. Open to the inner wisdom that surfaces when the body and mind are calm.

When the Earthworm card showed up to inspire this episode, I got to thinking about how great it is to have earthworms in my compost pile. They take all my garbage and turn it into fertile soil. You are invited to find the power to do your own with a yoga practice for composting.

The yoga practice in this episode invites expansion through movement. Inspired by snake energy, I ask what you need to shed in order to grow and, during this pandemic, what our society must be willing to drop so we can evolve as a collective.

Nurture compassion and feel into the energy of spring in a yoga practice to open your heart. This episode was inspired by Hummingbird from The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck by Kim Krans. Holding all those who are suffering with COVID-19 in my heart. The most compassionate thing we can do is to stay home and connect with nature and springtime right outside our windows.

As the coronavirus pandemic spreads around our Earth, Tarantula came out of The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck by Kim Krans with a message to see where your life’s purpose is being sidetracked by your everyday routines. We are at a crossroads, forced to drop the busy-ness we’ve gotten into the habit of being in. Join me for some yoga to playfully explore spider pose, then settle into final relaxation open to discovering your dharma.

Amid a global pandemic, I’ve been dropping into fear too. So, no surprise when Rabbit came out of The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck by Kim Krans. Now that you’ve prepared, be present with your fear in a slow yoga flow. Healers, we are being called. Take care of yourself and take care of others.

Follow this episode’s guided meditation into the forest and meet an animal nature spirit. What question is most heavy on your heart? The meditation was inspired by the Golden Egg card from The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck by Kim Krans. (The Yoga Nidra recording I mention is episode SF06 from August 2018. Time is tricky.)

Meditating on your mind as the sky opens your awareness to your crown chakra and the expansiveness of your consciousness. Happy Valentine’s Day! You are the heart of this podcast, dear listener, and you are loved and appreciated. When Cobra uncurled from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck to inspire this episode, I was drawn to the energy of the inner teacher. Have you been looking outside yourself for spiritual guidance? Really love yourself and open to your body as teacher. Drop the separateness. You are your body! The short yoga practice gives you opportunities to explore.

My theme for February is really loving myself. When the Firefly card from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck showed up asking what I was doing to be ready for a creative burst, I wondered what I would do when that flash was over. Through lots of practical magic in January, I’d opened up both time and physical space for some creative projects but, if I am really loving myself, I need space for feeling low energy or uninspired, too. This episode’s yoga practice is perfect for those times. Grab a yoga strap or a creative substitute and unroll your mat.

Octopus came out of Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck to inspire this episode. With his tentacles in everything, there might be some boundary issues to work on. Listen to the meditation to energetically firm up your own boundaries. Then, if you are in the United States, call your reps and the heads of the Department of the Interior and US Fish and Wildlife and tell them to enforce the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Endangered Species Act rather than decimating these critical laws for the protection of wildlife and their habitats.

Mouse invites you into deeper and subtler scrutiny of your physical body as you explore the details of Warrior I in your yoga practice. Following the guidance from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck and Yasmin Boland’s Moonology, we’re taking a look at pragmatism and attention to details in this New Moon in Aquarius episode.

There is power in being uncomfortable. Panther came out of Kim Kran’s The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck before I recorded this episode, which portends unexpected havoc. While it is uncomfortable, we cannot grow when we are stagnated. Learn to welcome the wild unholiness and discomfort of change with a Yin Yoga practice that asks you to sit with everything that comes up. You might want a folded blanket or cushion to support your hips in the seated poses.

It seems that, lately, every time I pull a card from Kim Kran’s The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck for episode inspiration, I get a Throat Chakra card. This week’s is Black Egg, the actual Throat Chakra card in the “spirit” group of animal spirits in the deck. I’ve been doing lots of work in that energy center – getting ready to premier a new webinar on January 27th. Whether I’m writing a talk, guiding a yoga class, or practicing my public speaking, my throat tends to act up, so I’m sharing a short yoga “warm-up” for the Fifth Chakra on both the physical and energetic levels. Open up and speak your truth!

I was ready to put Kim Kran’s The Wild Unknow Animal Spirit deck away and make a change for the new year, but the cards said, “no.” I’m sticking with it and pulled Oyster, which has a message of sharing inner treasures with the world. This is the time to let your light shine because it is needed, so the practice is gentle yoga and meditation to open up your heart and let your divine light radiate.

I gush a bunch about Kim Kran’s The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck but I really love her work. This episode’s inspiration was Hummingbird, whose energy is positivity, enthusiasm, and how to find nourishment in nature, spirituality, and creativity. The best way I know to cultivate those qualities is with a playful yoga practice. A yoga block or a thick book might be handy. Approach this practice like a beginner and have fun with the sequence.

The Unicorn card from Kim Kran’s The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck has been popping up for me and did again the morning I recorded this episode. Since I drew the card reversed, I approached Unicorn’s third eye association a bit differently with a yoga practice that connects your third eye to the earth. There is wisdom under our feet as well as “out there” in the cosmic realms.

This short episode was recorded in a hotel room while I was visiting family for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Inspired by the upcoming Giving Tuesday, I’m sharing my favorite charitable organizations, most of which are dedicated to wildlife conservation. I make my giving choices based on my values and my dream for the world. What organizations align with your values and vision?

Cards from The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck by Kim Krans have been right on (and challenging me) this week. Before recording, I pulled the Black Egg – the card for the throat Chakra. In the week after losing my voice to a cold, Mercury has gone direct, Spirit has been slamming me with messages, and I am tuning in to my truth and how to express it powerfully. Join me for a throat Chakra opening yoga practice. Grab a thin pillow or folded blanket if you need to pad under your knees.

After a taking a chance and speaking my truth in a webinar to introduce my newly launched Shamanic Flow Mentorship, I came down with a head cold that left me voiceless the next day. I was still under the weather when I recorded this episode and I’m sharing a very gentle yoga practice that supports you when you are congested and rundown. The Firefly card from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck inspired some discussion of supporting our flashes of inspiration and self-care when not feeling well. A yoga bolster or folded blanket is recommended for the practice.

In Yoga’s mythology, Makara is a huge crocodile-like creature and the ocean god Varuna’s steed. The pose dedicated to Makara is crocodile pose. Makarasana is a relaxing pose that releases tension in the low back and invites deep diaphragmatic breathing. When I pulled Crocodile from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck, with an energy of submerging to rest and gather energy, I had to offer you a short restful practice which begins and ends in Makarasana.

I’m drawing on my experience teaching the Chakra system and facilitating self-discovery through the Chakras to put together an online Chakra course. Since it was on my mind (and my desk), in this episode I’m sharing a meditation to bring awareness and balance to each of the seven major Chakra energy centers. You will feel the perfection of your being-ness.

Deeply explore Yoga’s Downward-Facing Dog pose in a practice inspired by the Dog Spirit card from Colette Baron-Reid’s The Spirit Animal Oracle. The card’s message is to be loyal to what you love, but also consider what you need to let go so you have room to grow. Just like the notion that your heels must reach the floor in Down Dog (hint: they don’t), what are you holding onto because you’ve always done in that way? Where is your loyalty wasted on what doesn’t serve you?

From reflection inspired by Nuthatch in Maia Toll’s The Illustrated Bestiary, this episode touches on our reactions to Greta Thunberg’s activism and our own desire (or aversion) to joining the front line of direct action. The gentle yoga practice gets your legs up the wall to restore your energy and invites you to look at challenges from another direction, like a nuthatch.

I drew Gray Wolf from the deck that came with Maia Toll’s newly released The Illustrated Bestiary. Join us for support! Then settle in for a guided shamanic shapeshifting journey with the spirit of Wolf.

Yoga’s Camatkarasana, the pose called Wild Thing, is a playful heart opener. For me, however, an injury led to a fearful retreat from practicing Wild Thing. With help from the Golden Egg from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck, I’ve contemplated how strengthening the back of the heart allows me to be more open and more courageous in the pose and in face of the devastation of our global ecosystem and our other collective challenges. This episode explores Wild Thing from a place of shoulder and thoracic stabilization that supports an open heart, physically and emotionally.

I ditched the yoga practice this episode so I could bring your attention to some of the wildlife that has been affected by the Amazon wildfires, Hurricane Dorian, and the roll back of the endangered species regulations in the United States. I end with a meditation on the power inherent in the web of life. I needed to write and guide this meditation as a step in the process of healing my frustration and powerlessness, and I hope my words bring you peace.

Get your talons out! In this episode we explore yoga’s Eagle Pose with emphasis on the legs. Discover its fiery energy inspired by the Eagle card in Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck. The message from the card was “step into the unknown,” a message I’ve been hearing since returning from Washington State’s Hoh rainforest, where I was with my Shamanic Reiki Worldwide clan on a Wild Wisdom Retreat with Llyn Roberts. Check out these retreats on the Olympic Mountain Earthwisdom Circle’s website (www.eomec.org).

I drew Snake Spirit from Colette Baron-Reid’s Spirit Animal Oracle deck, reversed, and looked at what it means to shed the past in a way that keeps us whole and growing. The yoga practice invites you to be snake-like and get your belly to the Earth. You might want a thin blanket under your hips during the back-bending sequence.

After saying a final goodbye to our elder dog this week, I was feeling a bit raw emotionally. Then I pulled Badger Spirit from Colette Baron-Reid’s Spirit Animal Oracle, reversed, and was challenged to consider how I let go of anger and frustration. Luckily I had hit the pavement in my running shoes earlier. The yoga practice offered takes you through a yang flow to shake off some of the anger and frustration you may be feeling if you are at all paying attention, then guides you into the yin of a long-held surrender. You will only need your yoga mat.

My dear friend Blair Sutherland (blairsutherland.com) created beautiful intro and background music for My Shamanic Life. I am grateful beyond words and pleased to be able to share it with you in this episode. I also share how an upcoming trip with my Shamanic Reiki teacher, Llyn Roberts, is challenging me to be less of a “mom” to my business so I can more deeply explore the Shamanic Reiki practices and my own creativity and intuition. The yoga practice will move energy upward through the Chakras to ignite your own inner wisdom.

The Nightingale Spirit card came out of Colette Baron-Reid’s Spirit Animal Oracle deck to invite a look into shadow in this week’s episode. Working with shadow parts – regrets, uniformed beliefs and biases, general ugliness of spirit – is necessary as we move into spiritual adulthood, but what we most avoid (me included) on our growth paths. The 30-minute yoga practice is on the challenging side today, to move you to your edge to notice your physical, emotional, and mental response. You will only need your mat.

Do you have spare time? I prefer to make a conscious choice to use my time in ways that align with the big vision for my life. In this episode I discuss what it means to have a vision, how it keeps me centered, and how all the things I spend time doing come together in a glorious way. Then I’ll guide you through a yoga practice that will challenge you to stay mindfully centered in both strong and releasing asanas.

This episode is all about the turtles. I am excited to announce that the podcast has its first Patreon sponsor to help fund equipment needed for wild turtle rehabilitation. I’ll share about how asking for help was a big step into a new way of being for me, and I’ll guide you through a yoga practice into a long-held turtle pose. If you experience knee or hip strain when sitting with the soles of your feet together, please have two yoga blocks, blankets, pillows, or thick books at hand when you unroll your mat.

I recorded this episode while on a needed vacation from teaching yoga. I love what I do, but I needed some rest before the busy summer tourist season. This episode is all about slowing down and sacred rest. The practice is a meditative energy practice that asks you to move slowly until you tap into the healing energy in your hands. You only need some place to sit quietly.

In this episode I guide a progressively more challenging series of sun salutations for the Summer Solstice. Before that, you’ll hear about the Beaver Spirit card from Colette Baron-Reid’s Spirit Animal Oracle and why I’m digging into my foundation of beliefs and clearing out the rotten stuff. Happy Summer Solstice to my northern hemisphere listeners!

When I pulled the Snake Spirit card from Colette Baron-Reid’s Spirit Animal Oracle, I thought of Kundalini and transformation, but Snake’s message in this deck is of healing. I share about some of the healing practices I have been neglecting before leading you through a yoga practice to explore a core-focused approach to Cobra pose, the embodiment of snake energy in yoga. There’s also an invitation to ten days of making gratitude offerings to the Earth, a challenge exclusively for members of the Shamanic Flow Circle.

Before I posted this episode, I had to edit out twenty minutes of crying brought on by sharing a heart-opening experience in releasing an orphaned squirrel I had raised as a wildlife rehabilitator. While on the topic of heart opening, the yoga practice builds to a variation of Matsyasana, fish pose, that adds core strengthening to support the emotional vulnerability of the asana. The deck I pulled from this week was Medicine Cards by Jamie Sams and David Carson.

The Nightingale card from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck inspired this episode. To practice speaking my truth and to share more of how I came to be who I am, I tell the story of how a dancing turtle led me to shamanism, which led me to wildlife rehabilitation. The 30-minute gentle yoga practice explores the poses that have been named for animals, and how we might move more like them.

After a mostly sleepless night spent inadvertently witnessing tragedy from afar and asking the Universe why I so often looked in the wrong place at the wrong time to avoid nights like that, I drew Unicorn from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck to start this episode. Yes, the Universe answered me and reminded me that opening to intuitive gifts sometimes means witnessing and holding space for some challenging stuff. I’ll touch on that before leading you through some sun salutations and a balance pose sequence to test your focus and to open your third eye.

This episode of My Shamanic Life was inspired by the Black Egg card from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck. The message is to speak your truth, so the short yoga practice focuses on your fifth chakra, the energy center in the throat. I believe we, collectively, need to work on both speaking our truths and listening (and I mean really listening) to the truths of others without judgement. My wish for this episode is that your throat chakra will more open and you will feel ready to speak your truth.

With a nudge from the Mouse card from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck, in this episode I’m sharing how I was blocking both my own healing and my healing work for others by not making space for it, plus an upcoming challenge for you. Then there’s 30 minutes of yoga to make space in your big joints – the hips and shoulders.

I heard lots of “I can’t do yoga because…” excuses this week and I’m done with them. This episode has a 30-minute excuse-proof chair yoga practice. Before it starts, I share about my yoga beginnings. They aren’t glamorous or exciting, but you’ll get why yoga is my “thing.” And why I know you can practice too, no matter what excuse you want to try.

In response to a listener request for meditations, this episode guides you through an experience of white healing light and love – your divine essence. I pulled the Iceberg card from Steven Farmer’s Earth Magic oracle deck to start us off. You won’t need anything except a place to sit comfortably and quietly for 20 minutes.

With tubs full of baby squirrel formula at hand and lots of bunny calls coming into the wildlife rescue hotline, I’m feeling the energy of baby season. In this episode I talk about how you can avoid disturbing animal nests and what to do if you come across a wild baby (hint – find a rehabber on www.ahnow.org). I also share why I added wildlife rehabilitation to my healing repertoire, then guide a gentle yoga practice so you can feel safe and nurtured like a spring baby. The deck I pulled from was Colette Baron-Reid’s Spirit Animal Oracle.

After seeing lots of posts about opossums on my social media feeds thanks to the wildlife rehabbers who are taking in orphans and trying to raise awareness of the benefits of having opossums around, I thought I’d fill in some blanks with this episode. The Earth card from Alberto Villoldo’s Mystical Shaman Oracle deck set it up and the idea of “playing possum” led into a 30-minute practice to get you deep into yoga’s corpse pose, savasana. When you’re back from playing dead, bookmark the Animal Help Now site – www.ahnow.org – to find a wildlife rehabilitator in your area and help out an opossum, or other animal, in need.

The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck by Kim Krans showed me Starfish for this episode. I’ll discuss what Starfish energy might be, then shift into a yoga practice which builds on the physical and energetic shape of Starfish. You will only need your yoga mat for the 30-minute practice.

Does the transition into spring plus the Mercury Neptune conjunction have you feeling out of balance? I was feeling like a flake as I sat down to record this episode, but some alternative nostril breathing got me together enough to share about how you can help wildlife rehabbers gear up for baby season, a new gathering I’m hosting for members of The Shamanic Flow Circle on Facebook, and the nadi shodhana – alternate nostril breath – practice. You won’t need anything except a place to sit.

Since I recently started training for a half marathon after a years-long break from running, I was planning to share a yoga practice for runners to get a good post-run stretch. The card I pulled from Toni Salerno’s Sacred Earth Oracle deck was “Specialization,” which asked me to consider transferring a skillset from one environment to another, so this episode also considers how I bring other aspects of yoga into running as I prepare for an endurance challenge. The flow at the core of the short yoga practice is a pigeon salutation, which opens your running muscles. It’s a great practice for walkers and hikers as well. You’ll only need your mat.

I had a request for some breathwork so this episode’s practice is an expansive breathing practice. But first, I’m sharing about finding a vision and a mission for my work as a healer. As you listen, I invite you to consider what your vision and mission are. What is your dream for the world, and how are you going to make it happen? For the breathing practice you will only need a comfortable place to sit or to lay down.

I had a last-minute schedule change and could only record a short episode this week. Since I am preparing to lead a Shamanic Reiki Level Two training and I’m sending Reiki to a pregnant giraffe (check out www.aprilthegiraffe.com or visit the Animal Adventure Park’s YouTube channel to watch the webcam with me), it is a great time to talk about how shamanic journeying made distance Reiki accessible for me. I’ll lead you on a short journey to find a power animal, so get comfy seated or laying down.

The Reiki symbol Sei Hei Ki came out of Dorothy May’s Archetypal Reiki deck to support me at the end of a rough week. In this episode I’ll talk about that symbol, my down days, grief, and emotional release. The 30-minute yoga practice explores some typically tight or held places in the physical body and invites a letting go on the physical and emotional levels. If you like props for sitting in easy pose, such as blankets or blocks, grab them and unroll your mat. (Sorry for the weird buzz in the background. I didn’t hear it until I listened to the recording.)

This week I said a final goodbye to one of my dogs and experienced the death of a young deer the team at North Country Wild Care and I rescued too late. I recorded this episode with a heavy heart but allowed myself to be vulnerable and share. I sequenced a 30-minute soothing Yin Yoga practice to caress the heart and allow the emotional hurt to be there, held but not squashed down. A few folded blankets or cushions can add extra support during these poses.

When the Eagle card from Kim Krans’ The Wild Unknown Animal Spirit deck came up today I was taken by surprise. I’ve been battling depression and anxiety, partially seasonal and partially due to dread and helplessness over the imminent destruction of the National Butterfly Sanctuary for a section of unneeded wall on the southern border of the U.S. Lifting to meet Spirit like Eagle felt impossible while I was feeling heavy. But the Universe knows that if I get into my body and start to break apart an asana, I can shift out of feeling powerless, even if it’s just for a little while. I dropped into Garudasana (Eagle pose) and broke it down for you, focusing on the interplay between the fiery core work and keeping your heart open for air, in a 40-ish minute practice. You won’t need anything but your mat.

To open this episode, I pulled the “Spiral” card from Alberto Villoldo’s Mystic Shaman Oracle deck. Spirals are very present in Shamanic Reiki and in yoga – as we create spirals in our physical body that reflect the energetic spirals that exist. Explore the spiral with me as a symbol of our spiritual growth cycles and in a 40-minute yoga practice. You’ll be doing some seated work to begin the practice, so please gather a folded blanket, cushion, or block to sit on if needed before you begin.

I pulled the Milky Way card from Steven Farmer’s Earth Magic Oracle deck, which is about perspective, and how important it is to step back and see the big picture and to witness my experiences without getting wrapped up in them. In this episode I share how mindfulness meditation is teaching me to witness how I am responding – mentally and emotionally – to bad news about the environment and things that arise during a Shamanic Reiki client session. Then I’ll guide you through a 30-ish minute yoga practice to explore different perspectives. You won’t need anything but your mat for this one.

I’m back to my somewhat revised podcast with a grounding yoga practice. I’ll share a bit of what I’ve been doing in the months since I last recorded an episode, then guide you through a short yoga practice to help you connect to the Earth element in your body and to feel more grounded. You won’t need anything but your yoga mat for this practice.
