As we close out 2021; if you were to audit how you used your time; would you be satisfied or would you be dissatisfied? Time is precious and how you use it demonstrates the value you place on time. So with 27 days left in the year; how do you plan on using the time. Are you going to cruise to the end; because lets face it 2021 was a challenging year! Are you going to end with a bang and give it your last shot? However you choose to use the time; it's really your prerogative.

I would encourage you to invest the time and be intentional with how you use it and who you share it with. Identify what or who is important to you. Uncover the why; write the goal, outline the actions, find the accountability partner and get to it! I hope the Christmas season finds you celebrating the fact that you are still here and you still have so much to give, see and do! Take care of yourselves and remember "there are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view!"

Personal Development doesn’t always have to be so serious! It can be fun! As Jamaicans we can be so expressive and so creative in giving our commonsense wisdom. We are fearless when we communicate. The proverbs I share are centered around the theme of knowing your limit. Growth happens outside of your comfort zone so a willingness to push past your limit is a sure way to evolve! The proverbs below share this sentiment.

Monkey mus know weh him go put him tail before him order trousiz. Be clear about how you’re going to carry out the task; before you initiate the process. Before taking on projects consider the implications of the yes. There is value in pausing and assessing whether or not you should yes to the opportunity. When we say yes to things; do we have a limitation or insecurity that could hinder us. It is indeed good to say yes and push the boundaries. Keep in mind; when we say yes to something; we are saying no to something else.

If cow did know how him throat hole tan; or how him batty part. Him wouldn’t chance pear seed. We do not always realize our limitations. We are willing to embrace opportunities; that we tend to forget our limitations. It is good to take on something outside of you comfort zone. When we know our limitations; we can make easier choices. The decision doesn’t become can I or do I do it. It becomes should I do it or not. We can decide whether or not to take on the challenges because we know what we’re capable. Knowing your limitations makes the decision making process easier. Recognize that you have limits and there is nothing wrong; embracing your limitations and pushing past them if you think there is value in doing so.

Until next time remember "There are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view!"

Every day above ground is a good day! If you are blessed to see another day and complete it; give all the gratitude and appreciation you can. You possess the most powerful thing on this entire "space rock" also known as earth - your mind. You can shape and determine the life you will live by your thoughts and what you focus on. You are really a thought away from happiness or sorrow.

If you create thought and power it with feeling the results will truly leave you amazed. I encourage you to purchase and read this book The Feeling Is the Secret by Neville Goddard. This powerful little book helps you unlock this power. It is my hope that as you get ready to face whatever life throws at you; remember you are more than the world wants you to think. You truly are a thought away from happiness or sorrow.

Envy is a symptom of the lack mindset and scarcity mentality. This mindset limits thinking, shields skills and talents and distorts perspectives. The good news is we don''t have to want the glory and not know the story! We can write our own story and bask in that glory. To want success you have to be successful; you have to become that which you desire. You have to start with who you are now and what you have. Examine your habits and choice; are you set on the path towards success or it is destruction. Who do you associate with and is your environment nurturing. Listen to this episode to learn why being envious is a waste of energy.

A Twitter personality (@iamannapepe) shared a powerful reminder I felt the need to share in this week's episode. "There is so much power in your spoken words today - speak words that align you with what you want to have manifested in your physical reality. Don't go into conversations which cause you to speak in misalignment". What a way to draw our attention to the power of our words and the need for self-awareness and intentional living. How deliberate and intentional are you with the words you speak? Listen to host - Shakira Moore - as she shares her own experiences and learn why you should be intentional with your words!

As we continue to live through this pandemic we continue to find ways to cope, survive or even thrive. I am reminded that this will look very different for each of us. What has been very helpful is the conversations I have with the people who are close to me; and this episode is one such conversation. In this revisited episode my friend Jermaine O'Connor and I discuss a few of his poems and how applicable they are to our lives as we navigate the pandemic.  He shared plenty; we both drop gems and we experience Ah ha moments through out this conversation!  It is my sincere hope that you walk away with a fresh perspective: on life, relationships, boundaries and what you place value on! If you feel better, are inspired to think differently and act differently, if you are motivated to have a new lease on life then Jermaine and I would have done our jobs!  The links to his two amazing books!   Reminder and Revelations: https://www.amazon.ca/Reminders-Revelations-Anthony-Jones/dp/1984174878  The Resolve: https://www.amazon.ca/s?k=the+resolve+Anthony+Jones&i=stripbooks&ref=nb_sb_noss  Thank you for your continued support and drop me a note at thepersepectivematters@gmail.com I would love to hear from you!!

The 1988 Flourgon hit song "We Run Tings" is a declaration to all that "we are the masters of our fate; we control circumstances - circumstances don't control us". This song embodies a triumphant, daring, resolute spirit; it suggests that we are not a pushover and we won't take anything lying down.

To have this kind of spirit; you must be self aware and know the difference between responding and reacting. Responding carries with it a certain level of emotional and spiritual maturity, wisdom and discernment. To react is to engage without intention; you don't pause to reflect on the choices and consequences you simply allow your emotions to take over.

With the current state of the world there is a pervading sentiment of lack of control; we are at the mercy of our nations' government; we still live in lockdowns and curfews. It is quite easy to feel and believe we are not in control. I encourage you to change your perspective - you are in control of how you view the situation and how you will process and ultimately engage - whether you respond or react.

So what will you decide? Will you choose to respond or react? We will be loud and proud in your declaration "we run tings tings nuh run we" will you live from moment to moment confident in the knowledge that whatever happens you will be ok? It is my sincere hope; that as we face a new month and the rest of 2021 each of us will be encouraged and emboldened by the lyrics of the Flourgon song and we will live our lives defiantly thinking, believing and saying "WE RUN TINGS TINGS NUH RUN WE"

In this episode Shakira revisits the topic Mind Your Business. Within the Caribbean context; mind your business serves as a warning, advice or a reminder. Often times this phrase is said with some well intended tough love. Despite the intention mind your business is really solid advice. In this episode I talk about the importance of minding your business and decision making. Here are you some books that talk about the right conditions and strategies for making good decisions.

Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgment by Daniel Kahneman

When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing by Daniel H. Pink

Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely

The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates by Wes Moore

Paradox of Choice: Why More is Less by Barry Schwartz

Nudge by Richard H. Thaler

How to Decide: Simple Tools for Making Better Choices by Annie Duke

Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength by Roy Baumeister

This list is by no means exhaustive but it's definitely a solid start! I hope you are inspired by this episode and that you will endeavor to make good decisions especially when it comes to minding your business!

This Thanksgiving is going to look a little different for some use as we continue to navigate life in this global pandemic. The air of festivity might not quite be like it was pre-pandemic but we still have a lot to be  grateful for.

I want to share the lessons I learnt and reflected on in 2020 that still hold true this year. I encourage you to reflect on all you have gone through and acknowledge that you are still here! You are still above ground and any day above ground is a good day. So while the merriment might not be as you would like and even if it is; take a moment to bask in appreciation and gratitude.

I hope you enjoy this episode and the reminders I share with you. I pray you too will reflect on the lessons you've learnt so far. Celebrate that you have learnt them even if they were painful.  I send you an abundance of love, peace and well wishes for the day and for the rest of this year.

Death and loss feel like a weighted blanket or a dark cloud that looms over us; if that is what we choose to see. Life for the past 19 months has been chaotic; unpredictable, mentally and emotionally demanding. We have had to really lean into our resilience to make it to this point. Revisiting the Perspective Matters is necessary as it serves to remind us that; we choose what we focus on. How we choose to look at things impact how we feel and how we face the world.

We can focus on loss or we can focus on what we still have. We can lose our hope or cling to it. We can withdraw or we can embrace life and all it offers us. Our time on this earth is short; so live your best life! Love hard; hug tighter; kiss longer! This journey will take you on a roller coaster ride; you can hang on for dear life or you can let go and surrender!

I hope each of you has a strong support system you can turn to; and you appreciate all the good things you have in this life. If you doubt this; pause and reflect on all that you have and you may be pleasantly surprised to learn how blessed you truly are! Until next time remember; there are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view.

Hearing something for the second, third or fourth usually hits different! It connects deeper and really resonates! So in this episode I revisit Episode 13 and explore what we place value on, is it material things, is it accolades, is it your personal and social relationships?

The simple things in life, like being able to breathe, being able to see, being able to move unassisted are often taken for granted and are our biggest blessings. Going through the lyrics of Simple Blessings by Tarrus Riley and Konshens is an exercise in discovering what really matters and where our blessings really lie.

It is rather cliche but it still holds true; we live in unprecedented times! Now more than ever we need to be patient with ourselves first and then with others. In this episode I revisit the topic of Patience because we need this gentle reminder. Life is coming at some of us hard, fast and aggressive. As we navigate this new world and grapple with our new normal we have extend to ourselves grace and compassion!

In this revisited episode; I expand the discussion by sharing three tips with you:

Practice - practicing patience is really the only way we will get better at being patient. Look for opportunities to practice. Remember being patient means you are accessing that personal power that allows you to wait without being angry or upset.

Pay Attention To Progress Not Perfection - None of us are perfect and yet while this is true it is not an excuse to not strive for improvement. We were not handed a manual on how to live in a pandemic! So do the best you can and if you fall short be gentle and forgiving. Praise yourself when you succeed; celebrating your victories will encourage you to keep striving.

Reduce The Stress - Exhaustion and overwhelm seem to be constant companions in our lives. To really embody patience; we need to audit our lives and determine the areas and source(s) of our stress. Where possible delegate or outsource tasks so you don't take on more than you can truly handle. Know when to ask for help, ask for help and accept the help!

My beautiful souls I send you love, peace, joy and I wish for you an abundance of opportunities to practice patience. Remember there are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view!

Be kind to yourself! Dhani Arias reminds us that on this journey of life being kind to ourselves is so important. "There will always be times when it's hard to remember your strengths. These are the times you need to give yourself special attention. Be kind to yourself, kindness nurtures and gives hopes to your dreams. Respect yourself, listen to your needs, and treat yourself as you would a dear friend. Encourage yourself, don't take for granted the qualities that make you unique. Focus on yourself, it is with discipline and motivation that you will move towards your goals. Be giving towards yourself, in that way, your strength will increase, and you'll be realizing your goals one day at a time." To determine what kindness is and means to you; you need to have self awareness and that comes from spending the time with yourself and getting to know yourself. Before you can extend kindness to others you have to extend it to yourself. Hold space for yourself; be compassionate towards yourself; give yourself that grace especially when the times are hard. Nurture yourself and pour into yourself. What are you affirming? Do you celebrate your unique qualities. Do you show yourself appreciation? Embrace being your own hype-man! Sometimes you have to look in the mirror pop your collar and say "Yea I did that!" :or "Yea I am that woman/man" Know what you want and go after it like your life depends on it. You owe it to yourself to try. To pursue your goals; you require discipline and motivation. Your faith in yourself has to be unwavering regardless of the outcome. When you can give to yourself and give what you need; your personal strength increases and you can truly thrive. Recognize too that someone's reaction to you may not be about you but a projection of how they feel and think about themselves. It is good to examine if your behavior and action warranted such a response from that person. If you know within your heart of hearts you are not the cause; then extend them the grace they so desperately need. Whew it will be easy and sometimes you gotta curse a person out! And send them back from whence they came. But remember words have tremendous power and be mindful of what you put out into the world. The word you give could save somebody's life. When you get the chance to be kind; please be kind. It may require you to rise above a desire to lay someone flat but your higher self has faith that you know better and will do better. You are unique and special; nobody can do you like you can. Walk through this world with the confidence that you have what it takes to realize your dreams and you are willing to do what it takes. For one day; one day your goals will be a reality.

There are some songs that are my go to for feeling good! Whenever I want to raise my spirits and improve my mood; I put on my playlist and dance without a care! Music has the power to soothe, to calm, to encourage introspection, to heal. Chronixx is an ambassador for Reggae music and the Revolution this wave of artistes herald. Skankin Sweet reminds us to let go and surrender to the power of music and dance.

Music helps us to shift our focus and see things from a different perspective. Pressures of life, problems and challenges can obscure our view and if we are not careful we are caught in a cycle of worry, fear and powerlessness. Dance because you know the truth, this life is temporary, every thing has an expiration date and this too shall pass. Raise your vibrations and remember the Universe responds to the energy you offer. Abundance, peace, prosperity and all good things are only a good thought away. You tune into abundance, so dial in and match the frequency of your desires.

When you acknowledge that gratitude is the key to unlocking the magic; your life will begin to take on a whole new meaning. Solitude is necessary, so if you are abandoned, go within for there is where the answers live.

As the last episode of Season 3 I had to end on a high note! I needed to reinforce the message that your life is your own and you can do whatever you want; the opinions of others shouldn't matter to you! The Tarrus Riley song My Day is such a fun upbeat song laden with positive messages and reminders that you determine the kind of day and life you have. If you set your intentions; hold a vision and keep to the mission you can fulfill your destiny. Tarrus reminds us that the criticism of others; their negativity and low energy can't impact us when we are vibing high; and we're tapped in emotionally; mentally and spiritually.

As you set your goals and pursue your dreams; give yourself the room to be; take up all the space you need to grow and flourish. Don't let the expectations of others confine you and restrict your growth. Focus on how you feel and cultivate the winning spirit! Tell the world; look out cause here I come! You are full of so much potential but you need to exercise self belief and take action. Let your actions be intentional; surround yourself with like-minded people who will push you towards your greatest self! Use your challenges as opportunities to grow and increase your resilience and tenacity!

I wish you all the best and send you love and blessings! Until next time remember there are two sides to every coin just flip it to get the full view!

It is so easy to think that life is hopeless and there's no point in going on. I'm here to remind you; once you have breath you have options. Likkle But We Tallawah is the expression of the Jamaican spirit. We are not defined by our size or confined to the expectations of a small island nation. We are bold, fearless, resilient, strong, passionate people. We have an indomitable spirit. We are everywhere and we know how to shine. I am proud to be a Jamaican; I am honored to be apart of a culture that has impacted the world in a tremendous way. We have left an indelible mark on music, athletics, food, fashion, the arts, science. We were the first nation to voice our disagreement and displeasure with apartheid in South Africa! We took that step and the world followed. We are natural born leaders; it's in our DNA!

The 2020 Olympics was yet another opportunity to remind the world that we may be small but we are MIGHTY. We are not just happy to be there; we came to win! The black, green and gold flew high and proud and it was thrilling to witness! We made history by having the first woman to ever achieve the DOUBLE DOUBLE! Elaine Thompson-Herah successfully defended her 100m and 200m titles. What a time to be alive; what a time to be a Jamaican!

Jamaica has so much to offer and there is so much to emulate. If you should choose one thing; it should be our spirit. As you navigate your life and make choices about your dreams; embody the spirit of power, passion and purpose. Tell yourself you want it; you will have it; believe it and then go get it! Let no one's opinion dissuade you. Let no challenges shake you. In times of doubt, look in the mirror and remind yourself; you are Tallawah!

To my fellow Jamaicans let's continue to do our homeland proud; represent our island well! Be ambassadors of one of the most impactful brands on earth! Wear the black, green and gold with pride. If anyone should dare to question why you are here; remind them that you come from a history of warriors; a lineage of movers, shakers and history makers. Never underestimate us; cause we likkle but we Tallawah!

Today August 1st many former European colonies will celebrate Emancipation Day. A specific group of people thought it was a good idea to enslave another group of people and visit on them unspeakable horror; the effects of which we are still experiencing. When we endure that kind of trauma it impacts our genetic makeup and affects our entire lineage. Slavery was not going to end; because it was highly profitable; so no body bothered to consider the implications of slavery. For this week I want to talk about the Freedom of the Mind. While our ancestors’ physical body was enslaved; their mind wasn’t. It was defiant and so lighting acres of sugar cane was the order of the day; planning and leading rebellions; forming a militia speaks to the fearless warrior spirit our ancestors.

The trauma was passed down and so too was the resilient and fighting spirit. You are your ancestors’ wildest dreams, because we are their wildest dreams. We don’t have the luxury of playing it safe. We don’t have the time for doubt, for the imposter syndrome. Because everything you are and everything you have accomplished was a dream of your ancestor. Learning to read was a crime punishable by death and our ancestors learned to read anyway. While some of us out here behave like reading is a chore; we have the luxury of reading any time and some of us out here refuse to read a caption. That is privilege. Some of us have forgotten to cost of the freedoms we enjoy.

Our minds could be enslaved whether it is self-imposed or the effects of Society. Bob Marley in his song Redemption Song reminds in his thought-provoking soul stirring song “Emancipate yourself from mental slavery none but ourselves can free our mind. Have no fear for atomic energy cause none of them can stop the time”. Some of us are walking around and we are not free. We are imprisoned because of fear; self doubt, the opinions of others.

We are enslaved by the preoccupation with They. A popular question we ask is “what will they think or what will they say”. Let them talk. The opinions of others should not be your business when it comes to living your life and pursuing your dreams. Emancipation day calls for honest introspection. We need to have that raw honest vulnerable conversation with ourselves. Assess if we are really living up to our full potential! Our ancestors did not endure all they did; just so you could play it safe. You are here afraid to take risks! Meanwhile your ancestors where here plotting how to escape the horrors of slavery; which they did and they went back and helped others escape too! And you are afraid of taking a chance on yourself and go after your dreams because you are afraid of what they will think and what they will say? Ask yourself what do I want to do? Ask yourself that question. Once you can figure that out; it will dictate what you need to do. The next questions to ask are: am I willing and am I able. You are special and you are your ancestors wildest dreams. Take up as much space as you want! It will require a lot healing and mental work but it can be done.!

Jamaican proverbs are full of so much common sense wisdom that offer guidance on how we navigate life. Personal Development doesn’t always have to be so serious! It can be fun! As Jamaicans we can be so expressive and how creative we are in giving our commonsense wisdom and the fearlessness with which we communicate.

Monkey mus know weh him go put him tail before him order trousiz. Be clear about how you’re going to carry out the task; before you initiate the process. We want to take on projects without considering the implications of the yes. You say yes; without understanding what you are saying yes to. There is value in pausing and assessing whether or not you should yes to the opportunity. When we say yes to things; do we have a limitation or insecurity that could hinder us. It is good to say yes and push the boundaries. When we say yes to something; we are saying no to something else.

If cow did know how him throat hole tan; or how him batty part. Him wouldn’t chance pear seed. We do not always realize our limitations. We are willing to embrace opportunities; that we tend to forget our limitations. It is good to take on something outside of you comfort zone and skillset. It is good to be mindful that we have limitations. We shouldn’t look at ourselves in that manner; because we restrict ourselves in what we explore. When we know our limitations; we can make easier choices. The decision doesn’t become can I or do I do it; it becomes should I do or not. We can decide whether or not to take on the challenges because we know what we’re capable. Knowing your limitations makes the decision making process easier. Recognize that you have limits and there is nothing wrong; embracing your limitations and pushing past them if you think there is value in doing so.

When you go a jackass yard; you nuh fi chat bout him big ears. Being tactful and kind is important. Don’t criticize someone in their presence or behind their back. If you think your feedback will add value; then find a kind way to share it with the person. It is better to kind than to be nice. Whether it is a physical or character trait; find a kind compassionate way to provide the feedback. It is the person’s prerogative to accept or reject your feedback. If you can guarantee that your feedback won’t make the person feel small; insignificant and unworthy then share your feedback. If you can guarantee that you will add value; make a positive impact and improve their day then by all means share it. But if believe because you are sharing the truth you can be blunt and rude; just remember the roles can be reversed.

Man nuh cross river nuh fi cuss alligator say him mouth long. This is a timely reminder. We need people; we are social beings. As a fellow introvert; being around people can be hard; it can be emotionally and physically exhausting. We were wired to function in a community. By living in tribes and clans; they were able to secure their safety. Safety from the elements and safety from predators. As you engage with people be mindful of your interactions. I’m not encouraging you to be a brown-noser. Your value should come from you and what you can bring to the table. Your integrity and strength of character is where you place your value; not in who you can compliment. Be authentic and sincere in your dealings. Don’t be dismissive of people just because you perceive they can’t do anything for you. Be honest in all your dealings; have the highest integrity. Be genuine in your relationship building. Don’t use people. Don’t treat people as objects. Don’t let your position in life to inflate your ego. Don’t be misled by the belief that you are untouchable so you can treat people poorly. You don’t know the connections and reach of people.

Until next time remember "There are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view!"

Long pass draw sweat; short-cut draw blood. While this proverb is a warning for the risks involved in taking a shorter route for a literal journey. We can also apply this proverb to our lives and the pursuit of our goals and dreams. Taking a short-cut may yield less than ideal results and leave you feeling dissatisfied or worse. The long route involves more time and requires patience but the results could leave you feeling very satisfied and please with yourself.

If the advantages outweigh the risks and you have done your due diligence then by all means take the short cut. As long as you are not succumbing to the temptation of the "microwave mentality". In all you do exercise wisdom, discernment, good judgement and remember it's just as much about the journey as it is the destination.

"A patient man rides the donkey" is a Jamaican proverb used to extol the virtue of patience. After-all, if you know the obstinacy of a donkey anyone who can ride one and get to their destination; truly embodies patience. For this week's episode I use this proverb to remind us of the patience we need in the pursuit of our dreams. We live in a time when the microwave mentality is rather dominant and instant gratification is the order of the day.

With social media; we see many displays of success; which seemingly appear to have happened overnight. When the reality is these successes were decades in the making. In pursuing our dreams; we must remember to focus on our own journey. Do not allow comparison to steal your joy and peace of mind. When you see other people being successful use it as motivation to continue; for one day your glow up will happen! After nuhbaddi no more dan u!

Use July to commit to being disciplined; focused and intentional. Take an honest and hard look at your habits to determine what is preventing you from achieving your goals and dreams. Examine your mindset and your self talk. Are you really taking steps towards your goals or moving away from them? A period of quiet reflection will yield the answers you seek.

It is my hope that as you embrace the Summer and all it brings; you will be open to the idea that patience is needed in the pursuit of your dreams. You will commit to being the person who is willing to do what is necessary to see your goals realized! Happy dreaming and remember there are two sides to every coin just flip it to get the full view!

So this episode brings a lot of controversy this week because I am going to say somethings that will make mothers grab their pearls and children might just balk at the very idea. I am a firm believer that we should disappoint our parents; if it means staying true to who we are! This doesn't mean I don't love my parents; or appreciate all they have done for me, it doesn't mean I don't respect my parents either. What it means is; I embrace the truth that I am a sovereign being who has a final say over how I live my life. I live on my own terms and I will not live to please people!!

The decisions I make about my life will be for my own good and in my best interest. The advice given to me is what is best for the advice giver and based on their lived experience. I may hear you; but the know that the final choice is up to me. If you feel offended by how I live my life; go sit with yourself and uncover why you are so bothered.

There are some parents who are like a ball and chain around the necks and feet of their children. Their expectations are laced with failures from their own lives and their children must live out these expectations for fear of disappointing their parents. To that I say DISAPPOINT YOUR PARENTS your life is not their life and the approval you so desperately seek from your parents may never be given to you! So why would you sacrifice your own happiness on the alter of their expectations? Don't do it; it's not worth it.

My hope is that at the end of your life; if you are so privileged to have the time to reflect; you will be filled with satisfaction and content. For you would have lived a life that makes for an interesting story to share with your grand-kids. You would have seen and done it all; whatever all looks like to you!

In one of my favourite books; The Prophet; Khalil Gibran talks about children and the kind of relationship parents should strive to have. He reminds us that children don't belong to parents. They are the son's and daughter's of life's longing for itself. Though they may come through you and are with you; they don't belong to you. Don't give them your thoughts for they have their own." I love this poem and I am so glad I heard about this powerful book. I believe this with my entire being and I remind myself often that nobody owns us; especially our parents. When I become a parent I don't own my children.

I encourage each and everyone of you to honestly sit with yourselves; as parents and as children and examine the relationship you have. Parents are you a shackle around the feet of your children? Children do you live to please your parents; striving daily to meet their expectations and seek their approval in everything you? Now is the time to stop it; STOP IT! Let go! Go live your lives so when it ends you can say - I did it my way!!

This popular question - "To be or not to be" is as old as time. Yet it is still relevant today; more so as the world pushes us to be ambitious and go after our goals. This week I explore why we have ambitions and where the desire to achieve comes from. Is it born out of good old fashioned fear, or a deep seated fear of being forgotten after we passed on or is it a desire for self expression? I ask poignant questions; which I hope will encourage us to reflect and truly uncover the the source of our desires to achieve - if you we have such desires.

I want us to truly sit with ourselves and examine if we can embrace just being - no striving; no hustling; no goals setting; nothing but to just exist for the pleasure of it. When was the last time; you did absolutely nothing and you didn't feel guilty? Can you allow yourself to just live and not worry about goals; dreams and ambitions; for a short while? This is not an endorsement to be lazy! NOT AT ALL!! I want us to realize that our worth; doesn't come from what we do; and have. You are; you exist and so you matter; your value comes from being you! There is only one you and nobody can do it better!

Some of us wait to go on vacation to relax, refresh and have fun. Others wait for a long weekend; why don't we create smaller moments where we enjoy life because we choose to. When was the last time you stopped to smell the flowers or bought yourself flowers? Can you remember hearing the birds chirp and enjoying nature at play? If we pause and observe we would quickly realize we have countless opportunities to just be! To be in the present; wholly and completely immersed in the present. Access all our senses and truly experience life!

To have goals is simply amazing; the pursuit of achievement offers direction to our lives and gives us meaning. But remember there is value in just being! Taking a moment for yourself is necessary. Taking a pause can re-center you; re-direct you; provide sharper focus; offer a fresh perspective or energize you to pick up right where you left off.

Whatever you decide is totally up to you! Do what is best for you and what offers you peace!

Say one wrong thing and you are likely to be cancelled! Utter a different opinion online and strangers want to burn you at the stake. Being politically correct and practicing respectability politics seem to be the order of the day. If you want to be understood; you must seek to understand. So being open to different points of view becomes oh so important. We are all unique and have different experiences but to get a balanced perspective; it is helpful to walk around in the other person's shoes.

It is absolutely ok to disagree; what is not ok - is to be utterly disrespectful. A disagreement is not an invitation for disrespect. Walk away at the first sign of it.  Don't engage if it is going to cost you your peace or leave you open to attacks. It's more important to have your peace than to be right.

If you make an effort to see other points of view and open yourself up to a different perspective; you may actually see a balanced view. So practice being open, be a little bit more willing to hear the other person out. It doesn't mean you will agree; or change your opinion; it just means you recognize there is room for different points of view.

Be bold in sharing your opinions; be open to receiving a different perspective. Remember there are two sides to every coin; just flip it to get the full view!

Flourgon's 1988 hit song "We Run Tings" is a declaration to all who will listen that "we are the masters of our fate; we control circumstances - circumstances don't control us". To respond is to first go within, assess the circumstances and then decide if it is worthy of a response - no response is also a response - and there are some people who need to receive the gift of silence from us. To react is to engage without intention; you don't pause to reflect on the choices and consequences you simply allow your emotions to take over. This often ends with someone going on an apology tour! The good old saying "he who angers you; controls you" has a lot of truth to it. If someone can get a rise out of you; then you sadly are no better than a puppet. Of course anger has it's place and is a very useful emotion if managed correctly. So I encourage anger; just make sure it's a deliberate response and not an unwitting reaction. When you change the way you look at things; the things you look at change. Now more than ever this is so true.

Don't watch the noise in the market watch the sale! If you have ever been to a Caribbean market or a farmers market on a good day; it can be quite noisy. It is so easy to be distracted by all that is happening. If we apply this proverb to our lives; we can be guided by the same principle: don't be distracted by all that is happening in the world; pay attention to what is in front of you and mind your business. Our attention is always being sought by one thing or another. It is up to you; to decide what matters to you and what deserves your attention and by extension your energy.

In the pursuit of your purpose, your goals and dreams; the world will have plenty to say. Your family, friends and loved ones will all have their opinions. Remember this; your dream was given to only you. It wasn't shared via a conference call. So get comfortable with that knowledge and make peace with the fact that everyone will not understand; everyone cannot go with you; everyone will like or accept your dreams; everyone will have an opinion.

Another point to remember: don't judge your success based on what is going on around you. It is tempting to think others in the market are doing well because of all the noise. If there is no noise at your stall then you aren't doing well. That is simply not true; it is the sale that matters. That is what determines your success. So on your journey through this thing called life; remember that your success should be defined by you; if it doesn't look like everything else you see around you; it's ok!

You're in the market to make a sale not make noise. So don't watch the noise in the market; watch the Sale!!

In a time where there is so much happening in the world - a Global pandemic; open season on black people - it is important that we know how to protect our peace. Your peace is that inner calm; that assurance, the spiritual and mental balance you create to deal with any and everything life throws at you. The five tips I share in this episode are meant to guide you and give you ideas about how you can protect your peace. You can implement all five; just one or as needed.

To protect your peace you should:

  1. Take care of yourself - your body, mind and soul. (If you have trouble sleeping you can try magnesium supplements. "Magnesium may improve your sleep. It plays an important role in your nervous system, it helps to activate mechanisms that quiet and calm you. Magnesium helps to slow down your thinking by regulating a neurotransmitter called GABA. This neurotransmitter slows down communication between your brain and your central nervous system; helping you to relax, de-stress and ultimately fall asleep"

  2. Pay attention to where you pay attention - Whatever you give your attention to is amplified; so if you look for the beauty in life that is all you will see. Conversely, if all you look for all this is wrong with this world; you will find it. Thought leaders share the principle that energy goes where energy flows; so be mindful of what gets your attention.

  3. Enforce your boundaries - Learn to say no. Your boundaries are meant to protect you. You should know your limits as it relates to your emotional and mental health. Don't take on the emotional burden of others. Take a step back and don't be so accessible to others.

  4. Be grateful - examine your life to see all the blessings you have in your life and all the things that are good about your life. Remind yourself; that there a persons who would trade places with you; so acknowledge the good in your life and be sincere with your gratitude. This will change your perspective and unlock all the magic in your life.

  5. Be intentional with your thoughts, words and actions - your thoughts influence your perspective and impact your speech and actions. So be mindful of your thoughts. Feed your mind with uplifting content, positive affirms, empowering information. Guard your speech and don't damn yourself and retard your progress with your speech. Be an active participant in your life and be mindful of your actions.

I hope as you navigate the rest of this month, year and this thing called life. Remember your peace is precious.

As I celebrate the birthday of the King of Reggae - Bob Marley; I had to reflect on his life, his message, his philosophy, his impact. Bob Marley left a mark on humanity and the impact of his music will be felt for centuries to come. His music and his unwavering message of love, peace and unity transcends race, gender, age and class. His mission was to bring a consciousness to people so they could "wake up and live".

This episode is in honor of Bob Marley and I want to share 6 lessons with you.

  1. Don't work for success. Work for the fulfillment of your purpose.

  2. Your words and your actions must align.

  3. Speak life and speak love. (Episode 4 Intentional Speech How Words Hurt and Heal; talk about the power of words. Take a listen!)

  4. Know thyself.

  5. People must come into self awareness on their own.

  6. Everything rests in the mind.

I trust that you will celebrate Bob Marley's birthday; play his music, remind yourself of his message and commit to walking a path that leads you to your purpose. Drop me a line and tell me your favorite Bob Marley song!

There is a lot that is going on in the world right now that demands our attention: from the US Presidential Elections; to a Global Pandemic; to our own personal challenges and even the pursuit of our goals! At times it is important to silence the outside noise; especially when it brings interference and not help.

By silencing the noise; you can focus on your perspective instead of paying  attention to every one else's opinion. This allows you to trust yourself more; become more self reliant and develop your intuition.

My hope is that as you listen to this episode; you will reflect on the importance of silencing the noise in your own life. Magic and revelations spring from the quiet.

I'm sending you peace, love and light! Until next time; remember there are two sides to every coin just flip it to catch the full view.

Thanksgiving in 2020 is going to look a little different for us; for very obvious and not so obvious reasons. I am accustomed to seeing signs of Fall and the upcoming festivities but for this year; the festive air seems missing. So for this episode I wanted to go back to my roots and find a proverb that reminds us that in every little thing be grateful. Your little bit; might be a luxury to others.

For this Thanksgiving I want you to focus on the lessons you have learnt these past few months. I encourage you to reflect on all you have gone through and acknowledge that you are still here! You are still above ground and any day above ground is a good day. So while the merriment might be at a minimum remember there is still a lot to give thanks for.

I hope you enjoy this episode and as I share with you my lessons from these last few months; you too will reflect on your own lessons. Celebrate that you have learnt them even if they were painful.  I send you an abundance of love, peace and well wishes for the day and for the rest of this year.

As we continue to live through this new reality and find ways to cope, survive or even thrive; I am reminded that this will look very different for each of us. My coping skills will be far different from yours and that's ok! I move between wanting to reach out to my loved ones and wanting to be closed off from the world.  What has been very helpful is the conversations I have with the people who are close to me; and this episode is one such conversation. My friend and colleague Jermaine O'Connor is a deep thinker and an author so I wanted to get his perspective on what this reality means to him; how he's coping and what words of wisdom he can share. He shared plenty! This is by far the longest episode and with good reason! We both drop gems and we experience Ah ha moments through out this conversation!  It is my sincere hope that you walk away with a fresh perspective: on life, relationships, boundaries and what you place value on! If you feel better, are inspired to think differently and act differently, if you are motivated to have a new lease on life then Jermaine and I would have done our jobs! His first book is sharp and punchy! So brace yourselves because you will get some jabs to the chin and a few punches under your ribs!!! (But it is done with love and you will be a better person for it). As the days roll into each other and 2020 advances; staying indoors has now become the new way of life. We are encouraged to practice social distancing; but how much distance can we give when we live with other persons. They key to maintaining your peace of mind and sanity is to set your boundaries.

Boundaries are guidelines that help an individual set limits and rules that govern how people behave towards you and how you behave towards them.  How you set your boundaries is dependent on how you were raised and the value you place on your person-hood. It is quite possible that your desire to enforce your boundaries will be met with resistance. But it is your right to enforce your boundaries. The manner you use to enforce your boundaries can impact how the other person receives the message.

Setting boundaries is helpful and necessary; in a time when you will share personal spaces for extending periods. It is important to be compassionate, patient and empathetic to the needs of the other person as much you want the same kindness extended to you.

Remember we are all in this together and it costs nothing to be kind.

You are as old as you feel! Age is just a number! There are many sayings that express a similar sentiment! Age is a number that you choose to assign meaning to.  This world uses age to advertise to you, to convince you to buy things you don't need. Your age shouldn't define you.

So when you feel anything but grateful because of you age; ask yourself does my age matter? Your desire to do or not to do something is what matters. Life is about choices and yes you can choose how you feel about your age and how you feel because of it.  You can also choose to live an amazing life because of your age or in spite of it.

A long happy, healthy and abundant life is just a thought away! You can possess abundance in relationships, in wealth, in health, in joy, in peace, in prosperity, in love, in gratitude. Each day you are alive on this earth is a second chance! So how are you going to use your second chance.

I urge you to use it wisely! Be mindful of your thoughts because they directly impact your actions and your actions form habits and your habits become you! So don't fixate on a number that happens to be your age. Fixate on the quality of life you live and the impact you have on those around you! Leave your mark on this world not a scar!

Be mindful of what gets your attention. Be selective with who gets your energy and whose energy you absorb! Do things that feed your soul! Commune with God and ask for direction. The Jamaica national anthem isn't a declaration of military might. It is not a glory song of our conquest of other nations and a proclamation of our eternal rule. The anthem is a prayer to God asking for protection and guidance for its leaders and people. I am filled with pride every time I hear the national anthem especially when it is played on the world stage! The whole world gets to hear us declare that we are a proud nation! We want to prosper as a people and we need God to prosper. Our anthem serves as reminder that we are fearless in our pursuit of our dreams. We are a strong willed, determined nation. Your perception doesn't define us! Borders don't confine us! It is to your own disadvantage if you underestimate us! Jamaica, Jamaica land I love!
