On March four, we shared with the Ukrainian Coworking Community a compilation of audio messages made by members of different Coworking spaces to the community of Coworking in Ukraine.
The project intended to share a sense of presence with anyone suffering from the war.We wanted to establish a human connection and a channel for support.
The Ukrainian Coworking Community, represented by Anastasiia Kachan, produced a videoresponse that touched our souls a few days later. Yet another message arrived through an event organized by the Coworking Idea Project, this time by Vika Zhurbas.

Here's what happened with the Coworking Community these past few months:
- We had Gareth Jones talking about the week prior about How Coworking is an essential piece of urban Infrastructure. The 15-minute city and how a coworking space may be obtained may be more than just a sit-down and desk site, but how it can be a significant part of your community's economic fabric and a meeting place for folks.
- Then there was last week's episode, which came from Irene Manzini Ceinar, who is a former London researcher now based in Italy as part of the collaborative spaces research group. She talked about places where in-based infrastructure is very, close related to the local area. A truly locally-driven community-based coworking place where people go to work and accomplish things.
- The Coworking IDEA Challenge that's being led by Johanna Voll and Christian Cordes from the German Coworking Federation. And it's all over the place. Make a difference by embodying our coworking ideals. The Coworking IDEA Project focuses on inclusion and diversity as well as equality and accessibility. We've been talking about it for five years, learning more about it and how to communicate it.These topics aren't just there to be racist; they're there for a purpose.

Hello gals and guys! We are here in another podcast, with our guest Ed Goodman. A man that is close to our hearts in every discipline. He is the founder of Freelance Heroes, a community for freelancers across the industries in the UK.
In this podcast we talk about what freelancing means and all the nuances that come with use of the word. Is it fully recognized by the government? How do you register? And Ed also talks about how the freelancing community is faring against the Covid19 crisis.
What is Ed’s prognosis on the current crisis for the Freelancers?So, for me, it's it kind of -- the analogy that I fit with this is like nuclear fallout, the speed of which the developments and changes of our lives, in all aspects, happens so quickly that we're all up in arms, about how we manage our family, how we manage our work, how we manage our finances, and slowly I think that's starting to settle down.
And for some people, it's settling quicker than others. And actually, there are many businesses who are being incredibly affected, unaffected, or at least they're transitioning to different aspects of their work.
For me as a trainer -- a lot of my training is now being delivered online as opposed to face to face. And I'm not seeing a dramatic, albeit slightly below dramatic downturn in training. Yet, although I suspect that may change, of course, as clients themselves battle with their own budgets. But the main challenge from that we're seeing is, on one hand, businesses are continuing to thrive and succeed. And that's fantastic. And long may that continue.
And there's a need there for actually, because of this work, some businesses are looking certainly for freelancers and looking for support from other freelancers to help them, which is great, because, on the other side, many freelancers are fine, they're losing work, the contracts being cancelled, that work has already been done, is not being paid for now, that in itself is a whole debate around people paying their suppliers quickly enough in the first place. But now, it's almost like I haven't got the money to pay, it's just not gonna happen.
So freelancers are not only, you know, kind of budgeting for work that they've done, but they're not resting. Even that income and also now not receiving any future income because contracts are being pulled, some freelancers are able to diversify and find ways of attracting new income, some freelancers are struggling to make that point as well.

What does Alex say about how any coworking community or business can figure out what works?
You may not know what your community would want to do online, it's not your job to do it for them. It's your job to figure out what they're already doing and say, Hey, would it be cool if we found a way to do that together, and then use the online tools to do this, now is an unprecedented time to experiment.
Not everything needs to be the most valuable or perfect because everybody is figuring everything out. I'm gonna talk more about some of the most experimental stuff that we've tried out. Just to give you an idea of how much range there really isn't these tools, and maybe inspire you to be able to say yes to a member.

And I think because we're surrounded by those scale-ups that are always iterating on their ideas and doing it every you know so often so quickly and we get inspired by that and use that same methodology.”

Before Apple, I've worked in marketing and media. So I reached out to media types, recruiters, marketeers people in tech companies and startups.
And I would find that many of them weren't happy with their job.
They were unhappy with their career progression.
They weren't satisfied with their boss with their life.
So they didn't have the right place to work.
They weren't part of a community.
They didn't feel fulfilment from what they did.
And that struck me because I've always had those things.
I've always had friends at work.
I've always had people around me that say, well, you should go into this or that, and if you ever did, we would support you.

Coworking Academy at Coworking Europe 2019 We are putting this finishing touches to our 2-day workshop series ahead of Coworking Europe in Warsaw in November 2019.

Why do I need a workshop when I am going to a conference? That is our main ‘why’ for doing these workshops before the conference.
We’ve been to nearly every Coworking Europe and every time we have the same questions on the first day, but running these sessions before we believe you’ll get even more out of the conference.

Workshop details
How can we create coworking spaces that are relevant to local economic development? What is needed for these spaces to effectively support community business and be part of a movement for social change instead of gentrification? With a majority of coworking spaces situated in urban box parks and financial districts, their communities are primarily white, middle-class and increasingly isolated from the socio-economic challenges faced by citizens in surrounding neighbourhoods.
Drawing from some of the most successful examples of community organising, this workshop equips you with a et of concrete steps to build bridges between entrepreneurship and development, and offers tools for the building of inclusive and meaningful communities.

Podcast one: COMMUNITY: Creative Hotspots and Rural Coworking + Coliving in Brandenburg
For our first community podcast, Johanna sat down with Philipp Hentschel who is involved in a few Coworking projects – both rural and the city. Other than two German people trying to talk in English to each other, you will find out more about the creative hotspots for Coworking and Coliving around Berlin in the federal state of Brandenburg. Philipp and his collaborators have discovered many unique spaces that he collects in a blog. We talk about his involvement in different communities, benefits for rural development, but also the biggest challenges for rural coworking and why you may not find many spaces named "coworking space". Together with a group of students Johanna will do some research within these communities and share the results in future Episodes of this podcast.
