A safe space where mental health in teenagers isn’t a taboo but is real and raw, oh and most importantly by a teen who understands (or tries her best to).

She also speaks about how everything is going on her new medication after about a month, and how she personally has been implementing coping mechanisms recently.

DifferentMental disorders and types of mental illness call for different types of reactions, in this episode Sara focuses on depression and anxiety. But, the takeaways of this episode can be applied to any and every form of mental health. Just because someone does not struggle with mental health does not mean they cannot do their part to destigmatize and help the people around them. It’s also important for mental health allies to take care of themselves Sara go into that as well!

She speaks specifically about things not to say to someone with anxiety especially during panic attacks, and things not to say to someone with depression. A lot of people don’t understand what toxic positivity is and why it is harmful so that is the next thing to be explained! In this episode Sara talks about the “gatekeepers” of mental health or the people who feel like they can judge others based on their own experience or perception. She talks about how these can be peers, other adults in ones life, or society. She talks about negative these things can be to people who are struggling to feel valid. Sara thinks this one is pretty organized as she is getting much more comfortable in front of a mic!

She also goes into how she feels society contributes to unhealthy perceptions by romanticizing and presenting inaccurate portrayals of teen mental health. She lists 100 reasons you should stay to live another day for anyone who needs to hear them. She thinks her habit of saying um is getting slightly better! She’s not so sure about her organization though haha.
Sara (our resident teen non therapist) introduces herself as a person as well as why she created this podcast. She gets into what you can expect in the future and some general thoughts about teenage mental health in today’s society. She promises future episodes will be more organized (and she will stop saying um) she’s learning and it can only go up from here, right? Yup.
