The Dedede S Cast: Recent Episodes

The Nintendo 3DS fan podcast

A friendly crew of deluded Nintendo devotees deliver the latest on the 3DS. Their coverage of the shiny new hand-held is passionately baised without the stereotypical fanboy arrogance... most of the time. The Dedede S Cast is the internet's best (and probably only) dedicated Nintendo 3DS audio podcast. Thanks for listening!

Wow, since it's E3 in less than a fortnight there's actually stuff to talk about! On top of that, there's some pretty spanking deals going on the launch games at the moment which has leant us the opportunity to discuss PilotWings in greater DEPTH (the exit's over there btw). It's so refreshing to not have to vamp on US television, what games Lewis happened to buy last week, the Scheme and, of course, Dr. Who. ...Oh wait.

Much like that episode title, this weeks podcast's been on the back burner a while. Our first show since the launch of the system, we can confirm that no birds were harmed in the making of this recording. However, we can't promise that it's also devoid of chatter about Mega Man Legends 3: Prototype Version, Monster Hunter, Portal 2 or the new Doctor Who.

That's right folks, whether you've grown up with them or "grown out" of them, the Poke'manz are back and boy will you know after listening to the opening segment of this show. And that's not all: our discussion of Ghost Trick quickly devolves into Phoenix Wright patter, which in amalgamation creates the ultimate Lewis and Chris fangasm. Later though we manage to hit up the regular 3DS shenanigans, including talk about the Japanese launch, launch titles and drunken Chinese girls in Edinburgh.

Question of the week! Which regular DS games do think would be enhanced by being able to use a "proper" analogue stick? The window for this is pretty wide open as we, the fine scholars of portable gaming that we are, struggled to come up with anything concrete beyond Mario 64.

Also feel free to post your Poke' codes below, yo.

The chat on this week's show is 100% more informed as Chris recounts his hands on time with the 3DS at an exclusive Nintendo event last Sunday. Including a live Street Fighter roleplay and a Zombie attack along with the details on the finalised UK launch line up, it's a story and a half!

This week's question: have you pre-ordered a 3DS and if so, where did you get it and for what prices. Seen any devious deals?

As usual, thanks for listening and have a good week. Make sure you check out next week's episode for more hands on impressions, including Splinter Cell 3D and Super Monkey Ball 3D.

We've all watched about as many bad press as we've spent time wondering what the bottom of an avatar's shoe looks like but BAM did the 3DS "Preview Event" fall flat. Having emerged from nearly 2 hours of epic powerpoint presentations without so much as a clue to the UK launch line up, never mind how the presenter fared in their last experience snowboarding, the Dedede S Cast is hear to set it all straight for you. Yeah right.

Our question of the week! Is the little we know about the launch line up enough to convince you to pick up a 3DS day one? If so, what colour do you hope to get and which game whets your whistle?

With the 3DS launch finally just around the corner it's about time for us to get this podcast back on the road. As you're probably aware, Nintendo are hosting a conference in Amsterdam next Wednesday (19th of January) which is set to finally lift the lid on the details surrounding the handheld's launch and we'll be sure to have our next episode up as close to that event as possible. Until then there's a numbers of other ways to amuse yourself available (who'd have thunk it?):

Our sister gaming podcast Super Mega Podcast Bros (other wise known as Super Mega Imagine Extreme Unleashed: Ultimate Podcast Bros) was updated with its first episode of 2011 this week, which may or, more likely, may not worth checking out because we suck.

You could also say hi to us on twitter: Lewis is @theluma, Chris is @Chriss_11 and I'm @BackgroundSound.

Or you could subscribe and stuff.

See you next week!

Strangely enough, it seems all our news this week is topical in more ways than one. From n-Space's discussion of a sequel to what was dubbed Nintendo's "Halo killer" just a week after Reach's launch to Suda 51's involvement in 3DS development mere days after the announcement of his latest project "Shadows of the Damned", it all fits nicely on episode three. A bit to nicely if you ask me...

Bad omens aside, we have another question for you this week: Which developers who have generally stayed away from Nintendo consoles would you like to see working on 3DS projects and what's the likelihood of them actually doing so? Any franchises by these developers you'd like to see on the small screens?

Feast your ears on the second episode of the Dedede S Cast in which we discuss the effects of finding a £20 note on one's karma, messing with unsuspecting Nintendo representatives and, you know, stuff about that 3DS thing.

And to commemorate the achievement of making it to the notorious second episode, we have two question for you this week:1. Do you think the 3DS will suffer from the lack of a second analogue stick and/or is there anything else you'd change about the system?2. Would you be interested in a 3DS XL?

Being the inaugural episode, we begin this podcast by introducing ourselves and doing little catch up on the 3DS situation so far before jumping into the more recent news. We also discuss our favourite portable games and just what goes into making a great hand held game.

So what are your favourite portable games? Anything other elements a DS game must contain to be considered truly great?

Oh, and this is the swanky DSi of Lewis' we were talking about:
