Welcome back to another exciting episode of the Hitting the Streets Podcast! Today, I'm thrilled to feature Stephen Clayton, a candidate running for SISD School Board Place 2. I had a fantastic time interviewing him and gained valuable insights into Stephen's background and his vision for the school board.Stephen ClaytonI am a father of three amazing Sherman ISD students from eighth grade down to kindergarten. I am here for the long-haul. I am an active participant in the PTAs of the two schools my kids attend, a band dad, an athletics dad and have been known to cook a hot dog or two at Neblett.

I am a committed community member. I have served on the board of the Sherman Community Players, led the administrative council at my church, and volunteered, all in the name of making Sherman a great place to live. I am a graduate of Austin College, and moved back to Sherman to raise my family, be near friends, and support aging family members.

I believe that great education, starting with strong public schools are the cornerstone of the community. My grandparents were both teachers in Sherman schools. My sister and father both have master’s degrees in education from Austin College and I have taught economics for the College off and on for nearly 10 years.

And now I am ready to take on the challenge of representing our entire community by running for School Board.

It's Podcast Sunday! Today on the show I have Russell Beck who works in sales and promotions at Hidden Hanger Vineyard and Winery.  Make sure you subscribe to my podcast so you can catch more episodes!

Hidden Hangar Vineyard was once the home of Barnstorming planes that used the grassy knoll as their runway to the sky. From 1928 until the 1950's the municipal airport, located two miles east of Denison, was known as Gray Field. It served as a training airport for "wanna-be" pilots and a fuel stop for those traveling between Oklahoma City and Dallas.

Originally, the airport consisted of one large hangar and several small "T hangars". Unfortunately, the hangar was destroyed in a late night fire in the 1960's. The concrete slab of the hangar still partially exists today. The vineyard was a family dream that was established in the 1990's. The second and third generations are now continuing that dream.

Hidden Hangar is part of the Texoma American Viticultural Area (AVA), one of eight AVA's that exist in Texas.

George Hughes was accused of raping a white woman at his employer's farm near Sherman. Hughes was later brought to the Sherman courthouse for trial when a mob gathered.

May 9, 1930, George Hughes was lynched, the Grayson County Courthouse was burned to the ground, and the black business district on Mulberry Street was destroyed.

It's your crazy ray of sunshine, Rollin' with Ms. Community.  Today I had the opportunity to sit with Sheila Kluss, owner of Bean Me Up Coffeehouse & Bistro and chat about coffee, how she got started, Quiche Queen and much more.  If you're ever in the 903 area please stop by this local coffee shop and enjoy a cup of coffee with a slice of Quiche.  (My favorite by the way.)

Thanks everyone for listening to my first podcast.  Your feedback was truly appreciated.  This episode is Introduction Part Two.  After being approved to be on a few channels, I think I need to tell you guys a little bit about myself.  Once again please bear with me as I work out the kinks and get more comfortable with being on the air.  Thank you so much for listening! And so it begins!  First of all, thank you guys for joining me on my podcast.  This is my first episode so please bear with me as I work out the kinks.  I decided to create a podcast for various reasons, but the main one is my passion to help build connections within the community to bring people together for a common goal or cause that promotes growth and enhance the quality of life.  I will warn you though, I have an obsession and love for one particular holiday, TV shows, movies and music.  I also drink way too much coffee and enjoy eating delicious food at my favorite grub hubs.  So be on the lookout for those podcasts to come.  I want this podcast to get you fired up to meet some of the people who make up our community and learn more about what makes it so special.  Please send me an email anytime at chelewells42@gmail.com if you would like to be a guest on Hitting the Streets.  RMC
