Driven Young: Recent Episodes

Byron Dempsey

I started the Driven Young Podcast as a way to help educate and inspire the younger generation. There are plenty of amazing podcasts out there but I find very few tailors their content to those in high-school and uni. Even the ones that claim they do seem to go off track and fail to keep their message clear and simple for the younger generation to understand.I believe our world is changing so fast, the current education system can’t keep up and is left teaching us old and outdated skills no longer relevant in the workplace. This podcasts explores what I believe should have been taught in school and aims to help people realise the world is different from when their parents grew up and we must make relevant decisions based on the world we live in currently not the world people used to live in.

Today I am joined by a legend, Jahan Kalantar.

Jahan Kalantar is a Sydney-based solicitor, university lecturer, and entrepreneur who describes himself as a ‘little guy lawyer’. He attributes his human rights leanings to his proud Persian heritage, a dislike of bullies and a genuine belief that one person can make a difference.

Leaving a successful career in finance in order to pursue law, he was admitted to the NSW Bar Association at the age of 25. Subsequently, he established and became a partner at the firm of Executive Legal where he heads up the serious crime and mental health practice.

Jahan is just an awesome guy, he has achieved so much at his age and I found this episode really powerful.

He also has built a following sharing legal advice on TikTok with over 400,000 followers which we don’t really touch on in the interview, but it has been a very beneficial platform for him.

Justin Martins – JMQ – multi-instrumentalist has a background in the Australian indie scene. Justin has toured internationally as “Our Man in Berlin” who also received heavy TripleJ rotation and support.

I met Justin through my best friend Pace and they're such an amazing person. But today on the podcast, whilst we do discuss their music career and journey we also discuss how Justin recently came out as non-binary.

Non binary is something I have wanted to explore for a while on this podcast and Justin is the perfect person to do it with in my opinion. They are very open, shared their entire experience and gave me a much deeper understanding and insight into how they felt and identify.

I really enjoyed this episode we also talked a lot about masculinity and what being a man is.

Out of all the episodes I have done, I feel as if tho this episode encapsulates what this show is about the best. And I highly recommend listening to the entire episode.

Today I am joined by Dr Justin Sung. Dr Justin is a former medical doctor turned to learn coach. He's passionate about helping people use genuinely effective learning strategies that work for everyone, not just a few high achievers. Unlike in medicine where your practice has to be tied to research, he realised how the common practices by schools and students weren't as evidence-based as they were hyped to be.

He also saw how this directly caused stress, demotivation, procrastination, and anxiety for students who kept putting in effort and didn't see results. Since 2011, Justin has worked with over 10,000 students across over 100 countries. He's the co-founder of iCanStudy, an organisation that specialises in learning skills, and is involved in novel research at Monash University, looking at the effectiveness and efficiency of learning strategies.

In this episode we cover his journey in becoming a doctor, what it was like when he quit medicine, the different types of learning and how we can learn effectively. his opinions on the modern education system, growing to 100k on Youtube and much much more.

Tilly is a Sex worker who has been in the industry for close to ten years. She also has a degree in History, has spoken out about sex worker rights, done an Amazing TED talk and is now a published author!

This is a bit different from a normal Driven young episode. Of course, it is educational and professional but I know I have young listeners out there so I wanted to make it clear in the intro.

This episode is all about the sex work industry. Tilly has been in the industry for close to ten years and she shares her story about how she got into it, what she has learned, how she wrote a book about it, the benefits and downside of sex work, her opinion on only fans and just an overall understanding of what that world is like.

This was a very interesting episode for me as I know next to nothing about this industry and space and I felt like I was going in very cold. I learned a lot and have a new perspective on workers in the industry and hopefully, you enjoy this episode.

There is some swearing, and we are covering topics such as sex and sex trafficking so please keep that in mind, but as I said this is still an educational episode.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast and today’s episode is all about how to find your identity.

In my opinion this is literally one of the most important things you can do in your 20’s and this conversation was amazing. I just finished editing it and hearing it for a second time it was even better so I am so excited to share this conversation with you.

Today I am joined by Forensic Psychologist Alison Cullen. Alison is an experienced psychologist who not only works in the field but also runs her own company. Her work involves Providing clinical intervention as well as reports for criminal matters (including psychological sentencing, management of offenders, fitness to plea/competency to stand trial and mental status at the time of offence), civil matters as well as child protection matters.

And todays episode is all about finding your identity. I really think this is one of the most important episodes I have done, this opened up so many thoughts and ideas for me personally, we make it super practical as well.

I won’t say anything else because I want you to experience it the same way I did as a host.

This is a bit of a different style that what you might be used to, it is a super casual chat. Probably less educational but it is a bit of a behind the scenes to what it is like working as a full time creator on TikTok.

So Olan is from the UK, he is an ex pro football player ( or soccer) and now he coaches younger footballers and has become a personality in Australian sports, interviewing, reacting and commentating. He talks about the differences between the Uk and Australia, reacts to reality TV shows and much more.

This chat is super casual, we discuss a lot about TikTok, how we both create content, how to deal with hate comments, cancel culture, Aussie culture and so much other stuff.

I should say there is more swearing than usual in this episode, but the conversation is still mature, I really loved this episode, I had a lot of fun with it and hopefully you enjoy listening.

Michelle works in corporate and is very good at what she does but that isn’t really apart of todays conversation. Michelle came on to share her story of working hard, becoming successful in the eyes of society and how this lead to her burning out, losing everything and almost becoming suicidal.

In her spare time she does one on one coaching and in this episode we explore important questions such as:

So what’s the deal why do we feel this way ?

Why are we working so hard and feeling like it’s never enough ?

Why are we burning out ?

Why are we thinking we should be happy living what looks like a great life but feeling stuck and out of place?

Why do we feel so insecure ?

Why do we need to please everyone ?

As per usual please DM me on instagram if you enjoy the show, your messages mean the world to me and please consider leaving a review or rating on Spotify or Apple podcast, whichever platform you use.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast and today I am joined by Student Edge co founder Jeremy Chetty.

Student Edge was started in 2003 by four students from Willetton Senior High School in Perth who recognised the gap between the school curriculum and essential life skills not taught in classrooms.

Of particular concern was the pressure placed on students to choose the subjects that would determine their career pathway—at 15—with little support besides a 600-page career profile book.

Student Edge helps students stretch their allowances further in the face of rising costs of living We help students navigate their way through student life and better prepare them for adulthood, with no hidden or political agendas.

I am sure you can see why I am excited to have Jeremy on the podcast, but not only is Student Edge an awesome company, Jeremy is super down to earth, he’s humble and an amazing presenter.

Today I am joined by David Montgomery or better known as Monty. We actually recorded this episode a while ago but there was a chainsaw in the background so I decided to get him back in for a re-record. The new one ended up being even better and my longest episode yet.

So who is Monty? Well outside of being an incredible and genuine human being he has built a multi-million dollar business and worked with many other companies to help grow their business.

This has allowed him to take the entire past year off to spend time with his kids and launch a new project focused on helping and guiding young people in business. This is called Watchwell and I highly highly recommend you all check it out, if you enjoy the episode and Monty you can book in to have a chat with him or even grab a coffee for free.

Monty is one of the most connected people I have meet so I would definitely take up this offer.

This episode is jam-packed with advice and conversations focused on young people, we cover so much and it seems to fly.

Shil is a Perth based speaker coach, speaker, MC and storyteller. He is also the first speaker coach in Perth to introduce Virtual Reality as a groundbreaking tool to develop your presentation skills.

Public Speaking has always been Shil’s greatest fear – so he knows exactly what it feels like when your body goes numb, your heart starts racing and your mind goes into overdrive! Despite living with a stutter, Shil trained himself to become a professional speaker and developed an intimate understanding of how to harness and control the fear of speaking.

In this episode, we talk about why communication skills are so important, how to start developing these skills, the importance of the little things, first impressions and the three ways we communicate as human beings.

A shoutout to Student Edge for sponsoring this episode, Shil has a course on Student Edge plus, where he breaks down a lot of what we discuss in this episode in far more detail. Go to www.Studentedge.org to sign up for free!

The number one skill people wish they were taught at school, how to manage their money. I love doing episodes like this as it is such an important skill and this episode is such a great all-rounder.

If you are bad with money, this episode is for you because today I am joined by Lacey Filipich. Saving half of every dollar she received from the age of 10. She bought her first property at 19 years old while in her second year of chemical engineering. She continued investing throughout her 20’s, adding shares and more properties to her portfolio to reach financial independence in her early 30’s.

This isn't rocket science guys. She didn't earn any more money than anyone you know. She didn't invest in crypto or anything fancy. This was done using simple habits, investing long term into relatively safe assets and understanding delayed gratification.

Lacey runs a company called Moneyschool.org if you want to check out her free stuff and she also has a fantastic workshop on Student Edge plus who is the sponsor of this episode. Go to Studentedge.org to get access to that.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today I am joined by Elizabeth Knight.

When Elizabeth graduated from high school, the world was her oyster - or so it seemed. She had a 99.85 ATAR, a full scholarship to the university, and was an all-rounded student. The opportunities for Liz’s future were endless!

But she was directionless and without a purpose. Liz had absolutely no idea what she wanted to do with her life, or who she wanted to become.

Ever since she’s been on a mission to transform the way that we educate young people about their careers, and transform our education system into one that is relevant, empowering and purposeful.

Liz founded Purposeful all the way back in 2018, touching hundreds of lives and building a community bigger and stronger than she could have ever imagined!

And today we go into her story, the frameworks and processes she uses to help young people figure out what they want to do.

Thanks to Student Edge for helping set up this interview, they have created a new online program that teaches all the practical life skills we should have learnt in school, skills I teach on this program but in a more structured format and awesome mentors. check them out at Studentedge.org.

As per usual please DM me on Instagram if you enjoy this episode and if you are in Sydney make sure you come along to my information night and check out my upcoming program. Now over to Elizabeth

This is my longest episode to date and such a unique and interesting conversation, I am really excited to share with you.

Baron is probably one of my all-time favourite TikTok creators. His content is unlike anyone else on the platform. He almost creates mini-movies layered with comedy, philosophy and usually a deep massage. As someone who wanted to be a filmmaker his content and ability to tell a story is phenomenal and he's inspired me to start creating similar videos around issues I want to communicate.

We actually met through his girlfriend Katrina who lives in Sydney and was introduced to me via a friend. If you have heard me talk about the 1000 doors concept you can see it in action right now.

In this episode, Baron and I talk a lot about TikTok, how the platform works, how he got started as a creator, his opinions on college and university, storytelling, psychology, growing old, marvel and much more.

Make sure you click the link below to sign up for Baron's new book when it comes out, I am really excited about it.

Louise is such a great person who's has championed myself and my message. She has introduced my to 4 people who came on my show so now it is her turn.

In this episode, we talk about a lot of different things. We start with her story, how she works with me to help them with their fashion and become a better version of themselves, the insecurities she encounters in men, then about halfway through we switch the conversation and discuss my other podcast called Content and consequences with Brent Sanders.

We go deep into sexual assault and how men can help solve the problem. This is a great episode for me but also for women who want to understand the struggles men face and how to help us. I really love this episode and I think it is so important.

Just a trigger warning for anyone who has dealt with sexual assault, we don't get into details but we discuss this topic a lot.

You all know I am passionate about changing the education system, I think the Australian education system and so many others are doing a very poor job at preparing us for the real world, and today I am joined by an expert who has been in the education system for over 35years.

But not the Australian education system. Finlands. The number one education system in the world.

Pasi Sahlberg is a Finnish educator and author. He has worked as a schoolteacher, teacher-educator, researcher, and policymaker in Finland and advised schools and education system leaders around the world. He served as a senior education specialist at the World Bank (Washington, DC), as a lead education expert at the European Training Foundation (Torino, Italy), as a director-general at the Finland’s Ministry of Education and Culture (CIMO), and as a visiting professor of Practice at Harvard University.

In 2013 his book “Finnish Lessons: What Can the World Learn from Educational Change in Finland” won the Grawemeyer Award (USA) for an idea that has potential to change the world. His most recent books include "Let the Children Play: How more play will save our schools and help children thrive" (2019, with William Doyle), "Finnish Lessons 3.0: What Can the World Learn from Educational Change in Finland” (2021), and "In Teachers We Trust: The Finnish way to world-class schools" (2021, with Tim Walker). Kirsten is unique because she decided to go to university at 26 years old and she actually created her own degree in a sense. She discovered two things she is passionate about, science and communication and studied those two subjects creating her own felid in a sense.

Today we talk about what Kirsten did before she was 26, how much travelling changed her life, how to get into STEM in non traditional ways, how to discover what to do with your life and immediate next steps to take and so much more.

I met James over a year ago through another good friend of mine, he co-owns and co-runs the largest podcasting even in the southern hemisphere called We are podcast. Which funny enough, I attended in 2018 and it was one of the reasons I started my podcast.

James is a mentor of mine who helps me run my business and is just an all-out incredible person. I had hoped to get him on the show in person one day but due to lockdown, I figured I would do a virtual interview with him.

James has written 3x bestselling books (translated in 6+ languages), host a top-rated podcast, and speak internationally to packed audiences. He has also been profiled in renowned publications – including Success Magazine, Money Magazine, and Entrepreneur – and featured on 500+ radio, podcast, and television shows, including The Today Show, The Gabby Reece Show, and Entrepreneurs on Fire.

He's worked with people in 20+ countries to:

» Generate 7-figures in new business revenue

» Launch #1 podcasts in multiple countries/categories

» Confirm 5-figure sponsorship deals for their business

» Win Emmy Awards

» Publish #1 international bestselling books, and

» FINALLY crack the code to scaling their income without scaling their workload!.

So as you can see James has achieved a lot, but how has he achieved that? Well, that brings us to the theme of today episode. Communication, networking and building relationships.

If you listen to the show often you know how important this skill is, so today James and I dive deep into why you should grow your network, how to grow your network, adopting the right mindset and practical next steps so you can get started.

This is an epic episode, I hope you enjoy it and please DM me and James if you get some value from it. The fact is thousands of people will listen to this episode on networking. But very few people will take action. So be one of the few, it's only a DM and James and I will answer, we don't bite.

Quick reminder my book is coming out so you can get a copy at the link below. Are you ready for uni? Why not take my quiz to find out, its free, takes less than 5 minutes and gives you a custom report.

‘The Best Bits From The Best Books’. That’s what we deliver with the show. Each and every week, we read a great non-fiction book and share the biggest lessons on our podcast.

We started the show back in June 2016 with four listeners: Ashton, Jonesy, and our mums. We really didn’t know what we were doing, but we just decided to hit ‘record’, then 20 minutes later we hit ‘stop’ and uploaded it to share with the world. We learnt as we went, getting better with each episode, making gradual improvements over time. Today, we’re spending somewhere in the realm of a combined ~25-30 hours for every episode: reading, dissecting, taking notes, making episode plans, recording, editing, writing blog posts, publishing, and sharing.

For two simple blokes who met while working behind the bar at a pub, we’ve been able to build an audience that listens to what we have to say, and we’ve met and interviewed some of our favourite authors and all-time heroes.

And that's what has lead them to create their own book.

In this episode, we talk about all things books and learning. I often get asked what books do I recommend, well this is an entire episode dedicated to that, featuring guys who have read a lot more than me. If you struggle reading this will be a great episode for you, and if you are looking for which books to read, this will be great for you also.

I am joined by Elle Wilmot who runs the Truly twenties Facebook group with over 13,000 members along with over 70,000 followers online. She is 23 and located in London, we have been virtual friends for a while as we are both putting out content for young people.

Her Facebook page has blown me away, it is the most engaged group I have seen in a long time with women in their 20s posting every day, asking for help, support, guidance and even meeting up with other girls building new friendships.

In the spirit of this, we both put a post up asking what questions you need help with to survive your 20's. So today's episode is her and I going through these questions giving both our perspectives on a variety of topics such as:

  • Relationships and if you should stay single in your early 20s
  • Travelling
  • Finding your passion
  • We hear anonymous confessions of people in their 20s
  • Advice from women in their 30s

And so much more.

Jake competed professionally on the World Surf League (WSL) tour for 11 years. He now coaches several WSL athletes, including 7x World Surfing Champion Steph Gilmore, while playing an active role at We Are Feel Good Inc. as Managing Director.

But what is we are feel good inc? They say that the best ideas are born out of necessity and when a group of six adventure seeking, outdoor lovers found themselves dreaming of a sunscreen that they could ‘feel good’ about – they decided to take matters into their own hands. It was around a campfire on a family surfing trip that three couples, including a doctor, a builder & a professional surfer, decided to stop dreaming, and start doing. After years of researching, developing, refining and testing, We Are Feel Good Inc. was finally launched.

In this episode Jake and I talk a lot about work ethic and how that allowed him to become a pro surfer, we talk about pursuing what you really want to do regardless of other peoples opinions, he shares his experiences as a pro surfer, why he got involved with this sunscreen company and the importance of recycling and looking after our oceans.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today is an amazing episode from Mr Gus Rowland.

A compassionate bloke, Gus wears his heart on his sleeve. But that heart was shattered the day news arrived that Angus - his friend, mentor and father figure - had taken his life. Angus seemed to have it all – a beautiful family, home, great job, the respect and friendship of many. But he had something else too. Inner worries that were eating away at him. And he never told anyone about it. The stigma around masculinity stopped too many from reaching out and asking for help when life felt tough.

Gus was driven to action. In 2016, he hosted three-part documentary series Man Up, lifting the lid on the relationship between masculinity, social isolation, mental health, and suicide.

Now, who is Gus? Well, I feel like this quote sums him up... “I want a society where everyone has a Gotcha4Life Mate. That go-to person you can open up to and rely on about anything. A world where we can seek help when life gets challenging, where we can build open and honest relationships and feel comfortable expressing ourselves, no matter what. So no one has to worry alone”

Gus is a father of three and runs the Gotcha4life foundation with one very specific goal. 0 suicides. In today's episode, we are talking about mental health and how you shouldn't fight this battle alone, why we need connections as humans and how you can start to build better connections with the people in your life.

I really love this episode and I hope you do as well, if you enjoy it I'd recommend checking out Gotcha4life, where you can nominate someone you have for life.

Welcome back to the driven Young podcast and today I am joined by Maddie and Ali, the creators of theherdapp.

You may have seen these two on TikTok, they are based in the U.S and have created a new social media app for gen z. Herd is a social space focused on community over comparison. By throwing out the social scale, empowering casual creativity, and providing experience autonomy, Herd aims to restore authentic expression. In an ecosystem that deprioritizes user well-being, Herd is the greener pasture; grown from honesty, empathy, respect, and discovery.

I have been following them online for a while now, I always read the comments on their videos and it is incredible what they have been able to achieve.

The startup space is incredibly difficult, especially for young women as you will hear us discuss, but it is even more difficult creating a social media app.

In this episode we talk all things social media, why it is so addictive and harmful, the good and the bad, how to manage your relationship with it, how companies like Instagram are heading in the wrong direction, how the girls were able to start this company and the struggles they faced and much much more.

Today I am joined by a really great friend of mine Annelise McCarthy. Annie has been listening to the podcast since I first started it and reached out to me about 8 months ago. Since then we have become really good friends, she is so inspiring and such a perfect guest for this show.

Annelise is a women's public speaking coach slash law student and this episode is all about public speaking. Annie has been public speaking for over 14 years, she represented Australia and placed 5th in the world for a public speaking championship, and has now started her own business coaching women!

Guys you will hear me talk about it but I cannot express how valuable this skill is. Many people believe public speaking and communication is the most valuable skill you can develop and many people say it is the highest paid profession in the world.

In this episode we cover how Annie fainted at her first speaking event, her journey with the university, facing pressure, her thoughts on what we should do after high school. We then go into the mindset of public speaking, why so many people fear it but why you shouldn't, how to build confidence then we talk about practical tips and strategies you can use to improve your presentations including a simple storytelling framework. And of course much much more.

I have been doing A LOT of public speaking training this year with the company Empower U which is a life skills program for Young Adults. It is kind of like this podcast in an event format so I have a lot to say on this topic. By the way, if anyone is interested in coming along to an Empower U event, I would love to have you! Just go to www.drivenyoung.com/eu and you can get 60% of the ticket price, we run events all around Australia. I will be talking more about that in the future as well.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today we are talking real estate and property. Is it possible for young people to get into the market? And why should we?

To discuss this I am joined by Andrew Bodnar, co-founder of Kingdom Development. With over 16 years of experience, Andrew is a veteran of property investment. His ability to spot new market opportunities lead him to start (and sell) his own real estate company and financial consulting firm, before applying his expertise to property development.

Last year alone, Andrew and his team purchased over 111 properties, they now have over half a billion dollars worth of real estate in Kingdom Development and the company has been evaluated at $75 million dollars.

So point is, Andrew knows what he is talking about, and best of all he is super passionate about helping young people get into the market, they do this by offering a crowdsourcing solution where people can purchase shares of property without needing a massive unattainable deposit, but we will discuss that in the episode.

In this episode we cover:

  • How Andrew got started in property
  • Is it possible for young people to get into the market?
  • The three steps to get started
  • Developing the right mindset
  • His crowdsourcing strategy
  • Our favorite investment books

and much more.

This podcast is sponsored by Kingdom Development and I really hope you get some value out of this conversation. I learned so much from Andrew and as you will hear at the end if you are in Australia and want to begin your property journey he is more than happy to help you, he even gives out his personal phone number and email at the end of the show.

Pace is a super talented musician and artist who has build a following over 100,000 followers online. Even though we only met about 5 months ago, he has become a really close friend of mine and I am so excited for this episode.

This is a really interesting episode, to date it is my longest episode and the majority of it is Pace sharing his story. He shares his story of becoming a musician, moving to Europe, learning a new language, having a fresh restart, dealing with self-doubt, and struggling with imperfection. through this story I point out many lessons we can take away and I just find it really fascinating if I am being honest.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast and today we are discussing a very serious topic.

In this episode, I am joined by Maddie Heather, a sexual assault survivor, and host of the Reclaim me podcast. In this episode, Maddie and I discuss all things around sexual crimes relating it to young people in an easy-to-understand way.

This is a topic I am passionate about covering, so much so I actually have an entirely new podcast dedicated to sexual assault education with Brent Sanders. He was also episode 43 of the Driven Young podcast so feel free to check that out, called "Consent and Consequences".

However, this is a similar conversation but Maddie is a survivor herself and brings a younger female point of view which I think is very important. I hope you enjoy this episode, this conversation can be confronting but is very important for people to hear.

As per usual, please DM me or Maddie on Instagram if you enjoyed the episode, please leave a rating and review on Apple podcasts if you are enjoying the show and all the links you need on the top link in the show notes.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today is another great episode specifically targeting those of you in Gen z who are feeling a bit lost in life.

Today I am joined by Uncle Nathan. Nathan is a 19-year-old business student with a passion to help young people with what we should be learning in school, specifically mental health and financial literacy.

He has created the brand uncle Nathan and shares blog posts, graphics and his podcast to his audience of young people wanting to learn more.

Nathan got ahold of my phone number, sent me a video message, we grabbed a coffee and now here we are.

In this episode we cover:

  • Nathans schooling experience
  • How he felt like his identity was wrapped up in his marks
  • The only decision is the wrong decision
  • why getting control of your finance is so important
  • The strategies we both use
  • Inflation, compound interest, long term investing, ETFs

and so much more.

This episode definitely turned into a money and finance episode but there is still so much gold around mindset, comparison, impostor monster and more.

As per usual, if you enjoy this episode please DM me or go find Nathan and DM him letting him know what you think, he is more than happy to have a chat and answer any questions. Please consider leaving a review on Apple podcasts, that really helps me out and you can help support the show by buying me a coffee with the link at the bottom of the show notes.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today we are talking about all things happiness and gratitude!

So many people are so negative, the news is so negative and so much of what we consume is negative and all of this can have a serious effect on us.

So today I have brought on Happiness Expert and researcher Declan Edwards. I met Declan on Clubhouse and he blew my friends and I away with some of the stuff he was saying. So much so we have since become friends and I invited him on the podcast to share his knowledge with you all!

Declan is the founder of the company BU, he has a bachelor of health, a Postgraduate Certificate in Positive Psychology and has Practitioner Certifications in NLP, CBT + Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. His entire company is based on the science of happiness (which I know sounds bizarre) but they do some seriously awesome stuff in the company.

In today's episode we get into:

  • Declans Story of how he didn't do what his parents wanted him too
  • The top regret of the dying
  • why motivation isn't always good
  • Social media and mental health
  • being vulnerable
  • What the goal of your 20s should be
  • How to focus on the positive rather than the negative
  • And so much more...

This episode also comes with a gift, I have added two downloadable PDF's with some super powerful questions we discuss on this episode, they are completely free and you can find the link in the show notes.

Join the Coaching Program: http://drivenyoung.com/coach
Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today I joined by Alasdair Barrie. We met on Clubhouse, hit it off and had some fun chats so I decided to invite him onto the show.

Alisdair is a marketing growth hacker / Crypto Trader / Relationships dude who has built a following of over 750,000 followers online. He has worked in over 10 industries and helped run one of the most successful marketing campaigns on TikTok, getting free marketing from Dixie Damellio and other massive influencers.

I should preference, this is a hardcore episode. Alasdair is super into personal development, he has very strong opinions on university, he wakes up super early and works very hard. I usually stay away from episodes like this because I have a love-hate relationship with the personal development world, I think it is amazing but can also be very toxic. However, I do know a lot of people will benefit from this episode, hopefully, give you some motivation, a slap in the face and a much need perspective shift.

I don't agree with everything he says in the episode, and you don't have to either, but this is why I love bringing on new people, I love hearing how everyone lives their life and I am sure there are a lot of things in this episode you will love.

So there was your warning, as this gets episode is full-on, but super valuable.

We get into:

  • Personal development
  • Why Alasdair heavily disagrees with the University system,
  • The importance of growing your network
  • How so many people have a victim mindset
  • The difference between being alone and lonely

And so much more.

As per usual feel free to DM me on Instagram if you enjoyed this episode, and I did want to let you know I am opening up my new 6-week coaching program to new applicants. If you enjoy the show and want to take it to the next level and spend time with me and other awesome young people, head over to www.Drivenyoung.com/coach, that is www.drivenyoung.com/coach to apply. Spots are very limited as I want to keep the group small so I can spend time with everyone.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today I am joined by an incredibly smart woman.

Dr Majeda Awawdeh, the founder of Global Education Academy, has completed a PhD degree at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Mathematics Education and Cognitive Load Theory. She also holds a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics and Computer Sciences, a Bachelor degree in Education, and a Masters Degree (with high distinction) in Mathematics Education.

She is also the author of an incredible book I highly recommend called "Who cares about Maths anyway?, Why Schools are Failing to Teach – An Analytical Overview of the Education System". I read this and learnt so much in such a short time.

It is really awesome to have someone like this come on the show who can back up so much of what I talk about with years of research, data and statistics, I also love that she was a teacher and still is, because it helps get across my point, that it isn't the teacher's fault or the school's fault, it is the education system as a whole which is failing to teach.

If you agree with my beliefs about the school system or want to find out more about it then this is a great episode for you...

Today we cover:

  • Her journey as a math teacher
  • Her transition from turkey to Australia and how different the education system is
  • Why giving students a "C" or an average mark is pointless
  • What school is failing to teach us
  • Why teachers are so important and why the standard for teaching is too low
  • How people struggle to think for themselves
  • Importance of creativity

And so much more.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and guys I am so excited to announce, today is my first ever sponsored episode.

After 50 episodes, I have refused all sponsor offers as I am super careful with brands I want to promote. This is how I plan to use sponsors, rather than do a 30-second ad read, I prefer to bring on the founder or CEO and learn about their story and provide as much value as possible.

So today I am joined by Blake, the CEO of Bamboo. Bamboo is a micro investments platform that allows anyone to seamlessly purchase digital assets, like Gold and Bitcoin. It's an easy, secure, and effective way to participate in this growing asset class. All you need is a mobile phone and a bank account to get started.

So at the time of releasing this episode, bitcoin has been on fire and everyone wants to know more about cryptocurrency. Tesla recently invested $1.5 Billion into Bitcoin along with some other major companies. Hence why I wanted to bring on Blake, to deep dive into Bitcoin and Crypto.

Today we get into

  • How did Bitcoin originate?
  • What is Bitcoin and crypto?
  • The opportunity crypto presents
  • Why it is so volatile?
  • The difference between crypto and our current currency
  • Inflation
  • Why bitcoin is like digital gold

And so much more.

If you are in Australia and want to get started investing in crypto, gold or silver, I highly recommend checking out get bamboo, they make it so easy for first-time investors to set up and start to dip their toes into the water. This is just as much a savings app as it is investing, think of it as a digital piggy bank. You slowly put away money over a long period of time. So if you want to start investing or create a better savings habit around your money, click the link in the description, sign up and you will get $10 for free, plus you will be helping me out as supporting the show at the same time, I personally use this app and love it so far.

As per usual guys, feel free to DM or Blake on Insta if you enjoyed this episode, make sure you follow me on Instagram along with the Driven Young Instagram, anything you need is in the link in bio.

I should quickly mention this episode is not financial advice in any way shape or form, as the information or advice is given does not take into account your particular objectives, financial situation or needs. You should, before acting on the advice, consider the appropriateness of the advice, having regard to your objectives, financial situation and needs. Bitcoin is HIGHLY volatile as we will mention in the episode.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast and today I am joined by student counsellor Olivia Gabriella. And in this episode, we are talking about mental wellbeing, how and why Gen z are going through a pandemic of mental illnesses.

This is a hot topic on this show because I believe it is one of the biggest problems young people are facing right now. Every young person I meet seems to have a form of mental illness or knows many people who do, so why is this?

Today we go into Olivias story, why she does what she does, what she is seeing with the students who come to her, why men have such high rates of suicide, we get into school, have a healthy conversation around relationships for gen z and much much more....

Also I am excited to announce I have landed my first sponsor for this podcast, so that episode will be coming out soon and I am really excited to see what you all think. This is a big for the show as the more money I can bring in the more I can reinject back into the podcast and business to help it grow and reach more people, so keep an eye out for that!

As per usual, reach out to me or Olivia on insta if you have any questions or are enjoying the show, please considering leaving a rating or review on Apple podcasts and finally I have created a buy me a coffee link for anyone who wanted to help support the show, so if you want to buy me a coffee and help support the show just click on the link at the very bottom of the description.

Today I sit down and have a great conversation with Aaryan Shah. Aaryan is actually the younger brother of Sachin who episode 36 on the show.

Aaryan was born with a condition called Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy affects body movement, muscle control, muscle coordination, muscle tone, reflex, posture and balance. Basically, he does not have full control of his muscles, he uses a wheelchair to get around... however Aaryan is mentally fine, as you will see in this episode he is a really smart dude.

I was inspired by Aaryan after hearing all that he had accomplished at such a young age, whilst being born with this condition. Aaryan has gone surfing, he has climbed mountains, he has done a TEDx talk and I am just scratching the surface.

I think the common theme of this episode is so much of your limitations in life are in your mind. And that is exactly what we cover in today's episode. We go into his story, how he has achieved all he has, how he stays positive and continues to grow, how he makes friends, how we are all lucky we just have to take advantage of that luck and so much more.

As per usual, reach out to me on insta if you have any questions or are enjoying the show, please considering leaving a rating or review on Apple podcasts and finally I have created a buy me a coffee link for anyone who wanted to help support the show, so if you want to buy me a coffee and help support the show just click on the link at the very bottom of the description.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and man do we have an awesome episode today. As you would have seen by he title today we are talking stocks and how to get into the stock market.

This conversation is so important and we are covering everything you need to know to get started, and we are covering it in the simplest way I can. Today I am joined by Mitchell Stone, he is an experienced broker who has been in the industry for over 15 years. Now the founder and CEO of Initial Capital, Mitchell is passionate about providing education about the stock market to those who are looking to start investing. He knows how confusing most brokers make investing seem, when in reality it is very simple.

NOW, it is worth noting, Mitchell and I have spent many hours putting together a gift for you. We have basically summarised this entire episode into a short PDF document that teaches you everything you need to know about getting into the stock market. And that will be available for you for free, just click the link in the description, I will also put it in my instagram bio.

In this episode and the PDF we talk about:

  • What are stocks?
  • Why does anyone buy stocks
  • What are and how big are dividends?
  • What securities are there?
  • What are stocks worth
  • Why do stock prices change?
  • What are bear and bull markets?
  • When should you buy and sell stocks?
  • What is the stock exchange?
  • Who may buy Stocks and Bonds and how do you get started?

Plus I talk about Tesla, we talk about how the Wolf of Wall Street did what he did (illegally), crypto, why we can't print money, inflation and we break down everything you need to get started.

So by the end of this episode, there is no excuse, you can start dipping your toes into the market even if you have $0 in your bank account and we will teach you how. I provide a lot of information on this show, but what is important for you as a listener is to implement and do what myself and the guests teach. So right now, go download the PDF we have created for you for free and take action for what we teach in this episode.

As per usual please DM me on Instagram if you enjoyed this episode, make sure to leave a rating or review on Apple podcasts and if you get any value out of the show and want to help support me I have set up a buy me a coffee link, where you can buy me a coffee to help me out as I don't make any money from the show right now.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast!

Today is another amazing episode with a good mate of mine Ryan Herrington aka that Diet Geezer. ThatDietGeezer is an online coach on a mission to empower people to break their limiting beliefs and realise they can achieve they want in this life!

As you will hear in the episode, he came about this after losing over 23 kg in less than 18 months, not through some fancy diet but through mindset, self-education and a coach. I really love the opening to this when Ryan shares his story as you can hear him get quite emotional. He retells his story of giving up his dream to become a pro footballer, to partying doing drugs and drinking 4 nights a week for 6 years. It is a really awesome story and I think so relatable to so many young people out there, such an easy trap to fall into and I hope you all take away.

In this episode we get into Ryans story, how he was sucked into the party lifestyle for so long and his life become muddled, we talk about the importance of travelling, why mentors are so important, personal development, poverty, the 5:30 club which is how we met, how he lost so much weight, how one book completely turned his life around and so much more.

As per usual guys, if you enjoy this episode please reach out and let Ryan know, he would love to receive your messages, the same goes for me shoot me through a DM, I'd love to have a chat.... just a reminder I have set up a Buy me a coffee link in the description at the bottom if you wanted to help support the show and if you haven't already make sure you leave a rating or review on Apple podcast, it will really help me out.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast, today is a super interesting episode, if you are a fan of the show I think you will really enjoy this episode as I feel like it almost summarises so many of the key points I talk about so regularly.

Today I am joined by Monique Renea Buggè, a 22-year-old founder of the tutoring company Love2learntutoring. Monique reached out to me and we had a chat about some things and I realised how switched on she was when it comes to school and education so I invited her on the show. If you are a student still in high school this episode is going to be so good for you and I'm super excited for you to listen.

Today we cover our beliefs on the schooling system, how we are pressured to chase high marks at the cost of our mental health, how we should be learning at school catering to the 4 learning modalities, what Monique is seeing with her students and the ride of anxiety, ADHD and depression, why parents need to stop sheltering their kids, how to choose your school subjects, entrepreneurship, even how to set up a powerful saving strategy and much more.

As per usual please DM me on Instagram if you enjoyed this episode and please DM Monique, she would love that, links are in the description.

I have also added a "Buy me a coffee" donation link in the podcast description at the bottom, as you guys know, I work full time on this podcast 6 days week and I don't make any money yet and I have had some people ask about how they can support the show, so if you wanted to support me and what I am doing feel free to buy click on buy me a coffee link, any dollar amount helps.... if you want to support me and the show but you don't have any money then please just leave a review on apple podcasts, share it with your friends or DM me on instagram.

Today I am joined by Mande Dante. Mandy is the CEO & Founder of Flourish Girl. Mandy is an ex-speech pathologist, TEDx Speaker and an Australian Accredited Facilitator. To date, Mandy has worked with over 4000 young people across Australia.

Her passion originated from being a speech pathologist, where she empowered children with a range of communication disorders to find their voice. Towards the end of 2016, she found that the rate of depression, anxiety and eating disorders amongst teenage girls were on a rise and it was in that moment that she found herself shifting her passion and focus towards giving teenage girls a voice.

So her beliefs and her company are super aligned with what this show is all about and today we get into a great conversation about what she is seeing with young girls at schools, mental illnesses and the pressure these girls are dealing with, we go into what she covers in her program, the games, the exercises and activities they run, we talk about affirmations, spending time with yourself, some of the difficulties woman face in the workforce and so much more...

Find out more about the online university we spoke about!

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast!

Today I am joined by a good friend of mine Scott Mckeon. Scott is the co-founder of a tech startup called Espresso Displays. He has created a super-thin, portable touch screen monitor that connects directly to your Mac or PC. This is a sick product, I am a massive fan of what he has created and super keen for you to hear his story.

Today we dive into a bunch of different topics... We get into Scott's story, how he came up with the idea and brought it to market by raising over $500,000 through Kickstarter, we talk about his uni experience as an engineer, we discuss a book project the two of us are working on, we dive deep into the rise of the freelancer, plus how we think education should be taught, and much much more.

This is an awesome conversation and Scott has generously offered to give away two package deals of his tech product to the listeners of this show valued at $650 USD each. This is actually crazy and literally, all you have to do is fill out a form which will take you 2 minutes.

I am not getting paid for this, he offered to give them away for free and I thought it would be a sick opportunity for two of you to win something awesome just by being a listener of the show. So my advice is before you forget to click on the link in the description at the top, fill out the form and you could be in to win $650 USD worth of tech.

The link will also be in my Tik Tok bio and Instagram bio, but for 3 minutes of your time, I highly recommend you take advantage of this.

We discuss the giveaway briefly at the end of the ep as well but others don't forget to DM me on Instagram, DM Scott on Instagram if you enjoyed this episode and remember to sign up through the link in the description.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast!

Today we are talking about job interviews and how to crush it so you can land whatever job you go for. I've only done a few interviews in my life but the ones I did I was massively underqualified and actually landed them. I have also been on the other side and interviewed many people now so I have both perspectives.

However today we will be learning from Ishana Pilger. Ishana is the general manager of Empower U, a company have partnered up with and am a massive fan of. The founder of this company actually came on the show and is one of my all-time favourite interviews, episode 32.

I saw Ishana do a presentation on job interviewing techniques and was super impressed, I then quickly realised how valuable this would be for you guys so I asked her to come on.

She mentions it in the episode but, she has applied and successfully won many jobs and internships including a recent internship with Google, from which 2300 people applied.

This episode is super tactical, we take you through the entire journey of a job interview, from making a resume, to how to dress, to first impressions, having some simple questions prepared, a simple storytelling formula you can use to answer their questions, all the way to following up after the interview is done.

So definitely stick around for his one, I think there is so much value here that could massively benefit you for when you apply for your next position.

As per usual guys, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram if you enjoyed this episode, feel free to reach out to Ishana as well if you have any questions and just a reminder I have created a goal-setting template for you all, so if you are struggling to set your goals I highly recommend you check it out, it is free and the link is in the description.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast!

A happy new year and good riddance to 2020. In celebration of the New year today we are going deep into goal setting and how to set and actually achieve goals this year.

Goal setting is a fundamental part of success. I promise you anyone you look up to in life who is where you want to be, has clearly defined goals set and an actionable plan to achieve them. Goal setting is seriously so important if you have big plans for your life and want to make an impact.

I am going to be doing an entire weekend with my mates going through videos to help plan out my goals for 2021. In my opinion, these will be two of the most important days for me this year.

Today I am joined by Jessica Emily, she is an Entrepreneur who is dedicated to teaching you the tools to own your thinking and help you face the challenges of the world. Having started and sold multiple successful companies she now coaches people around their mindset, limiting beliefs holding them back and has run multiple workshops all around goal setting.

Now, this episode is split up into two parts, the first part we talk about why goal-setting, limiting beliefs and ideas for how you should set goals and the second part we get practical and give you step by step instructions on what to do.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and today we are talking Finance and Tik Tok.

If you are a regular listener of the show or follow me on Tik Tok you would know I do all my interviews in person. I have had opportunities to interview some massive people online, but I really try and keep it in person, for an array of reasons. However, I did break that rule for this guest.

Today I am joined by Taylor Price also known as Pricelesstay online, she is an online influencer who specialises in financial education for Gen Z. She currently has over 900,000 followers on Tik Tok and close to 100,00 on Instagram.

Now finance is one of the biggest things I think school should teach us, and in this conversation, we get into some simple finance tips you can use now, why Taylor started getting into finance, we talk about Tik Tok and how she started and grew her account, we get into the good parts and bad parts of Tik Tok and so much more.

I just want to emphasis how impressive it is she has grown her accounts to this size. Growing on social media by putting out educational content is really hard. Most people aren't on Tik Tok to be educated and people are far less likely to follow you even when you have a video go viral. So to have almost reached a million followers through educational content is a massive achievement and we go into how she did this in the episode.

As per usual, if you enjoyed this episode or any others please reach out and DM, I would love to get. your feedback or answer any questions, Next weeks episode is going to be a solo episode where I break down my 2020 and go into detail about my life and what I learnt this year along with an episode all about goal setting, so make sure you stay tuned for this.

Welcome back to the Driven Young podcast and I am going to cut the music for this intro.

Today we are covering a very serious and heavy topic. But I would argue this could be my most important episode yet.

Today I am joined by school Brent Sanders.

Brent Sanders is one of Australia’s most respected communicators in the field of workplace harassment, bullying and discrimination. He also presents lectures throughout Australia on sexual crime, criminal profiling and personal safety in senior secondary schools and universities.

Following a distinguished career in the Police Force, he started his own business presenting seminars and lectures on workplace harassment, conflict resolution and offender psychology.

So Brent came to my school years ago and did a presentation on sexual crime and assault, splitting up the boys and girls into separate groups. To date, my friends and I still talk about this presentation and it highlighted a massive issue I was so completely unaware of at the time. I talk a lot about what I think school should be teaching us and I am sure by the end of this episode you will be as shocked as me that school doesn't cover this.

Throughout the episode Brent highlights the importance of educating young people around this topic, what he has seen over 25 years of presenting this information at schools having been involved in a number of sexual crime cases, why stranger danger has conditioned us to believe if we stay away from strangers we are safe, what the law defines sexual assault as, the consequences of committing a crime like this and so much more.

Today I am joined by 21 year old new author Logan Ayers. Logan is a legend, he has just published his first fiction novel at the age of 21 called "an outsider on the inside".

A unique coming of age tale that follows the atypical ambivert - Zac Kallest. Zac is, by most definitions, normal and he likes it that way.

Being normal means you can steer clear from the ever painful social structures of high school and can all together avoid the unnecessary drama.

But as a moment forces him into the social spotlight, he is required to navigate his way through waves of teenage gossip, family fuelled embarrassment and just plain old puberty, in an effort to unearth a way back to consistent normality.

This is something I am sure so many of you can relate to going through highschool. We often talk about how as young people we wear multiple different masks depending on who we are with and struggle to just show our truest self based on fear of judgment.

So today Logan and I dive deep into this topic, we talk about his experience at an all-boys private school, how school crushed his love for creativity and how important creativity is, we get into networking and how to meet new people, how he got a full-time job 6 months before graduating his degree and so much more.

As per usual, if you enjoy this episode, please reach out to myself or Logan on Instagram, Logan would love to have a chat with you and so would I, please consider leaving a rating on Apple podcasts and make sure you are following myself and the Driven Young Podcast on Instagram to stay updated.

Today I am joined by an amazing young woman who reached out to me on Instagram. She is only 18 years old and is crushing it, showing all the qualities I talk about and teach on this show.

Meerae Mulla is currently studying a business degree at the University of Sydney and running an online t an online tutoring company who aims to revolutionise the way tuition occurs.

We talk about university life and what you need to do to prepare yourself for a job, we get into work ethic and so much more.

I have a lot of respect for Meerae, she reached out to me about coming on the show and really impressed me. I do my show in person and it can be very confronting sitting in-front of a mic with cameras pointing at you, especially for someone so young.

Definitely stick around for this episode, I feel like it really picks up and we get in flow about 15-20 minutes in and if you are a fan of the show I know you will enjoy this a-lot.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast.

Today is another episode all-around mental health for young people, how it is so prominent today and how we can deal with it.

I am joined by Andrew Woodhead, a product manager currently working at batyr, a for-purpose preventative mental health organisation, created and driven by young people for young people. He is also the author of the beautifully illustrated short story book called LIGHT. The book explains how depression can take hold, what it feels like and presents proven strategies that anyone can try, learn and practice to improve their mental health.

Woody and I have a great conversation all along this theme and dive deep into some stories I have heard about kids in school, how I think mental health has become way to normalized with young people to the point it can be detrimental and Woody shares his experiences and practical tips we can use to try help those around us.

This is a super important topic, mental health is at an all-time high for our generation and it is crazy the stories I am hearing from boys and girls in high-school.

As per usual, if you get any value from this episode or from the show please consider leaving a review it only takes you 2 minutes and really helps the show reach more people, let me know what you think of this episode and don’t hesitate to reach out to me on or Woody on Instagram.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast…

Today’s episode I have a seriously amazing guy on. He is a Travel vlogger with over 500,000 followers online and one of the most down to earth people I have met.

Luke Damant reached out to me a while back as a listener of the show just to let me know he really enjoyed it, we chatted a bit and I invited him out to lunch.

Since then he has come along to some meetups I’ve been too, he has joined the 5:30 am club and started his own club where he lives.

As I mentioned Luke is a 20-year-old dude who basically travels around making videos and getting paid to do so. Well this was before COVID, but now he has started a digital marketing agency to help others grow their brand the way he has grown his.

In this conversation, we get into his story and we start off with a Bang. A literally bang as Luke goes into detail about a horrific accident he had in India which left him nearly without a hand, and how that experience affected him. We get into how to grow a following like he has, how he was able to travel for free leveraging social media, we talk about Tik Tok culture, Youtube, being grateful, how to stop caring what others think and so much more.

Please note Lukes attitude throughout this episode. As we are discussing his near-death experience, he is laughing and having a good time talking about, he is almost grateful I would say. He talks about how by setting no expectations you can’t be disappointed and as a result, you will always be grateful for what you have, and you can really hear him living this when he retells his stories.

As per usual, if you get any value from this episode or from the show please consider leaving a review, let me know what you think and don’t hesitate to reach out to me on or Luke Instagram, Luke reached out to me and now he’s here on the show!

Today I have another awesome episode for you, with another amazing young guest. I have loved bringing on younger people lately and this episode is a great example of why.

Today I am joined by a good friend, Sachin. Sachin is one half of the “Sachin and Adam show” podcast which is a podcast that explores the lives of two university students curious about learning from interesting people. Adam Miller and Sachin Shah have conversations with a diverse range of guests including entrepreneurs, philosophers, activists and fitness icons to name a few.

Sachin is a Sydney uni student who is passionate about social justice and closing the gap of inequality and today we chat about his life, how growing up with a brother with cerebral palsy inspired him to do more, how he travelled around the world after school with his best mate, starting his podcast, how he has built hundreds of amazing connections using a simple coffees strategy, we, later on, get into economics and break down a communist society and a capitalistic society and so much more.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast

I believe there are 3 essential things we should be learning in school that every single student will use in their life.

  1. Financial management and how to manage money
  2. Understanding how to manage relationships
  3. Nutrition and what we should be putting in our bodies

Today’s episode we are diving deep into number three. I have brought on an incredible nutritionist to discuss health, food and overall nutrition for young people like yourself.

Alice Bleathman is an Accredited Practising Dietitian & Nutritionist.

Bloated belly? Stressed and confused about what to eat? Alice has been there. Having been personally diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Alice knows the struggles of people face first hand, which is why she is so passionate about helping people on their own health journey. Her approach is supportive, comprehensive and inclusive. The perfect mix of sugar and spice.

And in this episode, we are discussing all things health and nutrition. Specifically for gen z.

We get into why health is so important, the benefits of a good diet (aside from just looking good), we talk about veganism, the goods and the bad, how 83% of people are dying from preventable causes, why we are so addicted to sugar, we give some practical tips so you can improve your health now and so much more.

As per usual, if you want to find out more about Alice, her links are in the bio, don’t forget to reach out to me on Instagram with any questions and if you get any value out of the show please consider leaving a review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast.

Today is an interesting conversation with a very interesting man. I have really loved getting younger people on the show lately, even though they lack the experience of some of my older guests I feel like they bring much more relatability for you and me.

If you are a regular listener you may have heard me briefly speak about a project involving a retreat and a book I am working on.

Recently I was introduced to a guy who was running a retreat with 9 other people. The goal of the retreat is to go away and together we are writing a book for advice we would give our 18-year-old selves. Which is essentially what this podcast is all about, the advice I would give to my younger self.

Today’s guest is the guy who ran the retreat, Joe Wehbe. Joe is a psychology student turned non-for-profit worker, turned real estate agent, turned to business owner and connector

He is a close friend of mine and in today's chat I would say there are two parts to this episode

Part one, we spend time discussing what to do after school, Joe shares his experience with university and we get into why we think society is pushing us into careers we don’t enjoy. We talk about Joe got a high ATAR and felt like his identity was wrapped up in his marks, causing him to give up his dream of film making.

Part two we dive into some amazing and simple concepts that will literally change your life. I don’t say this lightly, but I have used these concepts in my life and has definitely changed my life. We discuss the 1000 doors concept, why you need to focus on an audience of none as well as many others.

If you enjoy this episode or the show please consider leaving a review, I don’t make any money off this show and I work on it full time and leaving a review really helps me out. Also, feel free to DM on Instagram, I’m super responsive there and love to chat with you all.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast…

Today’s episode we are switching it up. No more business or personal development, this episode is all about masculine and feminine energies, relationships between men and women and understanding that we are different and need to approach each other differently.

After having some videos blow up on Tik Tok about masculinity, showing emotions, I received hundreds of comments about how grateful people where that someone was talking about this.

So I decided to dedicate an entire episode to this topic. In this episode, I bring on Tylah Jane who is a midwife delivering babies full time. I met her at a retreat and we got into a deep discussion about masculine and feminine energies and I thought this would be a great conversation for you guys to hear.

This ended up being an awesome conversation that is really important for young people to be aware of.

For some reason, school doesn’t teach us anything about relationships and how to handle them, yet everyone who graduates school will need to have those skills for life.

So that is what this episode is all about!

As per usual, please consider leaving a rating or review on the show if you are enjoying it or get any value of it, and feel free to reach out to me on Instagram to let me know what you thought of this episode.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast!

Today we are talking business and entrepreneurship. More specifically how to start a business and learn about business from Australias number 1 business coach.

Dale Beaumont is best known as an Award-Winning Technology Entrepreneur, International Speaker and the Author of 19 Best-Selling Books.

Having started his first business at the age of 19, Dale went onto build three different million dollar companies before the age of thirty. He now runs Business Blueprint, an education company designed to help fellow entrepreneurs build the business of their dreams.

As a result of Dale’s success, he has been interviewed on Today Show, Mornings, Sky News Business, ABC Radio as well as being featured in over 100 newspapers and magazines, including Forbes, The Huffington Post, Business Insider, Gizmodo, Men’s Health and GQ.

in 2007 Dale became a father and decided to start travelling with his young family. Following the formula, two months work one month adventure, Dale with his wife Katherine and two boys have now travelled to over 85 countries. This includes stepping foot on all seven continents (yes even Antarctica), visiting all five Disneyland parks and volunteering in several orphanages.

So you can see why I am excited to have Dale on the show. He is one of the most knowledgeable people on the planet when it comes to small business. And in this episode, we hear his story then dive headfirst into exactly how to start a business. We talk about all the steps involved and break it down for you so you can follow it like a recipe.

More importantly, we discuss how to actually learn about business. I am heavily against business degrees at uni and whenever I talk about how useless and outdated they are people ask me “how do we learn about business then”. In this episode, we will show you how

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast and I am just going to say off the bat this is probably my favourite episode I have done so far.

It is definitely top 3 but it aligns to heavily with what this show is all about I am so excited about what you are about to listen too.

If you listened to the last episode I did with Dale, you will know he mentioned starting a personal development company for teenagers with his friend back in 2001. Well, this is his friend Brent Williams.

And 20 years later that company is going strong. As Co-Founder and Head Presenter of Empower U, Brent has been busy helping young people go through the life-changing seminar across Australia and around the world. At 19, he co-wrote the best selling book, The World At Your Feet, with Dale Beaumont

Brent is also a highly sought after keynote speaker for both the corporate and school environments, teaching the simple yet powerful success principles he teaches at Empower U. Brent has been nominated twice for the Young Australian of the Year, and has won the Generation Y Young Leaders Award with Dale for their work with Empower U.

Empower you is all about teaching young people practical life skills, and I am in love with what Brent is doing. In this episode we get into his story and why he started the company.

He teaches us the 6 pillars of success every young person should know, we talk about mental health and why so many people are suffering from it, Brent shares with us a social media experiment he did to help remove our addition to phones, we get into why school is failing us and what we should be learning… and that is just scratching the surface….

This is the longest episode I have ever done because we just couldn’t stop talking, we spoke for another hour off camera and he invited me to attend his upcoming events and see how he runs things.

So if you are new here you have chosen an epic episode to start on, and if you are a regular listener I know you are going to love this. If you can, try to give the entire episode a listen, we cover some important stuff at the end.

In this episode, I sit down with Young Entrepreneur of the year Carlos Ferri an entrepreneur who in the space of just over a decade has built an empire of successful high-growth companies with services in transport, logistics, warehousing, HR and labour-hire.

All under the banner of Zapala Corp, Ferri's enterprises have a global presence, meet untapped needs, are scalable and lift the efficiency of the industries they're in.

Ten years ago he made the decision to come to Australia from Brazil and decided to learn English. He realised about 12 months in, his English was getting better and he made a decision to start up Zapala, 10 years later the has more than 100 employees in Australia, Singapore and Brazil.

My chat with Carlos today is fantastic, I am not even sure what to say because we cover so many topics. We start off with his story and how he started from nothing when he moved to Australia, how he got to where he is, understanding how business works and the mindset we need to have and so much more.

Carlos is actually the second Brazillian I have had on the show, Gabriella from episode 18 was also from Brazil and man the two of the work hard. As someone who grew up in New Zealand and Australia, I think I often forget how lucky we have it and how much opportunity there is for us. Because when far less fortunate people are able to move here the opportunity is so clear to them and they don’t stop until they get to where they want to be.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy this episode, please shoot me a message on Insta if you would like and leave a review if you are enjoying the show, that would mean a lot to me.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast, if you are new here welcome, great to have you

Today’s episode is a relaxed and easy to listen to conversation about why Gen z’s and Millenials suffer from high levels of mental health problems.

A recent study shows 70% of senior high school students report the need to see a mental health professional and I am sure you can see this with the people you hang out with.

So why is this? What is different about our generation? Did other generations suffer from this? Are we just weak or is there more at play here?

I discuss this and more with today’s guest Clint Adams a former police officer and counsellor who helps teams and individuals with resilience and mental health

He is also the author of “igniting the blue flame” a book exploring teen suicide going into the mind of someone suffers from mental health problems.

I hope you enjoy this episode and make sure to leave a review if you got some value out of it.

Question form (please fill out)

Today we are switching it up a bit and going deep into a topic I have wanted to cover for a long time

Dating and relationships for Gen Z.

Because it is so different and we are experiencing so many different things previous generations never had to deal with.

Things like

  • Ghosting, is it okay
  • How hyper-focused on sex we are
  • Are we in a competition of who can care less?
  • Why are we so strategic about our responses?
  • We are overloaded with options

This and many more topics are what I cover in today’s episode with Natasha Larcos

Growing up in Europe, Natasha is a gen z just like you and I and has dated in many different places from around the world giving her a unique perspective on Australia’s toxic dating world.

She is also the co-host of the “Officially Unofficial” podcast, a podcast all about dating and exploring relationships.

This episode is something I have wanted to cover for a while now, but I really wanted to bring in someone young who understands what gen z are going through.

Because things like Tinder and other apps are so new, previous cultures are unaware of the struggles gen z face when it comes to dating, sex and relationships.

So it today’s conversation we discuss all of this in detail, from the perspective of a gen z male and female.

And for any young listeners, this is a mature conversation… there is now crude language or explicit detail and I really think this conversation will be very valuable to you so please don’t click away!

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast…

Today I am joined by Demi Kotsoris, who specialises in the “Millenial Crisis”. She explores open conversations on Millennial topics and educating Millennials on different ways the modern world allows them to do things - aiming to empower them to take action.

I understand businesses can not keep up with the ever-changing digital world and believe that communication and transparency are shared as workplace values but are not showcased in workplace actions.

My research on Millennials in the workplace shows how important community, being valued, flexibility and open communication are important for not only the mental health and wellbeing of employees but for all-round business success.

Today we discuss the difference between millennials and Gen Z, we get into her story, why she does what she does, how she is able to run her business from her bedroom, the millennial crisis, what is it? Internships, travel and much more.

As per usual the full video will be up on Youtube and across all my social media platforms so feel free to check it out there or reach out to me.

Welcome back to the Driven Young Podcast…

The podcast has been growing fast lately after so if you are new welcome!

Today’s conversation is exciting. It is super relevant for younger people, regarding chasing your dream, different options coming out of high school, what to do if you don’t enjoy your degree, the power of storytelling and more,...

With over 15 years in the corporate world, leading, training, and developing leaders, and the height of his career, overseeing 5 states in the USA with 293 locations under his leadership, Today’s guest John Bourgeois decided to leave the corporate world.

After a decade of dreaming, John decided to stop making excuses and start catching his dreams.

What originally started as writing a book, has evolved into a movement of Dreamcatchers, where John and his community are tired of chasing their dreams and are now catching them.

His sole mission is to help millions of Dreamcatchers around the world stop chasing their dreams and start to catch them.

Through coaching, podcasting, books, speaking and live events, he is able to initiate changes that transforms businesses, relationships and overall quality of life.

He is also the author of the Amazon #1 Best Selling book, The Pen and Its Author, and is working on his second book that is set to release in 2020.

Thanks to Corona Virus I have had to do a few online interviews, which I am not a fan of. But there is only a few, I am back to in-person interviews now and I have some epic ones coming up so keep an eye out for them.

I am joined by Gabriela Rosa a world-renowned fertility specialist, host of the Fertility Challenge™ and the founder and clinical director of the Rosa Institute—an organization dedicated to helping couples create healthy babies, despite previous reproductive challenges.

So why have I bought on a fertility specialist?

Because today we don’t speak about fertility but instead get into Gabriella’s insane story, how she went from a 17 out of 100 end of year score (ATAR) to graduating from Harvard 20 years later, how she has built a successful business and served over 130,000 clients worldwide, the importance of work ethic, how she travelled across the world at 15 and lived on her own without financial support and learnt 2 new languages and much more.

Gabriela is an Author, speaker, business owner, mother and a very inspiring person as you will soon find out. Please pay attention to how insane her growing up story is and how she completely failed highschool but was still able to build a successful business, get accepted into Harvard and generate enough money to cover the insane Harvard tuition fees + back and forth travel between Australia and America while still running a business, pass the course and raising 2 children.

So sit back and enjoy because there is so much gold in this episode and I know you are going to get so much value from it.

This weeks episode is super powerful.

Today I am joined by a Survival expert and trained psychotherapist who runs camps and retreats in the Australian bush for kids, young adults and men and women.

We actually met at a camp years ago then reconnected when I went on a men’s retreat with him where we had to survive overnight in the bush with nothing but a blanket.

**Lee has been using Jon Young's coyote mentoring approach for over a decade and began learning and teaching bushcraft as a teenager at the Forest School Camps in the UK. He studied primitive survival skills at Tom Brown Jr's Tracker School, and Practical Primitive, both in the US, and spent a year living in the bush, finding shelter, water and food on the landscape; putting it into practice.

More than that, he found a radically new experience of what it means to be human.**

Today we discuss Lee’s story, how he got into survival, what he has learned as a psychotherapist, how he was able to reconnect with himself after spending a year in the wilderness, the different ways men and women show emotion and much more.

**This is a jam-packed episode and I really enjoyed listening to it again whilst I edited it, there are so many awesome take ways and I really hope you enjoy.

I have a very different topic to cover today, but it is something that is super important we understand from a young age.

Today's guest is a naturopath, nutritionist, author, mother and host of The Shift podcast. She is passionate about helping other humans to live a passionate and inspired life.

And today we are talking all things health-related from a young age and how being aware of the importance of health early on could prolong your life span by a decade... at least.

So many Australians are dying unnecessarily due to poor health decisions and Katherine shares with us why this is and how we can prevent this for ourselves and future generations.

I know its easy to ignore gut health and overall health when you are young and basically bulletproof but understanding that it won't always be that way, we can start implementing what we learn from this episode to help prevent unnecessary deaths.

Today's episode is going to be a little different; this week, I decided to interview a guest overseas. He is based in Sweden…. and is only 13 years old.

Next to him in this interview is his incredible father, and together they run a podcast called "Invest in you" focusing on helping people get control of their finances among many other things.

Charlie is still a Jnr at high-school but has already started his entrepreneurial journey.
Fredrick, his father, has multiple companies throughout the UK and mainly around finance and property.

We explore entrepreneurship from a young age and talk about how social is affecting us and how it can be used to create money. Charlie gives his point of view as a 13-year-old on some exciting topics, and I get to see how his father has created a world of opportunity for him to follow his passion.

This is an interesting episode, Charlie is by far my youngest guest, and I imagine he will be for a long time, but both of them have a lot of value to bring to the table.

As usual, I will be putting up my favourite clips of this episode on Instagram and Facebook, feel free to go check them out and if you want to get in contact with me shoot me a dm.

Today I have an amazing guest who delivers so much practical take away value for those in high school or uni, who are either unsure if what you are doing is the right path for them or if you are pursuing a creative industry and have no idea how to get a foot in the door, then you do not want to miss this episode.

My guest today is a creative and social media master when it comes to video. During her role as a content producer at one of Australias biggest news and media outlet for woman, Mummamia. She has produced videos that have gotten over 50m views. Not overall, she has separate videos with that many views on its own.

Briony Benjamin has since started her own company “social parade” shortly after being blindsided with lymphoma a rare form of cancer.

Today we discuss

  • How she easily got into the creative industry
  • The power of building your network (I loved that part)
  • Social media and how it's affecting us
  • Tik Tok - is it good or bad? The opportunity it is presenting you
  • We touch on her experiences with cancer, how it helped her realise who her friends were and more
  • Greta Thunberg and how our generation has the chance to leave behind an amazing legacy.

  • how to tell if you are depressed
  • and how it's probably not as bad as you might think

When I think of important topics that were barely covered in school, getting control of your finances has got to be at the top of that list.

  • Simple Finance,
  • Interest, what the hell is it?
  • Implementing a saving strategy from a young age
  • How to buy a home in your 20s
  • Should you buy a new car?
  • How to live in Sydney at a young age
  • Credit cards

All of this and more is covered in the first episode of the driven young podcast.

I am your host Byron Dempsey and today’s guest is entrepreneur/mortgage broker Aaron Christi David. He runs a company called Atelier wealth alongside his wife and specialises in helping people buy a home or investment property.

This may not sound too exciting but it is so important we learn this stuff early on so we don’t reach 30 years old with no savings and no financial assets.

I started the Driven Young Podcast as a way to help educate and inspire the younger generation.

I believe our world is changing so fast, the current education system can’t keep up and is
left teaching us old and outdated skills no longer relevant in the workplace.

This podcast explores what I believe should have been taught in school and aims to help people realise the world is different from when their parents grew up and we must make relevant decisions based on the world we live in currently not the world people used to live in.
