Morgan is a Berlin-based American-Indonesian artist who performs as Memeshift, coaxing danceable musical forms from common grooveboxes, old laptops, drum machines, Ableton Live and off-the-shelf synthesizers. Morgan’s other projects include .obat. which emits resonant drones for attentive listening and messyfingers which complexifies and performs site-specific electroacoustic sound, music and noise.
Morgan’s musicological interests also include ballads, spirituals and other roots Americana as well as FM synthesis and live sound composition using microphones, mixer feedback and kinetic instruments.
Morgan is currently developing new work sonifying and performing the cassettes, Minidiscs, floppy discs, hard drives and CD-Rs he’s amassed over the past 4 decades.

New .obat. in 2025! Generative patches and processing from some of Dillon Bastan's Ableton tools like Tree Tone.
The LS is a reference to Latent Sonorities and was created using the samples from Latent Sonorities alongside some generative spectral processing and smearing of them. Features a slenthem and gong ageng.
This was made using some modular stuff Stas Shärifullá let me try out while he stayed with us. But the final result was really inspired by my work with Pedro Oliveira. We also have some new stuff coming out on Blue Tapes.
recorded in late 2019 experimenting with high frequencies and inspired by mileece and autechre's Fold4,Wrap5
recorded in 2009 for .obat. side project in Oakland at my first apartment living alone,
Hehehe. This one is fun and there is a Star Trek reference in it. I wrote all the melodies, basslines, etc. in it, note by note.
??? - Exploring a pelog scale in modular eurorack with the 4msCompany Ensemble Oscillator by Morgan Sully
(field recording) - A Choir of Angels Singing in to a Brass Plate Suspended from the Ceiling of an Old Crematorium by Morgan Sully
Morgan Sully - Probably Channeling Thom Yorke but I don't Have Any Lyrics by Morgan Sully
Morgan Sully - Looking on the Bright Side even Though You Are Stranded in a Rowboat in the Middle of a Big Ocean by Morgan Sully
Unfettered nostalgia from a youth unknown, United Kingdom IDM before the turn of the millennium. I programmed all beats, percussion, notes, arppegiations etc.
Usually when it's just me and one instrument, it's under 'Morgan Sully'. This is me on a piano.
Morgan Sully - I Woke Up and this Song Came Out and the Coffee Was Still Warm While I Played by Morgan Sully
I made this borrowing my friend Stas' Rings eurorack clone and running my Korg Volca FM through it with post-processing in Ableton and a rad Audiority LX12 Solid State Amplifier VST.Stas' website is here: https://hmot.club/I'd also say this is inspired by working with Pedro Oliveira (https://oliveira.work/) - we've got some new stuff coming out together on Blue Tapes.
Morgan and Mauricio playing percussion, electronics, samples and laras from Ruma Budayah Indonesia Berlin's Javanese gamelan.

Culled from old hard drives, YouTube rips, Bandcamp purchases and unreleased material. Featuring Arab-influenced Indo/Malay music, deconstructed gamelan, psychedelic Occitan and Turkish folk, keroncong and closing out with a specially blessed, unreleased jaipong footwerk remix of Waldjinah’s ‘Kembang Kacang’, recorded in 1967. Also in this mix is Mother Bank, whose members are from a COVID-born experimental mobile bank in Jatiwangi, Majalengka, West Java whose activities also include recording music together. This mix also features unreleased recordings I made with friends using slendric tuning developed as part of Latent Sonorities, a project exploring the tuning systems and musicology of Rumah Budaya Indonesia Berlin’s (RBI) Javanese gamelan.Tracklist - Cheryl Ong & Khyam Allami - Intro (taken from Latent Sonorities)Raed Yassin - a Fistful of StardustKadapat - BloronkSourdurent - Franc De BruchWaldjinah - Walang KekekDerya Yildirim & Grup Şimşek - Nem kaldiNusantara Beat - DjangerOrkes El Surayya Medan - Di Satu MasaMorgan Sully & ??? - Laras Interlude II (unreleased) Morgan Sully & ??? - Bonang Roller(unreleased)Mother Bank - Pabrikmessyfingers - Home (Intro)Waldjinah - Kembang Kacang (Memeshift’s Keroncong Queen mix) (unreleased)Featured prominently through this recording is a sample from RBI’s gong ageng from their Javanese Gamelan.
This collage took Sipaningkah's Ranuang as a starting point, ending on Bury Me Beneath the Weeping Willow Tree as sung by Almeda Riddle. Between these two points lay the aural cinema of Neogeodesia's Seven Seas Sanctuary interspersed by ambient selections spanning Bandung, Berlin, Ukraine, Brasil and Seattle, Washington. I hope theTracklist:1. Sipaningkah - Ranuang (Sipaningkah from @chinabot)2. Memeshift - (unreleased live recording) (@memeshift)3. Neo Geodesia - Seven Seas Sanctuary (Neo Geodesia from @chinabot)4. ++++BEGIN TRANSMISSION+++ A lot of these tracks I've liked for a while and I wanted to make something with enough escape velocity to propel you up and through burning-plastic changed skies, up into atmospheric cruising altitude before depositing you on a lush, humid dancefloor with psychedelic peacocks on a colorful planet of 303 acid machines trying to communicate SOMETHING to us.
It's only a short trip though as eventually, we must come back to planet Earth, our home.
(photo by me from a place called Noisebridge in San Francisco. I think people make spaceships here - or at least the parts to them)

Play this track in the background, maybe when you have a dinner party or are doing your chores around the house.
'ISAN' is inspired by the IDM artist of the same name. It was recorded live in one take, live dubbed. The cuts and filters you hear are all 'hand-done' and basically live cut between separate tracks run through a DJ mixer (with crossfader) with some attempts at crabs and grabs between the four different tracks (four) of the song on a DJ mixer, hip-hop style.
Here's a live recording of what you hear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuHN3TBM8Sg
This track had been sitting around for a while and I'd been dreaming about putting it out on a vinyl to be played. Straight techno - maybe with some IDM thrown in with it's noisiness. Fun and hard:)
Get it on vinyl here: https://perfectlocation.bandcamp.com/album/perfect-collection-spring
This is a track I made in a day where I remixed https://soundcloud.com/sasha-pas/and-dance all sounds are from the song except for the birds:)
This was a track I made while experimenting with the FM synthesis of a Korg Volca FM. Its a great little device which can get some nice sounds, especially when you get down in to the lower frequencies.
I was feeling the vibes of the melody coming in on this one. Groovy little number. I just wanted to say that. Anyway, it's made for what else? Late night.
This track was started in a summer in Berlin amongst some good friends in my room where I was testing my friend Rémi's Tonverleih sound system. It started with the pads, but than I just added that beat! It evolved and made its way to Leipzig where my friend Alex added in some extra layers and instrumentation. Listen for the drop!
Just wrote this tonight. Was trying to find something melodic that could be run through the delay, but ended up jamming out on this track instead.
I composed this under my '.obat.' moniker, which focuses on more single tone, attentive listening music and drones. This track has dense motor ambiance.

This is a somber piece written in a room by candlelight with it's own reverberations and resonance.
