I am originally from Louisiana and consider myself a slightly redneck Southern gentleman. I graduated from college with an MBA in Information Technology in 2000. I have always been one of those people that continually challenges myself. I love to go to new places, have new experiences and try things I have not done before. I traveled around the US for five years as an IT consultant. I took a break and lived in Spain for a year teaching English, attempted to learn Spanish (that was a bit of disasters lol!) and traveled around Europe on the holidays. I went back into IT and ended up in settling in New Zealand over fifteen years. In 2010 after living in New Zealand four years, I stumbled upon an opportunity to start a kettle corn business with another American guy I met in the boxing gym, who traveled to NZ to prepare his boxers for fights. Kettle corn was non-existent in NZ at the time. After researching over the weekend, I thought it would be a winner. Boy, were we right! We are thirteen years in business and the #2 popcorn manufacturer in NZ. We have two factories, fifteen staff, four popcorn lines and more popcorn products than I can keep track of! In the spring of 2019 after limping around the factory and several doctors, I got diagnosed with hip bone cancer. The surgery to remove the cancer that left me crippled with my left leg four inches shorter than the right. On my next scan I got lung and then pancreas cancer (had a less than 5% chance to beat it). I changed my diet, exercise routine and began to work on my mental/spiritual outlook. I retrained my mindset to believe I could beat cancer even though five specialists told me to plan my exit and gave me a year to live. Whipped all three of the cancers while still running NZ Kettle Korn, but I did move back to the US in spring 2021 for pancreatic cancer treatment. I am now 19 month cancer free and currently a patient with Mayo Clinic doing multiple surgeries over several months that will give me the four inches back. This is a custom, never done before hip implant and bone lengthening procedure that will be published in the medical journals.

When I was in 5th grade we did a 2 week section on Weather and from then on that's all I wanted to do! Studied all about weather on my own all thru Junior High and High School. I even spent my senior year in high school going to school 1/2 day and spending the other 1/2 day working at the National Weather Service. Went to college at the University of Oklahoma to study Meteorology. While there I was one of the people who helped start the Tornado Chasing program, which was made famous by the movie "Twister." Got my degree then went to Study Climatology at Arizona State. There I studied Arctic Climatology and Urban Climate Change. Through my research I have determined that the people who are predicting gloom and doom about the climate are full of shit and are a bunch of scam artists. I call it "The Church of Global Warming," headed by the High Priest Al Gore! The whole movement is proof once again that fools and their money are easily parted!!!
After about half of graduate school I got my start in the TV business in Phoenix in December of 1974, followed by a year in Wichita, Ks. and then on to Denver in March of 1977, where I got the name Sunny. (ask about the story)
During my 35 year career in TV I worked at Ch 9, 4 7 and 2 before being retired in the fall of 2009 during the great recession!
Fun things about my career:
On air experiences, Flying in a WW2 fighter, riding a bull and an elephant, having a bit part in a famous movie (the Shining) doing the weather on Good Morning America once and many others. (Doing the Weather live at a Zoo.)
Highlight of all this was in 35 years I only took 5 sick days and NEVER had one day when I got up in the morning and said "oh crap I have to go to work today) Great life and great way for my kids to grow up and watch this.

Matt Meister, Meteorologist Matt joined the FOX21 News team as chief meteorologist in January 2018. Matt has a lengthy history of forecasting weather in Colorado Springs and southern Colorado. From the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fires, to post-fire flooding, the Holly tornado and numerous high plains blizzards – Matt says “it’s really about the impacts weather causes to people, not the how and why. He’s a published author of several scientific papers, focused on his research of thunderstorms as part of an automated forecasting and tracking system. The NCAR Thunderstorm AutoNowcaster was deployed to Sydney, Australia and was used to forecast thunderstorms during the Summer Olympic Games in 2000. Components of that system are integrated into thunderstorm analysis tools in local National Weather Service offices across the country today. All of Matt's education and professional experience resides along the Front Range. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology with a minor in Mathematics from Metro State in Denver. Matt worked as the weekend meteorologist at KGWN-TV, the CBS affiliate in Cheyenne, Wyoming before arriving in Colorado Springs at KRDO NewsChannel 13 in September of 2001 as the weekend meteorologist. In April of 2005 Matt was promoted to the weekday evening meteorologist and later in the year became the chief meteorologist. In October of the same year Matt was the first meteorologist in southern Colorado to be recognized as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society.
Matt left television to join School District 49 as the director of communications in 2014. Matt led District 49 marketing, communication, public relations and media relations efforts through a transparent, two-way communication strategy. Matt helped lead the district’s continuous improvement and process development efforts. The District 49 communications department received numerous Colorado School Public Relations Association Awards, including two Medallion Awards for overall excellence under his leadership. Matt is blessed to live in Colorado Springs with his wife Misty and his two children. He enjoys cooking, playing guitar, and a number of outdoor activities including hunting and skiing. Matt donates time as volunteer youth sports coach, at his church, and a number of non-profit organizations. Matt loves personally interacting with viewers, whether its at the grocery store or online.
