The problem? Ellie starts falling for Aster herself. It's a story about the things we're too afraid to say out loud and what happens when we finally find the courage to say them. There are some things in life that we cannot control. Things happen and we have to learn how to live or die with them. In this episode we discuss two films: It Follows and Candyman.
It Follows is a film that follows a young woman who is cursed after having sex for the first time. If the curse catches her, she will die but if she can pass it on to someone else, she might be able to live another day.
Candyman is a film about an artist who hears an urban legend about a man who was brutally murdered by the police. Intrigued, he goes on a journey to find that he is much more connected to the story than he thought.

Coherence is about a group of friends who get together on a seemingly normal evening for dinner. While they are chatting away, a comet passes by overhead and strange things start to happen.

High school coming-of-age films are their own popular genre of films but what happens when you mix in a bit of horror?
This week we chat about a film titled The Shed and the Fear Street limited series. The Shed follows a young man whose backyard shed is being used as a shelter for a vampire. As he confronts the shed, he is forced to come to terms with things in his life that he has been pushing away. The Fear Street limited series is a three part film series on Netflix that follows a young woman named Deena and her friends as they get wrapped into the curse surrounding their hometown.

This week's episode is on the two films Ghost Lab and The Vigil. Ghost Lab follows two doctors who are willing to sacrifice anything to prove that ghosts exist. The Vigil follows a man who is hired as a shomer for an evening - someone who watches over a deceased person before the body is sent to be prepared for the funeral.

A popular subgenre of horror is telling stories in a series or an anthology. Join us as we talk about some of our favorite horror anthologies: Beyond Belief, Goosebumps, Are You Afraid of the Dark, and Yamishibai. Some things we talk about in this episode are: the line between reality and fiction, white vs. non-white families, creepy kids TV shows, and redemption in horror stories.
Horror and comedy are two very different film genres. But no matter how different these two genres can be, filmmakers still try to tell stories that exist in this intersection. In this episode we talk about the bait and switch of Cabin in the Woods and the hilariously funny (yet still creepy and tragic) Hong Kong-Singaporean horror comedy, The Eye 10.
The majority of horror films have evolved from "jump scares, gore, nudity, and characters existing for the sake of killing them off" to "horror that symbolizes key moments in a story and characters with complex stories and personalities who deal with traumatic and horrifying memories or experiences." In this episode, we talk about two films that do this well: The Babadook and A Quiet Place.
