Paul Leslie is the owner of Humboldt Honey Wine, which sells mead (a fermented honey alcohol) at his storefront in Eureka and farmer's market. Here in Humboldt County, near the outskirts of Fortuna, Paul manages about 100 beehives hives on his property. Most of the honeybees he keeps are Apis mellifera, the European honeybee. These bees are best known for being very productive honey producers, and the Latin name translates to "honey-bearing". Paul and I discuss what "Bee Colony Collapse" is, and the compounding factors occurring that are leading to this catastrophe. Listen to the podcast to learn how pollination services work, how a beekeeper defines "environment", and what we can do as a community to support the local bee population!
