Over-fragmentation of the European defense market is a major issue that weakens the EU’s military capabilities and efficiency. The EU countries have too many different weapon systems, national procurement processes, and military standards, making interoperability difficult and reducing cost-effectiveness. Since July 2019 Werner Amon is the Austrian Ombudsman and was appointed Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI).
Werner Amon counts on more than 25 years of experience as a member of the Austrian Parliament and also gained extensive professional experience in the international field. As spokesman of the Austrian People's Party, Werner Amon was responsible for the areas of European and foreign policy as well as human rights and development policy.
Jayanthi Devi Balaguru is currently the Chairperson of the CALD Women’s Caucus and the President of the International Network of Liberal Women. In July 2019, she was also elected as the member of the Liberal International Human Rights Bureau. She is a lawyer and has held many prominent positions in her political party Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (PGRM). She is an advocate for a fair and just society who believes that each voice needs to be heard and rights should be respected. Jayanthi regularly conducts programs on women empowerment. She obtained her Bachelor of Laws from Staffordshire, England and later received her Master’s of Law from the University of Malaya.
Hakima el Haité is a member of the executive board of Mouvement Populaire Morocco. Ms El Haité was elected as the 14th president of Liberal International at the 62nd Congress in Dakar, Senegal in 2018 and she is the second female president in LI’s history and the first from the Middle East – North Africa Region.
El Haité is an internationally recognised leader in the fields of environmental sustainability development & climate change. As the former Minister of Environment for the Kingdom of Morocco, she was a major actor in bringing COP22 to Morocco. She was elected vice president of COP 21 (Paris Agreement) and appointed as Special Envoy and UN High-Level Champion of the International Climate Conference (COP 22).
