Tony was young, living in the small Western Colorado Town of Montrose, he was a little burned out at his current job as a forklift operator, so he opened the paper, checked out the classifieds and his finger landed on 'electroplating.' He had no idea what it was, but the next thing he knew? He was hired and flying by the seat of his pants. Did I mention that fancy job title was at a huge company, Acme Silver Plating... that consisted of 3 people? That included Tony and the owners, a husband and wife team! What did they do and did Tony stick around? Well,14 years later, shining and plating all types of objects and awards including the prestigious Grammys, Tony, He's quite happy. Here is Tony's... For 22 years, The Bike Shop on 10th and North Avenue has been wrenching, tweaking, tightening and selling bikes, bike parts and more importantly...the love of cycling. The driving force behind the most popular bike shop in the Grand Valley?
Brain and Ashley, Co-Owners since 1994 and total opposites since forever! But...that's what makes them and the BIKE SHOP so GOOD! Brian is that master mechanic and whiz at fixing any and everything bike related ...Kind of like the MacGyver of bikes ...and Ash? Sales, Parts and Service...He's the shine on the chrome and the "yes man!"... This all of course some 'tongue in cheek" stuff...but true as well. Both these two life-long Grand Valley Men have devoted most ...if not their entire lives to one thing with two wheels...bikes!
From the first time they met...to now...these two are uniquely who they are and true to their passions. It is a synergistic burst of bicycling condensed into a shop that prides itself on consistency, community, speed and honesty... serving the huge cycling population on the Western Slope and all the tourists who find their way to the shop for one reason or another...come back year after year. The guy who bought his bike at the Bike Shop...and is now buying his kid a bike at the shop. People come back for a reason... It has nothing to do with price...it has to do with family, consistency, CUSTOMER service and familiarity and did I say Customer Service? Oh and Trust!
Full disclosure... I've taken my bike to these guys for almost a decade...when I was a poor sap to now a more known radio sap...They always treated me and my dilapidated bikes with care and honesty...So I finally just wanted to sit down and meet and talk with Brian and Ash and find out about that mustache, which has become iconic in our area and a symbol for the Bike Shop...and I wanted to just know how these guys met...do they do anything outside work together? ( Just the Christmas Party!) True! LOL... If you cycle ...you know these guys... if you live and work in Grand Junction ...you see their shop...and if you're like me and like interesting people? You will LOVE the owners of the Bike Shop!

David Keech is an American and... a British Citizen. Because, once a Brit always a Brit. But David married an American woman and came to the States almost 10 years ago... He took the test to become an American Citizen... and he even speaks our language...kinda. The accent is still strong in the affable Grand Junction Police Officer who now calls the Western Slope home. Dave came to Junction to work with a buddy at GJ Scores...but that didn't work out. Dave had always wanted to be a Police Officer... he was considered too short to be a Bobby in his hometown just outside London...but in America height, not an issue with the Brit with the big personality. Dave says his accent is a good 'attention getter' in domestic disputes and basically with anybody he's talking to whether he's arresting them or just trying to diffuse a situation.
He says in the heat of the moment...his accent can get pretty thick and maybe just a tad not understandable for the average Joe. He says his co-workers get a good laugh at his British-MoJo... in moments. David is also an accomplished Martial Arts Expert and teaches classes in the Grand Valley. But it's his love of his job, his great attitude and his desire to bust drunk drivers... that make him even more likable. And "no" he says... he's not from Australia ...but he gets that so much...he says he's stopped correcting people and will say " throw another shrimp on the Barbi" just for fun.

Wanda Bryan will tell you, she's no spring chicken, the grandmother and great grandmother loves water...skiing and volunteering...and has no plans on slowing down. So back in 2011 when asked if she would host some water activities for people with disabilities...without hesitation...she said 'Yes."
Not realizing what exactly it was that she was going to be doing...but after seeing the joy on the faces of the kids and adults who were experiencing skiing, tubing and lots of other activities for the first time ...or for the first time since becoming "disabled...she was hooked.
She knew her dream home with a 55 acre lake was forever going to be changed...and she had the power to change lives ...if but for only a few weekends each summer. It was time ...for Wanda Bryan to Give Back! So with help from a lot of generous folks here in Town, The Grand Junction Native started her Non-Profit... Dream Big Adaptive Watersports. The program that gets amazing people to do amazing things on water...challenging, wonderful and lots of breakthroughs. Just like Wanda says..." You gotta see it to believe it." In water ...she says... there is a freedom a lot of these people don't experience in their everyday lives dealing with their mental and/or physical challenges.
The program is completely free and run on donations. The pay for Wanda and all the Volunteers that help our on the big weekends? The Smiles on faces of the people making memories, one ski ride, kayak paddle, tube or boat ride ...at a time. Oh, and the families! It is a family affair...with Disabled Veterans not only participating ...but Volunteering their toughness, knowledge and wisdom. With special water equipment for all types of disabilities... Wanda's goal is to get any and everybody out on the water who wants to challenge themselves ...and the notion...a disability is a lifestyle...It is not...it's just a speed bump on the next wave of life.
While a lot of Wanda's friends have retired and gone the way of the easy life... she says ...she's like a pinball...bouncing from one thing to another...but this time she has found her passion, one smile at a time...two weekends a summer, making dreams and moments that will last a lifetime.

Jaqub Gurule is one of the most positive people I've ever met. Genuine, Real, down to earth, gregarious...all the adjectives you can think of ...That's Jaqub. The former All-Star Wrestler at Central High School, ( he was a National Runner-up TWICE!) at just 24, is working two jobs, is an avid hunter and hits the gym 5-6 days a week. He's been featured in several Hunting Magazines and his love for life, the people around him and his amazing sense of humor are a magnet and energy which extends throughout the aura around him. If that sounds too good to be true...just spend a minute with Jacub...
I spent an hour interviewing and talking with him...and lets just say...He made me feel good about my day. That's the kind of guy he is. I interviewed Jaqub in the afternoon...he had spent the entire morning in an MRI machine at the hospital...
You see, this 2016 Graduate of Colorado Mesa University, who works 2 jobs, works out everyday...Hunts anytime he can...also is battling Multiple Sclerosis. He got the diagnosis at age 19...So for the last 5 years? He's Had one mission...to be the best Jaqub he can be... and... with all the unknown of the disease that attacks the nervous system... he hasn't flinched. His Mantra? Bring it on MS...lets go!
Jaqub Gurule is the real deal... I'm thinking if everybody had his attitude and zest for life...this world would be a better place. By the Way...I asked Jaqub...if he had any bucket list items...he said, just two... to possibly Bungee jump and maybe Jump out of a plane...with a parachute! Other than that? He's a pretty happy guy...giving us ALL perspective on what life is really all about.

David Bristol is a beloved Coach, Teacher and Principal. He's also a proud Vietnam War Veteran. The Army Ranger...spent just over 10 months in Vietnam. But it's those intense moments... that have shaped and turned David's life. The Western Slope Native went into the Military shortly after graduating from Fruita High School. He knew if he didn't go voluntarily...he'd probably get drafted. Next thing you know, David had graduated Army Ranger School and he was off to war. What he did and how it shaped his life is in his new book "My War: Long Range Reconnaissance in the Highlands of Vietnam."
Dave writing the book partly to remember ...partly for therapy. You see ... the man who was a leader, a coach a teacher and a friend for 33 years? Was suffering from the effects of doing the unthinkable...having to kill in the name of his country. On TV, it's one thing...boots on the ground? That's another. David was incredibly candid, humble and straightforward when I interviewed him. Very likable... and I came away with a better understanding of what just a little war can do to a young man's mind...and the struggles that come with leading a 'normal' life after being subjected to the harsh realities of War.

HARLIN Wall is quite a character. So much in fact, he's the first Allgood News story I had to split into more than one story since I began doing these more than 6 years ago. I interviewed Harlin for just 30 minutes and in that time...I don't think I have ever laughed so hard during an interview...ever. Harlin has a unique way of telling a story, a perfect delivery...plus, he has a passion for what he does and that's animals. It's the rare combination of the gift of gab combined with the power of knowledge and the interesting understanding of the world around him that is inhabited by more than just the two-footed variety of humans. He's genuine. A lot of things shine through in an interview... and for Harlin? It is truly Passion. AND, that sense of dry humor. This is the Porcupine story...
Harlin and his brother, Steve... got a call about a Porcupine up a tree in Sherwood Park here in Grand Junction. I'll let Harlin tell you the rest ...the only way Harlin can...with a sense of Humor and almost wonderment at the predicaments he finds himself in in his pursuit to help wayward animals when ours and their worlds collide. Grand Junction and Mesa County are lucky to have a guy like Harlin to call...should they need him.

Harlin Wall is the Jack Hanna or maybe the Steve Irwin of Mesa County. When there is a wayward critter loose in a human neighborhood... The Grand Junction Police summon the man who has wrangled everything from Beavers to Porcupines, Snakes to Foxes. The calls coming at all times in the day and night,
Harlin faithfully showing up in his ...Prius! Not exactly a Range Rover on the Plains of the Kilimanjaro ... But Harlin will tell you he's never been traditional and walks to the beat of his own drummer. Not always easy for a man who is married with 3 young boys. But you see... Harlin has as passion for animals...always has. Just ask any of his Grand Junction Teachers over the years who dealt with the inquisitive, young Wall who brought everything from snakes to baby prairie dogs to the classroom. A Western Slope Native, Grand Junction High Graduate and Mesa State Alum. Harlin is as happy as a clam in his role as sherpa to the critters here in the Grand Valley. So what drives a person to do what they do...We're all curious right? I'd say 90-percent of the time it's passion. And in Harlin's case, I'd say that number is more like 100%. Harlin truly loves what he does. Something that started at an early age and that kid-like fascination has never left the man. How cool is that? I will say this is one of the funniest interviews I have ever done. Harlin has an incredible sense of humor, wrapped in a compassionate feel for the world around him and all the animals that he shares his home with. I have a feeling Harlin could do anything he wanted to...including 'stand-up' comedy. But lucky for us, the people of Grand Junction, he has chosen to be the Dr. Doolittle in our area...and I think that's just dandy.

Ed Lipton quietly goes about his business when it comes to organizing the Rose Hill Rally here in Grand Junction for St. Mary's Medical Center. The retired lawyer and avid cyclist seems to be always in motion whether it's riding his bike everyday...or doing some footwork for the Rose Hill Rally. A bike ride which is a fundraiser for The Rose Hill Hospitality House. A 20-Unit facility for patients and their family members that live outside Mesa County. A hidden gem and a godsend for families trying to get better and save costs from traveling and lodging. Ed has been the man behind the scene for almost 16 years and this is the 20th year of the Rally.
The 31 and 62 mile bike ride is a staple in the Grand Valley, raising anywhere from $20-$30-thousand dollars or more a year for the Rose Hill Hospitality House. Why does Ed do it? Because he's a nice guy and maybe, just maybe... there's something pretty cool about just giving when you can. Ed was very humble in the interview...letting me know that he has lots of help...and this is not "about him." I just love people like Ed Lipton... who could do a lot of things in retirement...but instead choose to give back. That's what makes our community so great.

Chris Terebisi has a full life, the Mom, Wife, full time worker ( she has TWO jobs Abbey Carpet and Orchard Mesa Lanes...) and Western Slope Native ...says she's really happy these days. But, and there is a 'but'... there is one time a year that she is reminded of some unfinished business in her world. A fundraiser she coordinates in honor of her mom, Mary ...who lost her battle with breast cancer 9 years ago. Chris says she will never forget the physical and mental toll cancer took on her mother and on the family. AND, that Mary died just a month before she was able to ever see her first Granddaughter, Chris's one and only child, was heartbreaking. So, while she was pregnant, Chris dealing with so many emotions...a brand new life inside her while her mom, just 54 years old at the time...was riddled with cancer...and life slowly leaking from her frail body. All Chris could do was just watch. So, a year after her mother's passing...Chris knew she had to do something to honor her mom who instilled so many great values in her.
Thus, Striking and Stroking for a Cure was born. Bowling at Orchard Mesa Lanes and Golfing at Chipeta Golf Course...all to raise money in Mary's Honor for the National Breast Cancer Association. To Date? Chris and all the people who have participated have raised more than $50,000.00! A lot of money...but better than that... A life lesson for Chris, her daughter and everyone who has lost somebody they love to Cancer. Talking to Chris... her passion for the cause, her anger at cancer and her vision for the future is poignant, candid and very honest.

Kathy Hetzel had been searching for her father since he left the family when she was just four years old...and in 1989...she found him, kinda. He had died just a year before. So she never got to resolve her issues with why a dad would leave her and her family... Enter 96.1 KSTAR and a contest. You see, Kathy in finding out her father had passed away...also discovered she had a brother she never knew about. So she found him, they talked...but it was distance, time and money keeping the two long-lost siblings apart...the Contest. KSTAR had a radio contest in 1989...where a listener would write a letter on why they should have a loved one flown in to the Grand Valley for Valentines Day...Kathy Wrote a heartfelt letter ...and you guessed it...She won the Contest. But for Kathy this was more than a contest...it was a reunion...34 years in the making...meeting a brother she never knew she had and discovering her past. KSTAR paid for her brother to come in... but what Kathy got from then on? Is priceless.

Howard "Howdy" Martsolf will tell you, he only really reads when he want's to learn something. So, when he decided to get into the Bee business with his son Andy and his Granddaughter, Bella...like Forrest Gump running across America... he started reading...and just kept on reading about Bees...the what, why, when and just how important bees are to the planet. Howdy is a renaissance man of sorts, venturing into dairy goats, drafting, the furniture business and even gold prospecting ...now the only gold Howdy, his son and granddaughter mine?...Is liquid gold...Honey!

Local Honey made by local bees and collected from several different locations across the Western Slope. Call him what you will, a 'Bee Whisperer', a "Bee Savant', a "pollen professor" or even just Howdy the Honey man... Howard is passionate for everything Bee! And, Howdy will tell you how important Bees are to the environment, crops, life and sustainability for us humans. Yup, Howdy is one of those people you meet and you just love the buzz of energy you get when you ask them about that one thing they are passionate about...and for Howdy and his family? It's Bees and collecting and selling the most natural, healthy and "wonderful product, as Howdy tells me...in the world... Local, Western Slope Honey! Bella's Bees Honey! Howdy, by the way? I met and interviewed Cathrine Mosher in her large room at HopeWest Hospice on February 17, 2016. The hospice room, not looking like anything you'd see in a hospital...but maybe in a mansion in the Redlands. Wood floors, rich and comfortable colors throughout, plants and some flowers...simple but elegant... the only sign of a hospital...the bed. The electric sleeping unit, with it's buttons, cords, the green and red lights, monitoring the frail body of Catherine, lying there, the bed is adjusted so Catherine is sitting up a bit. Huge windows with views of mountains to the South and the Colorado National Monument. It is incredibly comfortable for what it is... A place for people to die with dignity and peace. I had no idea what Catherine looked like before she got her terminal cancer...once I did...the transformation is dramatic and the effects of cancer and the treatments ...radical on the body. Catherine is frail, with a big smile, her sunken eyes yellow from jaundice...but it's the light and her spirit which shine through what is left of her shell. In our 30 minute interview. SHE is full of life, understands what's ahead and has made peace with her life, her children and whatever may lie ahead after this life is over. Acceptance, was her theme in the interview, she must have repeated it 10-20 times. Honesty, "brutally honest"...was the other theme. Telling me over and over that she is proud of her candid and upfront nature with everyone and everything in her life ...including with her children.
Born in Rangely, lived in Fruita and now, Catherine will die peacefully and comfortably in Grand Junction at HopeWest Hospice. There is so much more about Catherine Mosher...there is no way My 30 minute interview or 90-second AllGood News can capture. But this is what I came away with... Catherine Mosher, was a mother, a wife, a teacher, a friend, a fighter, devoted and honest. Like it or not , I have a feeling she wouldn't have had a problem saying it. And in what would be some people's darkest moments? She was a light, she was candid and she was so positive. And, she allowed me to come into her world, if only for a moment and she made ME feel comfortable. That is a true measure of Character, Heart and Spirit.
I'm posting this story on April 2,, 2016. I found out Catherine passed away on March 6, 2016. I was sad...for not putting this together sooner so she could hear how wonderful she sounds and is...but, I think her family, her sons...and most importantly, she knew and knows...that her time on this earth was well spent, and even in the face of adversity she smiled and passed knowing... she was who she was ...and the world wasn't going to change that.

Sara Hect, a teacher, saw a need, with her own daughter who was lagging in school, seemed disinterested and wasn't doing her work. That's when Sara had an AHA! Moment. She discovered her daughter had dyslexia. The phonological issue in which kids and words and shaping them ...just don't work so well. It has nothing to do with intelligence...or as many people think , reading things backwards or seeing them that way, there is so much more to it. So... Sara did her research, and got her daughter the help she needed and now she is thriving. But it was other parents coming to Sara, asking for help with a diagnosis or just tutoring to get their child the support and extra care they needed...that motivated her to start Western Colorado Educational Services and the Non-Profit AHA! A program to help those kids with Dyslexia and other learning disorders realize they're not stupid or dumb...they have a learning disorder, a different way of seeing and hearing the world. And Sara says it was a money issue as well...with so many parents coming her way...she knew she didn't have the time or resources to help them all. The Non-Profit is now helping with that. With a Board just seated and the designation she needed...kids now across the Western Slop don't have to travel to Denver to get a diagnosis that could cost upwards to $2,500.00. Sara and Western Colorado Educational Services can do it for much cheaper AND you don't have to drive all the way to Denver. Sara saw a need...and as busy as she is with her own life and large family...she knew she could help, and now she's changing lives with the cerebral and affordable Western Colorado Educational Services. Madison lives in Montrose with her Parents and her baby brother and her pet Guinea Pig. But it wasn't always that way. Her parents had split and little Madison was so tired of going back and forth between her mom and dad. So she did ... a little praying. And yup, somehow, someway, her parents found that spark and got back together. But Madison wasn't done, she decided to pray for a baby brother, and lo and behold...her mother got pregnant with a ...baby boy! Madison, not surprised at all, believing the whole time in prayer and good things...she even prayed to get a guinea pig...and ta da! She got a guinea pig. Madison says she understands the power of prayer and doesn't abuse her grip on faith. But, she says... every now and then...it's okay to pray for those things that are most important ...like family.

David Watkins had a dream to have his own architectural firm, live in the Northwest and just enjoy the groove of a young educated man, with a simple plan. But, there is always a but... David had no idea how much his life would change with a simple move to the Grand Junction to help his mom through some health issues and the four children she was taking care of. David didn't know his mother was going to die. She did...leaving 4 children without anybody. Uncle David had grown attached to the kids...he decided to stay, no matter the cost to his personal dreams and take care of the kids. The personal and financial tolls obvious for a young man. But in David's eyes, minor struggles when it comes to family and doing the right thing. So, with four kids, there is a lot of running around and David's car? Not too reliable, matter of fact not reliable at all...breaking down all the time. So, Joy, his sister who lives in California had a friend who lives in the Grand Valley tell her about a contest on our sister station " Magic 93.1 ", A contest from Antonelli's Advance Automotive to give a car to someone who really needs it. Joy sent the 150 word essay in describing David's situation and what he's been doing and been through over the last few months... and then forgot about it. But Dan Antonelli, the owner didn't...it was the letter he picked, the winner of a car was going to be David Watkins. Having met and talked with David Watkins I can tell you two things...he's determined and he loves those kids...oh and this car he won? He and the kids call it the "Lucky Car". Good things do happen to good people doing ...good things. And Joy, David and Dan... All good people doing good things for the right reasons...making positive changes in the world with positive actions.

Melanie Morrison is an advocate...for positive, healing change in her community here on the Western Slope. What was once taboo...is now talked about...domestic violence, better yet... the new inclusive term, partner violence. But are we doing all we can do...are we ignoring the 'red flags' around us? The signs a loved one is in a destructive relationship. The isolation, the shame, withdrawn and wilting? Why are we so afraid of helping the ones we love? So many questions. And, there are answers. But...if we don't move forward, be pro-active? are we complicit? Enter, ONE Billion Rising... A global event aimed at empowering women through knowledge, dance and song. The message? YOU are not alone and you can change! Melanie, who is organizing the Global event which will take place at Colorado Mesa University on February 20th, 2016 at 10am... says...she may be a dreamer...but "wouldn't it be powerful if the whole world is filled with compassion?" There would be a change ...for the good. The One Billion Rising event... is based on the fact that 1 in 3 women will be raped or involved in some sort of domestic abuse in their lifetime. Melanie says that is staggering... but there is hope. The One Billion Rising will feature speakers addressing the issue of partner violence, resources and ...the Dance. Why a dance? Well, Melissa says violence can be paralyzing and dance is a way to release those bonds that hold women back...and it's universal. Melissa hopes you will join her and the other One Billion Women who will be getting empowered on February 20th at CMU. It's easy, fun and you will find...you're not alone and there is HOPE. John Mok-Lamme will tell you he had a great idea to get homeless and abused teens off the street and into a safe place. That place eventually became ...The House. But he will also tell you... he came to Dave Beck, the General Manager at MBC Grand Broadcasting a little naive. But that's why we all work together on a good cause. Ideas are great, implementation is the hard stuff. But the partnership has proved to be a winning one for teens in the Grand Valley. Who knew there were almost two-hundred homeless teens in Mesa County? Another hundred 'couch surfing' because they either don't have a home or can't go there...for a host of reasons...including sexual abuse. John's vision was to not just get them off the street, but get these victims help...real help and get them on their feet to get healed and to rise above these horrible beginnings. The collaboration with radio...and John's undying passion for his cause has the Program doing amazing things for teens...The House is changing lives...for the good. But just like anything ...there are expenses. So they've come up with a new program...'Wheels that Heal' a great opportunity for the public to now donate their old, unwanted cars to The House. Old cars can bring a lot of cash...money that can keep the doors open and hope alive for our homeless young people here in the Grand Valley. Kids Aid, The Backpack Program started out as an idea from one Mike Berry. He saw a need and took steps to make a change. Kids in Mesa County going hungry on the weekends. Away from school and the school cafeteria. So Mike approached MBC Grand Broadcasting in Grand Junction, Colorado. It was there that he met General Manager, Dave Beck and a powerful collaboration was formed. Mike Berry with his drive and passion and the power of local radio. The rest is history. Fast forward 8 years and Kids Aid is feeding over two-thousand kids a week in Mesa County... at a cost of over $7-thousand dollars a week. All thanks to grants and the kindness of the Grand Valley. And now ... they've created the Program, Wheels that Heal... opening the door for the donation from the public... of old cars that run and don't run and really any other vehicle. Those cars that don't mean much to you...can go a long way to putting food in a young person's belly. Executive Director of Kids Aid, Mary Beth Luedtke says... "the power of radio is a major factor in their success in getting the word out about the need for food for kids in the Grand Valley." For almost 20 years, Ann Judge has spent at least 8 of her fall Sundays, loading up the symbol of the Denver Broncos and heading to a stadium packed with thousands of passionate football fans. And for Thunder?...the most recognizable of all the NFL mascots? Its just another day at the office. Leading the team out of the tunnel and onto the furious, buzzing field into the den of devoted Denver Broncos fans. I got a chance to talk to Ann while she and Thunder were waiting off highway 80 in Wyoming...heading to Super Bowl 50. Bad weather shutting down the road. Thunder 3 or tres... on a journey to the biggest stage in the world...hopefully to be running on the field a lot. Ann Judge lives in Bennett, Colorado, where she trains Arabian horses. But the Thunder(s)? Yup, there's more than one...are one of her biggest loves...the long hours of training to get a horse to trust you as you send it into a roaring stadium, which they would normally run from... is her passion...the riding she says...is just the cherry on the top. But oh, what a cherry. You see, as John Elway said... "I loved seeing that white horse...it means something good happened!" Thunder comes onto the field everytime the team scores... Ann at the helm, holding a huge flag...the crowd going wild. I asked Ann to describe what it's like to come out of that tunnel, with the team behind her, grunting and jacked-up, fireworks going off...cheerleaders lining up like lights on a runway ...and she and Thunder bolting out of the darkness first and into the roar of the crowd...leading the team. It was the early 1960's and Ron Barstad had just gotten out of the Navy and was loving life in Denver and the Hometown Football Team, the Denver Broncos. And his love for the team has never waned...Winning 2 Super Bowls in 7 tries, Ron and his wife of 40 years, Judy... have ridden the roller coaster that is being a true fan of the Denver Broncos, who didn't even have a winning season until 1973. But since that time they're one of the most successful AFC teams in NFL history. Ron has been a season ticket holder for more than five decades and he's entered and lost in the ticket lottery to go to those 7 previous Super Bowls. But with the Broncos getting in this year ...and Ron's failing health, Judy knew this might be the last chance to get her husband the gift that has been on top of his bucket list most of his adult life...to see his team play in the Big Game! So after some letter writing the Broncos top brass...and a personal crusade... Judy's persistence paid off... and they were awarded 4 tickets. They still have to pay for them...but getting the tickets and more importantly getting the man she loves to the biggest game of his life? Priceless. And as you'll hear...this is more than just a man's love for a sports team... We all have a regrets...big or small, they mean something different to each of us. Even at age 57, 32 years removed from his last cigarette...Thomas McCloskey says he still looks back on how silly it was to smoke as a kid. He started when he was 13...and finally kicked the habit at age 25. These days he's got a wife, two kids...he's a Pharmacist with Primary Care Partners in Grand Junction, Colorado, and he's very active and loves the outdoors. But, it's those 12 years where cigarettes had a hold over him, that still bug him a bit. Why? A question nobody can really answer. Peer pressure, everybody else was doing it? Thomas just knows he was too young to know why he started and realized once he was in college? The smoking was something that needed to end. Now, you might think I'm going to tell you that Thomas quit, and went on to win a slew of marathons and climb Mt. Everest. Nope, but what he did do was change. Got rid of a bad habit and replaced it with a good habit, working out. And he's grateful everyday for the change. And Thomas will be the first to tell you that YOU can change too. Just because you have a good job, doesn't mean your happy. Barbara Butlter had a good job and she was good at it. An Assessor for Lincoln and Mesa counties in Colorado. But, short of running for the office...she had peaked. So...the young girl from the southeast plains of Limon, Colorado made a plan. She had no idea it would be more than a decade in the making or involve a few geographical moves. That plan? Go to law school and possibly become a judge. Babs was 30-years old. She and her husband moved to Grand Junction, she enrolled in Mesa State College...and for 8 years straight ...she worked for the county and went to college year-round. Driven? A little bit. So she got her undergrad. Now? It was time for phase-two of getting that Law Degree. A move to Arizona... she and Brad, her husband... headed south and a few years later? The little girl from a small town who wanted to be a Stewardess? Is now with one of the best law firms on the Western Slope. Babs has been practicing law for more than a decade...oh and after just four years?, She just made partner with Dufford Waldeck Milburn & Krohn. Not too shabby. There's a lot more...but what I like about Babs...and you might too... is she's got a neat perspective on life. And getting from point A to point B. Sonya Thompson is a beautician, hairdresser, a mom, a wife and free time is not on her radar. But having a big heart and a zest for being busy... there is always something more to do...right? Right. She recently heard about a program in Denver... people putting clothes on poles for the homeless with notes attached that say, " I'm not lost, I'm just here to keep you warm." Sonya thought, what a great idea. The Salon she works for "Revolution Evolve" in downtown Grand Junction, sees it's share of homeless walking past their windows. And Sonya, being Sonya...thought, I can make a difference...even if it's a little something...like asking her clients to bring in scarves, gloves, coats and even socks that they don't use or need ...and she would stick 'em on a pole for the homeless...on her way home after a 12 hour day. Well, she's been doing it for a couple of months now. She puts the clothes out at night and in the morning? They're gone. Why do it? Because she says it's just a little something she can do to make a difference. And it just makes her feel good knowing somebody is a little warmer on these frigid Colorado winter nights because of something as simple as putting coats on a pole. Here is Sonya's Allgood News.
Paul Pitton has been doing several things really good for almost four decades in the Grand Valley...in just one spot... Palisade High School in Western Colorado. Math Teacher, Football, Track and Little League Coach. Married almost 40 years, 4 sons who all have their college degrees. Steady, Consistent, a man of his word...and passion, for his job(s) and for what he does...seeing kids succeed. Ask anybody about Paul and you get "what a good guy" or "he taught my son or daughter." So, when Paul saw a need on the District 51 School Board for someone who's 'been there' as in with the kids, the parents and the athletes ...he thought he could be that voice. Did I mention Paul has a Master's Degree and his specialty is Finance? He noticed a lot of numbers coming out of Denver and the Legislature weren't adding up...and he thought and thinks... he could make a difference. That's when the Roller Coaster began. Paul throwing his hat in the ring. First he was told because he was a Teacher and a Coach, he couldn't run. That got straightened out. Then because District 51 had not updated their District Maps, he thought he was running for the right seat, come to find out those boundaries had changed some time a go with no one in the administration updating the changes. So Paul being true to the people already supporting him and being true to himself and the School District he loves said "If I win...I'll move." You guessed it, the People spoke and He won. So He got an apartment within his boundaries and still maintaining a house and a mortgage,which as you can imagine, not financially easy for anybody. But he did it for the right reasons and of course, he is Paul. Say you're gonna do something you do it. So, all done right? Nope, three Mesa County residents, James "Gil" Tisue, husband of the current director for District B, Ann Tisue, Kent Carson, and Dale Pass appealed Judge David Bottger's decision allowing Pitton's votes for Director District B to count in the November election, despite his residency in District D. Sound amazingly confusing? It was and is... but Paul won...He's on the Board and his case has been heard and everyone is waiting for a decision from the State's High Court. Meanwhile ...it is a new year, 2016, and Paul is ready to go to work at a Position that by the way pays exactly $0.00. That's right it is a elected, volunteer, non-paid position. Adversity... Paul says it's just part of the deal. "I'm not a Politician"... Paul tells me in the interview... and I think that's why he persevered and why the PEOPLE ...voted him in. Integrity can't be taught. It is observed...and Paul has been shining his brand of integrity for a long time in the young minds of the Grand Valley. It's some of the adults that appear to still have a lot to learn. Darrell Cox believes in honesty, doesn't understand dishonesty and is just enjoying life at age 74. He doesn't live on an island or have a fancy home in a ski town...he just loves life and he's comfortable. He did a turn in the Navy in the 60's was married to his wife for 48 years until she passed away a few years ago and has worked as a mechanic most of his life. Darrell is just beginning to understand Karma...in a good way. Just a few weeks ago, he dropped an envelope behind a booth at a local diner which had $3000.00 in cash in it. He had no idea...but an honest busboy turned it in. Karma...and in 2009, two days after getting laid off from his job... he won a million dollars playing the lottery. He retired. A good man, he has raised 6 daughters...and finally, Darrell was set for a little R&R...maybe that trip to Australia he's always wanted. But duty called... one of his daughters battling substance abuse... so Darrell did the right thing and got custody of her two boys, his grandsons. That was 3 years ago. Did I mention Darrell, 74, is a single Grandparent/Parent now raising 2 boys, ages 5 & 7? What a guy right? Karma. He's 50 years old, he's worked with his boss, Randy Emmons, as a busboy for the last nine years at Randy's Southside Diner in Orchard Mesa, Colorado. A small suburb of Grand Junction. In that time Johnny Duckworth III, better known as 'Thumper' has proven himself a loyal, hard worker...who does whatever it takes to get to work, walk, get a ride, ride a bicycle. He's beloved by all the regulars at the diner...and though Thumper has had a host of hard times, his work and appreciation for the simple things in life have never wained. So last month when he found an envelope full of cash, left behind at a booth he was cleaning...without hesitation, he turned it over to his boss. Randy was so impressed by his employees honesty, knowing how much that money would have meant to Thumper...he started a Gofundme.com campaign for him. the goal? To raise $3-thousand dollars. The response? Well, it's been out of this world...with national outlets, like USA Today, The Today Show and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation picking up on the story of a busboy...doing the right thing...doing good. It seems so simple, but for some reason, Thumper's story has struck a chord with people in America and as far away as South Africa. Why? Who knows... maybe we just love a good story? Maybe we don't hear enough of them...or maybe, just maybe, we like it when an underdog climbs from the bottom without stepping on anybody else to do it. By the way, the money raised so far? How bout more than $25-thousand dollars! The money will be life changing for Thumper, getting him into some stable housing, some reliable transportation and some money for his future. It all started with a good deed and a little help from Randy...and the universe took over. Thumper will tell you...it's really not about all the hubbub. Paul and Mandy Hughes are vibrant, athletic, outgoing and in love. After having Olivia, their beautiful,healthy daughter, three years ago…they decided to have another child. Things were looking good until they went to see the doctor…to find out if they were going to have a boy or a girl. The doctor said…" they needed to talk." A wave of dread and emotion flooded over both Paul and Mandy. They found out they were going to have a daughter …but they also found out she would have had half a heart. Mandy gave birth to Aubrie and the last 15 months have been a roller coaster ride for the family. Spending Months in Denver at Children's Hospital… 8 surgeries… 2 of those for Aubrie's little heart. They're home now in Grand Junction, Colorado…but Aubrie still needs another heart surgery in about a year or so…and doctors say she'll need a heart transplant sometime down the road. But for now? Aubrie is learning to crawl and grab and do a little catching up as a toddler… she spent so much time in the hospital. As for Paul and mandy? They are giving back to the community that helped them so much get through what is nothing less than a crazy, dark time for a family trying to learn, understand and watch their baby go through so much. It's not everyday you get good news. Usually it's bills, boredom and mundane stuff. And for teenagers in the small town of Cedaredge, Colorado, just at the base of the Grand Mesa and 30 minutes to the next town that has a Walmart? Excitement and activities are the exception, not the rule. So, for members of the Cedaredge High School Band, this was going to be another year of practice, marching in front of the small football crowds and maybe a local town parade or two. But, that good news... It came in the form of a phone call and lots of disbelief. You see Band Director Melissa Gross and the Members of the scrappy and talented Marching Troup got a message from Congressman, Scott Tipton, something about Marching in the Memorial Day Parade in May of 2016…in Washington D.C.! How Cool is that!? Not just marching and representing the Western Slope of Colorado, but for a lot of these musical minds…it will be a trip of a lifetime. A chance to visit the Nation's Capitol and visit some of the most historical sites. Some of these kids have never been on a plane, let alone out of the Western Slope! So now the work begins… Lots of Practice and Fundraising. You see, to get all these guys and the chorus to D.C.? It's gonna cost $60-thousand dollars! So, the car washes and Bake sales have begun. And, You can help! Just call the Cedaredge High School and tell them you want to give a few bucks or more for the Band…It'll put a song in your heart and you will support a great little band. John Harold was a city boy from the East before he got the hankering to move out west almost 50 years ago. Since that time? He's created a legacy for himself and the small town of Olathe, Colorado …situated on the Western Slope of the Centennial state. That legacy? Corn. Not just any corn…sweet,sweet corn. From Los Angeles to Orlando…people sing and eat the praises of the vegatable grown in the tiny town of Olathe. Family, Friends and treating his workers like his own children…John says these things alone make for a great farming environment…and then of course the product. Corn is what he grows…but it's his approach to life that is his winning formula.

Debbie Faulkner always wanted to be a veterinarian, ever since she was a little girl. But life, kids and a husband took center stage and her dream? Well she’s had a wonderful life and a move to Crawford Colorado was the icing on the cake. A 40-acre ranch with famed Singer, Joe Cocker as your neighbor? And horses and assorted farm animals?... life was good. But her love for animals was still there…you know the abandoned ones, the ones left on the side of the highway or owners who somehow grew tired of a pet they’ve had for years. You see, Delta County Colorado has no Animal Rescues, none run by the city anyway…and Debbie? She saw an opportunity to make a difference. 6 years later and with more than two thousand animals rescued and given brand new, loving homes…she has found her calling in the form of The Black Canyon Animal Sanctuary. Like free range chickens, the dogs are free to roam and play in large open grassy pens…as long as they prove they can get along…its called communal grouping. And judging by her success and the tail wagging I saw at this beautiful valley ranch…these are some very fortunate rescues!
Debbie is passionate about getting the dogs great new homes and posts all the animals on her Facebook page – as she says “ the good, the bad and the ugly” of some of the heartbreaking stories of the critters she sees everyday.

I dropped by the National Anthem tryouts for the local minor league baseball team. Looking for a story about people singing and why. And then I heard Mathias. He didn't sing that well, he even missed a few words, but it was his passion in belting out the sometimes tough ballad. I could just tell he was just genuinely glad to be there…and here…in America. And, there was much more to the story. Mathias came to America four years ago from Uganda, East Africa. A place he says where just walking on the street can be extremely dangerous and going to school is a privilege not a right. He's amazingly grateful. A smile in his voice and a hunger to learn and take in everything America has to offer, Mathias offering up a little something for all of us in the form of perspective. Dreams can be as simple as a home and a flower garden. Jackie walked by the Habitat for Humanity application for 2 years. And there it was, just waiting to be filled out. Jackie, a single mom of 2 kids had had it with bad relationships and 'silly' addictions. She had cleaned up her act, but was still stuck in just getting by and in her words was "afraid of moving forward." Odd for a mom so tough and ready for a change. Fear can keep us from becoming better. So Jackie? She finally mustered up the courage and turned that application in and just 2 weeks later? She got the news… strap on your tool belt …your gonna start building your house! Life begins when we take a little action, just ask Jackie…Here is her Allgood News.
Ashley went outside to call her best friend Kiser… she called his name, a long pause and then nothing, silence. Kiser was gone. In the high country of the Colorado Mountains even smart and seasoned dogs can lose their way in the high altitude and dense forests. She called again …nothing. But then? She got a call. The mystery of Kiser's disappearance wasn't in the mountains at all, it was in the menacing mind of a thief. The caller said she had seen a man lure the yellow labrador into his car and drive away. What to do!? Social Media! Yup even in the sparse mountain towns of Colorado it is amazing what a little Facebook footwork will do. John Davis builds houses. The Business owner located in the desert town of Grand Junction, Colorado is also passionate about his country. So what's a guy to do who has never been in politics but wants to make those changes? Well, for John it was simple...run for President of the United States. Reaction? "crazy" was a word used 'lovingly' a lot in the family circle. But the man who builds houses, a strong family business and is deeply religious …said why can't I be President? So…he set out on a year-long trek to visit every county in the United States…all 3,200-hundred of them! I Interviewed John before he took off in a bid to be the President-elect back in 2012. Today, Kevin sells real estate…but flash back more than 30 years?…Long hair, mustache and lots of teenage trips to the arcade pumping pockets full of change into one free-standing machine, equipped with eight, rubber-gripped handles, the metal crunching sound as quarters pop into the metal tray inside the game …releasing the white ping-pong type balls and then a 'drop' and then the furious action of 4 men jerking and twisting, faces contorted as they spin plastic men back and forth, flipping and failing…trying to get that white ball into the opponents goal. It was 1945, Joe Prinster was just hours into his high school diploma when he was told to "pack and be ready to get on the train in the morning." Next thing you know he's on riding the rails to Denver… heading to boot camp….and then? He's in New York City…boarding a ship ...bound for Europe. It all happened so fast. But what happened when he got into the war-zone happened even faster! It was 1944, Don was about to ship off to war...the 18 year-old looking dapper in his Sailor uniform and Patricia? A beautiful young doe-eyed teen. They were together for just one date. To this day, neither can remember how Don's class ring ended up with Patricia…but the date went "pretty good." Don went on to fight in WWII and each went their separate ways, marrying other people,having children, but fast-forward 65 years, a class reunion in a small town in Wyoming and memories reignited with a simple question from patricia, " Do you remember me?"
