If you’ve ever felt guilty for buying something new—even something that actually made your life easier—this episode is for you.

Because decluttering isn’t about never buying again. It’s about buying smarter. More intentionally. In ways that support your current season (not clutter your home or conscience).

In this honest and practical episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on 8 simple purchases I’ve made over the years that have truly helped me streamline routines, reduce friction, and support my peace.

From laundry hacks that keep my boys’ floors clear 🙌 to the one kitchen item that makes every morning feel just a little more joyful—these aren’t “influencer” recommendations. They’re real-life, tried-and-true tools that help a home work.

💡 What You’ll Walk Away With: * The reframe you need if you feel guilty about buying (even useful!) things * My go-to habit-supporting tools for smoother mornings, less nagging, and fewer meltdowns * Why spending money can align with minimalist values (and how to tell if it actually will) * The underrated power of functional upgrades—and how to spot them in your own routines

🛍️ Mentioned in This Episode: * Hanging laundry hampers for kids’ rooms * A countertop espresso machine that sparks joy ☕ * Matching garage bins that finally ended bin Jenga * Reusable plastic sleeves + dry erase markers for family routines * Visual timers for time-blind kiddos (and mamas) * Our beloved digital photo frame * My favorite way to “read” more books without the guilt stack → Audible

✨ Let This Be Your Permission Slip: Buying less is a powerful tool. But buying better? That’s how you build a home that serves your life.

If summer’s approaching and you’re already feeling behind—hello, cluttered counters, mystery sunscreen stash, and overflowing school papers—this episode is your roadmap to reset.

In this episode, I’m walking you through 5 specific things to declutter now that will make your summer feel easier, more peaceful, and way more manageable. No massive overhaul. No organizing binge. Just small, powerful wins that help you create the margin you’re craving.

Because here’s the truth: You don’t need more bins or a color-coded summer calendar. You need space—for joy, rest, fun, and being present.

What You’ll Learn in This Episode: 1️⃣ How to Clear the End-of-School-Year Dump Zone (Without Guilt) Tired of stacks of artwork and random folders piling up? I’ll show you how to quickly process school papers—and how to make one decision that eliminates the overwhelm for good.

2️⃣ The Easy Way to Declutter Last Year’s Summer Gear No more moldy towels, broken goggles, or expired sunscreen hanging around. Learn how to create a quick “maybe” bin to make decluttering painless and kid-friendly.

3️⃣ A 10-Minute Pantry Reset for Summer Sanity Toss the stale snacks, organize your overflow, and create a grab-and-go summer snack bin your kids can actually use—without asking you 47 times a day.

4️⃣ How to Let Go of Your “Maybe Someday” Summer Projects This is the pep talk you didn’t know you needed. You don’t have to organize your whole house or start a garden to have a meaningful summer. I’ll help you pick one thing—and release the rest with zero guilt.

5️⃣ Breaking Free from the Pressure to “Do Summer Right” This one goes deep. I’m sharing what shifted for me when I gave up being the Pinterest-perfect fun mom and chose presence over performance.

💡 One Powerful Reminder from This Episode:

“Summer doesn’t need to be productive to be valuable. It just needs space to be what you need it to be.”

💬 Your Challenge This Week: Pick one clutter zone we talked about—school paper piles, summer gear, or your pantry—and give yourself just 10 minutes to tackle it. Then pause, breathe, and soak in the difference it makes.

Ever cleared your kitchen counters… only to blink and find them cluttered again? 😩

You are not imagining it—there’s a reason every surface in your home seems to magically collect stuff. It’s called the Countertop Clutter Magnet Effect, and once you notice it, you can’t unsee it.

In today’s episode, I’m breaking down why stuff attracts stuff (yes, there’s brain science behind it), and what you can do to finally stop the clutter creep—without giving up your much-needed visual reminders.

Because if you're the kind of person who needs to SEE your supplements, bills, or to-do list to actually remember them… this episode is going to change your life. 🙌

3 Key Takeaways from This Episode:

  1. Why “Stuff Attracts Stuff” Is a Real Thing It’s not just clutter—it’s how our brains work. Once one item lands on a surface, it signals to our brains that it’s now a holding zone. I’ll explain how this happens and how to break the pattern.

  2. How to Keep Visual Reminders Without the Chaos If “out of sight, out of mind” is your struggle, I’ve got you. From daily action trays to vertical organizers, I’ll show you how to keep your reminders visible but contained so they don’t take over your space.

  3. How to Use the Clutter Magnet Effect For You Yep, you can flip the script. I’ll share how one simple change—like adding a fruit bowl—turned a clutter hotspot into a healthy habit zone. (And how you can do the same with your desk, bathroom, or entryway.)

AirDoctor Air Purifier Invisible clutter is a thing too—dust, dander, and all the stuff you can’t see but definitely don’t want to breathe in. 👉 Get up to $300 off select models at AirDoctorPro.com with code KATY

Your Challenge This Week:

Take a look around your home and identify one clutter magnet zone. Then ask yourself: “What do I actually want this space to attract?” Pick one small swap—maybe a tray, a clear bin, or a vertical organizer—and give that space a job. Let’s stop letting clutter call the shots.

Ever feel like you have a closet full of clothes and still nothing to wear? 🙋‍♀️ You’re not alone—and if you're constantly buying new pieces hoping this will be the outfit that finally makes you feel confident, this episode is for you.

I used to believe that creating a wardrobe I loved meant buying more. But the truth? No amount of shopping fixed that feeling. It wasn’t until I stopped asking “What do I need to buy?” and started asking “What do I need to see?” that everything changed.

In this episode, I’m sharing 3 wardrobe strategies that completely shifted how I dress, shop, and feel about my closet. If you’re ready to declutter your wardrobe, stop overbuying clothes, and finally love getting dressed again—this one’s a must-listen.

🔑 3 Key Takeaways from This Episode: 1️⃣ Find Your Personal Style Using the 3-Word Method No more following trends or trying to wear pieces that don’t feel like you. I’ll walk you through how to define your style using Alison Bornstein’s three-word method—so you can confidently choose outfits that match your life, your vibe, and how you want to feel. (Hint: it’s not about “what’s in,” it’s about what feels right.)

2️⃣ Discover the Power of Color Analysis Color is one of the most overlooked tools in curating a closet you love. I share how getting my colors done by Your Color Guru changed the way I shop and helped me declutter my wardrobe with less overwhelm. (Use code CLUTTERFREE for 10% off any package!)

3️⃣ Shop Your Closet First—Before You Buy Anything New You don’t need more clothes—you need more inspiration. I’ll show you how I use screenshots from my favorite brands and stylists to “shop my closet” and recreate fresh outfits from pieces I already own. (It gives me the same dopamine hit as buying something new—without the regret.)

Can you believe it? 300 episodes! What started as a simple mission to help women declutter has grown into a movement—one filled with transformation, growth, and more "aha" moments than I ever imagined.

To celebrate this milestone, I’m sharing the three biggest lessons I’ve learned after all these conversations and coaching sessions. If you’ve ever wondered what it really means to simplify, this one’s for you.

In this episode:

  • Lesson 1: Clutter Is a Symptom Decluttering is rarely about the stuff—it’s about what the stuff represents. Guilt, fear, or a past identity? I share a powerful story from a listener who let go of more than just boxes of craft supplies.
    • Try this: Ask yourself: What does this item represent, and is it helping me move forward?
  • Lesson 2: Change Starts With Compassion You can’t bully yourself into being more organized. Real growth begins with kindness and curiosity. Ditch the self-criticism and make space for grace.
    • Try this: When you feel overwhelmed, ask: How can I meet this moment with kindness instead of criticism?
  • Lesson 3: Simplify Your Time First Decluttering your calendar matters just as much as decluttering your closet. Learn how I started protecting my time—and how it brought more peace than any organizing bin ever could.
    • Try this: Ask: What’s one thing I can say no to this week to create more space for what matters?

✨ Your challenge: Take one small step. Whether it's clearing a drawer or reclaiming 15 minutes of quiet, small shifts = big results.

Thanks for being part of this amazing journey. Here’s to the next 300!

Let’s talk about that feeling. The one where you're managing doctor's appointments, school events, birthday gifts, grocery lists, carpool logistics—and yet somehow, it still looks like you're "just" staying on top of life. But under the surface? It’s heavy. It’s exhausting. It’s invisible.

In today’s conversation, I sat down with Dr. Morgan Cutlip (yes, again—and you’ll see why!) to talk about her brand-new book A Better Share and how we can finally name, understand, and redistribute the mental load many of us carry.

We dive deep into what the mental load actually is (spoiler: it’s more than just remembering appointments), how it shows up in your everyday life, and how to finally start conversations with your partner that don’t end in frustration or tears.

Even if you feel like you’ve already "tried talking about it," this episode offers powerful reframes, practical scripts, and gentle encouragement to keep going—because you deserve a life that doesn’t constantly feel like one giant to-do list.

In this episode, we chat about:

  • Why "just tell me what to do" misses the mark in partnerships
  • The 3 overlapping types of tasks that make up the mental load (and why they’re so hard to delegate)
  • The hidden cost of emotional labor in motherhood
  • What to say when your partner gets defensive (and how to prep for the convo so you don’t spiral)
  • How to ask for appreciation (and why that’s not needy—it’s necessary!)

If you've ever felt like you're carrying too much—and no one quite sees it—this episode is a must-listen.

📘 Grab Dr. Morgan's brand-new book A Better Share https://a.co/d/alpGD4g

It’s the handbook every couple needs to navigate modern family life with more clarity, teamwork, and peace. Trust me, you’ll want to highlight every page.

Thanks so much for listening, and if this episode gave you an aha! moment, would you mind sharing it with a friend or leaving a quick review? It helps this little show reach more moms who need it.

Hey friend, I just got back from our annual camping trip to Hunting Island State Park, and it reminded me of something important—slower moments hold the most joy. Wandering the beach, looking for shark teeth, watching the kids play—no rush, no distractions, just being present. And I realized: Why do these moments feel so peaceful, and how can we bring more of them into everyday life?

What We’re Talking About Today: * Why slowing down makes life feel better (and actually be better) * The science of ‘glimmers’—tiny moments of joy we often miss * Simple ways to create more breathing room in your daily routine

Speaking of Finding Calm… If you’re looking for a way to bring more peace into your home, let me tell you about the AirDoctor air purifier—a total game-changer.

Did you know indoor air can be up to 100 times more polluted than outdoor air? AirDoctor eliminates 99.99% of harmful contaminants, allergens, and mold spores. And as a cat-lady and mom to two high-energy boys, having cleaner air makes a huge difference. It’s like breathing in a little slice of zen.

Head to https://airdoctorpro.com/ and use promo code MAX to get up to $300 off today!

Your Challenge This Week: Find One Glimmer Here’s my challenge for you—find one moment to slow down this week. Maybe it’s a quiet cup of coffee before the kids wake up, a short walk with no destination, or just sitting still for a few minutes and noticing what’s around you.

Because the joy we’re looking for? It’s already there—we just have to slow down enough to see it.

Ready, Set, Simplify—bye!

Ever Open Your Closet and Feel Defeated? You’re Not Alone.

We’ve all been there. You catch a glimpse of that pair of jeans you swore you’d fit into again, or the untouched art supplies that were going to make you the next Picasso. But instead of feeling motivated, you feel a little stuck—maybe even guilty. If that sounds familiar, then, friend, this episode is for you.

Today, we’re talking about aspirational clutter—the stuff we hold onto because it represents who we hoped we’d become. The fancy cookware for the gourmet chef phase that never happened. The fitness gear collecting dust in the corner. The books you swore you’d read but haven’t cracked open. And the hard truth? Keeping these items doesn’t inspire us. It keeps us stuck.

So, in this episode, we’re unpacking:

  • Why aspirational clutter is so tough to let go of
  • The sneaky ways it keeps you from moving forward
  • How to release it without guilt (for real this time!)

And don’t worry—letting go isn’t about giving up on your dreams. It’s about making space for who you are right now. Because, friend, you are worthy and enough in this very moment—no extra supplies required.

Listener Challenge: Take Back Your Space! Find one item of aspirational clutter in your home.

Ask yourself:

👉 Does this fit my current season of life?

👉 Do I feel inspired or guilty when I see it?

If it no longer serves you, let it go. And if you do? I want to hear about it! Share your story.

  • My holistic approach to decluttering that works for real life (and real people).
  • Simple, sustainable strategies that prevent clutter from creeping back in.

Key Takeaways:

  • Clutter is emotional. It’s not about “just toss it”—it’s about uncovering why you’re holding on and finding peace with letting go.
  • Overwhelm is the enemy. Starting small (think: one drawer or one shelf) can create massive momentum.
  • Systems are the secret sauce. Without them, clutter will always creep back. The key? Building habits that fit your life, not someone else’s Instagram-perfect version of it.

The Approach That Changes Everything: Holistic Decluttering isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s about understanding the why behind your clutter, taking empowered action with small, intentional steps, and creating sustainable systems that work for you—your home, your values, your story.

Think of it like a recipe. Some people need more “root awareness,” while others thrive with an extra helping of “sustainable systems.” It’s not about perfection; it’s about progress—and creating a home that supports your life, not drains it.

CTA: If this approach feels like the breath of fresh air you’ve been craving, I’d love to help you go deeper. My Inner Circle coaching program is designed to guide you every step of the way, with personalized support to help you clear the clutter and build systems that last.

Let’s talk about the one place in your house that can either make your day a total breeze or an absolute disaster: the kitchen. If your kitchen looks more like a chaotic war zone than a functional workspace, it’s time for a little intervention. Today, Katie sits down with chef and dietitian Allison Schaaf to help you whip your kitchen into shape—think less clutter, more calm.

Allison drops some major wisdom on why less is actually more when it comes to kitchen tools, how to organize your space like a pro, and even how to get your kids to help out without them turning it into a circus. Plus, we’re diving into tips on how to survive holiday meal prep without losing your sanity (hint: it doesn’t involve making everything from scratch). So, whether you’re cooking for your fam or just trying to find a spatula in the abyss of your utensil drawer, this episode has you covered.

Key Takeaways:

  1. Smaller Kitchens > Bigger Kitchens: Wait, what? Yep. Allison explains why having a teeny tiny kitchen can actually make your life easier. No more walking 50 miles between your stove and fridge just to make dinner.
  2. Declutter Your Drawers, Save Your Sanity: Do you have three potato peelers but only use one? It’s time for a drawer detox. Learn how cutting down on kitchen gadgets can make cooking faster and (dare we say) more enjoyable.
  3. How to Set Up Your Kitchen Like a Pro: Want to stop running around like a headless chicken every time you cook? Allison shares the exact spots to store your essentials to make meal prep a breeze.
  4. Get Your Kids Involved—Without Losing Your Mind: Allison’s genius tips for getting your kids to help in the kitchen without turning it into a food fight. (Hint: It’s all about making things easy for them. And for you.)
  5. Holiday Meal Prep, Simplified: We all want to be Martha Stewart, but we also don’t want to spend six hours making a gingerbread house from scratch. Allison’s advice? Pick your favorite traditions and let the rest go. Your future self will thank you.

Episode Highlights:

  • [00:01] Katie kicks off the episode with a reality check: if your kitchen’s a mess, so is your life.
  • [00:29] Allison Schaaf joins the party, sharing her experience as a personal chef and why big kitchens can be totally inefficient.
  • [05:00] The most overlooked area in your kitchen that’s probably driving you nuts (and how to fix it).
  • [07:57] Let’s be real: how many spatulas do you actually need? Allison’s no-BS guide to streamlining your kitchen tools.
  • [10:45] How to make your kids help in the kitchen—and not in that “Here’s a mess for you to clean up later” kind of way.
  • [13:57] Holiday chaos, BE GONE. Allison’s no-fuss tips for staying organized and stress-free during holiday meal prep.

The holiday season is here – and with it, the stress that can sneak up when we’re trying to make everything magical. In this episode, I’m bringing back parenting expert Caley Kukla to chat all things holiday sanity. If you’re already feeling the overwhelm of balancing family traditions, schedules, and self-care that actually helps, this one’s for you. We’re diving into how to stay grounded, how to make holiday moments meaningful (not perfect), and why multitasking is a myth. Let’s keep the holidays simple, joyful, and – dare I say it – peaceful.

Here’s What We Get Into:

  • "One Thing" Practice 🎯: Caley shares her “one thing” approach to help us all slow down the holiday chaos and reduce that never-ending to-do list anxiety.
  • Real Self-Care, Not Just Bubble Baths 🛁: We go beyond the usual self-care tips and talk about meeting our core needs (think: food, rest, and yes, remembering to go to the bathroom!).
  • Tradition Tweaks 🎉: I share my own story of learning to let go of a “perfect” holiday tradition when it wasn’t clicking with my kids. Caley and I chat about ways to keep traditions meaningful and intentional, even if they look a little different.
  • Overcoming Overwhelm 💆‍♀️: We talk about why tuning into our own needs first can transform family gatherings, make us less reactive, and help us show up as the calm, connected parents we want to be.

Memorable Moments:

  • My Tree Decorating Reality Check: I share the story of my high hopes for a picture-perfect tree-decorating night…and how it actually went down when my kids weren’t exactly on board.
  • Caley’s “Gruffalo Crumble” Tradition: Caley shares her heartwarming story about turning a nostalgic family dish into a holiday staple with a kid-friendly twist.
  • “Rhythm Over Routine” for the Holidays: Caley’s advice on balancing holiday busyness with downtime so you and the family stay refreshed (instead of frazzled).

Your Holiday Takeaway: This episode is packed with insights you can use today – like creating a “stress-release list” to stay grounded, and taking just a few minutes to meet your own basic needs during a busy day. The holidays don’t have to be chaotic. Let’s make them exactly what we want them to be – simple, intentional, and full of moments that matter.

🍂 Fall is here, and while it might feel like the calm before the holiday storm, we both know what’s coming—endless to-do lists, gift-giving pressures, and the kind of clutter that sneaks up on you when you least expect it. But this year? We’re getting ahead of the chaos.

In today’s episode, I’m spilling the tea on how to mentally and physically prepare for the holidays, so you can avoid those pesky clutter traps that love to trip us up. We’ll talk mindset shifts, how to set boundaries with your holiday spending, and why you don’t need to say “yes” to every single holiday tradition (or sales pitch) that comes your way.

Trust me, you don’t have to buy into the holiday hype to make it magical. Instead, let’s focus on what truly matters to you this season and create a home—and a headspace—that feels light, calm, and clutter-free.

Key Takeaways:

  • Ditch the Holiday Perfection: Forget the pressure to have everything just right. The holidays should be about what you value, not about meeting someone else’s expectations.
  • Mental Clutter Is Real: Before the season ramps up, let’s clear out those unrealistic expectations and focus on what really makes the holidays special for you.
  • Be Intentional with Your Stuff: Businesses are experts at making you feel like you need more to have the perfect holiday. Spoiler alert: you don’t. Set boundaries on what you bring into your home.
  • Small Steps, Big Impact: Start with a little pre-holiday decluttering—just the hotspots like your kitchen or entryway. You’ll thank yourself later when things get busy.

Mentioned in This Episode:

  • Mindset Shift: It’s not about having the “perfect” holiday—it’s about having one that’s meaningful to you.
  • Practical Tips: Create a gift-giving plan, say no to unnecessary commitments, and do a mini-declutter now to make room for the good stuff.

Ever notice how trees just let go of their leaves every fall? No drama, no clinging—they just drop those suckers like they’re hot. Now, imagine if we could do the same with the clutter in our homes and lives. Today’s episode is all about that sweet, sweet release. We’re talking about letting go of the junk (and the baggage) that’s weighing you down and making space for what’s next.

You’ve already done the heavy lifting with the decluttering, but have you thought about what you’re still holding onto? And more importantly, why? We’ll dig into how holding on to things from past seasons of your life can keep you stuck and how letting go—just like those leaves—can open you up to a whole new world of possibilities.

I’m also spilling some tea on a little nature-inspired epiphany I had the other day, plus sharing a story about one of my amazing students who ditched her boxes of “memories” and made space for something way cooler. If you’re ready to stop clinging and start living, this episode is for you.

Key Takeaways:

  • Life Has Seasons—So Does Your Stuff: Just like trees drop their leaves, you need to drop the clutter that no longer serves you. Trust me, it’s holding you back.
  • Decluttering = Mental Detox: Forget the chore mindset. Think of decluttering as a brain cleanse. You’re making room for clarity, creativity, and, you know, life.
  • Take It One Baby Step at a Time: No need to go full KonMari in a weekend. Start small—one drawer, one shelf, one random pile of “important” papers.
  • Trust the Process: Letting go is hard, but trust me, it’s like a magic spell for inviting in the new, shiny things that your future self will thank you for.

Social media is filled with unboxings and endless hauls, and we’ve all been there—tempted to hit “add to cart” just to keep up. But here’s the truth: fast fashion is draining our wallets and our planet. In today’s episode, we’re doing the opposite of a haul. I’m walking you through how to break the cycle of over-consumption, declutter your wardrobe, and fall in love with what’s already hanging in your closet.

Because, spoiler alert: you don’t need new clothes to feel new.

We’re talking about:

  • Why most of your wardrobe ends up in a landfill (yikes).

  • Shopping your own closet like a pro and rediscovering pieces you forgot you owned.

You’ll leave this episode feeling lighter, more organized, and in control of your closet—no shopping spree required.

What’s Inside:

  1. Fast Fashion’s Dirty Secret Let’s get real for a second: up to 10% of global carbon emissions come from the fashion industry. So, yeah, those impulse buys have a way bigger impact than we think. In this episode, I share some jaw-dropping stats that’ll make you rethink those late-night shopping sprees (like the fact that making one cotton t-shirt uses 700 gallons of water—yikes).
  2. Declutter Like a Pro Here’s the good news: you don’t have to toss everything in your closet to feel organized. I’ll show you how to declutter strategically—without the overwhelm. Plus, I’ll share my favorite hack, the hanger trick, to figure out what you’re really wearing and what’s just taking up space.
  3. Shop Your Closet If you’ve ever said, “I have nothing to wear,” you’ll love this part. Once you’ve decluttered, it’s time to rediscover your wardrobe. I promise, you’ve got hidden gems in there just waiting to be loved again. You’ll feel like you’ve gone shopping—without spending a dime.
  4. Plan Outfits for the Week You meal plan, right? So why not do the same with your wardrobe? I share my trick for hanging up your outfits for the week (which seriously makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier), and you’ll find yourself excited about what you already own.
  5. How to Stop Buying So Much Want to break the shopping cycle? I give you my no-BS tips on how to curb those “gotta-have-it” impulses, including my favorite: the 48-hour rule. Trust me, it works.

It's about getting real with yourself, ditching the fear of “what if,” and taking baby steps toward a clutter-free life.

Hear from my coaching student, Kimberly, a full-time working mama of two, and now clutter crusher extraordinaire and her biggest takeaways from my 1-1 Coaching Program.

"The level of calm in my house is so much greater. I can do fun things with my family and not feel guilty I'm not doing chores. My stress levels are way better and honestly, this program has changed my life."

Kimberly shared how working directly with me was the reason she reached her goals and had the confidence to tackle all her scary spaces.

Do you find it difficult to let go of things, even when you know they're just cluttering up your life?

It's not just you. There's a psychological phenomenon at play here, known as the "endowment effect," which makes us overvalue our possessions simply because they're ours. This attachment can make decluttering feel like an uphill battle against our own minds.

In today's episode of The Maximized Minimalist, we delve into the depths of why letting go feels so hard. I'm Katy Wells, and I'll guide you through understanding the endowment effect and share practical, actionable tips to help you overcome it. From real estate reality TV shows to everyday decisions about junk drawers, we explore how this bias influences our perceptions and behaviors.

But it's not all psychology - this episode is packed with Katy-style strategies to help you detach, declutter, and move towards a simpler, more joy-filled life. Whether it's reassessing the true value of your possessions or learning to emotionally detach from them, we've got you covered.

If you're tired of feeling weighed down by things you don't need or use, this episode will offer you a fresh perspective and the tools you need to start letting go. Because decluttering isn't just about clearing out physical space; it's about making room for more happiness, peace, and intention in your life.

Tune in and take the first step towards a clutter-free existence. It's time to reclaim your space, your peace of mind, and your joy.

Do success stories make you feel like garbage?

Instead of feeling motivated and inspired by others, you become acutely aware of your own shortcomings. Your inner critic blasts you with thoughts like:

  • I should be further ahead by now.
  • Why haven't I accomplished that yet?
  • Maybe I should just give up.
  • I stink at this.

In today's episode of The Maximized Minimalist, we talk about this oh-so-relatable thought cycle and I'm sharing actionable steps to help get you back onto the the declutter bandwagon and achieving your dreams.

Oh and here's the deal, if seeing your peers succeed makes you jealous, sad or defeated...

You’re not a bad person.

This is a really common experience, especially for ambitious, achieving (and mildly competitive? 😆) folks like you and me.

As long as you're here - you're not behind and it's never too late to create a simpler, more peaceful life.

“For he who holds a hammer, the whole world is a nail.” – Abraham Maslow

Beliefs protect us. Beliefs live in our subconscious mind. Beliefs have positive intention.

But at what point do these core beliefs become limiting beliefs and interfere with our goal of a simpler, more peaceful home and life?

In this episode, we dive deep into how our relationship with 'stuff' mirrors our beliefs. Like beliefs, the things we accumulate start with good intentions – comfort, security, memories.

I share a personal story of how I struggled with letting go of certain items, fearing I'd be labeled a "heartless" daughter or a "bad" mom.

These weren't conscious thoughts; they were lurking in my subconscious. That's the tricky part we need to uncover.

This episode will help you identify and change the beliefs that are keeping you stuck in clutter.

A few months ago, I was talking with one of my new Inner Circle members.

She said to me, "Katy, I joined your program because I can't keep living this way," and even though I knew I could help her, it broke my heart to hear that. 🥹

After beginning to work together, I quickly I realized the root of why she wasn't seeing progress wasn't a lack of willpower, lack of consistency or lack of strategy...

NOPE.

It was because (unbeknownst to her) she had a psychological bias called the "sunk cost fallacy" .

Essentially, it's this idea that if you've already put resources (like time and money) into something, you should continue to invest in it (or KEEP it, in this case), even if you know it's not the best decision.

This bias is known as the "sunk cost" fallacy because the resources you've invested are already gone, just like a ship that has sunk.

And after taking my advice, which I also share with you too, in today's episode - her declutter progress skyrocketed. 🚀

I'm talking going from 0 to 100.

This is why I LOVE 1-1 coaching...

Dialing into the roots AND providing people with tangible solutions they need to FINALLY get the results they deserve - there's nothing sweeter.

If you, like her, are ready to dig deep, let go and create a home you love and that supports you, make sure to listen to today's episode and join me in my coaching program to get personalized support!

Cheering for you,

The spotlight effect describes how people tend to believe that others are paying more attention to them than they actually are—in other words, our tendency to always feel like we are “in the spotlight.” This can cause midjudgment, social anxiety, fear, shame and lots of negative emotions, preventing us from ever inviting people into our homes. You may not realize this depending on how long you've been a listener of the show, but my passion for helping other simplify wasn't born because I love to help people make their home look pretty and organized...

it's because decluttering was the catalyst that turned my mental health around and helped put an end to 24/7 stress, anxiety and depression.

While I don't think that clutter wasn't the cause of my mental health struggles, there certainly was a correlation which became more and more obvious the more stuff I got rid of.

Now, several years later having helped thousands of students and hearing story after story about how their stress levels have improved, they feel happier, hopeful, have a more positive outlook, less depression and so much more...

it only reinforces the idea that we are intricately connected to our environments...

and when we change our environments, our thoughts, emotions and even actions can change, as a result.

Today's episode, to kick-off the start of mental-health awareness month, I share some fascinating studies focused on just how clutter and mental health are connected.

I hope you find it inspiring, encouraging and just the words you needed to hear today.
