Reel Classy: Recent Episodes

Christopher Emerson

Every episode I have a special guest on to discuss an old black and white movie. The guest picks the movie, and we watch it ahead of time before recording.

The rules are that the films must be black and white, and released prior to 1970. We have a lot of fun analyzing the films, and discussing what we liked or didn't like about them. We also get off topic very easily and just talk about whatever we want. But that's half the fun.

On this episode I talk with film buff Ben Chase about the 1955 movie The Night of the Hunter. This film is a story of morality, religion and the perversion thereof. Good and evil competing over the lives of two small children during the depression. It is the only film directed by Charles Laughton, and the german expressionist influences give the film a dark and dreamy aesthetic that is hauntingly beautiful. Join ben and I as we discuss what we liked, what we didn't, and how this film holds up today.
