Season 1 – Episode 7 – Faye Beddow

Overcoming two redundancies to now work for herself…

My interview with Faye Beddow, who bounced back from being made redundant on two occasions to set up her own business, Faye Beddow Consulting.

Faye has over 20 years’ experience developing organisational resilience, health and transformation. She is passionate about supporting individual learning and growth; enabling people to reach their full potential and bring their unique selves to their roles, creating the conditions for organisational success. One aspect of this is supporting people to develop their personal resilience.

“We are not just work creatures … but parents, partners, friends and individuals. Developing personal resilience in the workplace is about looking at our whole selves – what aspects of our lives support our resilience and what aspects reduce it? How can we develop a personal toolkit to build our bounce-back-ability? How can we develop a mindset that moves us forwards rather than hold us back?”

Succeeding in a male-dominated environment...

My interview with former Police Staff member and current project manager, Chris Wells-West.

Starting at the bottom in a very male-dominated environment of UK policing, as a civilian member of Staff, Chris tells some of her story of being in the minority, both as a female and as a civilian member of the team.

Overcoming bias, the requirement to constantly prove herself to the organisation in each role she undertook, continual challenges, and suggestion of a bullying attitude from certain members of the hierarchy, Chris stuck with it. She succeeded in her roles, achieved promotions and commendations and became the Logistics and Resourcing Lead for some of the biggest police operations that the UK has seen within the past decade, culminating in her being awarded the British Empire Medal for Services to Policing.

It would have probably been easier, many times, to walk away and find another less draining career with fewer battles to deal with, but hear how Chris managed to push through it.

This interview will resonate with many people.

From legal dream, to the brink and beyond…

My interview with Leah Steele, who is the founder of Searching for Serenity, a mentoring and training company focused on helping professionals beat burnout and end imposter syndrome.

Following her childhood dream to become a lawyer, Leah had to cope with both burnout and ‘imposter syndrome’, working flat in a world where a lack of legal professionals in her family meant that she had to constantly prove herself in her chosen profession. Hear Leah’s story and how she overcame the challenges to do what she loves best.

Leah is a mentor and trainer, speaker and writer focused on burnout, imposter syndrome and what it takes to really thrive. She works with individuals and companies across the UK, Europe and US to help create resilient people who finally enjoy their work without it killing them (and develop sustainable careers and greater profitability to boot!). She lives in Bristol with her partner, dog Jasper and cat Smokey.
