The primary narrative paving the pathway for the emergence and acceptance of psychedelic compounds into Western society is the narrative surrounding Psychedelic Therapy; psychedelics as a clinical treatment for mental illness.

The World Economic Forum named creativity the most important skill set for leaders of our time.
In this episode, weaving science with ceremony, Laura Dawn explores the broader question: Can psychedelics enhance our creative process?
There are many different definitions of creativity. In the broadest sense, we could say that creativity is the process of translating our ideas and inner visions into tangible reality.
Do you pay attention to how that process unfolds in your professional life? Could you articulate it? How do you come up with compelling ideas that have the potential to inspire change and then transmute them into reality? How do you evaluate them? How do you implement them?

As we enter this new era of artificial intelligence, we are being called to level up, and upgrade our human cognition, step into the full expression of our innate intelligence, unlock a deeper sense of wisdom, and leverage the aspects that make us uniquely human. We can do this by expanding our capacity to vision, to perceive possibility, imagine and dream the impossible, and then make those visions a reality.
And I believe that my work at the forefront of psychedelics and creative cognition is more relevant than ever before. I genuinely feel compelled, inspired, and a deep sense of responsibility to share this knowledge with you, so that we can meet our growth edge together.
Because, from my perspective, sacred plant medicines and psychedelics are arguably the most powerful bio-technologies available to us, that we can learn to work with to support this kind of mind expansion and neural upgrade and teach us the crucial skillsets and mindsets to successfully navigate these times of accelerating change.

Weaving Astrology & Medicine Work: Can the position and the movement of planets that are so far away play a significant role in the patterns that emerge and manifest in our lives? Patterns related to relationships, or what's unfolding in our careers, or patterns related to home and where we live? So many of us come to ceremony and show up at the altar to pray for healing and to lean into what we want to manifest in our lives. And if astrology points to destiny and karma, where does free will and the power of prayer and intention enter the equation? Can intention change our destiny? And can it be beneficial to understand your astrological chart and weave that awareness into personal work you do with psychedelics and sacred plant medicines? These are the questions that Laura Dawn explores with Vedic astrologer and medicine musician Tara Divina. Tara covers the 12 houses of vedic astrology and shares really interesting insights into what is unfolding astrologically right now, influencing patterns that are up for most of us, and what we might want to consider paying particular attention to. In this episode we talk about destiny versus prayer, the difference between Vedic astrology and Western astrology, grief as an essential part of the creative process, the important of letting go, creativity, and how the medicine supports us her on the path as a visionary entrepreneur. https://www.lauradawn.co/58 (Click here to access this episode's page complete with a full transcript, more about Tara Divina, and a complete list of resources)https://www.lauradawn.co/57 (.)

Imagine a world where generosity and giving to others is more valued than accumulating wealth and profit. Imagine a world where all life, and all of nature’s elements, including the water we drink and the air we breathe is equally valued. This is not only a deeply held prayer and a vision for the future, it is how indigenous cultures have lived in balance with the earth since the dawn of time, guided by Original Principles. According to Indigenous Otemi-Toltec Elder, Mindahi Bastisa, A world guided by Original Principles is not just possible – it is inevitable. In this episode, I invited Grandmother Jyoti and Mondahis Bastisa to come and share their wisdom and teachings surrounding the Original Principles they speak of. From being kidnapped in Mexico for his human rights work, to advising the largest organizations across the world and allying with the Union of Indigenous Yagé Medics of the Colombian Amazon and advocating for indigenous movements, Ricardo Vitale has had an extraordinary path. As a self-defined 'liberation anthropologist', based in Colombia. He earned a PhD from Cambridge University with a thesis about the Zapatista movement in Chiapas, Mexico. His expertise covers human rights, anthropology in armed conflict, social movements, indigenous politics, gender relations within social movements, sustainable development, resilience, climate change adaptations and indigenous practices of yagé medicine, spirituality, and resistance. He is a former adviser of a plethora of international humanitarian and development bodies such as: Oxfam America, the UNHCR, the Norwegian Refugee Council, ICG and GIZ, amongst others. Since 2016 Riccardo works as a full-time adviser for the Union of Indigenous Yagé Medics of the Colombian Amazon (UMIYAC). His tasks within UMIYAC range from fundraising to advocacy, to capacity strengthening, and non-extractive (“the-other-way-around”) anthropological research, aimed at “reinforcing indigenous communities, rather than taking from them”. In this episode, we expand the conversation around plant medicine conservation and include the context of the symbiotic relationship between people, sacred territories, land, community, culture, and that there are people that are facing extinction who also hold knowledge. And when those cultures go extinct. Loss of knowledge is embedded in that. Part of supporting plant medicine conservation is supporting biocultural diversity. Not because we want to ensure that we can replant what we need to consume to ensure our future needs are met. But because we actually want to live in a world where indigenous peoples can be living on the land that is their birthright. As the world comes to embrace the healing potential of sacred medicines, how do we ensure the original stewards of these medicines are uplifted, honored, and supported in this search for our collective healing? If we envision a future where indigenous peoples, their medicines, & traditional knowledge are honored, respected, and supported to thrive for generations to come then what specific actions can we take to do no harm, to truly be in right-relationship with these cultures? On today’s episode I speak with Miriam Volat and Cody Swift of The Riverstyx Foundation and the Indigenous Medicine Conservation Fund about it’s origin story, the Native American and other indigenous communities around the world it supports, plant medicine conservation & how to begin to be in right relationship with indigenous cultures. This is an extremely complex topic, and these two emphasize that they are still LEARNING, and LISTENING, and part of what you’ll hear and learn on this episode, is about the serious biocultural crisis happening across the planet for these traditional knowledge holding communities as they lose access to land, plant medicine, and even their own language. We answer questions like, what does “right relationship” mean? What does “do-no-harm” mean? What is a bioculture? What does “solidarity-based support” mean? We get into the details of how are funds utilized and organized, how are assessments conducted in these indigenous communities and how are their voices being amplified? In this episode we all expand our perception and outlook on what it means to support indigenous communities and the sacred medicines of the planet, and to remind us that we are all one family sharing the sacred responsibility and commitment to thrive on Earth together. https://lauradawn.co/free-music-playlists/ (4 Free Playlists For Psychedelic Journeys & Beyond) https://lauradawn.co/free-microdosing-course/ (Free 8 Day Microdosing Course) https://instagram.com/livefreelaurad (Follow @LiveFreeLauraD on Instagram)

Creativity and specifically creative thinking is being called the most important skillset to cultivate for leaders of our time. When I first started coming across statements like this, I started asking myself, what exactly is creative thinking, how do we define it and how do we learn to cultivate it? And does research show that psychedelics can help us to think more creatively? It turns out that there’s very little research that has been done exploring psychedelics and creativity. There have been a couple of published papers that have influenced my thinking around this topic, including Natasha Mason, Ph.D., who’s my guest on the show today, and the paper is titled Spontaneous and deliberate creative cognition during and after psilocybin exposure - which is one of the first double-blind, placebo-controlled studies directly exploring psychedelic and creative cognition. Natasha Mason Ph.D., is a post-doc at Maastricht University, Dept of Psychopharmacology. She has a background in (neuro)psychology and pharmacy. Utilizing multimodal study designs, her current research assesses drug-induced neuroadaptations and their influence on affect, behavior, and cognition. As you listen to our conversation I just want to encourage you to remember that you are creative by definition of being alive. And that being creative is your birthright. And a lot of people still have old beliefs, these are old myths about creativity, and right now we are being called to think bigger - because as Einstein said we can’t solve our problems at the same level of thinking that created them. How do we as leaders cultivate a deeply caring, resilient, just/equitable, and loving community? Perhaps the answer lies in “sacred activism”. I brought on sacred activist, Hanifa Nayo Washington who has been working at the forefront of mindfulness, place-making, and social justice to cultivate organizations, gatherings, spaces, and experiences rooted in the values of beloved community. As the Co-founder and Organizing Principle of One Village Healing, an online BIPOC centered healing, resilience, and psychedelic wellness space, and the Fireside Project, a nonprofit that is creating systemic change in the field of psychedelics in three key domains: safety, diversity, and equitable access, Hanifa knows how to lead courageously with her heart in collaboration with plant medicine, inner guidance, and her community. In this episode I ask Hanifa about how to embody sacred activism and spiritual resilience. You will learn how to truly be there for someone else through deep and reflective listening. We explore our relationship with power, how to utilize our energy in conscious co-creation, and how to work with rage in a healthy way. Hanifa is the Co-founder and Chief of Strategy at Through their Psychedelic Peer Support Line, Fireside Project has created a nationwide safety net that has substantially decreased 911 calls and hospitalizations while democratizing access to free high-quality care. The line has supported thousands of callers since launching in April of 2021. Key TakeawaysUnderstanding our relationship to power is vital in creating a just and equitable society. Gratitude is a great place to start becoming aware of our relationship with power. Then where is the pain? We have to start with self inquiry. Being with another, in their full expression is real peer-support and is a deep practice of ally-ship, without trying to fix or heal them, nor move them away from their present experience.

How do we as leaders manage the overwhelming stress, anxiety, and burnout that is commonly associated with performing at a high level, starting and running organizations, and doing the deep spiritual work that is required of us? Breathwork is one of the most powerful ways we can take control of our own state and set ourselves up for success. On today’s episode I sit down with Robbie Bent, the Co-Founder of Othership. Othership is an on-demand Breathwork platform that helps you manage the daily ups and downs in life through the power of your own breath. Breathwork is the #1 tool for leaders to cope with the challenges that we face. Tune into the episode and follow along as Robbie guides me through several valuable breathing exercises, breaks down what exactly is going on in our body when we do breathwork, and shares his journey founding and leading multiple companies. Key TakeawaysThe easiest and most simple habit you can add to your day is under 5 minutes of breathwork, which can positively change your state of being. https://othership.onelink.me/loJo/LauraDawn (Othership) is the app I use every day as part of my self-care routine. Breathwork is so effective because it controls our autonomic nervous system, and gives us the ability to self-regulate.

How can we learn to effectively navigate our thoughts, emotions, and the difficult circumstances that we encounter in life so we can take action that is in alignment with what we value and what we care about? Combining ancient mindfulness practices and philosophies, and the most modern psychological research, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) provides a model for growth, wellness, and deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us. My guest today Dr. Rosalind Watts is a clinical psychologist and the founder of ACER Integration, that goes beyond simply focusing on psychedelic integration, but provides an insightful model for understanding humanity. As the former clinical lead on the Psilocybin for Depression trial at Imperial College London, Dr. Watts led a clinical team that facilitated over a hundred psilocybin treatment sessions. Having recognized that safe and effective use of psychedelics requires substantial integration support, Rosalind co-founded the UK's first psychedelic integration group, and is now launching a global online integration community, ‘Accept, Connect, Embody, Restore’ (ACER) where members will follow a 12-month process together, in community. Most of us want to see positive change take root in our lives, but as we all know, change is oftentimes easier said than done. Many people come to psychedelics because they want support establishing lasting change, whether it’s to heal a relationship, overcome an addiction, or implement healthier habits. Psychedelic neuroscience is showing us that these mind-altering substances can be a powerful force for change in our lives. Although the wisdom of our plant teachers can offer us clarity and illuminate the path before our feet, they cannot make us walk the path. They might inspire us to show up in a new way, but they can’t make us take action. How can we learn to leverage our psychedelic experiences to catalyze meaningful change? When it comes to changing habitual patterns, especially behavioral patterns, we’re oftentimes focusing our attention on trying to implement change in the wrong way. I've packed this episode full of research-backed neuroscience, wisdom teachings, and my personal experience over the last 5 years teaching plant medicine integration. You’ll learn a seldom-talked-about shortcut to implementing meaningful change through an 8-step method you can use during your plant medicine integration to more deeply align with and step into the life you truly want to be living. This episode is a must for ANYONE holding space and facilitating the psychedelic journey for others. As leaders of this community, we need to learn how to not cause any kind of harm to those we are entrusted to heal, this is why training and being trauma informed is so crucial for anyone holding space. In this episode Laura Dawn drops in with somatic psychotherapist Laura Mae Northrup about the importance of understanding the power dynamic, consent, what we need to be aware of when it comes to sexual harm, and how not to cause it. Tragically, survivors of sexual trauma are more likely to be sexually abused by the practitioners they go to for healing. Tune in and you’ll get practical guidance you can apply immediately, powerful resources to become more trauma-informed, a more informed perspective about the importance of psychedelic preparation, and get to the heart of understanding trauma so that we can co-create a safer future for everyone. Key takeaways: Absolutely everyone involved in facilitating a container for another’s psychedelic journey should become trauma informed and take training. As a community we MUST have difficult conversations with each other, and hold each other accountable for upholding the safety of all. Power dynamics exist that we may not be aware of, and we have to be diligent in getting feedback from our peers if we are unclear about crossing a line. Which training is best for people just entering into psychedelic facilitation. How healing practitioners can unconsciously cross lines. Sexual Abuse in Patient/Clinician relationships.

In 2015, Tom Eckart and his late wife Sheri Eckert had a vision – a vision that very few people thought was possible. They wanted to make access to psilocybin legal in the State of Oregon, which led them to create and lead the measure 109 initiative. Five years later on November 3, 2020, Ballot Measure 109 was passed with support from 1.233 million Oregonians, or 55.68% of the vote. In January 2023, “psilocybin service providers” will be legally allowed to serve psilocybin, as long as they have adequate training. We are less than one year away from the rollout and implementation of Measure 109 which of course opens up a lot of questions. What does psychedelic facilitations training look like? What is the core curriculum? Who’s offering this training? How much do these psychedelic facilitation trainings cost? How long will they be? Do you have to be a therapist or medical practitioner to get licensed? Are there apprenticeship models?
In this episode featuring both Tom Eckart and Alissa Bazinet, a clinical psychologist who serves on the training subcommittee of the Oregon psilocybin advisory board, we dive into all of these questions about the specifics of Measure 109 and what it means for psychedelic practitioners. In the last part of the conversation, we get more personal as we explore the essence of visionary leadership and what it takes to not only dream the impossible, make it a reality. What we are witnessing unfold in the psychedelic movement is truly unprecedented. We are reaching a tipping point where psychedelic medicines are rapidly entering mainstream society. But is this really a good thing? And how do we make sense of the sacramental and sacred use of psychedelics within the cultural context of late-stage capitalism? In this episode, Laura Dawn drops in with best selling author of Stealing Fire and Recapture the Rapture, Jamie Wheal, who holds strong opinions about the dark underbelly of the psychedelic movement. Jamie shares the pitfalls we need to be aware of and how this psychedelic party isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Hi Friends, Laura Dawn here. In this introduction to season two, I share some thoughts about the direction of this season, including some of the core themes that I’ll be exploring through conversations with some truly phenomenal human beings, and brilliant thought leaders, in the psychedelic space and beyond. In this bonus episode, I dive into a pretty transparent share about what I've been witnessing in the psychedelic movement and an invitation for all of us to step up our game and do better. What we are witnessing right now in the psychedelic space is truly unprecedented, and it's not necessarily all a "good" thing. There are a lot of different factors and forces at play that complicate things. We are all being forced to live our lives and operate within old paradigms and structures that were built for a different era. We are living in late-stage capitalism and these very powerful compounds are emerging in a western medicalized culture that doesn’t actually have a lot of recent historical context for sacramental use of hallucinogens. Meanwhile, everyone's got a super strong opinion about how this movement "should" go down. This season we'll be exploring a variety of very nuanced, tricky, and challenging topics that explores the complexity of this movement with a deeper inquiry as to how we can contribute to the movement in the best way possible, starting with the invitation to lean into these conversations by listening with an open heart and an open mind. With the launch of season two, we also launched an entirely new website: www.lauradawn.co Thank you for continuing to tune in and support this show. It’s when we learn to cultivate a relationship with our death and make peace with the fact that one day our lives will come to pass that we can learn to lean into living life more fully and more wholeheartedly. Founder of Entheowheel, Dream Mullick is a death coach. She leads people through what she calls the ceremony of living and dying, guiding you through the portal of death into rebirth, allowing your awareness of death to become a powerful catalyst for living life more joyfully right now. In this conversation, we explore the intersection of psychedelics, death, and eastern philosophy. We explore the paradox of what it means to be human and how to hold space for opening to feeling the full spectrum of what life has to offer us, from joy and inspiration to grief, pain, and suffering, while learning how to hold our center through it all. We talk about creativity and what it takes to anchor big visions, and the necessity of slowing down and finding stillness, opening the channel to receive guidance that comes from a higher place, so we can create from that space. I wanted to invite Rick onto the show so I can listen to him share his life’s story and what led him to where he is now – and what a remarkable story it is. Rick doesn’t only share the past. The second half of the conversation looks at the future of psychedelic medicine, where Rick shares some thought-provoking insights, especially his vision of the movement in 20 years from now and what he thinks the next wave of psychedelic research will be. He also shares some really good advice for people who want to contribute to the psychedelic movement reminding us that psychedelic leadership can take many forms. Langston Kahn is a Shamanic healer that supports people through what’s called the Deep Liberation Process, a body-based approach that allows us to radically transform the range of fear-based stories we each hold in ourselves: from traumatic experiences, internalized oppression, and habitual emotional patterns rooted in old beliefs that hold us back from healing, transforming, and freeing our authenticity and unique genius. Bridging the shamanic wisdom of ancient spirituality with the needs and demands of modern-day life, Kahn offers concrete skills to cultivate deep grounding, skillful boundaries, and a healthy energy body; methods for authentic shadow work and healing our triggers; and tools for effectively tending personal and collective well-being in community. Dr. Dennis Mckenna calls psychedelics “tools for learning how to think.” In this episode, Laura Dawn speaks with Dennis Mckenna about how psychedelics can help us think more creatively. As Chase Jarvis says: “Our species and our planet face a new set of challenges that only creativity can solve.” We are living through a time of rapid change where creative thinking and creative problem solving are now being called the most important skillsets for the 21st century. Many of us weren’t taught creative thinking skills in school and need to find new ways to tap into our creative potential. As it turns out, psychedelics might be able to offer us the kind of help and support we need to adapt to these times of increasing uncertainty and unprecedented challenges. As Dennis explains in this episode: “psychedelics allow you to see connections that you usually don’t see. Then you have an opportunity to come up with not only funny ideas, but great ideas.” Dennis McKenna has a Master's in Botany and a PhD in Botanical Sciences and has been conducting research in ethnopharmacology for over 40 years. TRUST 2.0 When the Going Gets Tough. There is a grand restructuring unfolding on the planet right now. This is a time where we are being called to face our personal truth. When we choose to step into deeper alignment with this truth, whatever that may be, it often requires facing big changes as we let go of who we thought we were and step forward into who we are choosing to be. Facing these changes can require an enormous amount of letting go and often bring with them a lot of upheaval. As many of us find ourselves on the precipice peering into the great unknown, we need to learn how to trust the deeper levels of restructuring that are unfolding for us both individually and collectively. And that's what this episode is all about; learning to trust in the great unknown. I share my perspective on what it means to move from trust 1.0 to trust 2.0 and how this impacts the way we live and the way we lead. Follow Laura Dawn on Instagram. These are trying times. According to the Kogi prophecy, we are collectively moving through 13 years they call the great cleanse. The Kogi’s say that the great ending will fall into the beginning in 2026. In this episode renowned spiritual teacher and vision keeper, Grandmother Jyoti shares remarkable stories that help us understand the wisdom within these prophecies and the power of walking in prayer and points to the necessity of stepping into alignment with our authenticity as this is a time of reckoning with our personal truth. Jyoti was one of the founders of https://www.centerforsacredstudies.org (the Center for Sacred Studies) - and was also the founding member and convener of the Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. Jyoti considers herself to be a vision keeper and a seed keeper, which she talks more about. And she shares that after the council of 13 grandmothers took on a life of its own, she received a new vision, a new seed that has led her to launching a project called the Fountain and its mission is to restore an economic model that is based on reciprocity and collaboration guided by Nature and the Sacred. What does it take to be a psychedelic integration coach? What core competencies do transformational coaches need to cultivate and what kind of training do people need to support people with the integration of their psychedelic experiences? Deanne Adamson is the founder and president of Being True To You, an online transformational coaching organization that has certified over 800 holistic addiction recovery and psychedelic integration coaches since 2010. Deanne's ‘Transformational Recovery’ model extends support across one's greater journey of healing and growth, helping people integrate psychedelic experiences to ensure lasting results. In this episode, Deanne shares her journey and how she found herself birthing her company Being True to You. She talks about the nature of addiction and how it’s really not what people think. We also talk about the importance of cultivating your own guiding principles, core values, moral compass, and core competencies for integration coaches, as well as what people should know before moving into this space, We also touched on her take on some of the more controversial topics, and we also touch on the bizarre reality of censorship. https://bu325.isrefer.com/go/CTP/livefreelaurad/ (Being True To You)

I don't know why it's been taken down, but I do know censorship is on the rise. One of my last posts just happened to be about how they've now banned #microdosing hashtag. (Which I think is ridiculous.) Please follow these instructions to help me get my instagram account back: On your personal IG account go to settings Then help report a problem Then something isn't working Then write @livefreelaurad account got taken down and this is a mistake.
I would so appreciate your help with this! Live Free, Laura D
Holding a vision for something that doesn’t yet exist and taking inspired action to transmute that inner vision into reality is true creative leadership. Joshua White had an idea to launch the first-ever Psychedelic Peer Support Phone Line in the US and dedicated himself to making that vision a reality. He is now the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Fireside Project, which operates the first-ever national peer support line specifically aimed at helping people navigate psychedelic experiences. Fireside has now been featured in major publications like the Rolling Stones Magazine, Forbes, and has prominent people like Michael Pollen tweeting about his support for the project. Joshua deeply believes in the power of peer support and in the role of support lines as key components of an equitable community mental health ecosystem. In this candid conversation, Joshua shares what it takes as a leader to launch an unprecedented project and the key importance of holding a “bigger than you” vision to get you through the tougher times. https://firesideproject.org/ (Fireside Project ) https://firesideproject.org/app (Download Fireside Project app) Dial 62-Fireside for psychedelic peer support PsychedelicLeadership Resources https://www.lauradawn.co/33 (Click here to access the full episode transcript and list of resources) http://www.meetdelic.com/ (Use code "DAWNNAUT" for a discount to MEET DELIC conference ) https://livefreelaurad.com/music-playlists (4 Music Playlists for Psychedelic Journey’s & Beyond) https://www.livefreelaurad.com/free-microdosing-course (Free 8-Day Microdosing Course)

In this conversation, I drop in with the lead singer of Satsang Drew McManus to get to know the man behind the music. We talk about the role that psychedelics and plant medicines have played in Drew’s life. We talk about creativity, inspiration, and what it means to dedicate ourselves to our purpose with discipline and devotion yet levity, lightheartedness, and humor. Drew shares his upbringing in an abusive house and the journey of re-writing the narrative of trauma, and we talk about how plant medicines can help us reframe these deeply challenging experiences from the narrative that they are happening to us into a new narrative that they happen for us. As the psychedelic movement rapidly bolts forward, we might consider looking to the elders for guidance to maintain respect, reciprocity and bridge understanding of the traditions connected to these plant medicines into Western culture. This episode was from a panel of wisdom keepers, recorded in front of a live Clubhouse audience featuring Otomi-Toltec wisdom keeper Mindahi Bastida, Loretta Afraid of Bear Cook of Oglala Sioux Nation, and Joyti Ma who is founder of the Fountain and convener of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers. What are some of the Western psychedelic facilitator training programs missing? How do we stay in right relationship? How do we hold the balance between ancient wisdom and what’s needed right now for a Western culture? What does it mean to follow the protocols of the original peoples? Jyoti Ma calls these challenging questions “Points of Study” that require looking at their nuance and complexity from many different perspectives. Alongside Laura Dawn, host of the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast, this episode was in collaboration with Tricia Eastman from Ancestral Heart, and Sophia Rohklin, from the Amazon Emergency Fund moderating the conversation as bridges for the psychedelic community to facilitate a meaningful exchange. As we continue to witness the interest in psychedelics rapidly escalating, more and more people are feeling the call to step into leadership roles in the psychedelic space. But leadership can mean many different things and can take many different forms. In this episode of the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast, Natasja Pelgrom (from the Awaken Podcast) interviews Laura Dawn about Visionary Leadership, what it means to cultivate a practice with sacred plant medicines and be open to receive their transmission, and then what it takes to step out and lead from this heart-centered wisdom. We explore the nuanced balance of how we need to give ourselves permission to lead but how and why we need to hold the process of stepping out with our offerings with great responsibility, rooted in experience. Natasja askes Laura Dawn’s perspective on how we can set ourselves up for success by cultivating peer-to-peer support groups as well as cultivating relationships with elders whom we respect and can trust to offer us clear, lucid feedback and reflections to help steer us in a good direction. This is also most beneficial when it’s built on the foundation of personal practices. Because in the end, we can only take people as far as we’ve gone ourselves. Think about the last time you faced a major life challenge. What did you do to effectively navigate through that adversity? This was the question at the forefront of the research that Dr. Taryn Marie conducted on resilience that led her to discover the five practices of resilient people. These are the real-time actions resilient people take to effectively face adversity. Dr. Taryn Marie is a foremost international expert on resilience, in both leadership and life. She is the former Head of Executive Leadership Development at Nike, Global Leadership Development at Cigna, and founded Resilience Leadership, where she serves as the Chief Resilience Officer (CRO), leveraging over a decade of research on resilience, that gave birth to the empirically-based framework that became the foundation for her book "Flourish or Fold: The 5 Practices of Particularly Resilient People." In this conversation, Taryn offers her unique definition of resilience, we cover the five practices, and we talk about neuroplasticity. Taryn also weaves in a central theme of exploring the nuance of paradoxes like the paradox of control and surrender, or universality and uniqueness. Mahina Nani was born into a bloodline of Ancient Hawaiian Healers that is centuries old and carries the wisdom teachings of Ho’o’ponopono. In this episode of the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast, Mahani shares the meaning of H’o’ponopono. By learning to take full responsibility for our actions and opening to the power of forgiveness, we can step into “right relationship” with ourselves and those around us. When we have the courage to do this, we can then put an end to intergenerational trauma and experience greater harmonious alignment in our lives. This was also a special episode in honor of Mothers Day. My own mother, Lucy joined us for this conversation and after Mahina opens up a ceremonial container and channels a powerful prayer, my mother and I shed many tears of forgiveness as we share a real-time practice of Ho’o’ponopono. In this episode, Laura Dawn features her conversation with both Dr. Jim Fadiman, author of an all-time classichttps://amzn.to/2Qj9s5Q ( The Psychedelic Explorer’s Guide) alongside Jordan Gruber, who both co-authored a new book calledhttps://amzn.to/3v6l0rL ( Your Symphony of Selves: Discover More Of Who You Are). When you think about your Self, do you consider yourself to be one “Unified Self? Or is it possible that you have multiple selves? And if you did consider yourself to have more than one Self, would that be a sign of pathology or health? Adopting this notion that we have more than one Self is what Jim Fadima and Jordan Gruber call “healthy multiplicity”. This concept directly sits at odds with the prevailing notion that we only have one unified self, in the fields of health care and psychology. Jordan and Jim argue that embracing our multiplicity of Selves is actually a sign of health and wellbeing, not a sign of pathology. In this episode, we dive into what they call the “healthy selves model” and explore questions like: how many Selves do we really have? Are all of our Selves an expression of ego? Can one of our Selves be “our higher self? What if we don’t like one of our Selves that seems to wreak havoc on our lives, should we give that self a back seat amongst our entourage of selves? Since 2008 East Forest has been the leader of underground ‘sound meditation’ ceremonies around the world. His primary mission is to create sonic architecture for others to explore their inner space. In this episode, East Forest shares his journey with psychedelics and how that started him on the spiritual path, and how he didn’t find his own voice until discovering psilocybin, which is when his path as a musician started to deepen and open up and started focusing on creating music specifically for psychedelic journey’s. He talks about the role that music plays in ceremony and in our healing process, and how music is ultimately extending an invitation for us to go within, pointing towards the mystery, and reminding us of our inner North Star. He shares about the time he spent with Ram Dass, his interesting perspective on the positive benefits of this polarized time of division, a powerful suggestion for plant medicine integration, and his thoughts about the psychedelic movement towards medicalization. http://eastforest.org/ (Eastforest.org) https://www.patreon.com/eastforest (Join the “East Forest Council” Patreon offering. ) https://open.spotify.com/show/7kjGq98HvnQG5La4EVsWGL?si=efpveYj5SeCeeA8AFf8hKg (Tune into 10 Laws with East Forest Podcast)

If you want to uplevel your life, you need to uplevel your mind and your mindset. As Einstein says, we can’t solve our problems at the same level of thinking that created them. And as we face a time of crisis, we are being called to radically uplevel the way we think. In this solo episode, Laura Dawn explores how you can cultivate mindsets that are critically valuable for leading through this time of change and expanding the boundaries of what you believe is possible. Laura Dawn shares the narrative of how humanity is in the gap between two worlds and how we can learn to foster resilience through cultivating mindsets like curiosity to catalyze awakening, creative thinking, and heart-centered leadership. Mindsets like curiosity allow us to perceive possibility where we previously saw limitations, and build bridges between the riffs that keep us divided. Laura Dawn describes these mindsets within a powerful framework she’s developed called the path of the Creative Visionary Bodhisattva that can act like a companion guide for those on the plant medicine path. In this episode, Laura Dawn shares powerful questions that you can draw upon to help you cultivate a curiosity mindset, not just for your benefit, but for the healing of humanity. We discuss: Charles' recent psychedelic experiences of ego-dissolution How psychedelics have influenced him as a thought leader Wise advice for the psychedelic leaders of our time The process of reintegration back into the matrix and old paradigm after psychedelic experiences. How this psychedelic renaissance is different than the 60’s The role psychedelics are playing to help us move from the narrative of separation towards interbeing The foundational importance of understanding our psychedelic experiences through the lens of relationship and connection. Charles’ thoughts on letting go, truth, trust and courage. The subtleties of the “war on self.” Reframing activism by moving away from the narrative of trying to “make things happen” versus connecting to the larger universal intelligence and listening, and then allowing things to happen. How plant medicines are helping us move through this time of upheaval and transition? Conceptual frameworks (like eastern philosophy or quantum physics) he draws upon as helpful psychedelic roadmaps

After struggling with addiction, Carlos Tanner heeded the call to sit with grandmother ayahuasca in Peru, knowing this would be his path of healing. Shortly after that, he was invited to move into a shaman's home and apprenticed with him for 4 years. This eventually led him to start the Ayahuasca Foundation in 2009, offering retreats and educational training programs within the Shipibo lineage. In this conversation, we explore some nuanced and complex topics, including: The misunderstanding we have around the concept of “tradition” Understanding trauma from a shamanic perspective How ceremony acts as a catalyst for enhancing consciousness Do these sacred plant medicines discriminate between skin color and language spoken? The placebo effect and the role that consciousness plays in the healing process How consciousness profoundly influences our experience of reality The understanding of trauma from a shamanic perspective How we have forgotten that we are inherently a part of nature The ayahuasca foundations 4 and 8-week programs.

The passing of Measure 109 in Oregon was a pivotal moment for the psychedelic movement. By 2023, qualified practitioners will be able to legally administer psilocybin for therapeutic purposes. In this episode, Laura Dawn speaks with psychedelic pioneer Francoise Bourzat who is part of designing the curriculum to train practitioners to safely and legally support their clients’ healing process through the intentional consumption of sacred mushrooms. Francoise Bourzat discusses: Where they are at in the process of creating the curriculum; The hurdles they have to overcome; Government support and accessibility; The potential drawbacks of psychedelic legalization; Who can access this training for psychedelic practitioners, and how long it will last; The importance of reciprocity and what that really means; Wisdom from her Mazatec teachers from Oaxaca, Mexico; Her perspective on cultural appropriation, and how it’s taken often out of context; Her hopes to build more resources for the Mazatec people; The overlap and intersection between indigenous wisdom and modern psychology and how they could be used together as a more complete framework. We end the conversation with wise advice she offers psychedelic leaders stepping into the space.

The narrative around creativity is drastically changing. Creative thinking is now being called the #1 most important skill set that you can learn to cultivate for thriving in these uncertain times. In this episode, Laura Dawn speaks with Dr. Balder Onarheim who has a Ph.D. in the neuroscience of creativity and is the founder of PlatoScience (the developer of a neurostimulation head device called Plato Work) about the importance of training your mind to think more creatively. We explore how you can learn to draw upon a variety of tools that all share similar neurological underpinnings that specifically support and enhance neuroplasticity, like cognitive practices that you can learn, with technological tools like neurostimulation, and even biotechnologies like psychedelics (and microdosing), all to help you learn more quickly, think more creatively, and concentrate more effectively. The “creativity battle”: making it more known that creativity is a cognitive skill that everyone needs. Creativity is at the core of humanity, not just some funny “arts” topic. When you understand the underlying neural mechanisms that both prevent and support creative thinking, you improve your ability to train your brain to think more creatively. Balder says “If you don’t understand it, then you can’t improve it.” Tips for cultivating enhancing creative problem-solving in groups. Convergent versus divergent thinking Cognitive tools and tiny interventions you can do all the time, to make your brain less rigid and more flexible. Sleep as a method for enhancing creative thinking Balder’s thoughts on the Default Mode Network, psychedelic research, and creativity The history behind neurostimulation, how it’s over 3000 years old, and how the Egyptians used torpedo fish as electroshock therapy to treat migraines.

Laura Dawn speaks with co-founders of the Sabina Project Charlotte James and Undrea Wright are intentionally exploring sacred earth medicines and the power of ceremony as a profound catalyst for the liberation of oppressed people, helping to dismantle systems of oppression that become internalized. They are doing this by educating about harm reduction and creating safe spaces for people in the BIPOC (BIPOC = Black Indigenous and People of Color) community to come together to integrate and openly share their plant medicines experiences. In this candid conversation about race, we talk about cancel culture, spiritual bypassing, how we can become more aware of our inherent biases. They share their perspective on “recreational” medicine use, the importance of connecting to the shamanic practices from our own ancestral lineages. During this time of significant change, we can learn to stay centered and resilient amidst the whirlwind of upheaval by asking ourselves what we choose to focus our awareness on and what we genuinely care about. These times are asking of us to turn our attention inwards, away from who’s right and wrong, fueling division and polarity, and train our minds and hearts to stay open and non-reactive to what’s unfolding around us. Want to understand what’s happening in the brain when under the influence of psychedelics? The default mode network (DMN) is receiving a lot of attention these days, but what do we really know about what the science is saying in terms of how psychedelics influence the DMN, and how can we use that information to catalyze change in our lives? In this conversation, Psychedelic Neuroscientist Manesh Girn breaks down the neuroscience of psychedelic states and distinguishes fact from fiction. In this conversation Manesh Girn explores: How the DMN sits at the top of all 7 brain networks and creates models of reality that we hold onto that can keep us stuck within limiting narratives and belief systems. How we "see what we believe" and continue to perpetuate limiting beliefs, from the perspective of the predictive coding model of the brain. How psychedelics support neuroplasticity. The importance of daily practice to allow altered states to transmute into altered traits. The difference between cognitive flexibility and psychological flexibility. How psychedelics can support creative thinking, and the underlying mechanisms for which they do that. The overlap in the research between meditation and psychedelics. How psychedelics influence the shift in alpha brainwaves and how this likely influences the DMN. His perspective on how psychedelics can be a powerful tool for helping to steer humanity’s ship in a better direction. How his psychedelic research has directly impacted his life and perception of reality.
Manesh Girn BiographyManesh Girn is a Neuroscience PhD student at McGill University and has been lead or co-author on over a dozen scientific publications and book chapters on topics including psychedelics, meditation, daydreaming, and brain networks. As we know, this is a time of great change. So how do we learn to navigate through major times of transition and learn to surf the waves of rapid change with more grace, ease, courage, and resilience? As we close the chapter on 2020, the year of global upheaval, the year the world as we knew it forever changed, how can we find the wisdom to transmute crisis into the catalyst for transformation, the catalyst for our awakening, so we can pass through the portal into 2021, or whatever portal of transition we happen to be moving through so we can be stronger, wiser and more heart-centered leaders on the other side? In this solo episode I am going to explore the initiation that many of us are facing right now, the initiation of bowing at the altar of impermanence, and how if we’re willing to make peace with this often very challenging place, it can catalyze a process of metamorphosis in our lives allowing us to be stronger on the other side. In this Episode: Wisdom tools you can learn to draw upon for strength to navigate times of change. The importance of the narratives we tell ourselves about this time of change. Exploring the metaphor of metamorphosis and the cocoon. Exploring the intersection between Eastern philosophy, the psychedelic experience, and quantum physics. Exploring the wisdom teachings of impermanence and groundlessness. The benefit of relating to times of transitions as rights of passage or initiations. Trying to make sense out of these strange times? Psychedelic pioneer and enthnopharmacologist Dennis McKenna calls this global planetary transition a time of metamorphosis, and how COVID, climate change, psychedelics, and sacred plant medicines are “messengers from Gaia” telling us to wake up. He calls plant medicines the neurotransmitters of the Gaian mind. In this conversation, Dennis McKenna explores how the growing interest in psychedelics and sacred plant medicines in Western mainstream culture is a highly complex, and double edge sword with many pros and cons. We explore our symbiotic relationship with plants, how ayahuasca acts as a natural antidepressant, how psychedelics may allow us to perceive the quantum realm of reality, the complex issues of cultural appropriation, God and religion, and more. In this conversation with Sandra Ingerman, we dive into the path of shamanism and a look at the origins of shamanic wisdom, and the implications of the explosion of interest in shamanic practices within the context of our modern day world. We talk about what makes a shaman a shaman, what it means to be a gardener of energy, and the difference between a shaman and a shamanic practitioner. We discuss the importance our words, the emphasis on fine tuning our intuition and the power of ceremony for cultivating a heightened sense of concentration and focus, and how social media is causing polarity, division and distracting us from centered presence. We also talk about the shamanic path in terms of tuning into other dimensions of reality and shamanic practices we can cultivate to live our best lives. https://www.lauradawn.co/2 (Click here to access the full episode transcript and list of resources)
In episode #1 of The Psychedelic Leadership Podcast, I speak with Jonathan Glazer, co-founder of the Thank You Plant Medicine Campaign. Jonathan shares what the Thank You Plant Medicine Campaign has accomplished so far: They created a global "coming out day" event where thousands of people came out of the psychedelic closet and shared their transformational stories with psychedelics and sacred plant medicines. They have partnered with and connected over 120 psychedelic organizations from around the world. They are building an online Thank You Plant Medicine Community for people to connect, ask questions, share resources and support each other on the path. Jonathan shares exciting news about what's to come, what they are working on next, and their visions for the future.
In this episode, Jonathan shares transparently about what he's learned about leadership as they've built a core team and have coordinated efforts from thousands of volunteers from around the world to support this campaign. He shares his viewpoints on navigating challenging situations, especially when he needs to address people in the community who have received feedback of malpractice or inappropriate behavior in the psychedelic space. He also touches on his thoughts around cultural appropriation. We also talk about Jonathan's meditation practice and his multi-faceted and open-minded approach to working with psychedelics, and his perspective on how psychedelics can be a catalyst for change in many domains of life. Hey there, and welcome to this short introduction for the Psychedelic Leadership podcast, where I’m going to give you an overview in terms of what to expect from this podcast and the episodes to come. Ok, so there are 3 different areas this Psychedelic Leadership Podcast explores. First, I’m having conversations with a diverse range of leaders in the psychedelic space discussing all topics related to how we can bring heart-centered leadership and integrity to effectively hold space for the integration of psychedelics and sacred plant medicines into mainstream culture. And how we can do that in a way that brings with it the most benefits to planetary healing and causes the least amount of harm. The second aspect of this podcast takes a more holistic approach by going beyond the psychedelic space and features conversations with thought leaders and experts from a wide range of disciplines, that offer us tools to draw upon to become more effective leaders. And then the third component looks at how can we draw upon the wisdom we receive from psychedelics and sacred plant medicines as well as the science we are discovering from psychedelic research to shape ourselves into visionary leaders who can influence real change no matter what domain we find ourselves in.
My name is Laura Dawn and this is the Psychedelic Leadership Podcast, because what the world needs is a new kind of leader. This podcast features a series of mind-enhancing conversations with thought leaders and the wisdom keepers of our time both in the psychedelic space and beyond. Weaving wisdom with science, we’re exploring the intersection between psychedelics and sacred plant medicines, with neuroscience and consciousness, creativity and resilience, business and entrepreneurship, meaning and purpose. These conversations focus on how we can learn to embody heart-centered leadership so we can influence real change and create a more beautiful world our hearts know is possible. So get ready for a neural upgrade, as we explore our medicine for change. I’m your host, Laura Dawn and I invite you to join me on this journey to a better future.
