On this episode, Asia shares on Asia Days an update about her divorce trial and gives us some idea on how spousal maintenance works when a married couple divorces. She’s happy with her client that he finally closed that chapter of his life and can now start a new life. After that trial, Asia ended up going to Mexico. She shares her amazing time with her family during the vacation and tells a crazy experience on her flight back from Cancun. “People who aren’t married should not live together”, that's Steve's unpopular opinion. As per his experience and observation about relationships, Marriage forces couples to grow up and deal with each other. But if you aren’t married, it’s so easy to leave and go. According to him, people who aren’t yet married should not live together to keep their individuality and give each other space. He adds that arranged marriage statistically lasts the longest and works the best. It is summertime and Steve and Asia share how they stay active and share a little bit about their diets. In the Sports side, the two Attorneys talk about sports betting and how it can also get crazy especially when a high amount of money is involved. On this episode, Asia and Steve sit down with Ruben Gaona, co-founder of The Way Out, an anti-bias employment platform that helps ex-felons to set their goals and stay focus. Listen in as he shares about his background and his journey on how he got to where he is today. Ruben reached out to Ohiku Law Office to ask for assistance on filing his early termination of probation off parole. He’s an ex-military who was led to the wrong path and got involved in illegal activity. While being incarcerated, he met a guy that shifted his whole mindset. He realized that he needs to find a way not to only help himself but also to help other people who’s going through the same thing. He wants to help people understand that the mistakes we made does not define who we are. “You need to bet on yourself, because no one’s gonna bet on you”. He shifted his whole mindset, understood and took ownership of the mistakes he made in the past. “Before you read the book, get to know the author. Get to know the person and see the things they have done to better themselves”, is his opinion on how to lessen the stigma for people who served their time and paid their dues to the society. On Asia days, Asia and Steve talk about divorce trials, which are rare nowadays. The parties could not agree on many things and now the judge is going to decide. They discuss the pros and cons of Zoom Court hearings. Some want to continue Zoom hearings but some things should not be covered by Zoom. Is school these days a joke? Steve is not sure he can say in good conscience that school is a good investment right now, and he thinks that children are not going to be as competitive, or prepared for high school as the older generations. On the sports side, NBA games are going on, playoffs are here and it is getting exciting. Asia is interested in seeing play-in to the playoffs. Asia got her first shot of Moderna vaccination for covid, so they talk about people’s reactions to the vaccine in the Asia Days segment. In Steve’s unpopular opinion, Steve shares his thoughts on marriage, elaborating on the question of marriage as a contract. He asks himself, and others: Can marriage, from the legal standpoint, be reworked. On the War Stories from the Practice, Steve and Asia discuss cases that involve children. Steve talks about child support as a retaliatory measure against a parent they are in dispute with. Asia talks about a custody case. You do not want money to ruin your relationship. On this episode’s Steve’s unpopular opinion: “A person is smart but people are dumb” - Tommy Lee Jones. Steve talks about some documentaries he watched over the weekend and one thing that caught his attention was this series about the rise and fall of Tiger Woods. They talked about the scandals and issues the famous golf player is facing and the million dollar divorce settlement he is facing with his ex-wife. Which brought them to the topic of law of Divorce. Steve shares more about mediation and its pros and cons. Asia shares a success story about a couple weeks ago, she finalized a divorce case. She told us how she delivered the proceeds of the equity of her client’s home and her now ex-husband. Asia shares what she felt as she shares her news to her client who broke down and tears and gave her multiple hugs. Is marriage still necessary? On Asia Days, try not to bite your nails as Asia shares an awful experience to the nail salon. She got one of her acrylic nail broken up so she went to the nail shop to have it fixed. But she noticed her finger nail become very painful that she needed to take antibiotics to treat the infection. Very traumatic indeed! It’s true what they say that it’s all fun and games until someone breaks a nail. Steve talks about one of the best show on TV which is the Wired and told us something that stuck with him from the show. Do not deal with vicious people because no good deed goes unpunished, and that is Steve’s unpopular opinion. On the Sports side, Asia and Steve talks about basketball and their personal favorites.
