One of the great and important things we can realize for ourselves — and help our kids to realize — is the impact we each have on others. Depression and anxiety is at an all-time high … people feel isolated and alone … and we KNOW that a kind word or action from someone can literally change someone else’s life for the better. We each have the responsibility to treat everyone in our sphere of influence with kindness and respect — and teaching that responsibility to our children not only empowers them to positively impact the lives of those around them, but also increases their own capacity for love.

Summer is here! And with this glorious time of year can also come the pressure to plan the most perfect summer ever. We are here to tell you that perfect is not the goal. Being intentional about the type of summer that is right for your individual family is so much more important than trying to make what you perceive “everyone else is doing” fit into your life. In this episode Becky P. walks us through some very specific questions to answer as you decide what you want this summer to look like. Whether you decide on a lot of structure, being easy and carefree, or something in between, you will be able to make the decision with the confidence that you are choosing the vibe you and your family need this summer.
SPONSOR: Visit classroom.beckyhiggins.com to learn more about our available online courses.

JOURNALING EXERCISE // 5 questions to ask:
1 - What has changed in your family and in your life since last summer?
2 - What is your most scarce resource?
3 - What do you think your family needs right now?
4 - How do I want the summer to feel in my home?
5 - What are our biggest rocks? What are our highest priorities?
Using your answers to the questions above as your guide, think through the following categories as you cultivate the mindset you want for this summer:
STRUCTURE // Screen Time: How much time do I want my kids on screens? What are the parameters for when that is okay? What does screen time include (phones, tablets, TV, video games, etc.) // Summer Jobs // Chores // Standing Activities – pool, movies, park, etc.
VACATIONS // Do you want to take a vacation? Do you want to include your kids in that conversation or have the parents decide?
ACTIVITIES // Not everything has to be meaningful. Let them be bored

For many of us, social media is a very prevalent part of our day-to-day life and it can easily become something that causes more stress than positivity if we are not vigilant about the content we are both consuming and sharing. This episode is a deeply vulnerable and open conversation about how we can bring light to our social media experience and how we can be centered in Christ through our consumption, sharing, commenting, and double-tapping. You will feel inspired about how you can use social media as a tool of discipleship, goodness, and love in a way that is uniquely YOU.

Fashion might not seem of utmost importance right now, but it really is a piece of who you are. Wearing the right clothes can bring more of you to the surface and help you be more YOU! Having been in fashion for over 10 years, our guest Reachel Bagley knows a thing or two (or a hundred) about fashion. Currently, she helps people discover their fashion profile and how to match their inside self to their outside self. Reachel helps people know their body type so they can hone in on the clothes that will work best on their body. In this episode, she teaches how to show respect for ourselves though the clothes we wear. She shares how to go through your closet and pare down your wardrobe to decide what fits and what you love. Bottom line: she emphasizes that clothes aren’t a diary and we don’t need to keep everything from the past. Instead, we should honor where we are in our journey, thus being more intentional about what is in our closet.

Everyone has a story. Sometimes we agree with them and sometimes we don’t. But surprise! We don’t have to take sides! Isn’t that a relief!? We can just listen for the sake of understanding, and sit with our feelings for a while. In this episode, we chat with Brooke Romney and learn how to be a better listener and how to connect with others whether we agree with their viewpoints or not. This is a message that needs to be heard. We’ve been trained by society that how we look is super important. But it’s not. In fact, our guest in this episode says the way we look is the least interesting thing about us. How do we change that narrative? It starts with us making a change in our circles and not spending time talking about our bodies. Lauren Busby is a mom of 4 who used to be obsessed with the gym. She stepped on the scale twice a day. She counted everything she put in her mouth. One day she realized she had a problem! So she made a change. She stopped obsessing about her body so she could do things of utmost importance and help those who truly need her. She felt a call in her heart to help women feel good about themselves by sharing herself in a raw and unfiltered way. She works to be a safe place for women to feel good about themselves by proclaiming body neutrality. After listening to this episode, you will be inspired to make a change in how you view your body and you’ll strive to be satisfied with your body without becoming obsessed.

What does success mean to you in regards to your parenting? BP leads this thought-provoking discussion and addresses these questions and many more. Grab your makeup bag and take a look inside. What are the names of some of the products? Are they degrading or crude? Are they something you wouldn’t feel comfortable saying around your kids? Our guests have built a makeup company around making sure that doesn’t happen. They help women truly feel beautiful and empowered simply by the makeup they put on their face. In this episode, we’re talking to two beautiful faces behind Shine Cosmetics — Darcey Wilde and Chandler Taylor. It can be so hard to know what to say and how to offer support to someone who has lost a child or who has experienced trauma of any kind. Tasha Clifford is a mom to four sons. Her oldest, Morgan, died last year from brain cancer. In this episode, we have a very intimate and raw conversation with her about grief, pain, loss, and trauma. Tasha shares why we need to get past saying, “Let me know if you need anything,” and just act. This eye-opening conversation will help you be more conscious of the things you say and do around those who are suffering.

Hearing too much news about this? Seeing too much advice about how you should be managing your emotions or homeschooling your kids? In this episode, we skip the advice and counsel and instead, we lovingly share our personal experiences and observations from the first few weeks of so much in the U.S. being shut down. The global pandemic, as a result from COVID-19, seems to be turning the whole world upside down. For some, there are actual benefits and blessings that come from the pause. For most, there is a great deal of confusion, stress, anxiety, and even heartache. This season we are in is unparalleled … and chances are, this feels like a unique chapter in your own PERSONAL story as well. As always, we hope the insights shared on our podcast are, in some small way, helpful to you … particularly as you continue to navigate your way through this experience that we are sharing as humankind.

With a super-impressive bio (think: attorney, renowned public speaker, author of 13 books, family advocate, not to mention mother, wife, and grandma) Merrilee Boyak is full of wisdom, especially when it comes to raising independent and capable kids. In this episode, we glean from her years of experience as she shares why it's so important to train your kids to be independent, why you should let your kids fail, and why we shouldn't bail our kids out when they get into a bind.
