In recent years, she has become a competitive ultramarathoner in Colorado; this year; she’s eyeing several 100k races. In February, she clocked a 6: 50-mile pace in the Mad Moose Pueblo Half Marathon. Whether she’s lifting in the gym or running on the trail, Dokken has found success in accenting her workouts with CBD-rich edibles and capsules. Today Doc Rob is joined by Cullen Jenkins, former NFL defensive tackle, and Super Bowl champion. The former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman started to feel the aches and strains of football during his final season at Central Michigan, even before his rookie debut in the NFL in 2003. But by the end of his 13-year professional career, the pain was a constant companion, from his torn pectoral that had to be drained of excess fluid to his injured ankle and battered quadriceps. When the 37-year-old retired in 2016 after playing with the Packers, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Washington Redskins, he was regularly using opiates to dull the pain and drinking alcohol to numb the senses. Sleep was elusive. Jenkins, who came back from a calf injury to help push the Packers to a Super Bowl XLV victory, fell into a deep depression, living with the side effects and hangovers of strong painkillers and alcohol. So Jenkins has recently turned to a controversial supplement instead: Cannabidiol, better known as CBD oil. The chemical, extracted from a cannibals sativa plant, is known to have numerous benefits in the form of managing chronic pain, promoting sleep and thereby reducing depression and anxiety.

Joe Schrank got the call six years ago that his friend Greg Giraldo had been found unconscious after an overdose in a New Jersey hotel room. Schrank had tried in vain to save him. Using pot instead of cocaine and Valium was something Schrank had suggested to his friend weeks before his death. Although it is an unpopular idea in the rehab world, where Schrank had made his career, he nonetheless had a hunch marijuana could have helped his friend. After Giraldo’s death, Schrank began working with Bienenfeld on treatment plans that incorporated marijuana as a crucial detox step. He also connected with Amanda Reiman, former head of marijuana law and policy at the Drug Policy Alliance, whose research at University of California, Berkeley, for more than a decade has focused on the use of cannabis as a viable substitute for prescription drugs. Schrank took another step and opened High Sobriety – a first-of-its-kind rehab center that uses cannabis as a central part of its treatment plan. Seen as a highly contentious move in the rehab world, High Sobriety has been met with skepticism and criticism for its use of marijuana in a field where success is traditionally measured by total abstinence.

Today on Concierge for Better Living Dr. Mitch speaks with Dr. Dave Hepburn an acclaimed media personality in the world of medical cannabis. Dr. Hepburn has been a co-host of the Oprah Winfrey Network show Buyologic. Together with Dr. Rob Sealey, he has also hosted the popular Canadian national radio program Wisequacks. The duo is often seen together in different speaking sessions, and is considered to be the leaders in teaching the appropriate application in the world of medical cannabis. They have recently delivered their highly sought after topic "Die Young... at an Old Age" to the BC Senior Living Association in Whistler, BC on Sept 12 and to the Seasons Retirement Conference, on Oct 5 in the Hockley Valley. Dr. Hepburn was a Canadian naval surgeon in the Persian Gulf War in 1991 and served as the doctor for the Canadian Armed Forces' West Coast fleet for three years. He was an instructor of NBCW (nuclear, biological, chemical warfare) medical treatment. He was also a doctor to the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta and was the Medical Director of the 1994 Commonwealth Games in gymnastics. Having coached at the highest level of hockey for 12 years, he entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2002 as the highest scoring defencemen in the longest hockey game in history. Dr. Hepburn has also authored a hilarious book titled "The Doctor Is In(sane)" that was nominated for several book awards.
