Young Irelands and Kilkenny corner-forward Charlie Carter is our guest for this episode of The Clash Act, hosted by Eddie Scally.
From humble beginnings playing primary school hurling in Gowran to leaving St. Kieran's College early for the family farm, to his breakthrough into minor grade and his time in the senior camp with Kilkenny, there's so much to talk about.
Carter was part of that famed 1996 Young Irelands team who lifted the Kilkenny senior county title, a feat repeated in 2002 that would see him named captain of Kilkenny for a time in 2003.
In more recent years, he's been coaching with Myshall (2022) and has a keen eye on the breeding of horses that ultimately led to running a winner at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival in 2021.

Six years with his native Kildare left him empty-handed and heartbroken. He emigrated to New York to find a job and find a team he could lead to championship glory.In the United States, Tompkins’ belief in himself never dimmed. He led Donegal to four New York championships in the Big Apple. He also found a new home for himself in Ireland and led Castlehaven to two Cork and Munster titles. In between, he also became the most valuable and feared footballer in Ireland.
