The Irishmin: Recent Episodes

Ryan Simmons

A daily podcast where Ryan Simmons (UCB Theatre, SB Nation) watches exactly one minute of the 3-and-a-half hour 2019 movie The Irishman and then talks about it for a few minutes, and I honestly could not tell you why. New episodes Monday-Friday. Theme song: The Irish Washerwoman by Ron McKinnon (via Creative Commons: https://soundcloud.com/ron-mckinnon/irish-washerwoman)

Early in the project, I promised that the final final episode of this project would be "doing right" by this movie and watching it all in one sitting, as intended. And I'm here to proudly announce: PROMISES MADE, PROMISES KEPT.

Look, this episode is 3 and a half hours long. It was livestreamed on Twitch on August 22, 2024, with the full movie playing on screen. This is NOT a full commentary. There are long stretches where I'm just vibing, watching the movie, or interacting with the chat. I think this final episode is best viewed as a companion, or background noise for doing something else. Or maybe driving? I don't know what you do with it, all I know is I did it, and it's done. This whole thing is over.

Thank you all so much for the continued listening and support. I will use this feed in the future for announcing upcoming projects, but otherwise this will live on for a little while for posterity. And as always...

SOLIDARITY!!!

Well folks, that's it. Looks like ol' Frankie is gonna ride off into the sunset, head held high. And so am I. Thank you so much for joining me on this ill-advised but ultimately enlightening and enriching experience. It was fun, but I am glad for it to be over. One final episode remains: the full real-time watch through. See you then!

We're getting down to the wire. Also, Lilith joins this week!

Finally bringing it full circle to the old folks' home, and a brutal exchange in a bank. It's that and more, on... The Irishmin!!!

We are officially in The Final Mins, folks. Only 17 more mins remain, including this one in this very episode. It's almost too hard to think about this all coming to an end, but end it must. I hope you'll join me for the last little push of this stupid little project.

Okay so here's what happened this week: I actually recorded six episodes this week and did 'Thursday' twice. (Longtime Minheads will know I cheat and do a week's worth of episodes at once and cut them up.) And so that's why in this episode you'll hear me be very confused at how I'm somehow a minute ahead. And then yesterday I went to publish the first of the two Thursdays and ended up posting the second Thursday by mistake. So now there's a missing Min but you know what you honestly didn't miss anything. Maybe I'll throw it up as a bonus episode next week but maybe I won't because I'm lazy. Anyway, enjoy!

The Irishmin remains a daily podcast where we watch exactly one minute of the three-and-a-half hour 2019 Netflix movie "The Irishman" and talk about it.

View Details

The Irishmin continues to be a daily podcast where we watch exactly one minute of the three-and-a-half hour 2019 Netflix movie "The Irishman" and talk about it.

View Details

The Irishmin is still a daily podcast where we watch exactly one minute of the three-and-a-half hour 2019 Netflix movie "The Irishman" and talk about it.

View Details

After 13 months away, The Irishmin makes its triumphant re-re-re-return. The Irishmin is a daily podcast where we watch exactly one minute of the three-and-a-half hour 2019 Netflix movie "The Irishman" and talk about it. And it's back.

View Details

We're feeling optimistic!! Which might be the first time I've typed that into an episode notes.

View Details

Gee whiz my back really is truly killing me.

View Details

My back hurts! Let's just get on with it!

View Details

Ah! Friday the 13th! Spooky!!

View Details

I... still don't think Jimmy Hoffa is getting it!!!

View Details

The stones at Jimmy Hoffa, man! Where does he think he can get away with this???

View Details

Ol' Jimmy is just not getting it.

View Details

Hello, world!

View Details

Straight up this min is a little boring. But I think we're setting up some fireworks in the coming mins of the movie (that's weeks for us, btw. you and me)

View Details

CORRECTION: In this episode, Steve Van Zandt makes a cameo appearance and I erroneously state that he is dead. He is, in fact, still alive. I was thinking about Tony Sirico, aka Paulie Walnuts. This was fully my mistake. Apologies to all.

View Details

Anna-watch continues and boy it pays off at the end of this min!! Wednesday is heating up nicely!

View Details

Another perfectly timed min. Seriously his speech ends perfectly before the minute is up! Gotta love moments like that. Goo dstuff

Welcome back! We had so much fun doing the show live on Twitch last week that we're doing it again this week. Lots of good story mins this week including this one! Enjoy!

View Details

The final episode of our live batch! Boy this was fun. I think maybe we'll do this again on or around Thursday, recording the next week's batch of Mins together. Check out twitch.tv/ryansimmonsnyc for more info! Hope to see you there!

View Details

The heat continues to rise for ol' Frankie as he tries to smooth things over between Jimmy Hoffa and the mob. Wondering how that turns out for all!!

View Details

Happy 420, the Weed Number! Finally got to use the soundboard on this episode and it was a LOT of fun, at least for me, as you can tell.

View Details

Back at it again with our live Twitch tapings of the Min. If you want to get in on it next time, check out twitch.tv/ryansimmonsnyc!

View Details

The Irishmin is now live! Kinda. This episode and every episode this week was recorded live on Twitch on Thursday April 14th. It was a lot of fun and I think I'm going to keep doing it, I love the energy and I hope you do too!

View Details

Also what I'm realizing as these two episodes go up weeks later than they should've is that I had left it hanging on a big ol' cliffhanger. Man I am bad at this lol

View Details

LOL well, this is a Thursday episode from February that's getting uploaded on a Monday in April. I didn't set this episode or the next one to publish correctly and had no idea they did not go live. But they're going live now! Enjoy!

View Details

Well you can ALSO say that today is ALSO explosive!!! Wow!

View Details

Well you can definitely say that today's min is quite... explosive.

View Details

I pushed this episode live at 11:44 PM EST so technically that counts as getting it up on time!!!

View Details

After a pretty spicy min, things calm down a little bit and we start to contemplate another killing. I also tell a rather embarrassing story of the one and only physical fight I've ever been in. I'm a big bitch!

View Details

This was a real spicy min!!! Molto bene!

View Details

Happy Groundhog Day! We checked in with Phil, and yes, it's six more weeks of The Irishmin (2019). At LEAST six weeks.

View Details

Can you believe we are STILL talking about ice cream sundaes? I can and I'm loving it!!

By the way, if you're wondering why the episode numbers are out of whack, it's because when I upload multiple episodes at the same time, Audioboom assigns them all the same episode number. Which is dumb! But I didn't realize it until very recently and I am NOT going back and fixing all the duplicates. You're just going to have to live with it like I do!!!

View Details

Things heat up between Hoffa and Tony Pro -- and by that I mean they kinda bicker at a table for a bit.

View Details

Happy January 6th!!! (Boy that feels... really weird, doesn't it?) It's our 2nd Anniversary episode and I'm going to be up front with you here, it is kind of a boring min. Sorry! Not up to us!

View Details

We're looking for a Good Min for our 2nd anniversary tomorrow and I gotta tell you... it does not look great.

View Details

Wherein we briefly flirt with the siren's call to turn this into an alt-right podcast just to make some money. We don't, though! Relax! But we thought about it.

View Details

Happy 2022, and happy anniversary week! We're hoping for a great min heading into our 2nd birthday! That's right -- Thursday will be TWO YEARS of the Irishmin! Wow! That's sad!

View Details

Happy Christmas, everyone! Especially you, Anna Paquin!

View Details

A HUGE DAY for us here at Irishmin central -- Anna Paquin SPOTTED!!! Sound the alarm!

View Details

Oh! Oh no! It was today! The murder was today!!!

View Details

The impending murder of Joey Gallo looms over the horizon. Will it happen today? Or tomorrow?! Only time will tell!

View Details

We did it!! We made it to the halfway point of the movie! Couldn't have done it without your help everyone!!! Now let's just do all this one more time.

View Details

Welcome to the gun show! (Because we end the min on Frankie literally showing us all his guns on his bed, this will make sense after you listen to the episode.)

View Details

We're all brothers here!

View Details

The Irishman takes us to an insult comedy show back in the halcyon days where you could really joke about everybody!!!

View Details

Lilith returns, and just in time too, because even doing one episode by myself again was positively brutal. Not as brutal as the murder we witnessed though!!! (But close)

View Details

Ryan is flying solo on this one -- not for any bad reason, just to get this friggin thing out the door. The Succession finale was good, wasn't it?

View Details

There's something about an assassination attempt in this one? I dunno.

View Details

Fight! Fight! Fight!

After another extended hiatus, we're back! And we're here to answer the question: everyone else has a podcast, why can't I? If you choose to listen to this project, that's on you, but after that, know that we're in this together.

View Details

Closing out the week on a somewhat depressing note.

View Details

Lilith returns! And we learn a whole lot about 'Fitz'. Who are these people?!

View Details

Ryan is solo today, but after enough bitching and moaning, manages to change that by the end of the episode.

JFK JUNIOR IS ALIVE!!!

Claws out, bitch!!!

View Details

Well, the moment we didn't know we were waiting for has finally arrived, and now it's time to turn this into a full-fledge Qanon conspiracy podcast. Do you think putting "Qanon" in the description of a podcast episode is going to be a problem for me? Here's to hoping not.

View Details

Lilith returns! She has one sticking point about courtroom procedure that threatens to bring this whole thing to a grinding halt.

View Details

I had to do this episode twice because I borked the recording. GAHHHHHHHHH

View Details

The exciting conclusion to the two-part Rebecca Black's Friday special!

Part one of the exciting two-part special where we sing Rebecca Black's Friday (don't worry, this only takes a few seconds because we don't commit to the bit).

View Details

Lilith laments the addition to the cast of "Potato-faced Matt Damon".

View Details

Lilith apologizes for calling me the C-word.

View Details

Whelp, I effed up and we rewatched the same min we did in our last episode 3 weeks ago. So we just went ahead and did another min so enjoy the first-ever Double Min Feature. Also at the very very end, Lilith calls me the c-word. Watch out!

A little boy is stuck in meat truck! Get outta that meat truck you little scamp

View Details

Ryan wonders why, since children were not vectors for Covid, we haven't seen more child gangs roaming the streets. That's pretty much it for this ep.

View Details

Surprise! Ryan and Lilith are back, just because.

View Details

Hoo boy it's a real short one today!

View Details

Anna Paquin, can you hear us? Save us, Anna Paquin.

View Details

Episode 69! Nice. You might be asking your self, "But that's one hour and 9 minutes and your episode title says one hour and sixteen minutes." To which I say, shut up!!!

View Details

Well, it's just me today. I know I said there were more guests coming (and there are!) but it wouldn't be The Irishmin it if it wasn't just a little bit disappointing almost all the time.

View Details

Banner Society writer and co-host of the Shutdown Fullcast, Ryan Nanni joins for chat on a min, and exposes me to My Blue Heaven, which sounds like alternate reality sequel to Goodfellas.

View Details

Josh Gondelman, a writer/co-EP for Desus & Mero and host of the Make My Day podcast, joins me for a brief chat over a min. We talk about how his podcast is rooted in positivity while I wallow in misery on mine, and give ol' Marty Scorcese some notes.

View Details

My good friend and colleague Kofie joins for a min. We talk about conspiracy theories and what it was like to juuuust kind of miss all of this in the grand timeline of history.

View Details

My good friend and colleague Seth Rosenthal joins for a min. We talk about the passage of time, and lament the anti-tie sentiment of our workplace.

View Details

We're back! After hiatus number 2, Lilith returns to help introduce a very special two week stretch of NEW GUESTS EVERY DAY. That's right, I'm subjecting friends to exactly 60 seconds of a movie they may or may not have seen, via Zoom. Why should I have to go through this alone? Also I bust out my Dan Carlin impression which I think is actually not too bad.

View Details

Don't read! Just keep going!

View Details

Keepin' it tight! Keep it moving! Let's go!

View Details

Back at it again, again.

View Details

Woah, now there's some military stuff happening! Man I really wish we had covered this period of American history in high school. Maybe we did! I was a pretty good student though so I doubt it.

View Details

Took a couple weeks off because it's summer, and summer's not a time to be inside recording a podcast where you watch one minute a day of the three-and-a-half-hour movie The Irishman (Netflix, 2019)

View Details

Frankie gets over it. All's well.

View Details

Frankie gets a little punchy in this one! A little sensitive!

View Details

Please do not talk to me about The Irishman (2019), The Irishmin, Jimmy Hoffa, or any related material in between episodes of this podcast. It is the only time I will discuss, please respect this wish. Thank you.

View Details

We're continuing to learn more about these guys. Wow, that's a lot of information! Ugh.

View Details

We finally broach the second hour. Woo-hoo.

View Details

By the end of this episode, we will be an hour into this movie. This movie, again, is three and a half hours long. Feels like it should be a milestone. It's not.

View Details

Our lack of American history knowledge is starting to show itself here in this episode. This is what happens when you are only watching a movie 60 seconds at a time and missing crucial context.

View Details

Did we notice some weird filmmaking trickeration happening here? Maybe. Possibly. Could also be that I'm just losing my mind.

View Details

Not a whole lot happens in this particular episode, I'm gonna be honest with you. BIG info dump. Yawn.

View Details

Closing in on the first hour of The Irishman (2019). We're almost 1/3 of the way there folks! Wow.

View Details

Lilith unionizes against me in this episode.

View Details

At the end of this episode Lilith says one of the saddest things ever uttered on this podcast, which is really saying something!!!

View Details

Lilith puts all her chips in on whether we see Joey get got this week or not. Meanwhile, this movie continues. What the hell?!

View Details

Another exciting episode of the podcast. At one point later one you can actually hear my shitty Amazon USB microphone picking up a radio signal from somewhere in New York City. Very high production quality we've got here.

View Details

Back for another week. It's starting to get hot! We have to record without the AC and it's not very comfortable. HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY

View Details

Finishing the week strong with Lilith. I can't believe we're doing this project again but I guess this is what they call "the new normal."

View Details

In this episode you can hear fireworks exploding outside. Lots of fireworks have been going off the last few weeks in most urban centers around the country. Most people know this is just because it's summertime, and fireworks are readily available, and people are tired of being stuck inside with nothing to do. But there's a prevailing conspiracy theory that cops are intentionally setting them off in Black neighborhoods as retribution for weeks of protests. Wild. Anyway regardless of the reason you can hear them. Really professional setup we've got going on here. A podcast where you can hear fireworks going off in the distance -- folks, you won't find that anywhere else, I guarantee you that.

View Details

Okay, we're learning more about Jimmy Hoffa. Finally. Apparently this whole friggin movie is about the guy? Coulda fooled me. Anyway here's more.

View Details

Lilith joins again for another episode. What's crazy is I could have probably gotten away with never doing this again and yet here we are. The human mind is truly a mystery.

View Details

Hey. We're back. Hope you're okay out there, what with the world being on fire and all that. Sorry this sounds like ass. I'm about to order a new microphone on Amazon. Maybe one of those Blue Yetis or whatever. It should be here next week.

View Details

Did you see what I did in the episode title? I made the format so it was like Covid-19 was a special guest. Fun stuff. Anyway, let's watch a movie too slowly.

View Details

Man what an unbelievable chore this has become.

View Details

Let's just get on with this.

View Details

Man, this shit sucks!

View Details

"There's a movie in here somewhere, and we're gonna find it. Tomorrow, that search continues."

View Details

Allegra Frank, culture editor for Vox.com, continues to join me, and we coin what I think is going to be the new catchphrase for this podcast. You gotta listen to find out!

View Details

I'm joined once again by Vox.com culture editor Allegra Frank, and we play yet another game of "Will He Live!" about Whispers. Allegra bets he'll make it to see another Friday, but I'm not so sure.

View Details

Today and all of this week I'm joined by culture editor for Vox.com Allegra Frank. We talk about pooping (and peeing) our pants. Among other things.

View Details

Wrapping up our wonderful week with the ladies from the Mean Book Club podcast, to whom I officially apologize for dragging to the studio for a week and watching 5 mostly uneventful minutes of this movie.

View Details

Oooohhhhhhh, Frankie's in trouuuuuuuublleeeeee... for a sec.

View Details

Sabrina convinces us that if we just The Secret this, we can will interesting things to happen in this movie to talk about on the podcast. Then we spend today's minute watching DeNiro drive a car, slowly.

View Details

The girls of the Mean Book Club podcast join us once again and we tut-tut Whisper's pretty pointed use of the term "Jews", among other things.

View Details

This week I'm joined with my very good friends Sarah, Clara and Sabrina of the Mean Book Club podcast! We help get my new game off the ground and talk about the movie The Irishman (2019). Oh and happy Presidents' Day if that's your thing or whatever.

View Details

I finally caved and turned on the goddamn subtitles. I can't figure out what these marblemouths are saying!

View Details

A general rule of thumb is to not shove the daughter of a mobster. We learn that in today's minute. Valuable stuff!

View Details

Frankie creates yet another enemy -- or rather another person has made an enemy of Frankie. Maybe don't go shoving little girls, idiot!

View Details

Today I explore the possibility that yet another side character is introduced only to meet his untimely demise. Will it happen by Friday? Only time will tell.

View Details

It's the big Oscars recap episode! Spoiler alert: The Irishman (2019) did not take home a single Academy Award. Oops!

View Details

I don't know about you but I'm ready to put this week behind us and start fresh on Monday. Hoo doggy, what a stinker.

View Details

A brief mea culpa for getting a little worked up yesterday, then we're right back into the good good: people dyin'.

View Details

Today was not good. I really kind lose it in the end there a little bit. Ah well, there's always tomorrow.

View Details

The Mondays have morphed into the Tuesdays, and I'm starting to doubt my commitment to Sparkle Motion (and by that I mean the 2019 film The Irishman, and me watching it one minute at a time).

View Details

I have a really very serious case of the Mondays on this episode. Why am I doing this? Why do we do the things we choose to do in our lives?

View Details

We've done it! The end of the first month of The Irishmin. Thanks again to my good friend and writer of the upcoming 2nd season of Amazon's Modern Love, Jesse Cramer, for joining me this week.

View Details

Is this dinner with Bufalino turning into a job interview with the mob? Basically! Let's find out more, with my friend Jesse Cramer.

View Details

My experience in "year-long edging" continues, with my good friend Jesse Cramer.

View Details

It's very good to have another person in the room with me for this. I feel like a drifting astronaut in here sometimes.

View Details

My very good, longtime college friend, and writer for the upcoming second season of Amazon's Modern Love, Jesse Cramer joins the podcast. He's seen the whole movie. Will this week drive him insane? Not more insane than he already is by being my friend.

View Details

This movie is a working man's movie!!!!!!! It only took three weeks but this movie is starting to get good.

View Details

Where's the beef?!?!?! An answer that humanity has been asking for generations finally rears its ugly head in the three-and-a-half hour movie The Irishman (2019).

View Details

Maybe today is when it all comes together. Who can say for sure? Also, the reveal of William Buffalino.

View Details

Who the hell put this shot of a baptism in the middle of my mobster movie?!?!

View Details

Some people have said this podcast is the only way they are consuming the three-and-a-half hour movie The Irishman (2019), and that means I'm not the only insane person on Earth.

View Details

On our last day with special guest Patrick Gill, we end the week on a genuine, honest-to-god cliffhanger. What IS that thing????

View Details

Okay, now we're finally getting somewhere! Alternate title for this episode was "Joe Pesci and the Home Alone Experience".

View Details

Patrick Gill (Polygon, @pizza_suplex) joins me again to continue discussing a mechanical rendez-vous, the de-aging process, and a potential Marvel-style after-credits sequence for The Irishman (2019).

View Details

I'm once again joined by Polygon video producer and my good friend Patrick Gill, although this one was a little bit of a let-down. Just a bunch of truck stuff.

View Details

I'm joined by good friend, former roommate and current video producer for Polygon, Patrick Gill (@pizza_suplex) to continue this unnecessary exploration of cinematic length. There's also a brief misunderstanding that I'll just let you experience for yourself.

View Details

You can already hear in my voice that I'm waffling on whether ironically breaking down this movie in such an unnecessary way was a good idea. Oh well, too late to stop now.

View Details

I have already misidentified another actress, and I'm starting to hit a wall already, in the 4th minute. This movie is 210 minutes long.

View Details

I already feel bad about calling Robert De Niro's exposition in this minute "some old man story."

View Details

Welp, I figured out why it's also called "I Heard You Paint Houses."  We get right into the action and so does Martin Scorsese. Pretty cool.

View Details

I make my thesis statement for why I'm watching such a long movie (The Irishman, 2019) minute by minute. Also I thought I saw Patricia Heaton in the film. Was it her? Only one way to find out.
