Legendary music producer Michael “DJ Shok” Gomez and Anti-Work songwriter Kal Teaux discuss the growing need for a spiritual component to life in an increasingly materialistic and hedonistic modern world. Modern America has largely gotten rid of religion, with good reason, in many cases. But, isn’t there something more to life than just buying stuff? Is there anything in those ancient religions worth keeping?
After a brief sojourn-- the boys are back! And discussing how frustrating it can be to read and understand something so profound- only to have it fade from your mind a few weeks later..
Life is: 50% genetic, 10% circumstance, 40% personal control-- true? false? how? why? what to do about it??
The metaverse is live, folks-- but Alan Watts told us the the game of life is not Man vs. Nature, but Man harmonizing with Nature. So, if we create an entire new realm where we ARE God-- by the universal principles that govern the world, isn't that bound to be a disaster?
As COVID may finally be lifting its grip, we'll feel the push to just have everything go back to the way it was: fast, stressful and burdening. We must not let the lessons of COVID isolation go by the wayside now..
It can be difficult, awkward or painful to be in the presence of someone (namely yourself) lacking self awareness. But, in those moments those folks merely have their blinders on- we must attempt to see where they're coming from!
Can the Metaverse be stopped? Probably not, hate to say it. But, why would people think to do a Metaverse in the first place?
A Super Bowl Sunday and then a Valentine's Day Monday? The boys are talking football, lil baby cupid and the ancient scientific field of: vibes.
How many studies do you need to see that show that a 35- or 30-hour work week is better for both employee and employer? Why not bump it down to 9! How much does the Mammon system need??
Inside all of us is a spring coil. When we're children, we might bump our head on the corner of a glass table- but we bounce back fast. Over time, our coil doesn't spring back as quickly, it loosens, weakens- gets bogged down. We must nuture our coils, friends!
Religions have overused guilt and made parishoners feel alienated and hopeless. But, what is the role of guilt in a healthy relationship? Is there one?
The first episode of a brand new year-- Mike returns from the Florida Themeparks: the homestead of the Mammon system! Did he survive??
Another COVID year in the books! :( We review our most and LEAST salient points that we made in our god-forsaken year: 2021.
Technology professes to provide us with guaranteed experiences- removing all variables and/or things that could go array. They acutally provide this, but they promise to. But, isn't it the case that life's best moments are often organic, unforeseen and unpredictable? Are we going to lose that in the Meta world?
What do you do when you know you should be mindful, peaceful and meditative-- but you simply just can't?
A discussion of "The Spark and the Grind" by Eric Wahl- who posits there are two types of folks: the igniter and the grinder
A discussion of "guardian angels"-- are they real? do they have a name? can you name god? Does a name help create a more personal relationship? Is your guardian angel.. standing RIGHT BEHIND YOU LOOK!
A discussion of the obession with Time. The clock is made up, aribitrary- dare I say unscientific? Yet, it rules ALL. Don't let it be, my friends-
The boys chat about how the lingering COVID pandemic has deeply impacted our collective mental and spiritual space!
September is fading fast and the boys are back to talk about the Earth, the Wind & the Fire!
What's the difference between sacrifice and torture? Sacrifice, which we are all called to do in life, is a step along a path toward Joy. Mike discuses Covey's "Bigger Yes", a bigger goal that can help one position sacrifice correctly in the mind.
Mike brings in a discussion about the spirit of renewal- September is a time of decay, and yet the new school year makes it a time of renewal, as well. In times of a "new start", how does one know what to keep and what to let go of?
OVERWHELMED!? It's the dog days of summer, folks-- a bittersweet time of lovely weather and the looming of the autumnal winds. We talk a lot about the duality of Earthly existence: pleasure and pain, happiness and sorrow-- we cannot have one without the other. But, what happens when you just want a little more of the Good and a little Less of the Bad every now and again?
We discuss one of the toughest things in the world to do: simplify, simplify, simplify. In a chaotic, ever-changing world everything seems so dang complicated. Yet, the golden rule still applies. The deepest bits of wisdom remain simple and true. How can we focus on these simple adages when we get caught up in the hectic, day-to-day?

The boys are back and things have taken a turn for the worse! Variants aplenty and the foreboding of a possible lockdown? How can we psychically handle this? Mike looks to a favorite of his, "Man's Search for Meaning", for some answers..

A Content Content episode with two musical legends?? It could happen, it can happen- we bring on Chinafrica's Wayne Chin to discuss the Jamaican Emancipendene day celebration- and transition into a discussion on the hierarchical god vs. the universal god!
Our final run through of our three-part series of excerpts from Marcus Aurelius' Stoic writings, "Meditations". This week we look at the pleasure/pain, yin/yang aspect of existence-- Aurelius says to yearn for pleasure and repel from pain is to go against nature: it is to blaspheme!
Have you ever been driving along the highway, out in the middle of nowhere and then- way back, off in the distance is that one, random house? Who lives there? Could you live there? Mike joins the show from the great outdoor and we discuss how living in the dense city or the wilderness doesn't make nearly as much as difference in life as does the weather in your own head-- which can be maddening, but also the weather in your own head is the only thing we might actually be able to control.

Mike and Derek are back after their Father's Day sojourn to get back into balance. Life is 10,000 joys and 10,000 sorrows-- we inherently prefer the joys, but living in the balance of both the light and the dark is the only method toward true contentedness.
Derek is back home and Mike is in his new palace (until the green screen falls over!). The world is picking back up- and it's important to integrate the better habits we picked up during lockdown into the hustle and bustle of everyday life.. but how!?

Author and spiritualist, Jeff Brown, "As friendships grow closer, conflict becomes more difficult to avoid. And this is often a good thing. Because the closer we get to each other's hearts, the more triggers rise into view. Because you can't fully ignite each other's fire. Because you won't know if a connection has legs, until it has been tested by conflict. And when it is, there is a choice to be made. Walk away in disgust, or walk toward it in an effort to deepen the connection. Conflict isn't the adversary of connection. Fear of confrontation is."

Technical issues abound on a rainy Memorial Day weekend-- but the boys get the show going once they start cooking-- Mike and Derek discuss the importance of communicating how one feels, as opposed to "what happened".
As things open back up, the boys have gotten busy and needed to do an old fashioned catch up! Mike discusses the intuitive yearning for peace and stillness, as Derek brings in a quote from Bruce Lee, "Calm is a Superpower."
Derek brings in a list from r/SoulNexus that is 10 "Rules for Being Human"-- they focus on life being a curriculum, full of lessons that will reveal themselves over and over to you, until you learn them. Once you learn one- look out! Here comes the next..
Shoutout to the Moms on Mothers' Day-- as we say, Mommin' ain't easy. Family connections are some of the most interesting given our deep, cellular connection and yet and different (sometimes wildly different) personalities- if you had all the same experiences as your parent, would you be the exact same? Or is there part of you that's completely unique to you?

Mike sparks a conversation about the things we want, the things we need and the wisdom to know the difference-- isn't it the case that, what we truly need to grow, mature and live lighter is difficult to discern? Mike starts by addressing the somewhat natural process of those leaving their religious devotion behind-- the tendency to mock and ridicule the religion and those still involved, as a means of coping and/or healing. Quite alright to poke fun, but allowing yourself to then define your journey only against that which you used to believe is to continue to be trapped by the religion itself! There are infinite ways to reach a mountain top- we needn't proselytize that our way is the best and most efficient, rather we should appreciate everyone's unique path on the way up! for all things CC: www.linktr.ee/contentcontent
Off of Kyle Butler and Barrett Smith's suggestions, we try and explore what Church should be like nowadays? It should be part-party, part-concert, part-therapy, part-performance, part-karaoke- something like that? It certainly should be something you look forward to and it probably should only be once a month, tough to say—

Derek is joined by law student and Arkansas-native Barrett Smith to discuss his journey from being raised in the Church of Christ to now having a very well-rounded, deep understanding of Religion today. Barrett brings a number of different sources to the discussion, and talks about how churches don't own religions, religions don't guarantee community and how, though we can help others, the spiritual path is ultimately an individual pursuit!

Mike and Derek are joined by ex-pastor Kyle Butler as he talks about how Grace (self-love) led him out of his Pentecostal past and unconditional love led him toward an innate feeling of Oneness. Another discussion on the depths of fear! Trungpa Rinpoche, "Fear contains insight as well as the panicky blind quality we often associate with it. The element of panic has a deaf and dumb quality—you know: doing the best you can, in spite of your fear, hoping everything will be okay. But fear without hope seems to be something very insightful. If you give up your hope of attaining something, then tuning into fear is tuning into its insightful quality. Then, skillful means or action arises spontaneously out of the fear itself. Fear can be extremely resourceful rather than representing hopelessness. It is the opposite of hopelessness, in fact."

Much can be learned from reading but, without the living quality, the experiential, one cannot integrate the knowledge into one's being. We continue discussing the Algonquin way of life, as well- viewing life as harmonizing with the totality of experience, as opposed to separate entities clanging around, battling for supremacy.

Mike pushes back on the dogmatic-side of the "God is Love"-type preaching, which leads us to a discussion of the limits of language. The Algonquin saw a person as a verb, not a noun. Mike and Derek discuss how a strictly scientific approach to life can remove the magic of the world-- are coincidences just coincidences? Maybe so, but if they are meaningful to you, what does that mean? And then, what's the difference between coincidence and miracle?
Last week, we tackled the ins-and-outs of Faith-- which naturally lead us to the big guy upstairs. Turns out, he's not a guy at all! At least not all the time.. or something. This week we discuss a question without an answer: What is God?
Mike is joined by legendary music producer, Buckwild, for a discussion of his album "Hip Hop is My Religion". Most every religious tradition has a musical component- why is that? What is the purpose of music and art in a spiritual life?
Marianne Williamson says Faith is, "trust in the force that moves the universe. Faith isn't blind, it's visionary. Faith is believing that the universe is on our side, and it knows what it's doing. Faith is a psychological awareness of an unfolding force for good, constantly at work in all dimensions. Our attempts to direct this force only interferes with it."
In our inaugural Late Nite episode, we're joined by travel photographer, mountain climber and world traveler Townsend James! We discuss what we can learn from nature to gain more perspective in life, how different cultures and different environments can help reset your mind!
We kick off the New Year with a discussion on the importance of "Knowing Thyself" and the Buddhist principle of "Discerning Wisdom". Often, fear and emotion are trying to show us where we need to do spiritual work. But, sometimes it's just a rainy day inside your head. It'll pass without concern, or need of it. How do we know which is which? You must Know Thyself..
We discuss the major concepts we've gone over through the year: Selfish Selflessness, 2nd Mountain, One Win, Needing the Devil, 2 Wolves and Painting! Happy New Year to all!
Fresh off our first FB live group chat, we discuss the nature of Original Sin (how its traditionally been used religiously, and how that sentiment is still prevalent in Modern American culture, even outside of a religious context) and how dangerous it can be to operate constantly from a negative self-conception.
"We hold onto hope and it robs us of the present moment. If hope and fear are two different sides of the same coin, so are hopelessness and confidence. If we’re willing to give up hope that insecurity and pain can be exterminated, then we can have the courage to relax with the groundlessness of our situation." -Pema Chodron (NOTE: Audio improves after 7 minutes, our apologies)
Mike circles back to the Ego, the web of mind, to address its dual nature: A) Selfish, fearful, petulant, anxiety-ridden, and B) Whole, connected, compassionate and love-filled. We must honor both sides, but know the universal connection makes it such that no action can ever truly be in a vacuum.
Our discussion around ego led us to an interesting wormhole regarding human language: we can express the inexpressible in song, painting, etc., but does the inefficiency of language hinder us? Too many words causes confusion..
Rinpoche guides us on our continuing discussion of the Ego-- How can you tame the Ego without more Ego? Let it dissolve. No need to overcomplicate, things are already too complicated everywhere anyhow. Cut away, simplify and let the Ego dissolve itself.
We continue our discussion of the Ego-- what is it? Scientifically, but also common sense, conceptually? Is your Ego you? Is the Ego all bad? How do you get rid of your Ego when you need it to get rid of it? Who knows!
Anything going on recently? Mike & Derek discuss how to synchronize the mind and the heart (unplug it and plug it back in, for the record)-- and this expectedly leads into the election results and how America could have an honest conversation toward unity.
What's the point of spiritual practice? Why do we think it’s necessary? Why do we think it’s even helpful? What's the point of this show anyhow? We address all the big ones this week--
Picking up where we left off last week: can a compassion-based organization emerge that will lead us to utopia? No. To believe so is to deny the fundamental nature of earthly existence and to be ultimately discouraged-- reckon with the suffering, play your part, get one win: that’ll make a tangible difference you can hang your hat on.
Mike & Derek discuss Alan Watts' "Fully Automatic Model" of the Universe, where life is perceived as random, individual objects bouncing off of and trying to conquer one another. This leads to separateness and a constant battle through life-- no bueno.
Ever come across a quote, or a passage that just makes so much sense it makes you mad; so much simple, intuitive sense, but it’s a pain in the butt to actually start doing? Yea, us, too. This week, we're talking about them things. We call them: stingers.
Mike & Derek discuss why we need the devil, the demons, the demiurges and the diabolicals. Would food taste so good without the feeling of hunger? Can suffering be the very thing that gives way to grace? Can we control that? IDK!
Both the boys are back at work and man, oh, man-- it sucks. Mike & Derek discuss the alchemical transmutation of anger and frustration into calmness. Anger can be such a hungry emotion; looking to grow, looking to swell. How can we take a stand and drop our golden chain of righteousness?
Dr. Ivan returns to discuss his experience with the modern American, capitalist, materially-obsessed value system- and his experience with it in the medical field. Do we create hierarchies inherently or is an outside, oppressive system forcing them into our minds and into our hearts?
Derek is live from underneath the Bodhi tree! Well, technically it's an old Oak in Prospect Park- but enlightenment can happen anywhere! Mike & Derek discuss transcendental moments and their inevitable fleeting nature- how to balance them and not let them bring you down even further,
Mike & Derek are joined by the first three-peat guest on Content Content, Dr. Ivan Hernandez, for a discussion of Religion vs. Science
It may strike us as odd that the idea of gain is a relatively modern one; we are schooled to believe that man is essentially an acquisitive creature and that left to himself he will behave as any self-respecting businessman would. The profit motive, we are constantly being told, is as old as man himself.. Not only is the idea of gain by no means as universal as we sometimes suppose, but the social sanction of gain is an even more modern and restricted development.”
In order to overcome selfishness, it is necessary to be daring. It is as though you were dressed in your swimsuit, standing on the diving board with a pool in front of you, and you ask yourself: “Now what?” The obvious answer is: “Jump.”
That is daring. You might wonder if you will sink or hurt yourself if you jump. You might. There is no insurance, but it is worthwhile jumping to find out what will happen. The student warrior has to jump. We are so accustomed to accepting what is bad for us and rejecting what is good for us. We are attracted to our cocoons, and our selfishness, and we are afraid of selflessness, stepping beyond ourselves. So in order to overcome our hesitation about giving up our privacy, and in order to commit ourselves to others’ welfare, some kind of leap in necessary.
Matthew 21:18-19, "Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry. Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.
Chogyam Trungpa, “Ordinarily, trusting in your world means that you expect to be taken care of or to be saved. You think that the world will give you what you want- or at least what you expect. But as a warrior (spiritual seeker), you are willing to take a chance; you are willing to expose yourself to the phenomenal world, and you trust that it will give you a message, either of success or failure.
Those messages are regarded neither as punishment nor as congratulation. You trust, not in success, but in reality (god)... Whatever the result that comes from your action, that result is not an end in itself: it is a seed for a further journey.”
You ever have a conversation so real, so forthcoming, so out there that your FBI guy had to shut it down? Apparently, that's what we did this week. Our apologies.
We discuss whether the dang world is ever going to go back to anything that we used to know, how to stay use presence of mind and faith in the human spirit to move forward optimistically-- plus pema chodron, chogyam trungpa, lightning strikes and IHOP!
We discuss going into nature as a way to hack and quiet the mind; theology, God and/or Universe, meditation, cults, ICSA, Alan Watts Ram Dass, Trungpa and lots more
We dig into: Myths and if they are all connected to death, Derek asks why Mike is ok with calling himself a Christian?, Religion vs ethics, and how Mike created his own myth at a family get together!
Derek reports back from a zoom call with the Brooklyn Zen Center, and brings in a quote from "Being Upright" by Tenshin Reb Andersen, while Mike discusses his digging through old texts about ancient religions and how truly not-primitive they are.
A special Father's Day discussion of Stoicism, pushing through and reckoning with fear to find deeper truth, studying the coding of your mind and cultivating the witness consciousness to do so!
Talking about power structures, how they partition information and make education more about filling a bucket, not igniting a fire! And we discuss how working people have recently shown how much power we have, how we can educate ourselves and not repeat the sins of the past
Mike and Derek are joined by Dr. Ivan Hernandez, NYC DOE social worker Andrea Vasquez, community activist Freddy Vasquez and host of "JustTalks", Jamal Gaynor for a frank discussion on the protests after George Floyd's murder and how racism is so ingrained in society that it has manifested as a mental illness in those afflicted.

We speak about meditation, depression, mental health and of course, being content.
In this episode we talk about Jesus's non violent teachings, our Yes, fear, unconscious cycles, with quotes from:
Jesus: “To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic. Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back."
Dag Hammarskjold: “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: Let all that is in me serve Thus, and thus free me from fear You dare your yes— and experience a meaning. You repeat your yes— and all things acquire meaning. When everything had a meaning, how can you live anything but a Yes?”
Stephen Covey: “You have to decide what your highest priorities are and have the courage—pleasantly, smilingly, nonapologetically, to say “no” to other things. And the way you do that is by having a bigger “yes” burning inside. The enemy of the “best” is often the “good.”
Lisa Olivera - "we get to contain both grief and the joy, the ugly and the beautiful, the challenge and the ease, the fear and the groundedness, the unknown and the presence, the isolation and the connection, the despair and the hope. All of it is allowed"
