Pastor Brett shares from Ephesians 4:7-13 in the Family Matters series, speaking about how to build up so that others can lead out. We want to be equipped to be selfless and to love, because to service and to contribute is to love. This will impact how we choose to live as a church community.
How do we live a counter-cultural life? God calls us to be holy as he is holy, this may seem like a great call and an impossible task. From this passage, we look to examine the powerful work of salvation as Jesus not only looks to transform our actions but our entire outlook on life.

This introductory sermon on 1 Peter goes over the start of this little New Testament letter as Pastor Brett discusses salmon, sin, unicorn flotation devices, and salvation. We are created to head upstream but our salvation and our strength doesn’t start with us but with God. Take heart, receive grace, and start facing the currents.
Facing trials is tough. It is easy to float downstream. But heading upstream takes courage, tenacity, and intention. Where does one find the impulse to go upstream amidst life’s obstacles? We live in a world with pressures all around us and it is easy for our soul to become weary. In this teaching, Jim Richards looks at the story of God speaking to a weary prophet and provides insights on how we can overcome the weariness of the soul.
We default to thinking about ourselves first and we are trained to have ambition to educate and establish ourselves. It seems life is often about climbing to greater self-achievement, self-empowerment, and self-fulfilment. Lots of self… is it working? What does Jesus have to say about this? Jesus speaks of true greatness, true living, and abiding joy and his path towards the abundant life is quite counterintuitive.
Confession & forgiveness are key practices for soul health. In this teaching, guest speaker Mike Bidell reminds us that the good news of Jesus frees us from having to hide or impress as we can bring all our shadows to him and find forgiveness and grace.
What is true human flourishing? It appears as you survey our cultural narrative true human flourishing is found in self-fulfilment. In contrast to this, Jesus makes the radical claim that true human flourishing is found in him and we experience it not through self-fulfilment but in fact through self-denial. Through this sermon we have three teachers unpack what true human flourishing is as defined by Jesus according to John 15.
Jesus invites us to life to the full and a way that is easy and light. But life doesn’t feel light, it feels noisy, hectic, and busy. We are more anxious and overwhelmed then we were a decade ago. Where is the peace? Where is the fullness of life? Pastor Brett looks at the ways of Jesus and his practice of solitude and how following the lifestyle of Jesus can help lead us to receiving life from Jesus.
What do you want in life? What do you want? It seems we find ourselves always “busy” and mostly “tired.” Why? Where are we rushing to? Who are we hurrying to become? In the midst of ourselves, Jesus invites us to peace, rest, and ease but his invitation has some challenge...it will involve some decluttering. But it is worth it.
Jesus as the king of the world, breaks into human history, and who are the people that surround his birth? Not the strong or the powerful but the unexpected characters. This triple teach unpacks the Christmas story from the perspective of the shepherd, Mary and the wise men and examines their response to Jesus and how that impacts our response in the twenty-first century.
The Christmas story has long ignited our imagination as it is full of supernatural elements, which includes the virgin birth, the guiding star and the God of the universe becoming a small child. But did this story actually happen? In this teaching, Brenden will look at the prophecy of Isaiah as he examined the prophetic, mythological and historical nature of Christmas, in which the light of our world breaks into our darkness.
If we are going to live outside the box and invest for the future of this life and the next we need to take action. Jesus is inviting us into more. He is inviting us to think and live outside the box.
This week we welcome our guest speaker, Ron Davis, who talks about filling our box: and that we need to get something in the box in order to get something out of the box. Scripture tells us: give, and it'll be given unto, and by honouring God with our "first fruits", as all belongs to Him.
God isn't done and neither are we. Pastor Brett closes the series on Acts discussing the final verses of Acts, the life of the apostle Paul, and lessons for us.
How do we make Jesus known in our city? In this teaching we have three speakers looking at Paul’s ministry in Corinth but also practically what it looks like to make Jesus known in the City. It is full of a mixture of biblical teaching along with practical everyday stories of how to live our our faith in the city of Vancouver.
How does the gospel interact with our culture? In this teaching guest speaker, Michael Chinchilla from the Village Church unpacks Paul's defence of the gospel at the Areopagus and looks at the implications for the modern world.
The Apostle Paul is bothered by how Athens is "full of idols." What do idols look like in our city and our hearts? Pastor Brett discusses how Jesus wants to bring transformation not just to our behaviours but our beliefs. Heart transformation is what we need.
