Do you need a degree in theology and ancient languages to really understand the letter to the Hebrews? It seems the letter itself indicates no, because it was written to everyday people who were gathering together as followers of Christ. However, the writer has some strong concerns that not everyone in that group has mixed faith with the hearing of the gospel. He wants to make sure they understand how to do that and what is at stake.

This time Hezekiah goes himself to pray to Yahweh and a message comes through Isaiah that Sennacherib has been arrogant, he will go away and not come back, and the remnant of Jerusalem will escape to plant and harvest. Population in Pharaoh’s Jail Rises Dramatically
Israel and all his offspring travel to Egypt. Along the way, God spoke to Jacob in the night and told him he would become a great nation there. All Jacob's son's and grandsons are listed by name, plus a couple of daughters. At Joseph's direction, his brothers ask to live in the land of Goshen, which Pharaoh agrees to. Joseph continues to provide their food. The famine continues to be severe and the Egyptians end up selling their land to Pharaoh, as well as themselves. When the time came that Jacob knew he would die soon, he made Joseph promise not to bury him in Egypt. Read from the World English Bible.
Joseph's brothers are sent to buy grain in Egypt, where they talk with Joseph, but don't recognize him, even though he asks a lot of questions about their family. He accuses them of being spies, then tells the not to come again unless they bring their youngest brother, which will prove they are telling the truth. When they need grain again, they finally get Jacob to realize they can't go without Benjamin. Judah promises himself as collateral. After hiding his silver cup in Benjamins sack, Joseph accuses them of stealing and says they can all go home except Benjamin. Judah pleads with Joseph to keep him instead so that Jacob doesn't die of grief. At this Joseph breaks down and reveals himself, at which his brothers become terrified. In the end, they go to get Jacob and the whole family to come live in Egypt. Read from the World English Bible
Under Joseph's management, everything in Potiphar's house prospers, but Potiphar's wife tries to seduce Joseph. He declines, so she accuses him of trying to rape her. Then everything in the prison of the king's prisoners is put under Joseph's supervision and prospers. Here he meets Pharaoh's cup bearer and baker and interprets their dreams correctly. Two years later, Pharaoh also dreams and the cup bearer remembers Joseph. Joseph is brought before Pharaoh, Joseph interprets Pharaoh's troubling dreams. When I use the word ‘church,’ I use it how it was used in the Bible. In its simplest, it means those people who believe Jesus Christ was the Son of God he claimed to be, and accept His death and resurrection for all the true life He offers. (see I Corinthians 15:3-4) The most complicated the word ‘church’ gets is to describe those who gather together to encourage each other.

A Hopeful History of the Church
The people of the earth would rather stay in one place than fill it as God said to do and they want to "make a name" for themselves. God says that with one language they will be able to do basically anything they intend to do (the implication being this is not good), so he confuses their language and everyone scattered... like they should have done in the first place. God explains why all the animals will now be afraid of man, but makes it clear that killing another man is still murder. The record is very precise about how long it took and when the flood waters receded from the earth. A raven proves it can fly for a long time. It seems that maybe all the olive trees weren't destroyed in the flood. Noah apparently needs some encouragement to leave the ark. And God makes some very far reaching promises. Faith is what makes sense of the world around us. It is a faith which unlocks our struggles and desires. It is a faith that withstands the pride and lies of the arrogant, while continuing to offer hope to any who will acknowledge the God who is the source of their life.

Angels are Apparently Quite Scary – Luke Chapter 2
The phrase “a leap of faith” is an attempt to explain how some people can see the same evidence and come to different conclusions. Applied to something like “who washed the dishes when I wasn’t looking?”, it sounds like this:
- who is tall enough to reach the sink?
- who is known to be reliable about helping out?
- who does things a certain way, leaving tell tale signs such as how the dishes are stacked?
- who was known to be home during that time?
- who said he was going to wash the dishes?
- who says he washed the dishes?
- did anyone see who washed the dishes?
Somewhere along the line, a person decides there is enough information and whether or not he trusts the sources. Then, he makes an informed decision about who washed the dishes.

Is It a Leap of Faith – Luke Chapter 1
Man-made religion has given God a bad name.
Whether by arrogant ignorance or by power-grabbing design, both the words and story of God have too often been perverted to suit the agenda of people. I don’t just say men, because I think many women have been complicit in various ways. And although in some ways women have been more overtly oppressed by these perversions, men have also suffered because perversion of truth badly affects even those who lie on purpose.
To understand what God thinks about women, we must take the whole story into account.
