Coming out of Galatians, I realize that there almost wasn’t a Christianity. Had the Judaizers prevailed, the purity of grace may have been lost on most of the church. But….have we lost the purity of grace in our modern church world? In Good Grace we will explore the concept of grace and its role in our lives and in our salvation. We will spread our wings outside Galatians and consider the broader concept of the Bible. The big question we will ask is: What does it mean to believe?Join the journey for a biblical answer to that question.

We will launch a summer journey in Paul's letter to the Galatians on Sunday. We will set the stage for this critical book in the New Testament. I would suggest in the next couple of weeks you set aside half an hour and read the entire letter of Galatians in one sitting. The more you can do that, the better you'll learn the ebb and flow of this important letter from Paul. Religious leaders in the early church were insisting that faith was not enough, that being right with God required something more. Is that true? Absolutely not. But ... how do we know? Galatians.

Near the beginning of the story of the Bible, a man named Cain becomes jealous of his brother, who is getting God’s favor. He is warned to keep his anger in check, but he caves and murders his brother. As a result, Cain is sent into the wilderness. And there, he builds the first city in the story of the Bible. What is the story of cities in the Bible? The Bible opens in a garden and ends with a garden in a city. What’s that all about? We will explore the stories of several great cities in the Bible and learn what they teach us about God and His plan for humanity.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ profoundly changed the lives of those who followed Him and it can transform our lives as well. The crucifixion of Jesus was very troubling to His followers, it blew them off course. Was their journey at its end? Some went back to their old lives, but the resurrection put them back on course. How can the resurrection be a reference point in our lives and not just one Sunday every year? We will explore the stories of some of the followers of Jesus whose stories were transformed on that Third Day, the day of resurrection.

Do you know Jesus? It’s one thing to know facts about him, but to experience his love, wisdom, and guidance in your life is what it means to follow him. On the night before he was crucified, Jesus invited his disciples into a deep relationship with the triune God—and His invitation stands for us too. We will dive into John 13–17, a passage rich in promises, commands, and eternal truths. He’ll remind us we aren’t called to a part-time faith—we were made to know, walk with, and commune with God.

As we prepare to remember the Passion of Jesus again this year, we will look back through an old photo album to discover hints of what was to come. In this series, Polaroids, we will explore three places in the Old Testament which add depth and significance to the suffering of Jesus on our behalf. Sometimes a close look at an old photo can deepen our understanding of what happened that last week of the life of Jesus on earth.
