Hello everybody , my name is Maria Ruiz, I am from Prado del Rey and I am studying direction assistant in Los Remedios, Ubrique. Do you know how I am communicating with you right now? Oral communication is established between two or more people, has as a means of transmission speech and as a code a language. Right now, I am communicating through the English code. Communicating is an inevitable process of the human being.
Oral communication allows us to carry out the actions of everyday life, train as a person and integrate into society.
I am going to talk you about forms of oral communication.
There are different forms of oral communication, depending on the number of participants it can be: Singular. With one or more receivers that do not have the possibility to respond. Dual. Two interlocutors who can take on the role of sender and receiver. For example, a telephone conversation. Or plural. When there are 3 or more interlocutors who adopt the role of sender and receiver. For example a neighborhood meeting.
Regardless of the number of participants there are also twelve types such as: Assembly, conference, debate, speech, dialogue, interview, exposition, forum, panel, meeting, symposium and seminar. Which I will explain more specifically:
Assembly: The assembly is held internally, in an institution or agency, or group that has come together to form a cause. There are two types: ordinary and extraordinary asambles.
Conference: In the conference, one or more people present the results of something before an audience, allowing the audience to participate or ask questions.
Speech: The speech is very similar to a conference, except that here the audience does not participate and simply limits itself to listening. For example: a presidential speech.
Debate: Two people or two groups of people meet to present two points found on the same topic before an audience.
Say it: it is an informal conversation between two or more people. It is the most commonly used form of oral communication.
Interview: One or more people receive one or more people in order for them to be questioned on certain topics. The television interview presents this same mechanism, but sometimes it is the interviewer who goes in search of the person interviewed, to get a report, etc.
Exhibition: Similar to the conference, but includes participation of the attendees with the exhibitor. The exhibition is public, while the conference can be private.
Forum: It is a meeting of different people with the purpose of discussing a common theme, exposing their points of view.
Panel: Similar to the forum, except that it has a moderator and defined panelists who speak in front of an auditorium.
Meeting: Two or more people meet to discuss issues that must be resolved, on which a consensus or agreement must be reached. For example: meeting of co-owners of horizontal property to define the new administration.
Symposium: It is a meeting of experts or specialists. Each exposes briefly, successively and continuously. The purpose is not to dispute or generate debates.
Seminar: It is a group study technique, directed by specialists to people who have advanced knowledge as well. The duration is variable, being able to go from a few hours, to whole years.
Within the forms there are also two types of communication: Spontaneous oral communication Spontaneous oral communication is informal. For excellence, the representative expression of this type of communication is conversation.
This is a tool for exchanging information about everyday situations in real life. It is personal, and through it situations, feelings and points of view are shared.
The conversations are initiated without the existence of a rigid plan previously established to guide it. Only a little consistency is needed in the shared contents and a favorable context for its understanding. Not being planned, it can be full of emotional and thoughtless situations and, at times, seem messy.
Planned oral communication The planned oral communication is one that responds to a previously delineated planning. This planning includes topics or pre-designed structure, guidelines and any resource that helps maintain communication within certain levels.
In this type of communication you can find, on the one hand, the unidirectional plans that are those that have only one broadcaster addressing an audience. Within this class, there are lectures, speeches and master classes, among others.
On the other hand, there are multidirectional planned oral communications. They have a group of interlocutors addressing an audience.
This type of communication is seen in the debates in which several broadcasters offer their opinions and points of view in relation to a topic that was previously defined.
The oral communication also has advantages and disadvantages. Advantages Oral communication is interpersonal. For that reason, both the level of understanding and transparency are high. It is characterized by having a fast and spontaneous feedback. Consequently, quick decisions can be made. There is no stiffness. This allows greater flexibility in decision making. These decisions may change throughout the exchange of information. Oral communication is effective in solving sudden problems. Its simplicity, speed and maneuverability allows the approaches to be evaluated and these solutions implemented quickly. The use of oral communication saves time, money and efforts. Therefore, it is the type of communication used preferentially. This type of communication generates well-being and pleasure. And it encourages teamwork and information exchange. It also increases group energy in work teams.
Disadvantages The contents of oral communication are unstable. These types of communications are difficult to maintain over time due to their transience. The contents are valid only during the sender-receiver interaction. At the end, the contents are no longer valid. They are not recommended in commercial and legal matters. In these cases, the message needs to remain valid in time, a condition that does not guarantee oral communication. Misunderstandings may occur during oral communication. This is because it is less detailed than other types of communication.
In conclusion, the advantages are many more than the disadvantages. It is one of the easiest communication channels, the best way to express emotions and the oldest form of communication. It is important since in everyday life if we have good communication skills with other people, great doors can be opened to us, thus bringing great opportunities such as a job, socially and part of love.
